getting i guess good decent reviews i like i like lilo and stitch that new one was fun i will say this these next three weeks like this week the next week after that the week after that are some of the most fun in the nba calendar i’m so excited we got a taste of it today with a sham’s tweet and i was just like we’re all we’re here we’re in this if we’re not in the finals like every other you know 28 teams this is exciting times and it should be fun trades and the draft and i’m just excited absolutely today’s episode we’ll talk about that big trade that happened during the nba finals by the way finals are still going on talk about how this trade affects the mavericks uh as far as orlando in a trade suitor what the grizzlies are going to do so let’s start here with this one the first thing when i thought about this trade is like all right um the memphis grizzlies if they just do this trade and maybe it was a deal that they just couldn’t turn down so it’s desmond bane going to the orlando magic and the memphis grizzlies get contavius cowwell pope they get cole anthony and they get four first round picks and a swap the picks are kind of all over the place we’ll talk about those a little bit later but the first thing i thought of was if this is just a deal they couldn’t turn down and they’re not trying to go for anything else or if even if they’re just like soft launching a rebuild because they look at this team and they go “all right we’ve got to make some kind of move.” everybody was talking about this team’s got to make some kind of move because they’re not going to take max contracts for john morant jiren jackson jr and desmond bane into next season or the season after that or the season after that go into the second apron that’s just not what a memphis team with that small of a market usually does and they haven’t been successful enough to do that and to to go into that second apron yet and so if it is some sort of like soft rebuild in a way what how can the mavericks take advantage of it first of all they can take advantage of it by being better than them next year because they’re going to be a worse team to me i think i think kcp and coanthony would be serviceable for them and hope maybe kcb take a little bit of a leap up maybe he fits better with memphis than he did with orlando but i think that they’ll be a worse team because i think desmond bane’s that good yeah they’re like “hey we can’t have three of these contracts.” and orlando’s like “hey we’ll do four of them.” all right hold hold my beer hold my apron hold my apron tie my apron for me for yeah for dallas i mean i think the immediate thing for me was like “thank god it takes it takes another team out of the top six um because it’s like you look at the the gauntlet of the west feels like every team is is going to be adding or going to be has already or something like durant could go to another west team uh san antonio can do who knows what it’s like feels like a bunch of these teams are going to be getting better and dallas getting cooper flag so yes we need more teams at the bottom of the west not saying that memphis is going straight to the bottom of the west but it’s like there’s not too many teams you’re looking at in the west and say “all right you’re for sure not going to be in the top six next year.” and if they don’t do anything else with the assets they got back i don’t think that they’re a top six team i think they’ll be fighting for a playin spot at the very least they’ll draft they got the 16th pick in this draft so they’ll they’ll pick somebody at the very least they’re good at drafting they have been very good at drafting and so but i think now you look at them it’s like all right well they could be they could also be loading up for a big trade we’ll talk about that here in a second but let’s focus on the rebuild part if they do soft launch a rebuild who would you go for would you go for john mar would you take the huge swing and say “all right the mavs need a guard let’s figure out a way to do this.” i think you can do like clay gaffford and and and naji marshall naji marshall would be an incredible grizzly by the way but he would like fill in that dylan brooks pole that they’ve had would you do would you do any kind of deal around john at all would you touch him with a 10-ft pole well it feels like on paper he is like a nico target uh but yeah i think it’s just like you’re committed to kyrie shoe company jaw jaw does have a signature shoe with nike so oh does he he’s one of the few signature nike athletes but no it it’s like you’ve already committed to kyrie and i think they’re ready to commit long-term to kyrie or at least you know a three-year deal or something like that so it’s like i don’t see a world of kyrie and jaw together so i i just don’t see any path for dallas to entertain it now if kyrie went elsewhere please don’t please don’t leave us kyrie but if and if they or if like they didn’t have kyrie or kyrie was a different position or something i would i would then be like “dude nico would be jumping all over it right?” for kind of the same reasons of like kyrie of like a guy who has a really high ceiling but kind of rocky the past few years you don’t really know what his trade value is like if they traded jaw and they got four or five first it wouldn’t shock me if they traded jaw and it was like one and a half first in a you know a handful of players like it that wouldn’t shock me either i don’t know what john morant’s trade