LIVE SHOW: PELICANS DRAFT TRADES

to in the no we are here to talk about trades and the draft and the NBA finals and the craziness that’s going on with the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic and how this is shaping up to be a potentially uh insane off season so come check us out tune in let’s kick it off the New Orleans Felic Zion Williamson triple penetration so tough going to the goalion on the rim to rip it down first off first off happy Father’s Day to the two fathers uh on on here i’m just a um pet father but uh that’s not the same thing uh so you guys and Mason especially um you know with the newborn and everything uh hope you’ve been holding up well thanks man and yeah to everyone I’m I’m on the clock right now and so if I ditch out halfway through uh you know why we got a screaming three-week hold or not screaming just just crying um but uh but yes trying to trying to juggle that but it’s been a been a good day love to hear it love to hear it hope hopefully you guys got some quality family time today um you know enjoyed your Sundays it’s it’s been fantastic um I you see in the um in in the in the intro we’re talking about the big trade that happened today and of course we talk about Raphael Devers to the to the Giants bro go ahead let it out get out of your system raphael Jefferson said the Giants the Yankee killer is leaving the American League after he won five of six against the Yankees he’s no longer have to worry about him mason your thoughts red Sox swept us and still found a way to put a smile on my face on a Sunday so I’ll take it despicable all right now that that’s out of the way is that why we’re here no oh oh sorry now that that’s out of the way uh the there was a blockbuster trade today the Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic had quite a shocking move with by trading Desmond Bane u to the Magic the Magic gave up Contavius Cobalt Pope Cole Anthony uh their pick this year the convoluted swap uh from Phoenix next year a 28 and 30 unprotected first round pick and a lightly protected swap in 2029 that is a mouthful to say um I think even just like reading what the protections are on like the Phoenix swap just makes me dizzy but anyways um yes big trade happened today initial initial Yeah the the important thing is that we have we don’t have much time to figure out how to fold something into the Memphis trade this time we have time wait it’s official isn’t it damn it we already made it official official be official this year zack Kimman does this to spite me specifically most certainly oh man okay well let’s break it down from from Memphis side and let’s break it down from from Orlando’s side let’s let’s I think honestly let’s start with Orlando first because they are taking a risk and acquiring the best player um in the deal they are going all in um in this I guess tumultuous East so how do you feel about this move from Orlando my initial thoughts are always hey if you want to go for it I love it i always want a team to say bump it we’re trying to win a championship after especially because of Jason um Tatum unfortunate injury and no offense to Indiana a 50 win team is in the finals currently that I don’t think anyone is afraid of not saying they shouldn’t be they don’t they don’t no one fears the Pacers in the East so I get it i love it absolutely east is it’s always fairly wide open outside of the top couple teams right now it’s especially wide open and so it’s I I I think we may all agree that they paid a lot for this but I respect them making the move um and I I think he’s a great fit with the team and so I think that on the basketball court it makes sense um there’s we we talk a lot about opportunity costs in this podcast because we have a team that doesn’t go for it ever and so far be it for me to criticize team for going for it and so uh good good for Orlando and um it should be a fun team to watch next year so one of the you know one of the things that I asked in the discord is that what is the barrier for all sins are forgiven no apologies from the magic when it comes to this move um you know I think we’ve had conversations about Mikuel Bridges and the Knicks making that move and what the criteria would be for you know like okay that was a smart move you spent five picks what what what do you need what threshold of success do you need to hit so for the Magic it’s a pretty big commitment it’s a obviously a tremendous fit for them he’s a very good player and they were one of the worst if not the worst half court offense in the league and they sat on their hands at the deadline and didn’t do anything to address that and now they are uh swinging big and going all in to address that so with this level of commitment we agree in in general that like okay going for it love to see it but there has to be success that follows right for for it to ultimately be worth the price so what where do you guys set that bar you go first Mason um I think I so I guess when when I’m thinking about like the Orlando Magic and where they’ve been the last 10 20 years like there was a the really fun honestly was became my second favorite team in basketball that Magic team with uh you know with Ho and Rashard Lewis and like and Dwight Howard like that that team was so fun and they haven’t they haven’t they haven’t had a squad like that you know and and I I think sustain success where like they’re not fighting for the play in like the next like two to three years they’re they’re a clear top six team like you’ve got to get out of the first round right but like I’m not holding the Orlando Magic to like you’ve got to make the conference finals you’ve got to do this like I feel like an exciting team that can lock down home court in a playoff series for once or twice like for Orlando but from where they’ve come from like especially given the fact that it’s a you know one of the picks isn’t is it’s I think the 2030 pick is a juicy one but like if you can be if you can at least make the 2028 pick bad like that’s my I think maybe that’s my bar fair fair fair in in the Discord I said you know tough six gamer