Pelicans Fully Commit to Zion Williamson | James Skrmetta Reacts

one-on-one with Pelicans VP Joe Dumar Ladies and gentlemen this was a special request for me as the most watched most listened to voice in New Orleans Sports Media to cover this So we are going to This is a request from Burley D If you don’t know Burley D you can always find him in Pokemon’s Twitch stream Okay ladies and gentlemen let’s go ahead and listen So this is some Zion Williamson talking here Some future of the Pelicans talking here Let’s see what he’s got to say I’m just going to start with the most obvious question here I don’t know what you can say on the most recent development with the Zion situation but what can you say about it Um a couple things I can say One is that anytime something like this happens it’s incumbent upon the organization to take it serious and not be dismissive of it And so I won’t do that The second thing I’ll say is that’s all I can say is that there you go At that point you know you really can’t say anything else you know Yeah I mean the Zion thing is we’re it’s in the stage right now of he said she said who the hell knows what’s going on And like Dumar said you got to you got to take anything like this seriously but you also have to kind of let it self play out and see what happens through the legal systems As far as your relationship with him are you committed to him He was obviously at the lottery with you your conversations with him now that you’ve been on the job for didn’t go well Where does your relationship with him stand Uh we’ve had quite a few conversations We spent time together We actually watched a couple of playoff games together He came over to my hotel and hung out with me and we watched games together and talked about just the game and playoffs and the intensity that teams are playing with Um I I feel like it’s off to a really really good relationship with Zion Uh we’re going to go forward with him We’re going to continue to go forward with him as the uh face of the franchise Um okay Hold on Let me stop you right there Joe because you’re starting to piss me off I’m the face of the franchise Okay Don’t look at me like that Joe But even when I said that to him Fletcher I said to him “We’re going to do this but there’s uh responsibility and accountability that comes with this.” And um and I know what that looks like and uh I was fortunate enough to live it on the court and I was fortunate enough to run it in another franchise and I know exactly what that looks like and what that entails And so um those are the conversations that I’ve had with him And I’m not guessing Zion about this I’m not uh hoping that this is the right thing to do This is how it is This is how So when Dumar was hired my thought was it seems like the kind of hire or it does not seem like the kind of hire you make if you plan on really changing some things And I think a lot of Pelicans fans were expecting big change You they were expecting Willie Green to be fired to move off of Zion or go in a different direction or whatever But when Dumar was hired at least for me it seemed obvious that this was not what he was going to do He wasn’t going to come in here and take a sledgehammer to the team Now I don’t know if I expected it to be this little change And by this little I mean virtually zero Dum Mars has said “Zion we’re rolling through him and we’re sticking with Willie.” And part of me it’s hard for me to buy into that It really is because Zion has been as coddled and protected and whatever by this franchise as you can be as a prospect And this is his seventh season He will have played more for the Pelicans than Brandon Roy played in his entire career Zion has now played with the Pelicans longer than Greg Odin played his entire career You know like this isn’t a okay well let’s see if this works Okay well let’s see if this works Okay maybe we can develop him We’re getting something out of him here We are well beyond that and we are to me we’re entering that like sunken cost fallacy of you have like we’re we’re basically all in as a franchise and we have tied the entire franchise to a guy who is entering his seventh season and I’m not sure if it’s shown that a franchise should be this tight end to him You know like I have some real reservations about if Zion is the player to take the Pelicans to the next level or to any level I mean they were horrific last year It’s not like we’re it’s not like we’re a player away you know So I’m a little concerned about that Same thing with Willie you know where are are we are the Pelicans just like a kind of a new philosophy away Because that’s what Dumar is basically doing Dumar’s coming in and saying “Well maybe if we just reframe some things maybe if we just reframe the narrative or have a different you know kind of a different attitude from the top is that going to really fix that much on the floor?” Because on the floor it’s going to be the same thing we’ve seen On the floor it’s going to be the same players with the same coach with the same systems with the same strategy All that’s going to be the same So that seems like a lot to invest in just Joe Dumar’s like is Joe Dumar’s as a authority figure or whatever or a mentor to Zion or however you want to however you want to say it is he going to have that