Who will be the Knicks next coach βοΈ ‘I STILL think Jason Kidd is the right guy’ – JWill πΆ | Get Up
planning to meet with former Kings coach Mike Brown and former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins for their vacant head coaching job this will mark the first stage of formal interviews for that job brown interviewed for it in 2020 made a strong impression before the Knicks decided to hire Tom Thibido now merely conducting interviews is a step in the right direction for the Knicks they had previously been denied permission by teams to speak to Jason Kidd and Eime Udoka and Chris Finch and Quinn Snyder and Billy Donovan and before we dive into who they should hire I I I did see this again i was this weekend quite a busy one for me but I did see that you had made some comments that I wanted you to share here with our audience if you could as as an NBA head coach and I will remind everyone literally a lifer your dad was a coach in the league forever so you grew up in this the frustration I think you were voicing on behalf of NBA coaches with how dispensable it feels like the position has become yeah i mean first off I want to say like we have the greatest jobs on the planet if you’re involved in basketball right if you’re involved in the NBA our jobs are phenomenal so I don’t want to sound like I’m up here complaining or you know upset about the jobs that we have won’t do that but what I do want to do is make sure we continue to put respect on the name of coach in the NBA and we have some extremely talented people who do phenomenal jobs but when you look at what happened to Taylor you look at what happened in Denver things that happened down the stretch uh it just seems to me that there’s a lack of respect for what coaches bring coaches bring leadership coaches bring respect coaches bring discipline they bring organization they’re the ones who help build culture and what is sustain success and when you are inconsistent with your coaches and you decide to move off of them more quickly like that’s where your team is going to be up and down like you have to have consistency and if you hire the right guy you believe in the right guy when things get tough you don’t punt the right guy you stand behind the right guy you show support and you allow him to carry on doing the job that he’s been doing for you i’m so glad that you shared that here again Mike Malone won the championship a couple of years ago he’s fired tom Thibido just took the New York Knicks further than they had been in a quarter of a century he’s fired now these are individual circumstances and in each individual case there may very well be legitimate reasons but I think it is in inarguable that the position of head coach in the NBA has been to some degree disrespected in the last generation or so as the players have become their voices have become so much more powerful within organizations to his point you also need to have the right front office and the right owner that has a backbone to say “Hey I know what you guys think you may want but this is what you need.” And that’s not in every organization JB no courage matters and that’s what I think a lot of times is like the easy thing to do is fire the coach right the fans are yelling and there’s a lot of organizations as sad as they may sound live by the model that perception is reality as basketball coaches we live by the idea that reality is reality and basketball reality is the job that we do every single day can I quickly point out the two places that they do value coaching san Antonio Miami how are those franchises worked over the last 25 years two of the most successful what Pat Riley had to back Eric Spa remember that LeBron Gway did exactly what you do exactly and no matter who the circumstances are look I mean I I I get it in football all the time i hear the football coaches say all the time if the players are looking over your shoulder at anybody else you’re done before you even begin in basketball the players just simply are more powerful than the coaches in almost every circumstance and that creates a dynamic that has made this what it is and if you look at it the teams that are in the finals now they trust in Rick Carile mark was their G-League coach right and Sam Prey made the decision to elevate him build through you know the ups and downs of what it was going to take to get to where they are now both those teams are in the final hire the right guy consistency matters very well said i’m glad we had that conversation even if it’s a bit off track because um it it feels important when I read your comments I was I was moved by them okay that said the Knicks are currently the only vacancy in the league who should they hire well look I I I still think that Jason Kidd is the right target i I think that Jaylen Brunson has a good affiliation with Jason Kidd i know that the report says the Mavericks have denied i I think that sometimes the more time you let pass other things could be figured out i can leave that up to the public to try to dig deeper into what that means but I I I think also attracting the