in the second round it would be forgiven but now that I think about it especially because Desmond has four years on this deal and they’re going to be an expensive team real soon yeah they got to do the conference finals you got to make at least one maybe two conference finals the Knicks went all in made the conference finals the Wolves went all in they made conference finals twice i think that may be the bar of four plus draft picks what the you know conference finals should be the goal what that you’re aiming for yeah I mean absolutely and and and just just an aside here I think the chat we’re going to get to the Trey Murphy stuff um so we’re not ignoring you trust us um but you know I think if you to to Mason’s point I was looking through the Magic’s history since 2010 uh the 2010 2011 season um here’s how it’s gone lost in Eastern Conference first round next season lost in first round then one two three four five six straight years of missing the playoffs then 2018-19 lost in first round 20 uh 19 and 2020 lost in first round and then one two three years of missing the playoffs and then two consecutive years of losing in the first round they have not gotten out of the first round since uh they went to the conference finals in in 2009 and 2010 that is and they haven’t been they haven’t been home they haven’t hit home court in that first round right in any of those examples right they’re always the the dog won a lot of game ones though lot of lot of game ones with Gucci man cory Corey uh Cory Cory Jeff Corey um whatever his name Augustine I think won a game one for him one time yeah they always had the random point guard that just like pops off right um but yeah I mean look I think there has to be success it can’t continue to be a first round out but there’s also this is a a a franchise that doesn’t like paying the tax like many many teams in the NBA many many owners were were not going to go there with their ownership but you guys know you guys know the deal there um but look this is a allin pushing your chips in move and you can’t halfass it this is going to be a situation where okay you did this you this is a team that’s already kind of projected to be in the tax they should maybe try to get out this season but Paulo’s extension when that kicks in you have to be willing to pay pay the tax right i mean you start your repeater clock when Paulo and you know Paulo could be a guy that hits the 30% AllNBA you know rose rule extension like that’s that’s something that they’re anticipating for and and when you look at it that way like Paulo’s young Fran is young um four years you said like left on the on the the Desmond Bane deal the picks are trading out like kind of overlap with like as these guys their core guys are entering their prime and and you know as as Bane might be like falling off the books anyway right like they they’re going to have pathways obviously there’s always a ton of risk when you’re projecting four four or five years out in the future but 2030 is I mean they’re going to have Paulo locked up until then right and and the bet is that that’s going to be a very good player and we’re in the East those picks will be Yeah yep that has to be the bet got to pay the tax though just like the Pacers got to pay the tax there’s There’s no There’s no There’s no ducking it right yeah he got Miles Miles Turner has to sign an extension or a canoe contract this summer no if ends and buts i am curious because they’re like they’re in a they’re in a situation where uh you know they are expensive right now they have a few non-g guaranteed contracts so I’m I’m curious if they’re going to try to navigate that in any particular way so they can like I said just kind of like wait one more season to start their repeater club right like I think Bobby Marks put a video out and he said they’re probably going to um terminate the team options of like Mo Vagner and um these nine $10 million contracts they have Harris I think yeah and try to duck tax that way yeah yeah the other the other push back I have is like okay I talk about like not starting the repeater clock why not just start it next year like is is the East not wide as wide open as as as it has been in the past or at least do a thing where you’re like start the season off in the tax and you figure out you want to get out later or whatever like why not like I think we are in a world um with the NBA where like I think there’s going to be a lot of movement people and and the CBA is going to encourage that and windows just might be shorter than people think they are so like if this is you trying to pry open a window then bust that [ __ ] open man like just just go for it next season when you know that okay Dame is saddled with an injured uh uh Achilles and Boston um has Tatum with an injured Achilles there’s stuff going on jaylen Brown I think uh had a had a minor procedure i mean like look the it’s the Pacers and you know you’re going to you’re going to bet on Embiid like Embiid being healthy you’re going to bet on whatever’s going on in Miami i mean look Cleveland no they’re they’re betting on Trey Murphy being healthy but we’ll talk about that later um right so so I think I think there is an argument to be like damn the torpedoes just go for it next season like why not like you’ll be you’ll be able to I guess come out of it like because you guys are so young like you’ll figure it out later like when it comes to be you know like a cap issues or you’re too deep in the tax whatever tomorrow’s problem yeah couldn’t agree more on the flip side of it is Memphis is making the counter bet right where Orlando is saying “Okay this is our piece that we need to become a contender and and and he’s going to accelerate our pursuit to that that tier.” Memphis is making the bet whereas this is the piece that is preventing us from being a contender i mean I don’t know if they’re thinking about it from that way but they’re like “We are not a contender yet this is you know a tremendous plate we have plateaued with this trio yeah we’ve plateaued with this trio we are not going to look a gift horse in the mouth