much change and how long do we wait to see this change because let’s say the Pelicans are 500 next year or let’s say that Zion gets hurt again or any of that or do you just pull the plug on it because at that point you’re entering your you’re on the way to your eighth season of this or do you say well let’s give Joe Dumar’s mentorship and toutelage let’s give that a little bit longer to work you know like is this really going to be a decade of us doing this how it’s done uh this is how it’s done at the highest level uh and so our conversations have been extremely direct and honest and you know not mentioning any words but but but also saying we’re committed to going forward with you do you I think because you have been you just mentioned you know you’ve lived it you played with Dennis Rodman you traded for Rasheed Wallace of course can you use those examples and say having patience in understanding there are unique circumstances and we want to get the best out of you absolutely and it’s ironic that you say that because those are two of the examples I used I also threw Bill Lambir in there too So I I but I’ve said to him that like look um you know you don’t have to be uh a choir boy to be successful in this league You can you can be who you want to be but there’s a level of professionalism that you have to bring that you cannot that’s non-negotiable And this is kind I’m talking about like don’t you think this is kind of weird Like we’re not talking about a secondyear guy a thirdyear guy This is a guy who’s entering his seventh season and I’m not sure what the hell we’re even talking about with this whole like you got to be a choir boy you got to be this you got to be that Like are we just talking about him like spending money on Only Fans Are we just talking about him like watching anime and hentai or whatever is going on Like is that is that what we’re talking about Because I’m more concerned about him staying on the court I’m more concerned about his hamstring I’m more concerned about him missing 30 games last year I’m more concerned about him being injured I’m way more concerned about that than whatever tentacle stuff he’s watching in his free time The thing I told him about guys like Rodman and guys like Rasheed is that no matter what they were doing man when they got to that court it was all business I mean this is that’s an insane framing shot right there And like the Rodman thing even these comparisons are kind of weird I think like think about Rodman’s first seven seasons in the NBA Okay they’re all in Detroit right One two three four five six seven Yeah they’re all in Detroit He plays 82 games One two three four five years in a row Okay Plays 82 games five consecutive years Zion has never played more than 70 games in a season All right Rodman was backto back defensive player of the year in 89 and 90 He was 10th in MVP votes He was third in defensive player of the year his third year eighth his second year He was all all all he was all defense One two three four five five consecutive years Okay Like it’s different his first seven years versus this This is played 24 games played 60 games made all-star team didn’t play Played 29 games played 70 games played 30 games made two All-Star teams one of the All-Star teams is one of the seasons he played 29 games and that’s it Like I’m not sure I’m not sure this is the best comparison Like I understand Rodman was kind of an eclectic guy he was kind of a you know a strange fella or whatever but I don’t know if that’s exactly what’s going on here I mean the ultimate professionals on that court And so I’ve said to him like look I’m not here to turn you into to something that you’re not but I am the guy that will hold you accountable I am the guy that will speak honestly to you and not mince words and and say what needs to be said So he’s he’s been great He’s been it’s been like great conversations Uh and he he he hears me He knows you know kind of where I’m coming from You played in an era when the words load and management didn’t go together in a sentence You came from a much different place of professional basketball One of Zion’s best years here was when Stan Van Gundy said I talked to coach Kay and he said “Put him out there.” There has been the perception here that he has been treated like glass Mhm Will his health is obviously something that’s important Will you approach that differently potentially in just say play So in in in that um conversation that you’re talking about right there the best thing you can do is make sure he’s healthy because if he’s healthy he should play And yeah but that’s the problem He hasn’t been healthy Like I don’t think the Pelicans I mean maybe in some situations or whatever but I don’t think it’s like I don’t know if it’s a bubble wrap situation I think it’s more of just him picking up these injuries Now maybe the Pelicans are one of those teams where and and this is kind of the NBA really where you get a hamstring strain they say “All right we’ll we’ll reassess in six weeks.” You know stuff like that’s more just kind of a chronically NBA problem But so far unless we’re just getting fed the wrong information so far to me it seems more like uh how does he just not pick up these injuries And that and that’s how I see it So I don’t worry about telling