right other talent is a decision that front office has to make when they’re bringing on the next head coach as well that’s imperative what do you think of the next situation Allan again you’re very close to it yeah again you got to start the process so you start interviewing the coaches that are available to you that you don’t have to ask permission to interview and you can see right away they’re going for experienced coaches right out of the gate mike Brown obviously Taylor Jenkins let’s talk about another guy that helped the culture there in Memphis but uh I also with Jay I would not completely give up on coaches that are currently under contract i would still wait out that process a little more so the names that we’ve heard you’re saying the nos it not always a permanent no if it’s it’s the it’s the initial no what now has to happen is maybe the coach has to say hang on a second you just don’t ask the girl you like out one time you know what I mean you got you got you got to be a little You got Hey just I’m here today come back with more hours you got it’s a long game marathon not a sprint granny I I do want to point out like let’s play the magic thing really quickly because I I think it is worth pointing out there was a perception I don’t know the insides of it others know it better than I do that the Nick players didn’t like playing for Tom Thibido that he had worn thin whatever the case may be and that it was a playerled change well we had Magic Johnson on the show on Thursday and this is what he said about who now gets the pressure in New York the players wanted him gone there’s a lot of pressure on them players next season because now if you fire the coach and this is what you wanted now you got to step up all the excuses are gone now next season Brunson I if Carl Anthony Town comes back all you guys the pressure is on this that was an important point worth making we’ll see what winds up happening we’ll save time to get back to that a little bit but we do have game five of the NBA finals tonight let’s play a game of more or less the numbers courtesy of ESPN Bed Sports Book here we go allan SGA the total is 33 and a half tonight which way do we go i’m going more this is the time now you’re at home it’s time to take that series under control he showed you at the end of game four that they found something that pick and roll with he and Jay Will yes that play right there was both a push off and a walk um another push off and he did we talk about prepping or on 34 all right tyresese Hallebertton uh J uh also Allan sorry 25 and a half combined points and assists for Tyresese Hallebert and more or less i’m going to go less i just I don’t feel like first of all number one scoring is not really the first thing for him he did way too much ISO at the end of that game he’s going to try to facilitate not score nearly as much all right and then Allan also you for Chad Homegrren 15 and a half points for the big fella you need more he’s got to have another 20 plus game he’s got to continue being aggressive i think if they’re going to take this series while SGA is going to be your finals MVP you got to get one big game out of Chet Homegrid not just a 2010 I mean a big game this could be the one those are Allen’s picks and if you like them we’ve made them a parlay uh they’re put together at plus 520 on the ESPN Bed Sportsbook app look for the more or less featured parlay on the homepage and in the parlay lounge jb let’s get the chalkboard out here or whatever it is that we draw plays up on these days we have an iPad fair enough i decide I always like to I liked it better in the 70s anyway okay take me on the floor tonight what is the most important thing you were watching for tonight in this game five all even NBA final uh the Pacers offense to me uh I thought the offense let them down in the fourth quarter but I thought they changed uh and that was a bit of what OKC did too in the fourth quarter they slowed down they had one assist in the fourth quarter 20 assists on their first 29 field goals they went pick and roll heavy in that fourth quarter oklahoma City started switching and Chad did a great job of moving his feet keeping the ball in front of him turned it into isolation situations so what I also want to say is like there’s this whole thing if I’m the Pacers about we lost this game we lost control four or five possessions in the NBA we’ve seen it is absolutely nothing going into a fourth quarter you think about the three ball you think about Oklahoma City’s ability to get stops so if I’m the Pacers I’m not rattled right now i know we can go back to the formula that we had that got us the lead and we just have to continue to play through that formula jb to your point offensive ratings for the Pacers versus the Bucks 118 versus the Cavs 117 versus the Knicks 118 versus OKC in these four games 108 right so you talk about down the stretch switching instead of going to ISO ball with Tyres Hallebertton and pick and roll i I still think they need to find ways to utilize Pascal Seakkum a lot more because when when when their continuity breaks down