in right here guys so we did have this game last night with the Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves lakers an early exit in this year’s playoffs minnesota Timberwolves advanced advance to the semi-finals and we’ve got the Rockets and the Warriors going head-to-head here as well this will be settled out what tomorrow so we’ll know we’ll have another game here tomorrow between these two postseason but we are going to get more and more intense games and series as we go deeper and deeper into this postseason or at least you would hope for that you don’t ever want to see a a championship series just be a quick sweep I guess unless it’s your team that’s playing and then of course you always want the sweep anyways so that’s the bracket it’s updated this is accurate now everything is good everything’s where it’s supposed to be number one spot number two spot they’re not going to go headtohead we’ve got the number three spot number four number three spot number four spot they will be going headto-head blah blah blah it’s clean it’s set up um who would you take if it ends up being the Timberwolves and the Celtics i would take the Celtics personally nah says Warren i got OKC in Boston for the finals i could see that happening i don’t know man thunder Cavs it could be that too um the Nuggets are always a strong team and the Warriors are always a strong team too the Celtics should advance i think the Celtics are a better team than both the Pistons and the Knicks jason Tatum out there crushing it out in the East and the Pacers out here as well i would not be surprised to see this conference finals be Pacer Celtics and this is honestly a crapshoot at this point i think any one of these teams at this point can advance all the way to the championships but that’s just what I think what do I know though right i’ve only been doing this for every day for the past god knows how long okay let’s take a quick look at these two teams this is the postseason stats for these two squads i don’t mind any teams winning the title this year but Celtics says Roy interesting is there a reason for that my friend is there a reason you feel that way let’s take a quick look at these stats guys so this is all five games combined full postseason numbers right here guys full postseason number so let’s take a quick look points per game the Knicks are outscoring the Detroit Pistons and it’s not by much it’s a one-point difference all of these games have been settled by such by such few points and what blows my mind is that yeah of course everybody wanted to see the Milwaukee Bucks play everybody wanted to watch the Los Angeles Lakers play we know uh there there’s just much bigger market teams out there and these two teams of course New York is a huge market team detroit the Lions are good I guess look what I’m trying to say is that these teams don’t have huge fan bases these two teams don’t have huge fan bases so these don’t have the turnout that you would expect and people are sleeping on this series guys this series has probably been one of the best series this entire this entire playoffs let me show you something here really quick this is a quick recap of these games now they were close right this game was settled by 11 points okay that’s double digits but how about this one game two was settled by just six points y’all it was close in game two the Detroit Pistons got the steel on the road in Madison Square Garden in game two fast forward to game three we’ve got the Knicks going at it with the Pistons again this time in Detroit and the Detroit Pistons lose by just two and then in game four they lose by just three the final score by just one excuse me 9394 are we tracking here 11-point game a six-point game a two-point game a one-point game game five was also a three-point game so this entire series has been very very close this is game six and we could be facing a game seven so game six game six happening right now game seven if needed will be this Saturday May 3rd if and only if it is needed will the New York Knicks close this series out today looks like most of you guys who have voted so far are saying that the New York Knicks yeah most of you guys are going for the New York Knicks in this one you think they will close it out today i’m not so sure man this is a game in Detroit of course the Pistons did lose both of their games at home i think they want to protect home court right here i think going back to Detroit after getting a road win in Madison Square Garden a full head of confidence right now and I feel that the Detroit Pistons are going to get the win here today i could be wrong but hey Ronda Davis how you doing girl good to have you in here warriors have not been showing up since Warren Smith that’s a very different story um the Warriors have been showing up the problem is is that Steve Cerr even though that the Warriors got within 12 in that game the Warriors didn’t really show up in game five you’re right but the bench showed up for the Warriors in game five and they got them all the way back to within 12 with 9 minutes left to go in the fourth quarter and all the praise that I gave Kerr during that game all I wanted to see was him make the right call and put the starters back in to give them a real chance looks like they gave up already they had given up by halftime kerr had who don’t get a chance to go through these pregames with us let me give you guys a good pregame i got to get myself checked back in Oh today I’m a little scatterbrained um I don’t know if it’s because I’m I’m sleepd deprived i woke up in a flop sweat this morning don’t know how or why but little tired today we’re going to muddle through this we’re going to get through this tomorrow should be a really good day though i’m going to make sure I get some rest anyways point being let’s take a look over here so offense for the Detroit Pistons regular season numbers the Detroit Pistons are averaging 115 points per game during the regular season they have not been averaging that during the postseason i will show you the postseason numbers in just a moment but let’s look at the overall statistics for the regular season here for the Detroit Pistons when it comes to field goal percentage middle of the pack right here both at the regular shot and at the threepoint line both of these are middle of the pack same goes for the assists per game they are however a top 12 team at crashing the boards the offensive side