i don’t think they’re going to get Giannis i think Giannis stays in Milwaukee mhm but Kevin Durant that’s an interesting piece if I’m the Knicks the the Knicks are too slow they’re not going to beat Indiana next year or these other teams they got to get a little faster right and to me Kevin Durant will allow them to get faster and be a guy that can help Brunson in the fourth quarter you’re relying on Brunson so much one guy can’t get you there you got to give him some help kevin Durant will be a guy who will give you some help on the offensive end plus he’s able to put the teams that they play against in foul trouble i like Kevin Durant playing with the Knicks i really do a champion he can teach the other guys how to win the championship say he can teach the other guys how to win the championship what bro what are you talking about man bro I’m out man that nigga’s tripping bro magic Johnson now wants the Knicks to trade for Kevin Durant are you kidding me talk about saying stuff for clicks this is Sports Guy talking that you guys are watching and listening to i am Dustin Tran your host as I am here today to talk about Magic Johnson urging the Knicks to trade for Kevin Durant with Tom Thibido getting fired from the Knicks organization the Knicks are looking to make a splash move sooner rather than later one of those splash moves could potentially include trading an entire boatload of assets in exchange for Kevin Durant before I say anything else though I want to present you guys with a topic question so here it is should the Knicks trade for Kevin Durant hell no that would be a massive mistake by the Knicks organization to acquire Kevin Durant i understand Kevin Durant fanboys are going to tell me “Oh he’s super talented oh he’s an excellent bucket getter oh he can score the basketball at a high level.” But it’s not about that it’s about team chemistry it’s about building locker room culture is about creating an environment where team basketball is being valued and Kevin Durant does not provide that at this point in stage of his NBA career is Kevin Durant a great individual scorer yeah of course kevin Durant is going to go down history as one of the greatest scorers in the game of basketball however have you guys seen what Kevin Durant has accomplished in recent seasons and don’t give me the excuse of Kevin Durant doesn’t have enough help kevin Durant has had more all-star help than anybody else in the history of the NBA with the exception of maybe LeBron James kevin Durant lost the stack to deck but Kevin Durant has not proven he can lead a team to a championship ever since he left the Golden State Warriors when you look at Kevin Durant’s NBA career you have to say to yourself where did it go all wrong for Kevin Durant this guy was a former MVP winner this guy was able to be a scoring champion but Kevin Durant ever since he left the Golden State Warriors has not proven he can lead a team to a championship kevin Durant on the New York Knicks would probably be forced as a number one option which we all know how that movie ends and even if Kevin Durant is a number two scoring option that’s not going to end well for the New York Knicks either when you look at Kevin Durant’s resume what has he accomplished ever since he left the Golden State Warriors in 2020 he missed the entire season because of a torn Achilles so okay I’ll give him a pass for that in 2021 he loses in seven games to the Bucks in the second round of the NBA playoffs his toe was on the line that’s why they didn’t count that three-point shot instead it’s two-point shot and the Nets they go on to lose in overtime and then in 2022 the Nets lose in the first round of the NBA playoffs matter of fact Kevin Durant got swept in that series and then in 2023 Kevin Durant demands a trade mid-season he forces his way out of Brooklyn he gets traded to Phoenix then they lose in six games against the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the NBA playoffs and then in 2024 the Phoenix Suns got swept in the first round of the NBA playoffs they fire Frank Vogle after 2024 only for what in 2025 the Suns couldn’t even make the playin tournament forget the playoffs we’re talking about playoffs in 2025 the Phoenix Suns failed to make the playin tournament and now Kevin Durant seems like he’s going to force his way out if the New York Knicks acquire Kevin Durant via trade he would be the modern-day version of Carmelo Anthony that’s not a recipe for sustained success i also want to show you guys this clip of Magic Johnson raving about the impact Kevin Durant could potentially have if he were trade to the New York Knicks i thought Magic Johnson sound ridiculous with a lot of those takes but hey he’s on first take so I guess he’s got to see hot takes for the sake of saying hot takes he’s around Stephen Ath so he probably felt compelled to say this rule the film i like him if he could come here to New York for the Knicks brunson needs help and he needs help in the fourth quarter not Not see he he going to get you there but then Indiana loaded up against him and everybody else couldn’t deliver so they need a guy like Kevin Durant who can say “Okay Brunson you get us there but I’m going to take us home.” It it it remind me of Shaq and Kobe hey Shaq you get me to the fourth kobe said I got it i’m going to take us home right and so you need a person like Kevin Durant who also can put a team into foul trouble see it’s not just his scoring ability but he also put you in foul trouble and so uh that was a wakeup call against the Pacers with the Knicks they’re not deep enough and they’re they’re too slow as a team playing the two bigs no the New York Knicks do not need to trade for Kevin Durant what the New York Knicks need to do is acquire a better bench they need to build more depth on the roster they need to find guys behind Jaylen Brunson they need to find guys behind OG Noi they need to find guys behind Carl Anthony Towns they need to find guys behind Josh Hart they need to find guys behind Muel Bridges they just need more depth on their roster mitchell Robinson cannot be your best bench player on a championship caliber team mitchell Robinson is a great backup center don’t get me wrong but he is entirely too much of a liability at the free throw line in order to truly be your team’s best bench player they don’t need to trade their entire future for Kevin Durant we’ve seen Kevin Durant not succeed on teams that trade their entire future for them look at the Phoenix Suns for an example they were a team that made the NBA Finals just a year and a half prior to trading for Kevin Durant they were also the number one seed in the Western Conference a half year before acquiring Kevin Durant via trade we all know Kevin Durant ruins team chemistry if the New York Knicks acquire Kevin Durant be prepared for the Knicks to play zero defense and play a bunch of ISO ball which is not a winning formula in today’s NBA kevin Durant can make an offense better on paper but let’s hypothetical speak we’ve already seen this experiment play out in real time we saw Kevin Durant underachieve on the Brooklyn Nets we saw Kevin Durant underachieve on the Phoenix Suns heck even before KD got to the Golden State Warriors he underachieved in OKC kevin Durant is a lifelong underachiever he’s a great individual player but ever since he left the Golden State Warriors he has not become a winning basketball player if you get Kevin Durant on the New York Knicks be prepared to regress even more on the defensive end of the floor and he’s going to make Jaylen Brunson worse as well because Jaylen Brunson needs the basketball in his hands in order to play excellent basketball kevin Durant is also going to want to play with the basketball in his hands as well we all know Kevin Durant is all about getting his numbers and being an absolute hooper which he can do for an individual level but as far as impacting a team’s wins and losses he’s not going to help out a team in that department i know I may sound like I’m being harsh but that’s the simple reality of his skill set at this point in stage of his NBA career magic Johnson is wrong to suggest the New York Knicks should acquire Kevin Durant via trade magic Johnson is all about wanting the New York Knicks to chase for stars but at the end of the day we all know that chasing for stars is not going to lead teams into becoming championship contenders in the modern NBA you become championship contenders by building a bench and being able to have good role players around said star player magic Johnson needs to accept that that’s for sure so that is why the Knicks should not trade for Kevin Durant as Kevin Durant has been known to ruin team