if you put them at the nail or you put them at the post you can if that swi switching action put SGA in that cross screen on the baseline just find a way to get the ball in the hands of Pascal Seakum down the stretch i feel like he’s the one guy that his height his size can give you a bucket when you need it the most who are you watching tonight i’m watching Shay Gilas Alexander i’m this again as I mentioned this guy is your MVP he’s going to he has the opportunity to cap off one of the great seasons in NBA history individually and you’re at home you get the win here you have full control and you’re one win away from a championship this is where the greats now on the biggest stage this is where they really announce their arrival as an all-time great you can put the picks up on this are we going to The Thunder Nate are we calling that or are we not calling that we’re obviously you don’t say anything i don’t want you to get fined marshall Lynch okay like what are we doing how’s the game going to be called tonight wait wait so you can hand check but I’m not allowed to get you that’s a push off i’m not allowed to get a push off michael Jordan called the push off look at that he’s handchecking though look all right so wait you just let him go tyler Hallebert play literally four plays before that where he pushes off when he gets called for the offensive foul which one is it when it’s going both way what is it he flops right there by the way that’s a flop i I love the fact that Scott Foster didn’t put air in the whistle he just stood there and he said “I’m not calling that make the shot.” When when your elbow and extends if it stays tight fine pushing this way if it extends that’s an offensive foul he flops all I’m asking for is consistency of how you’re calling the game if you’re going to let them play physical and let them do that two hands on his body he’s pushing to get him off him and then he flops i don’t call a foul there scott Foster did the right thing by letting the play happen you’re talking about that one play i’m talking about consistency throughout the whole game could also [Music] [Applause] Who says Hell no to Brown and Jenkins with me ? πππ
I hope the Knicks get bounced in the first round next year.
Great words from Bickerstaff but THIBS was dirt
yea, if the girl says no first time again. but not when when they already have a partner.
Coaches are disrespected but players are getting traded during practice or the middle of the game. Get outta here
Rick Brunson or Mark Jackson
why haven't they asked the bucks for permission to interview doc rivers? π
People arenβt understanding that coaches arenβt being disrespected. Mike Malone was there for how many years, so was Tom, so was Taylor Jenkins. How long are they supposed to be given a chance to do so. What has Spo or Pop done since LeBron or butler or Duncan and Parker done since they left?
Wow that argument about coaches being flipped through was really dumb especially using Mike Malone in your argument that continuity is so important when he was the coach for 10 years with one of the all time great players and only 1 ring to speak of. Probly should have used the suns as an example.
I could be wrong but I can't figure out why J. Kidd would want to leave the Mavs. He played here, and I would think its a goal to win a Championship here and he has great potential to do so. There's no state tax here which impacts his pay and I think he has good relations with the players here. Plus, The Knicks just fired a winning coach. Why take a chance he might be the next one?
Whether Shai pushed off or not, it still was a travel
Big failure firing your coach and does not have someone to replace β¦..
J will really is a waste of time
OMG π± the Knicks don't have anyone to coach the team for the July, August, and September games!!!
So unprofessional. They better hurry because there's no time left.
Greeny sounds like a hostage talking, can't listen. Who even talks like that?
All this smoke just to give the job to Brunsons dad
Knicks are a joke.
Shame on Hahn for trying to manipulate the narrative.
The Spurs kept their coach because he won championships with David Robinson and Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.
The Heat kept their coach because he won championships with Dwyane Wade, Shaq, LeBron, and Chris Bosh.
The Spurs haven't won anything since Tim Duncan left and the Heat haven't won anything since LeBron left.
It's been over 10 years since those coaches have won anything.
If Indiana wins the chip knicks managment made a great mistake
Put Phil Jackson in the head coach position
Might as well interview Steven A Smith or Spike Lee at this point… GAHHHDAMMN
They gonna give it to Brunsonβs dad
Shoutout to my Knicks fans rooting for OKC β¦
Scott Foster still walks free? When will this man be arrested?
Thibs should work with JJ at Lakers π Knicks should hire Michael Malone as a new HC π
NY and LA are the worse coaching jobs in the league because their management is so impatient they go through coaches like sh!t through a goose.π©
J will has some of the worst opinions on basketball