of the glass defensive side of the glass and I don’t know what the heck those number three number six things are scrolling by at the bottom but whatever okay i will say defensively they do not protect against the three ball they do not defend against the three but in points per game allowed they give up 113 at field goal percentage allowed they give up a success rate at 46% and total rebounds and assists per game top 12 top six in assists allowed they are one of those teams that will force you to take shots that you do not want to take you’re not going to get an easy assist and find someone in the corner there against the Detroit Pistons pistons will close out and I see that happening time and time again so 115 remember that number they average 115 points during the regular season that’s the one number I want you to remember for that 115 for the Pistons regular season numbers okay let’s take a look at the New York Knicks here and then we’ll do that head-to-head comparison new York Knicks also 115 very very close decimal point of a difference guys literally one or two decimal points of a difference so both teams average about 115 points per game it was always supposed to be a close series and it has been a very close series now this team shoots lights out they’re a little bit better at shooting the basketball they don’t shoot as often they take their time on those possessions and um I actually busted out a little bit more data during this head-to-head comparison that we’ll look at in just a moment but top 12 team in points per game field goal percentage three-point percentage and assists per game they move the basketball well they do not rebound well and they lack some serious size they did pick up Carl Anthony Towns that does help at the center position but he’s no Rudy Gobear and we saw what Rudy Gobear did yesterday um defensively they struggle a little bit bottom of the barrel at defense here they give up few points but they give up wide open looks to opponents and uh they don’t crash the boards very well okay so remember that guys 115 is the average points per game for both for both sides here is the average postseason numbers we just looked at this postseason both teams are shooting less right here both teams are putting up less points more defensive side but that doesn’t mean that uh everyone is struggling right that doesn’t mean that every one of the teams are struggling some players are doing much better during the postseason than they did during the regular season and we can run through that here as well so really quick guys here are your starters for both of these squads of course we’re going to start with the away team here the New York Knicks are the away team today at center Carl Anthony Towns at power forward OG Anobi at small forward Josh Hart at shooting guard Michael Bridges and at point guard Jaylen Brunson this is going to be your starting lineup today for the New York Knicks on the other side down the court we’ve got these guys as your squad at center Jaylen Duran at power forward Tobias Harris at small forward Oscar Thompson at shooting guard Tim Hardaway and at point guard Cade Cunningham so he’s tall point guard by the way he’s like that Lucas-ized Luca build but he balls out a little differently he’s not a three-point shooter he’s definitely the guy in the paint i like watching Kade Cunningham play i like him i I like watching his style of basketball it’s honestly a little bit boring he’s faster than Tim Duncan but he plays more of that fundamental ball he will take those three-point shots from time to time so a little more dynamic I think I could say than Tim Duncan that doesn’t mean he’s the better player than Tim Duncan but I’m just saying that it I do see a lot of that even though he’s a point guard and Duncan was a power forward I just see a lot of like that backing down fundamental turnaround bank shot off the glass kind of style of play from Kate Cunningham anyways let’s move on so one by one let’s do it this way let’s do the head-to-head comparison one by one game recap guys let’s do we’ll go we’ll go into the game recap here in just a moment we’ve still got 10 minutes I guess before tip off so let’s do it cunningham is stealth says Leola that’s what I’m saying he’s out here he’s the silent assassin just crushing teams in a way that like Anyways let’s take a look at it guys these are postseason numbers so despite how good Kate Cunningham is averaging 25 points per game during this postseason Jaylen Brunson has the advantage when it comes to points per game during this postseason of course he does play a few more minutes here as well k carter saying he’s good he’s like Kawawaii all fundamental mr fundamentals that’s what I’m saying what’s up Linda good to have you in here thanks for checking in father Times in here as well taz still hanging out with us he says the score will be 107 110 with the Pistons winning a three-point game i would not be surprised if it was a three-point game all right guys brunson just four more points than Kade Cuttingham on average during this postseason but Cunningham makes up for that in the rebound category so this is basically a wash and if we look closely here you’ll notice that he has a big advantage in steals and blocks per game as well over Jaylen Brunson now Brunson has been shooting the basketball better but honestly dude 43.1% versus 43.0% that’s a wash and that’s really nitpicky for me to put this over here it is more of a wash than anything else brunson gets the advantage in the three-point category that’s probably why he’s got higher numbers there okay shooting guard position we’ll take a quick look here at the shooting guards so advantage Michael Bridges and the New York Knicks here a few more minutes but the Knicks as we said two days ago they do not have a very deep bench the bench advantage 100% goes to the Detroit Pistons which is why you’ll notice that in almost all of these situations the Pistons starters are playing less minutes than the the New York Knicks starters i still think that maybe they should get more time on the court but that’s just me okay all right you know what I mean like during the regular season that makes sense during the regular season sure go ahead and rest your guys but now we’re in playoffs and you’ve got your back against the wall it’s win or go home for the Detroit Pistons they need to keep their advantage in steals and can you believe that Tim Hardaway