Jason Kidd, Knicks have mutual interest — Is it time to leave Dallas? | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Welcome back to
First Things First, There’s a new report that
Jason Kidd and the Knicks have mutual interest
in each other. Wow it’s a tough
beat for the Mavs, even though Kidd
has two years left on his contract with the Mavs. Now James Edwards, the
third of the athletic, is noting there has been no
formal ask from New York. And if there was Brou, the Mavs
are expected to deny permission. Kind of odd. So it’s a unique
situation all around. What’s a better job,
the Knicks or the Mavs. Well, quickly on that too. If Kidd if the
reports are that he he has interest in the Knicks. If you’re the Mavs and you know
you got to find out for sure. Do you really want to go
there if he wants to leave. You don’t want to keep a coach. Exactly right. You get the compensation you
can get from the Knicks for it. But I have been baffled
at watching television and seeing people
say the Mavericks is a better job than the Knicks. Amen many people saying it. I’m like, what in the
world are they thinking. First of all, go
East, young man. Go East. I’m talking to J, kid. You’re still a young man. Like, why in the world would
you not leave the West. I can look obviously
OKC, Houston, Minnesota, Denver, the
Lakers, the Clippers, the Warriors and Memphis. All of those teams. I didn’t even
mention San Antonio, which obviously is coming soon. As long as Wemby is
healthy, they would all be contenders in the Middle East. I think every and I’m
including the Clippers, I’m not saying they will
win unless they would be a major contender in this East. And so if you can
leave the West and go to the Eastern Conference. Number one, do that,
especially when you have a team that is very good on paper. The Knicks have 417
point scorers this year 4 and I’ve talked about
how they can balance that scoring out like they got. They have a great
roster next year. Boston’s hurt. Milwaukee’s hurt because
of Lillard is out. And Giannis who
knows where he’ll be. Indiana is not unbeatable by
any stretch of the imagination. Detroit is coming, but
they’re young like the Knicks will be right there. Cleveland is a bit
soft I hate to say it, but they’ve been soft. The Knicks are right
there and look. Yeah Kyrie AD and Cooper
Flagg looks great. Ad’s 32 and injury prone. Knick AD has not played 60 games
in four of the last five seasons since the bubble. Or since the bubble. He played no. Two years ago. He played 76, I think. Some but he hasn’t
played 60 or Moore in for the last five years. Kyrie might miss all of
next year is is injury prone and 33 himself. Flagg is 18.5 right like
so I think he’ll be a star. I don’t know if he’ll be a
superstar, but he’ll be a star. So here’s the thing the I. I
Amen to everything, Brou said. Go up and down the list of
what you’re looking for. And I’m not a Knicks fan. I’m a little people. Few people used to be one. Used to be. But the who has. And I know this
will sound crazy. Who has better ownership. The answer is the Knicks. You know why. I mean, it’s not that the
Knicks have great ownership. Traded, Luka, but. But the Knicks aren’t
owned by an absentee owners that are just worried about
the gambling business. Who put the
son-in-law in charge. Who has the better front office. Well, I know it’s
not the team that’s run by the guy who traded Luka. I know that OK, so who
has the better coach. Well, it looks like. We’ll see. I think Jalen Brunson is
better than Anthony Davis because of the availability. Like know Club Superstar
AD got out again. Jalen Brunson is entrenched. I would put AD ahead of him
assuming he played every game. Yes but I hear
what you’re saying. But if you were
asking me who would I rather have as my best
player going into a season. I would rather have Jalen
Brou laid out the conference discrepancy, which is as
significant as any moment in NBA history. Yes right. Right now it is as significant
because in other times when we’ve had these massive
conference discrepancies, there has been a a
Goliath individual player in the inferior conference. It was in the 90s, the West was
much stronger than the East, except you had Ewing
and you but but it didn’t matter because
the best player alive by a mile was Jordan. He was in the Middle East. Similar thing that
happened in the like late aughts with the
East versus the West, with LeBron in the 80s. It was kind of the opposite. The East was far
stronger, but in the West was the Magic’s Lakers. And so we’ve never seen
something like that to where it is right now. And that the argument for Dallas
is really, well, Cooper Flagg. But is Cooper Flagg a better
prospect than Victor Wembanyama. No obviously not. The Spurs were not good this
year with Wemby playing. And so like, even if people
believe Flagg is a future MVP, which I think is probably
a little too bullish, but let’s say it is. That’s four or five
years from now. And then AD and
Kyrie won’t be there. So I think this is a 10
8 round for the Knicks. And I think you have
the added bonus of this. I think Jason Kidd believes
if I go to New York, the best player on the team
might not be Jalen Brunson. It might at some
point be Giannis. Well that’s and so I think
for all those reasons, the Knicks are a better job. And I think what Brou
said at the beginning is a very key point. If Jason Kidd goes to Patrick
Dumont or Nico Harrison and says, I would like the
opportunity to interview for the Knicks job, then that
is him resigning as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. You can’t. That’s not in my opinion, a
tenable situation to be like, Nope, we actually won’t let you. And now you have to lead us. So I think it’s
the Knicks clearly. So he was traded when
he went to the Bucs. No 21 the Bucs. When he went was he forced
his way out of the nets? Yeah Nets to Bucks. They got two two
second round picks. He has forced his way out as a
player or a coach of six places. I mean, like, can I ask
you a different question. Just quickly. It’s kind of a major
question to ask quickly. Is it work. Like I know we’re like,
well, the Knicks like first of all, the Knicks,
the team that you saw was a Thibs run team. So I think it’s hard to
project out how the team is going to work under Jason Kidd. There’s also this
Durant Specter looming that it feels like Dolan wants
headlines and names again. So if it’s Kidd I
think Durant work, man. He got a team like he the Luka
team that made the finals was for the last half of the year,
a top 10 defense and an offense that really worked. He had Kyrie and
Luka work together. Exactly people
were questionable. And so like I think
it would work. And it definitely would
work if it is Giannis.