him you need to play I just worry about let’s make sure he’s healthy as many games as possible And when he’s healthy he’s going to be on the court Um I I don’t come from you know putting him in a glass case And I I I don’t come from that And I think that you can play I think you can I think Zion had a game a season where he played 70 games here and he had a great season And so so he’s proven that he can do this Fletcher And so I just want him to be healthy I want him to to feel good uh be in great shape be healthy and if he and if he’s all of those things I think he’ll be on the court and he he’ll play great here You have now been here six weeks and you’re three weeks away from a very important draft Do you feel like you have a better understanding of what Gail Benson wants the vision that you have now I guess how has it been for the last six weeks and where are you right now that you are now into this thing So um man there a ton of conversations throughout the building just talking to people on a on a constant daily Um I think the number one thing you have to do when you come into run an organization is you have to know who’s in the building you you can’t start making changes and saying we need this and that until you know your building So I’ve poured a lot into learning the building who’s in the building coach players trainers medical PR whatever it’s it you have to understand your building first before you can start going out and telling the world what changes you need to make So I’m I I’ve poured everything into that veter to know who’s here Where I’m a little torn on this is because and Dumar is just kind of hinted at it but he’s he’s almost like he’s almost uh like have you all ever seen that show Restaurant Rescue and Bar Rescue with John Taffer Dumar is almost doing that where he’s coming in He’s basically saying like “Look the chef is all right the staff is all right the waiters and waitressers is all right We just need to run things better like we just need to have a better culture We need to have a better like more professional kind of atmosphere more whatever And he’s hoping and that’s the big gamble here is that he thinks that or whoever thinks that’s going to create these results And my question is okay well what if the chef’s not good Like what if that’s the issue What if the issue isn’t the you know this philosophical like professionalism and this culture and running an organization whatever What if the issue is what’s on the court What if the issue is the roster And if you aren’t changing the ingredients and you aren’t changing the chef how much does coming in there and kind of doing this like operational infrastructure kind of takeover how much is that really going to change things And at what point do you say “Okay well we painted the restaurant and we you know we we did all this training and we did the safety training and we did all this stuff but these these chefs still can’t cook and this food still tastes like garbage.” How at what point do you say “All right well we need to get rid of these chefs We need to get some new food in here We need to change the menu.” How do you feel I I feel good And I it what it does is give you a clearer sense and what you think you need to do And so the draft is coming up That’s going to be one of the first 10 polls where we where we have to make a stand about who we are And it’s it’s going to be a anytime you do a draft it it it’s a signal to who you want to be You’re you’re you’re kind of saying to the public and to your organization and to your players and to your coaches and everybody who you want to be what you what represents you And so the draft will be the first u of many situations where we get to identify who we are As far as head coach Willie Green there were a lot of conversations Will he remain I know he has he probably grew up watching you play How have your conversations been with him and where do you stand with him and how do you feel about Willie same same almost as as as as Diane and that is just about communicating about uh accountability and really expectations when so the team was decimated with injuries last year Uh I think it would be unfair to strictly judge Willie on last season when the team has been healthy been competitive And so for me it’s I looked at that talked to a lot of people talked to Willie U and and I I thought to myself okay you you owe it to Willie to give him a chance to have a healthy team I mean not to draw a direct parallel to the Saints but this is pretty similar to if you brought in a GM and replaced Mickey Lumis and that GM said “No we feel pretty good about Dennis Allen We feel pretty good about Derek Carr We’re going to we’re going to you know run it back with them There are some injuries whatever.” And I think a lot of fans would be like “Uh I don’t know about that.” But that’s the path Dum Mars has taken And it’s hard to imagine I mean Tom Tippido just got fired and he went to the Eastern Conference Finals you know like Tom Tibido’s going to the playoffs I think four out of five years He has a well above 500 record with the Knicks You know like Michael Malone got canned in Denver what a year two years after winning the finals and his team was making the playoffs like we’ve seen some of that stuff happen and then the Pels are