value is around the league so i just don’t think it works in dallas no abs no this that’s a that’s a no that’s a no for me dog i don’t think i don’t think it works they’re looking for somebody that can play with kyrie and a jaw kyrie lineup like you can make it work at times but defensively i don’t know i don’t know how how you’re making that work even with cooper flag dererick lively and anthony davis behind them that that’s an interesting one and he’s making 39 million next year so it’s not it’s not a you’re not trading for a$50 million contract like we talked about with kevin durant or even a giannis but it’s a no for me the one that’s interesting and his health too like it’s not just like where he got in trouble at the league and stuff is is some of the health stuff too and how he plays as a guard i’m just a little worried about him and i was a huge fan of him coming in i was firmly on the take jaw over zion williamson which is very uh very unpopular at the time going into that draft but now it’s like who has the brighter future between the two in the league i i’m still believer in jaw i like jaw it’s just because zion went to duke yeah whatever big big duke hater i don’t care that much now are the duke the duke maps cole anthony is an interesting name for me i started looking through the rest of them like “all right if they’re if they’re trying to sell off pieces or if they’re you know not holding on to the guys they just got cole anony’s making $13 million next year.” to me he’s an interesting guard i don’t think he’s your full answer he’s 6’2 he’s not big you couldn’t play him with kyrie irving i don’t think unless you’re doing the rick carile multiple small guard lineups that he used to do um but it’s an that’s an interesting game i think you can get him for pretty cheap yeah he’s at that like 13 number he’s he’s not good enough for a gaffford trade to for me he’s definitely not good enough for a pj trade for me um i think you just start looking into that is it a jaden hardy well sorry unless you’re getting assets back that’s the one thing i thought about with a gaffford or a pj trade it’s like all right well i don’t think they would want gaffford because they have edy and they have jiren jackson but and they have brandon clark but if you do a a pj or something you maybe get one of those first they just got for desmond bane back like something to think about but i wouldn’t do it still no i i think if you try to go get like a cole anthony it’s like it’s something built around jaden hardy omax kayla martin jaden hardy for cole anthony works in in the yeah so i think it’s more something like that i cole anthony went to north carolina i think he’s a fun guy i i think there’s some scoring moments that is a lot of fun i think there’s just some other and this hurts to say there’s just some other guards i like more than him even some guys like a minimum deal if it’s like yeah but if they went out and got him like he he is kind of like a flamethrower type of guy that you could have come off the bench and he would be different enough from like a dante exom if they bring exom back yeah but honestly like him versus brandon williams and you already have brandon williams as such a cheap number but they’re around the same size i like i think i would just take brandon williams at his couple million a year compared to trading for a 13 mil cole anthony it is a buy low for cole anthony but his minutes the last four years have gone down it’s like 31 28 24 like 18 last year like it it just goes down every single year and everything that’s on his like like if you like like if you like turn over like his like a pokemon card of cole anthony and it’s like his strengths or whatever is that on a pokemon card the pokemon card stats are on the front of the card okay there you go um like it like his strengths would be everything that like orlando needs so yeah and he couldn’t play it’s like shooting scoring you know some playmaking and stuff and it’s like if they’re not playing him a ton so i don’t it feels bad talking bad about him just cuz you’re a north carolina opponent i liked him at carolina what do you think about drake pal in the draft oh sign me up he’s rising up draft wars i would be i would say i would be a little interested in brandon clark if they if they made a trade for like a well i know he’s had some like tough injuries and stuff but i’ve been a big fan of him sharks and i really like nerded out about brandon clark in that draft and we we sent random brandon clark’s stuff to each other all the time but i know he’s had some tough injuries but if they do like offload like gaffford for like a kobe white or something like that and you can get a brandon clark um at like that 12.5 for like a cheaper deal kind of like the cole anthony thing then i would be down for him as like a third big interesting yeah that’d be an interesting like ancillary move if he did do a gaffford for some for a cole anthony or cole or kobe white or something like that coming up what if memphis is loading up for something bigger right now what does that mean for the mavericks and what do we think about this trade we’ll talk about that and more memphis is loading up for a bigger trade a kevin durant like a you know bringing in a julius randall a god forbid a giannis or a carl anthony towns like a wild swing where they’re just like “all right we’ve got this short-term window let’s go for somebody right now.” are you buying that they’re doing that or did