has yet to get a single block in this postseason not one block over five games against this team maybe just maybe if you played a little more defense they wouldn’t lose by one two or three points like they have been losing to the New York Knicks if you would just squeeze that last little bit out of that defense there any little bit helps one additional block shot could make a huge difference and I’ll talk about what the difference was in the last game here in just a moment after we get through this head-to-head comparison all right guys small forward situation here advantage Josh Hart now Oscar Thompson one of those players who doesn’t let it fly from beyond the ark he is a player who plays inside the paint that’s why he has a very high field goal percentage he is getting easy buckets under the rim and that’s okay if you want to score that way but you got to do more than just put up 10 points per game and we are seeing that out of Josh Hart josh Hart with more assists he’s also got more rebounds he’s got more steals he’s got just a big advantage here I think for Josh Hart also the fact that he can shoot the three-point shot and shoot it I guess kind of well you know what up Santino how you doing sir how you doing how you doing Tino all right guys let’s look at the power forward position here minutes per game power forward oi takes the cake there but this is also one that is very close so 16.4 and 16.0 tobias Harris is taking better looks better shots there now they are dead even in assists per game big advantage here in the rebounds and of course the Pistons have been rebounding better all series long anyways better shooter both behind the arc and just in general and then of course a quick comparison of the centers quick comparison for the centers here carl Anthony Towns has the advantage over Jaylen Duran but again only in the scoring points category and of course scoring points is the most important thing here but everything else allows your team to score more points and Jaylen Duran 11 rebounds versus the nine here doesn’t sound like a lot but that’s what 25% more rebounds or someone can help me out with the math right there um assists per game double the assists more than double the assists in this one so he’s a facilitator and 64% shooting now of course when you shoot three-point shots like Carl Anthony Towns does that does affect your overall total shooting percentage but it’s still pretty good for Cat all right all of that being said we just took a head-to-head glance at all of these players right now hold on let’s pull this up we just took a head-to-head comparison look at all of these players right now let’s look at the last game i added some additional stats here because I wanted to paint a clearer picture so two new additional lines that we didn’t have before it’s actually the free throws line right here and the points in the paint which I think make there are parts of the story that we miss when we don’t have all this information now the Detroit Pistons won game five in Madison Square Garden why did the new Why did the Detroit Pistons win this game in Madison Square Garden despite the fact that the Knicks were shooting the basketball better both from the regular floor and from beyond the ark it is because of line item four here free throws the New York Knicks shot 27 free throws and made 16 in that game the number of times 27 times or 27 shots at the free throw line versus 36 shots at the free throw line 26 of those shots were made so that means that out of this number 25% of the entire number of points scored by the Detroit Pistons came from the free throw line this is huge guys i did not I don’t know i guess it’s because I was just so new to basketball i wasn’t including it in here and every time I would try to break down these analytics there was it felt like there was a piece of the story that was missing that is one huge piece to the puzzle here 26 shots falling from the free throw line gives them a threepoint lead at the end of the game it’s that close that’s how close the margins are okay what’s up James Langford how you doing sir now we’ve talked about the shooting the Knicks actually won the battle of the boards in that game bench coming in strong we were dead even in turnovers so you can’t really talk too much right there this at the assists also very close and the points per game points in the paint also very very close the really big difference in this entire story is trips to the free throw line not just trips to the free throw line but actually sinking your shots so you know what James me too sir me too so final score of game five was 106 103 as we said earlier and here it is again guys it’s going to be a close series it’s going to be a close series it has been a close series 11-point game six-point game two-point game one-point game and a three-point game who knows what game six is going to be like my guess based off of this pattern here is that it’s going to be a good one it’s going to be close and whether you like these two teams or not this is good basketball all right y’all we t we covered quite a bit here now if we really wanted to get into the nitty-gritty we are going to have tip off here in just a moment we can break down each of these players and talk about their regular season numbers versus their postseason numbers kade Cunningham getting more playing time on the court right there he is getting more rebounds more steals and more blocks during the postseason but he’s also attempting more shots and not sinking them so his field goal percentage has gone down his three-point percentage has gone down way down down to 25% and he is averaging less points this postseason and that is going to have to change today for the Pistons to win this one on the other side we look at the Jaylen Brunson numbers jaylen Brunson playoff basketball fired up right there jaylen Brunson playoff basketball looks like three more points almost four more points per game more assists more rebounds more blocks more shots lower field goal percentage you seeing a pattern here little point guards who are running around luca is not built for speed like that and that is something that has to be recognized but on the defensive side the coach has to recognize that and change The 2025 NBA Playoffs have delivered drama, grit, and classic basketball moments, and Game 6 between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks is set to be another epic showdown.
The Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks are locked in a fierce first-round NBA Playoff battle, with the Knicks holding a narrow 3-2 series lead after Detroit’s clutch 106-103 win in Game 5.
Detroit Pistons: Fighting to Survive
The Pistons, seeded sixth in the East, have shown resilience and heart throughout the postseason. Down 3-1 and facing elimination in hostile Madison Square Garden, Detroit’s young core responded with poise. Cade Cunningham, the Pistons’ dynamic point guard, led the charge in Game 5, scoring 13 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and hitting clutch free throws to seal the win.
Detroit’s game plan has been to push the pace and attack before New York’s half-court defense can set up. The Pistons are averaging 14.37 seconds per offensive possession-second-fastest in the playoffs-and have been most effective when getting out in transition. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has emphasized quick ball movement and early offense, and the numbers back him up: Detroit scores 119 points per 100 transition plays, compared to just 89.6 per 100 in half-court sets.
However, the Pistons’ playoff journey hasn’t been without adversity. Defensive anchor Isaiah Stewart has missed the last four games with knee inflammation and is once again questionable for Game 6. His absence has forced Paul Reed and Jalen Duren to step up in the frontcourt. While Reed has provided energy and rebounding, the Pistons’ interior defense and rim protection have been tested. Jaden Ivey, another key young piece, remains out with a fractured fibula.
For Detroit to force a Game 7, they’ll need another big night from Cunningham, continued two-way play from Thompson, and a strong showing on the boards. The Pistons are slight 1.5-point favorites at home, and oddsmakers expect another tight, low-scoring battle with the over/under set at 213.5 points.
New York Knicks: Seeking to Advance
The Knicks entered the playoffs as the third seed and looked poised to advance after taking a 3-1 series lead. But after dropping Game 5 at home, New York must now win in Detroit-a place where they’ve already secured two victories this series-to avoid a winner-take-all Game 7 at Madison Square Garden.
Jalen Brunson, the Knicks’ All-NBA guard, has been the engine of New York’s offense, but he’s been hounded by Detroit’s perimeter defenders and is playing through a nagging ankle injury. Despite leaving Game 5 late with an ankle tweak, Brunson is off the injury report and will play in Game 6, bringing his trademark poise and shot-making to the biggest stage. Josh Hart, who suffered a hard fall on his back and wrist in Game 5, is also healthy and ready to go, giving coach Tom Thibodeau a full roster for this elimination game.
Offensively, the Knicks have struggled to maintain their regular-season efficiency. Ranked top five in offensive rating during the season, New York is just 11th among playoff teams, and their effective field goal percentage has dipped to 13th. The Knicks’ slow, methodical pace-third-slowest in the NBA-has been further bogged down by Detroit’s physical defense and full-court pressure on Brunson. New York’s tendency to play deep into the shot clock has resulted in more late-clock possessions and tough looks, especially when the Pistons force the ball out of Brunson’s hands.
Karl-Anthony Towns, acquired at the trade deadline, has had moments of brilliance, including a game-tying three in Game 5, but he and OG Anunoby need to assert themselves early to take pressure off Brunson. The Knicks’ starting five, so dominant in the regular season, has been outscored by 13 points over 118 minutes in this series, while Detroit’s starters are a playoff-best +43 in 71 minutes. For New York to close out the series, they must limit turnovers, push the pace when possible, and get Towns and Anunoby going offensively.
Frontcourt Battle: Jalen Duren’s rebounding and rim protection are crucial for Detroit, especially if Stewart remains sidelined. The Knicks will counter with Towns’ shooting and Mitchell Robinson’s energy off the bench. Second-chance points and paint defense could decide the game.
Bench Production: Both teams have relied heavily on their starters, but a timely spark from the bench-whether it’s Paul Reed for Detroit or Deuce McBride for New York-could swing momentum in a tight contest.