the on the complete bizarro end of it where they’re they’re the team that’s like “Yeah we’ve been a complete laughing stock We’ve been one of the worst franchises We have completely bottled this This has been a nightmare but we’re going to run it back and to to see if we can meet these expectations and all.” So for me it it just Fletcher I just thought it would be unfair to judge him strictly on a on a season where the team was decimated and I I just didn’t want to do that So I think of you even though I know you’re from Louisiana and I grew up here so I’ve known who you are but I still think you’re synonymous with the Pistons You won a championship there You were an executive that brought a championship there I think Pat Riley will always be synonymous with the Lakers but to a huge swath of people he is a Miami Heat person Do you almost embrace the opportunity to say the Pistons chapter is one thing but if I can become synonymous as a known winner in a place that hasn’t known it that would be a crowning achievement of some type Absolutely I I if you just say that for me that would be fine That you said it well Uh um it would be it would be uh an incredible feat to be able to bring that to New Orleans it it’s um you know when the opportunity came up to come here to to to come here and and um step into this role it’s the first thing I thought about it’s it’s the first thing I thought about like how incredible would it be to bring championship basketball to New Orleans uh having grown up in the state um family you know ton of family still here in the state uh knowing so many people in the state I just thought that was the first thought that came to my mind like this would be incredible to go back to New Orleans and bring here and you’re right with the Pat Riley uh analogy because uh there is a swath of people who just see him with Miami and man I would love nothing more than to create that here with New Orleans have a a whole new generation of people that just see it uh me synonymous with New Orleans Pelicans I am one of these people who looks at Indiana and Oklahoma City and thinks it’s great I remember the lockout of 2011 in in I offended some players by saying that there’s six teams in this league that they seem to care about but the other 24 are very important I think it’s great for you all that you can say if four three of the final four are Minnesota Oklahoma City and Indiana That is a clear blueprint that success this isn’t just rhetoric it can be reality Do you feel that way Absolutely Here’s the thing I I I mean look don’t get it twisted Like I understand that a small market I understand that But the Thunder do have the MVP you know like they it’s not like it’s a talentless team winning despite of this or despite of that Like you know this is a team I mean the Thunder are they might not be a super team because of just like you know who who SGA and who some of these players are but they are a roster full of stars And again the MVP is on the team In all my years in the NBA Fletcher I’ve never equated a city with uh being appealing to players That’s a misnomer That’s that’s not really true players want to go where the environment and the culture is incredible There have been teams that sh uh remain nameless that were in big cities that were bad for a long time and no one wanted to go and play there and there’s beautiful cities right and no one wanted to go and play there and and and the weather was beautiful every day and they couldn’t get guys to come play there because the Yeah I mean all that stuff now now that travel is so easy and all these players have like you know private jets so they can kind of jet set to go wherever they want Yeah That’s that’s much less important than it was 20 years ago where the team you’re playing for you are living there You that is your home Like it Yeah In sports it’s way way way different now Um you know factory and travel and all all of that The culture wasn’t right I’ve always believed that if you build a great culture and a great environment players want to go there Players will go to Oklahoma City They just um Harden went there last year Um you know the same thing with uh Indiana Same thing with Minnesota Guys go look you have to live with these people every day for seven eight months out of the year Whether the sun is shining is irrelevant if you’re miserable Telling you So you have to build a great environment Yeah I don’t I mean I don’t think New Orleans has been bad because of the city and I mean like Yeah I don’t think there’s anything to do a great culture and play I I don’t care where it is they will want to go and play in that city for that organization And that’s it’s been that way for for a long time I’m telling you it really has I asked about Zion and you talk about culture How do you feel about the rest of your roster If Zion’s the face of your franchise it certainly sounds like you are in it to win it right now with the age and the players you have Is that how you feel Because some people want to say is it a rebuild What What is he doing out there But if if you’ve designated Zion I is it fair to It’s not a rebuild I’ll tell you that It seems like Dumar has taken the the route of he believes he can win with who is in the building and he is going to try and win with who is