they just get an offer they couldn’t refuse i think i’d lean more towards option two i don’t see them loading up because i i think you just got to ask the question like who like any of those names how much better are they than desmond bane so are you like going to turn around and awful like if you’re loading up then that means you’re going to like do this like motherload of a deal it’s like yeah okay if you’re getting giannis sure you’re getting some of these other big names sure but it’s like even like kevin durant it’s like all right so now you move from a big three of jaw jiren jackson and desmond bane to now swapping up bane for durant so then how does your how does it look at the other spots in the team i that’s my only thing with some of this stuff and i just think it’s the other direction i think it’s more of could be wrong but like they are they do have a rookie head coach now they fired taylor jenkins they moved on to you know one of the assistants high praise for him especially on the offensive side of ball but he’s still a rookie head coach and this is you know you put in our subtext or yeah our subtext today about you know stein was talking about interest in jared dudley for their that new staff there in memphis to bring dudley over and it’s just i just think it’s more that second route and what i’ve always i’ve been in the camp that they’re going to shop jaw but i don’t i don’t know what happens to to those next two guys i i just don’t think i don’t i’m not buying right now that it’s a loadup i think it’s more of a the opposite direction of hey we’re looking at the west and it’s going to be tough to beat out some of these teams especially okc it felt like i could cash in maybe not a load up like all right let’s cash in on this guy that we that we drafted late in the first round that a bunch of other teams passed on and they i think they traded two seconds for that that trade i think i saw the the like the asset management trade that people do like all right they traded two seconds for the pick that became desmond bane and then they flipped it for four firsts like that’s pretty good asset management right there and so maybe it was just a cash in we don’t think we can pay these guys they do have a lot of you know young players that have have played really well for him like a jaylen clark or a um a uh scotty scotty pippen jr yeah guys well last year um i like vincent williams a lot like they have some young pieces they’re really good at drafting so if they look at it and like all right are we going to really commit to these like big extension of these two guys i don’t know like i just don’t know the full direction that they they could go with that what do you think about the the trade for the magic now the magic get the magic get desmond bane they’ve at least for a at least for a year or so we’ll see what they do because you and i are talking before they’re they’re they’re like $30 million into the second apron right now with this with with a bunch of deals kicking in jayen suggs deal kicking in and a bunch of stuff they’ve got you know fron vagner like 38 they have jaylen suggs at a 32 or something they have desmond bane now at 35 paulo vancero at like 15 they got a bunch of contracts and paulo’s deal will kick in next season but at least for next year with those four guys that’s a pretty good foresome to me it’s it’s it’s kind of celtics coded like you just you you can see the the comparison between okay you got palin carro france vagner you got jaylen suggs and you’ve got desmond bane it feels similar style-wise to a a jaylen brown jason tatum drew holiday derek white like that’s kind of how they built that team and it’s you know offensively it’s a little more challenged than the celtics won but defensively maybe better worse i don’t know yeah i think it’s a i think it’s a tough price to pay when you see on paper but i also don’t care like i think if i was orlando fan i wouldn’t care that much because you’re you’re kind of going for it like we don’t see teams kind of do this i kind of was thinking it’s more like a like indiana what they did with seakum it’s like they had this uh obviously hallebertton was a trade but nimhard and nesmith and you know some of these guys across the team miles turner’s been there for a long time it’s like they had all these pieces and obviously they’re starting they’re going to have to be getting paid and they got their own situation they got to figure out but then they looked at it and said “all right seakam isn’t an a+ guy he isn’t a batman guy he is he’s probably not going to come here on his own like as a free agent we’re not a free agent destination type of thing and if we can go get a guy like that that’s really dang good and put him with all of our other guys that could take us to that next level then let’s just go do it and i for me it feels like that’s an orlando thing they had all these guys they’re good but they want to take that next step and it’s like all right you you probably overpaid but you also went and got your your seakum like your other like really good guy and that’s not a batman but man i love the fit alongside like the other guys i think that’s going to be awesome um i will say this about the picks i think there’s been it’s been funny to see the discourse about the picks today because it went from at the very beginning holy crap they got five first it was basically you know four first and a pick swap but then it’s like people started coming back