the Houston Rockets can and should be viewed as the favorites to trade for Kevin Durant and this is why now earlier this afternoon we heard that KD’s three preferred destinations are two of the Texas teams in the Rockets and the Spurs as well as the Miami Heat but the Rockets whether it’s young players or draft capital and their ties to the Phoenix Suns just make all the sense in the world so first of all as far as some players that Phoenix can be interested in obviously they’d be interested in a Shangon but he would not be available in a trade for KD but they could have interest in a guy like Jaylen Green who just had a rough postseason that definitely the Rockets aren’t shopping but they also wouldn’t call him untouchable and reports tonight after KD said the Rockets are one of his preferred destinations are saying that Phoenix could have a lot of interest in Jabari Smith Jr and while the Rockets like Jabari Smith Jr if he could be a centerpiece at getting you Kevin Durant then I don’t think you hesitate in throwing him in additionally it’s not going to be all of the Phoenix picks back but even if it is one first round pick that is the Phoenix Suns future first round pick that the Rockets have possession of then the Suns could be heavily enticed to make that move as well because obviously the Suns want to be competitive but any team when they’re trading away a player like Kevin Durant if they’re going to be going into a rebuild at some point they at least want to be in control of that rebuild so the Phoenix Suns would want to recoup as many of their assets as they could possibly get and that’s why the Houston Rockets are interested because last off season the Rockets made a trade with the Brooklyn Nets so they could have control of the Phoenix Suns first round picks they were essentially making a bet that at the time that Devin Booker or Kevin Durant become available they could have leverage to make a move and when you’re talking about a fit Kevin Durant yes he’s 37 but he’s getting you 27 a night and the Rockets badly need a guy that they could just go to in crunch time that series against the Warriors is a lot different if they can just give the ball to Kevin Durant in crunch time and how much does it change you have a hard-nosed team with a great defense coached by Eay Adoka you can have an offensive trio of Fred Van Vleet Alprren Shenon and Kevin Durant as your go-to guy in the fourth quarter i think the Rockets can and should be viewed as the favorites for Kevin Durant he would be willing to commit long term right away and the Rockets need to make a move like this