in the building Say that this is a team that expects to compete right now with the players they have Another phrase I’ll give you Fletcher is you’re always in a build in the NBA You’re never not in a build Now whether it’s a rebuild that’s different But you’re always in a build Even teams that are playing right now are on the phone talking with other teams about what they want to do in the summertime I’m talking about right now Fletcher the two teams that are in there the four teams that have just been in there You’re never not building And so when people say rebuild it’s just like okay maybe we’re starting over But you’re always in a build We We are always in a build Yeah Yeah I mean obviously every Yeah I mean obviously every team is fluidly tinkering with their roster and Yeah Here’s the other thing I’ll say to you specifically to your question about the other guys Um we get a ton of calls every day since I’ve been here for six weeks on at least four or five other players on the roster Like teams around the league like you know they they they really value these guys It’s great for me to know that we have guys here that are valued around the league by other teams Uh that that’s important for me to know to know who’s in what I was talking Well that’s been the big question you know as some as a someone who’s been a season ticket holder for four years like going to these games and you’re watching Dejante Murray Granted not not not very much of Dejante Murray but when you’re watching him you’re watching C.J McCullum you’re watching you know Brandon Ingram for the last few years You’re watching Zion You’re watching uh Trey Murphy you’re watching Herb Jones You’re watching these players and you’re like “These are good players Why Why are we bad?” Like these are good players Why are we whatever 40 games under 500 Why are we getting run out of the gym What What’s going on The roster doesn’t seem that bad about who’s in the building It’s stuff like that It’s when you’re talking to the other team what is up with these shots and they constantly mention the same four or five guys like we really love that guy on your roster We love this guy on your roster That’s great for me to know who’s in the building Know know you have value with players here in this building Now he’s mentioned this a few times and I think it’s true You know Dumar has been in the NBA office or whatever for the last couple of seasons It sounds like he is trying to really get familiar with the actual basketball side of things with the Pelicans which again makes sense that he’s not taking a sledgehammer to this because I don’t think he knows yet I don’t think he really knows the team the players the expectation the whatever So that also lends itself to why he’s probably saying “Let me just see first Let me see Willie first Let me see Zion first Let me see how this all operates first and then we’ll move forward.” and you know to the Zion thing because I know a lot of people want to say let’s just move off of him but I understand where you can’t because there’s really no value like you have him under contract that he has no value as far as like trade or you’re taking a hit if you trade him So I understand like let’s try and make something happen here I totally get that 100% And so you know I’m not saying what Dumar is doing is right or wrong It’s just interesting that this is where we’re at and because it is it is risky because of how this team has played and performed the last couple of seasons And maybe just my final question here is back to the draft Four the last seven MVPs have come from outside of the United States It’s four players but it’s seven MVPs I’m not saying this is negative I’m saying it as a positive I remember once upon a time you drafted Darko It didn’t work out but maybe you saw what the league was becoming in a versatile stretch big Yeah Do you embrace kind of the international maybe Can you imagine how good the Pistons would have been if if they would have taken Now the Pistons do push back on this I’ve heard interview after interview after interview where they said like if we would have drafted Carmelo it wouldn’t have worked because he would have wanted to come in and be ball dominant and he would have wanted to get his shots and we weren’t like that So it’s almost one of those things where it’s like it probably did work out for the Pistons just because they were so good anyways But you do wonder like what would have happened if they would have taken Dwayne Weight or Chris Bosch or Carmelo or whoever how they play and what they do and understand that is an integral part of this game or not to slight American B I was at the Olympics last year and watched Team USA win at all But I do understand that this game has become amazingly international and 20 years ago you were at the forefront of doing something about that Yeah I I am a huge huge advocate of uh pos positionless basketball I I believe in that I love that That’s something that I’ve been talk about all the time like the position structure the only reason we have positions in basketball is to make casual easier for casual fans to watch But whether you’re a one or a point guard or a two or a small forward or a three like whatever number and phrase you want to say I think it’s insane to be like “No