around of like well these picks actually suck and my whole thing with the the whole thing with the picks suck route is you just can’t predict what picks are going to be in three to four years so i think it’s naturally you can look at him like “oh dude all these like young guys look how much better they’re going to be in 3 to four years.” that’s an eternity when it comes to nba world you don’t know about season ending injuries you don’t know about trades that happen somebody’s going to could get unhappy in 6 months 6 to 12 months and they’re like “dude i don’t want to do this i want out of it.” their tm could have a coffee date at ascension and could really figure out what to you know how to shake things up it’s pete’s it’s pete’s coffee down there in orlando that’s the disney one i was trying to think of a disney thing and i was like i don’t know what i i just i’m more in the camp of like i think it was a lot to give and i i’m not trying to discredit those picks because you are getting a 16th pick i mean unless you are very very confident that over the next four years ok oklahoma orlando is going to be like top one or two seed in the east every single year then i kind of get the pick suck angle but i think they’re going to be locked in the top six i think they’re probably you know a top four team but i don’t know i just i i think and i think that second pick they got could be really good the pick swap that they got so they got a the the 16th pick in this draft so they’ll get they’ll get somebody so it’s a not lottery but close they got a 2028 first from orlando it’s top two protected or no they got a 2028 first from orlando that’s not protected 2031st from orlando those are the ones people are like well paulo’s going to be 28 or he’s going to be 25 and 27 so i don’t know they they could be i get it it should be in the 20s but we’ll see yeah then they got this 2026 first that is like a phoenix pick swap and bobby marks had to legitimately get out a whiteboard and write out like three different scenarios where the pick could be like seven it could be 14 it could be five like there’s just all these different scenarios where there’s different teams like the knicks showed up the washington has a a stake in it the charlotte has a stake in it it’s like this convoluted pick that’s gone all over the place it’s one of those you just like wait for the lottery and see what happen see what happens with it but that one could be good that one could be like a top 15 pick again but but yeah the pick but saying four picks is like you’re not getting four top five picks so they’re not like it’s not that but they’re also not nothing you you pay for what you get it’s my same take that i had with pj and gaffford like all right yeah it it took first and it took a lot of your assets to go get those guys but you pay for what you get you’re getting good players you’re getting a good getting good getting a good player desmond bane and they needed to to take another step and they felt like they needed to do it they needed to get another scoreer and they got one teams in the east keep taking steps up and take some take some players from the west that’s not from dallas like that’s my take more miami get kevin durant actually do we care about that one i mean i do i i do like if kd goes to houston or san antonio i think it definitely affects the maps because i think it definitely pushes those two teams up coming up one more thing that is better for the mavericks after dallas mavericks i think memphis’s side is one thing we talked about they could be worse next year they could be in a rebuild they could be loading up for a big trade or something here’s one for orlando on orlando’s side of it orlando was a team going into the offseason that you knew okay they needed to add a guard they needed to add somebody that elevated them that created shots that could you know take a bunch of threes a volume shooter somebody like that and they were a team on my list of teams that absolutely were targeting guards this summer and that takes one of those shooters off the board like there was somebody there was somebody in the mavs subreddit that posted they were they’re like “blazers fan coming in peace we really thought that anthony simons gonna get traded to the magic now what do we do are the mavs interested on an anthony simons it’s like like fans from other teams that were going to trade their guard are now looking for all right who’s the team now that’s going to trade for this guard i think the magic in our mock draft that is coming out this week even traded for an anthony simons and made that move in our mock draft and so i think it takes a it takes a guard suitor off the board for orlando and i think that that that’s a big thing for the mavs unless they swap simons for jaylen sucks and then they’re wild that would be the game um yeah no i’m with you yeah it does take them off the board when you look at some other guards out there trade options uh free agent options uh if you’re trying to get a a free agent guard that’s um going to take a discount or something and they they were looking at orlando saying “man this is like a a good spot for me to go to a playoff team win now team uh young squad i could go and get some buckets and up my value then um it takes them off because you know they they’re they’re trading cole anthony in that so you have anthony black still there they still have you know obviously with bane and suggs and stuff so um yeah it is interesting