Nick Wright, Kevin Wildes and Chris Broussard react to reports of mutual interest between Jason Kidd and the New York Knicks. They debate whether Kidd should leave the Dallas Mavericks and what this means for his coaching future.

  1. There’s no pressure in Dallas, New York has expectations and crazy media pressure. Dallas has the one pick New York might scrap everything and everyone in a couple years. Just because it’s NY doesn’t make it better

  2. Hands down my favorite show. Watch every day. These 3 guys are so perfect together. So funny, but still keep me informed enough on the sports I like. 😎 🎉

  3. James to the Knicks, Towns to the Bucks and Giannis to the Lakers…a man can dream right😂 GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. This isn't even an east v west debate. The Mavs landed Cooper Flagg. They're going into a rebuild whether they want to or not. I know they have AD and Kyrie but those two are getting old more prone to injury. Kyrie for one is gonna be out a long time and who knows what he's gonna look like when he comes back.

The Knicks job will have him contending right now.

  5. This is Kidds chance to leave and "say without saying" he didn't agree with the Luka trade. Get out while you can. This is coming from me, a 20+ year Mavs fan!

  6. Why would Kidd wanna stay in Dallas with grandpa Kyrie and AD??? And then have to deal with an overrated trash white boy??? Think on why he wouldn’t wanna coach Flagg😂😂😂 and for Thibs, Thibs has been doing this every year since 2011! He ruins his players and teams at the end of the year to fill his ego(coach style) and all that gets him is fired from every team😂😂😂 Kidd would actually use more than 6-7 players in a game😂😂😂😂

  7. Better job: NY or Dallas?

J Kidd is a border line top ten NBA coach.

NY doesn't have the draft capital to trade for him.

Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

  8. Hate to say it but having someone like AD on your roster who is your "superstar" but cant stay healthy is HORRIBLE for the development of young talent. If AD plays 6 or 7 out of every 10 games, that is going to give young talent opportunity and then as soon as AD is back, game plan changes.

  9. Sign Kidd, trade OG anunoby, precious achiuwa, cam Payne, a first round, and a second round pick for KD. Then trade towns and whatever picks left for Giannis. Knicks would have J Kidd coaching Brunson, Durant, Giannis, Bridges, josh hart, Robinson and miles mcbride

  10. imam shumpert was out there tolling rick brunsen in an interview where they asked him who is the next knicks head coach.. and he said Rick Brunsen.. Its Time! Hilarious. But wait what if part of Jalen Brunsens deal with the Knicks to take lower Salary was to launder some money and pay Jalen through his dad as head coach.??? The Jayson Kidd thing is all a ruese. To make it provable in court that the knicks are not cheating the salary cap system.

  11. ESPN tells KD hes a punk for joining the already champion warriors then turn around and say go east …. as in go where its easy to win.

  12. Its gonna be Giannis for Kat, Mitchell Robinson, and 1 of the following three players. Miles Mcbride, landry shammett, or Precious Achewa and the knicks will find it hard to give up Mcbride but he has the most value. but they did give up fan favorite divencenzo so who knows… alls i know is nobody on the nova knicks is going to be traded… but then again divencenzo got traded so who knows.. maybe Josh hart is part of the deal too.

  13. Nicks switch up on AD after he was traded from the Lakers has to be studied. AD was top 5 players in the league when he was on the lakers and now Brunson is better than him according to Nick

  14. Jason Kidd and other rational minded coaches won’t waste their time working for Dolan after what happened to Coach Thibs.

    Dolan’s money doesn’t talk

  15. Dallas has better weather and better tax situation. Media in New York worst media in America. And I’m no fan of Texas they got sundown towns. But nyc belongs to the devil