the point guard has to bring the ball up The center has to play down low.” Like all that Uh bigs being able to get out and play in the open court Yeah Um I love the three to a limit I don’t like bad threes I don’t I don’t like bad threes but I like the three ball I like the game the way it is But more so importantly and what we discussed at the league office for the last three or four years is this What I really like is intense competition And that you just saw that with Indiana and New York You just saw that with Minnesota and OKC And they have it in Europe Believe that The intense competition is what draw fans in People wake up the next day and like did you see that game last night Yeah Intense competition and players playing The NBA has had a huge problem with player power because they don’t play They take days off load management whatever But yeah when it is intense I mean we just saw like the Knicks Pacers series was the NBA was back I felt like I was in 1997 again But it’s no surprise like if the players are playing and they’re playing hard it’s a beautiful thing to watch The problem is ask the 76ers ask the Clippers ask the Pelicans You can’t ever watch your stars play They don’t want to play Like Joel Embiid will not play against certain centers you know like they won’t Kawhi Leonard won’t play on backtobacks Like it sucks right Yeah In the playoffs all that goes out the window and the game is amazing So if we can curtail some of that and make the regular season as intense yeah the NBA be an incredible product It was incredible That’s what draws people in And so that’s what I really want to bring here to New Orleans Like intense competition where I mean like I just showed you Dennis Robin played five consecutive seasons 82 games in a row People wake up the next day and go did you see the Pelicans last night Like it was crazy that game last night That’s what you want to draw more so than did he shoot a three or was it a like that’s secondary to me But the NBA also did it them to themselves because the NBA also pushed which it was good on one hand bad on the other hand but they were so deep into the idea of like clips Like everything was clippable Everything was a dunk or a block or a three point this or a timeline three this It was just like all these clips that made the game kind of irrelevant It made the game seem slow because people wanted to watch like dunk dunk dunk dunk dunk three three that’s it you know the like slower actual full game the NBA kind of got away from and went more to that like Vine Tik Tok whatever clippable kind of content And that hurt them because that’s all people care about It’s all people want to see Now the playoffs are more of the full thing It’s more of the full meals It’s more of the full experience and people are enjoying it because it’s high level of competition great players playing playing their ass off the intensity of drawing people in That’s the number one thing you want to bring want to bring here And as we go do you have a message I know when you were introduced here a month ago you had a me do you have a message for fans Do people stop you on the street and ask you about the team Not that you want to make promises but is there something you would like to tell the fans to be excited about basketball That that what I just said I I would say that right there to any fan that I ran into or on on with you right now Fletcher I want people to come to the games and go “Did you see the PL games last night M those guys are intense every night you go in there because I’m I know for a fact that’s what bring it.” It’s not “Hey the Pale shot 43 threes last night That was great.” Like who cares if you lost a game Who cares if it was a boring game People care about the intensity competition of sports That’s what people want to come and see And so with us that’s what I want to bring here Like I I know that that sells I mean it’s it’s sold forever and it’ll continue to sell and it’s selling right now I agree with you Indiana and and uh OKC should be a great two great teams I don’t care what market they in It’s two great basketball teams Agreed Great interview I mean I thought Dumar’s was very I loved his answers I hope he’s right But if Zion plays 25 games this year and you know whatever it’s it’s more of the same you got to do what you got to do But I respect him coming in here and saying “Let’s not be hasty Let’s let let me see what’s going on.” He’s a basketball dude He loves the game respects the game I think he wants to play the game the right way which okay but you know how it is You got to have results And he’s taking a patient approach to a fan base that has run out of patience is how I would put it You know he’s he’s basically saying like “We’re going to do this the right way We’re going to do this We’re going to do that But the fan base is already like “Okay well we have suffered for a few years here Like this is getting kind of long in the tooth.” I am willing to give him the shot I think this was a great interview And I I everything he said so yeah I agree with that But like anything in life you got to see the results Okay ladies and gentlemen Pelican’s content huh Get on down in the comments below Let me know what you think Thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next