with the simons thing because it feels like they’ve been linked to simons forever or everyone’s tried to do that it’s been the fake trade that makes the most sense for a lot of people yeah it’s like cj mccollum with like all these other teams back in the day when people tried to put him in deals but yeah now where does simons go where do some of these other guards go does orlando try to do anything else with their roster now that i mean they’re like all in so uh they could be trying to save some money reshape some things is jonathan isaac on the move um the memphis thing i’m i’m also looking at too of if they do stay down this route of kind of retooling do they become do they look at the market and say “all right everyone is blowing up brooklyn because they’re like the the only dumping ground out there to dump contracts with like picks and stuff.” and do they look at it and say “hey let’s take advantage of it and go the other direction we’ll become a dumping ground too we have like a kcp expiring we have brandon clark and cole anthony like we have some you know double digit their salaries and just load up on even more picks than what they got before so i don’t know that’s just something i’m watching i think i have the list of teams that are competing teams that are going after guards this season okay tell me if i’m missing anybody or if you don’t think nuggets for sure they just you know mark stein reported that russell westbrook declined his player option he’s going to evaluate his options i think he’ll probably go back to the nuggets but we’ll we’ll see what happens with that he declined that option the bucks if they’re going to keep giannis and dame’s going to be out i mean they’re looking for a guard they’re looking for some kind of quarter baby some kind of guard anyway uh the cavs they may lose ty jerome and then they wouldn’t really have a backup point guard and so we’ll see what they end up doing there and then daryus gar’s missing the start of the season probably that’s a big one um the kings i don’t know if you consider them a competing team but all of a sudden the kings had the the image that looks photoshopped of de’aran fox and tyres hallebertton both in kings uniforms and now they’re looking for a point guard that’s their number one target this offseason which is kind of wild same as ms the rockets fred van vleet has a team option that one could be a wild card where all of a sudden they come out and they’re like “oh now we need a guard.” the timberwolves they got anthony edwards mike connley’s gonna be 38 and then they have like rob dillingham and terrence shannon as their only other guards like dante danchenzo kind of it’s like they could be going after a guard but like those are the teams i think the mavs are competing for for some of these minimums some of these these you know guard the lower level guard trades things like that none of them has a chance to start though the bucks you could well yeah that’s true yeah kings you could start uh i got a text from so my best friend’s from houston and he texted me and he’s like “hey look what my dad just got me.” and it’s this framed jabari smith jersey and it’s signed and everything from him he’s like “i’m going to cry if he gets traded in two days.” and now i just want to put it out there that if he does get traded this is what i’m going to think about and i’m gonna kind of laugh whenever he’s like going to phoenix in a kd deal or something so uh yeah a bunch of people listening to this are trying to figure out if i’m from houston or not it was not me isaac has other friends i guess so believe it or not there are some other friends out there in the world but nick is on my short list i told nick some personal news the other day that hardly anybody else knows ah he did he did so um he’s getting his he’s getting a honorary degree from duke you imagine flying uh cooper flag coming to dallas this week yes where would you take him to eat oh man so i mean so many places um are you taking him to bies no it’s like he lands and they’re like “hey we got to get you some beaver nuggets.” not take it okay the first the first thing is like we’re taking you to a gas station it’s like buckyy’s incredible but it’s a road trip destination if you’re going somewhere else it’s so okay so i would take him to uh he’s got to have really good barbecue right i mean let’s so i’m taking him to hutchkins in frisco taking him to to the main one i’m getting i’m getting a private room i’m doing whatever i can do uh i’m probably taking him to priv private room all right well you’re not gonna like i mean you’re not going to sit and wait in line is what i’m saying okay okay i was like kind of private rooms at hutchkins hutches doesn’t really have private rooms but they they would make they would make one if uh yeah there’s there’s a bunch of different places also only visit he’s taking only coming to dallas yeah i was wrong about that i thought that he would may take some more visits he’s only taking one of the mavericks and uh the mavs accidentally posted a photoshopped image of cooper flag wearing 32 on their website that’s great they were upset that that that got leaked because they announced their draft party their draft party seems seems really cool um paige beckers is going to be there let’s go i’m going to be in new york at the draft so i’m a little upset that i’m missing it flex on it missing missing paige beckers i figured if i’m going to go to the draft figure if i’m going