Are the New Orleans Pelicans fully committing to Zion Williamson as the face of the franchise? In this video, James Skrmetta breaks down recent comments made by Joe Dumars, the Pelicans’ executive VP of basketball operations, that seem to signal a clear direction for the team moving forward. Dumars recently told The Times-Picayune that he’s had honest, face-to-face conversations with Zion—and the message is loud and clear: “We’re going to go forward with Zion.”

James dives into what this means for the Pelicans’ long-term strategy, what Zion’s future looks like in New Orleans, and whether this commitment can help the team finally turn the corner. With injury concerns still looming and a July 15 deadline approaching to fully guarantee Zion’s $39.4 million contract for 2025-26, the franchise’s leadership is doubling down on the former No. 1 overall pick. But should they?

We also touch on recent reporting from Yahoo Sports and The Athletic about the Pelicans potentially shopping their entire roster—but keeping Zion in place. Don’t miss this deep dive into one of the most important offseasons in New Orleans Pelicans history.

Bro, I don't blame you , but I was only listening with my right earbud… And I thought I lost you at the beginning of this video but the interview video is only left channel… I swear to God the Saints and I guess the pelicans need to hire a competent audio person… I can do it myself.. would love to

  2. willie should absolutely be out the door, but i think comparing zion to derek care is fricking wild. i can't fathom how you can watch the guy play basketball against nba defenses, and also think you should accept contract filler players and bad picks for a guy with a conceiveably and statistically backed pathway to becoming a top 5 player in the league. he is 25. yes it is year 7, but it is zion and ad as the most talented and gifted players that we've ever had as an organization and it isn't close. chris paul was just singularly a better player; more conducive to winning games. zion has lebron-type upside; shleep and be warned my brotha.

tldr; preciate you reading james, now do more pels content, please. how would you rebuild this team if not with zion? what would you plan be?

  3. James… I have an educated hunch … let's call it a theory . Zion is actually Majin Buu and he will eat / absorb Joe Dumars and reach his final form… Do you have any info on this ?

  4. Has NBA free agency started yet? Did they have the draft and I missed it? Are teams making trades yet? What changes do you expect Dumars to make right now other than firing Willie Green?

On firing WG, yeah, I would go ahead and can him, but I also see the reasoning for keeping him. First, you have to pay him anyway, and the Pelicans are basically a poverty franchise. Given the state of the franchise you also won't be attractive to very many big name coaches. Another angle, if you're gonna be bad because you have a bad roster, at least in the interim until JD can make some moves, you might as well be bad with a bad coach. I don't think tanking is the plan or else they wouldn't be sticking with Zion, but maybe it is the plan because you would be selling low right now if you did move him. Willie is shown to be an excellent tanker.

  5. The Pelicants are the worst situation in the NBA. Dumars was a lazy hire, he should already be fired. This is embarrassing

  6. Joe Dumars should do what real leaders do. Come in and create their own identity like Aaron Glenn Kellen Moore along with other great coaches.
And you're the real face of the franchise brother you tellm lol

  7. What’s wrong with seeing if the past organization failed Zion first before we make wholesale changes. I know we all want change but I remember pulling my hair out when they held zion back beginning day 1 when he was not allowed to play past certain minutes. I do agree that a coaching change is needed though but in willies defense no coach could have won with zion, Murray, herb jones, Ingram going down. Willie green did do a great job his first two years when he had a decent healthy roster. Last year griffin gave this team zero interior defensive offensive help by trading away every big we had. Nance, Jonas and zeller were let go. No nba team could have won without interior help. Griffin broke the bank to get devonte Murray and did not have the foresight to see that this team needed interior help. We also traded away Dyson so blaming willie green for a skeleton roster doesn’t make sense. Griffin was the worst gm when it came to trading for players.