this is an incredible deal we’re going to take it and we’ll figure it out right so from Memphis’s perspective how do you how do you feel about how they made out in the deal and and you know like what they should be looking to do moving forward yeah we uh think you we talked about this in the Discord too a decent amount i think this is a deal you’ve got to do you got to do it if you’re Memphis absolutely you got a call with this offer and I think just given how the season went for them last year there’s not a debate um it’s where do I sign um and so I think the question then becomes where do they go from here i feel very passionately about the fact that they they’re not breaking things down they’re not gonna dismantle the team like just load up on picks like they’re in a prime spot to do whatever the hell they want i mean you know they can they can be patient they can go trade those picks now for someone i I I think you know they made the right call here um obviously it’s hard to know you know who that next guy is um but they have the ammunition because they don’t they have all their picks now still too i mean they’ve got these new picks they’ve got all their own future picks um and I feel like anytime you’re a small market team your future picks are inherently just more valuable i think people just look at it that way because like okay well if your if your ship breaks down you’re not this like glamour market who’s going to be able to just go get a free agent and and make things better and so I think they’ve got a lot of attractive you know ships to push in for whoever the next guy is going to be with Jiren Jackson and and John Moran so um I think they’re in a great spot i have a question um can the KCP and Cole Anthony deals be traded in the 2025 20 26 off season yes but it’ll it’ll still be subject to like a time like like functionally yes because we’re so far away from games that like it’s just not going to matter like they can agree to a deal and then like when it becomes legal for them to aggregate those deals they can do it it doesn’t take that long but they can flip those guys individually at any point right so like it’s the aggregation that has the time delay but like if you’re just like “All right I’m gonna turn Cole Anthony and picks into Herb Jones.” Um I could do that today you know that’s something they could do that instantaneously um but the the you know I see I see this comment in the chat since I already brought up Herb Jones do you think Memphis is uh going to maybe stay pat this season run it back with Santi um you know just kind of fill in around the edges 16 is uh uh the draft pick that they have you know make that draft pick renegotiate with um Jiren Jackson to kind of like lock it in or do you think maybe they’ll do like a mediumstep move for now and kind of wait till maybe someone more exciting becomes available the medium step being like Herbk Jones right like that’s that’s what I would say medium step it’s like it’s still aggressive it’s still probably going to cost you like two picks at the minimum I would think um but it’s not like okay we’re sending 15 picks for whoever right but it allows them to it buys them time to be like all right we’re we’re gonna be a good team this year so you that’s a good roster john Morant Jaylen Wells Herb Jones Santi Dama uh Jiren Jackson uh Zack Edy Brandon Clark that’s KCP I mean whatever kcp um that’s a solid roster buys him time to be like “Okay well if Cleveland implodes do we push our champs in for Donovan Mitchell?” Right if if I know Matt Espia doesn’t want to trade Deon Booker right now but that’s the one that’s in a year we have that Phoenix thing you know like this time next year is that the one you know you look into like you know what I mean like so where do you guys fall on on like how how the Grizzlies like might operate there i think they trying to go big game hunting if not this summer no later than next summer i think they may look at book they may look at the Boston um duo try to see if they can split one of those up if they are truly trying to get out the tax i think Memphis especially Climbing because he’s fired his coach now they want to go big game hunting and surround J and Jiren Jackson Jr with a big third guy and try to win the West if not this summer next summer yep i I think that’s the that’s the logical play here they they there are fun pieces to talk about but they they shouldn’t rush this they really shouldn’t um they they’ve they have the benefit of time on their side with their stars um they’re young they’re like not even in their prime yet and so they’ll get expensive but I think they I I would expect that they have some like John and Jiren will allow the the Grizzlies to to play this out the right way versus just trying to rush and you know replace Bane as quickly as possible is Memphis if they make zero like you know significant moves is are they a playoff team with this roster right now provided health it’s so hard in the west man they are 11 10 to 11 good rosters in the west and I’m like Portland I can I can look at Portland and say they can make this top eight the way they continue on the path that they started at last year so I don’t want to say yes or no i’m saying that they No I need you to say yes or no dude that’s why you’re on here that’s why I’m here that’s why I got my hot take okay let me challenge yes well yes they’re hot they they can make the playoffs next year with the roster that they have they can but they they’re not a they’re not they’re definitely not a top six team like I mean look at how look how the second half of the season played out i mean like they’re Yeah they I I don’t have enough confidence in I I say this as somebody who in the start of the year last year thought Memphis could be the two seed like that thought that was they kind of were for a little bit and then they Western Conference someone would have said the Clippers were making the 11 seed no one said that yeah but I guess they just they don’t have enough left i mean they could they could get some really big leaps from the from like they’ve got some good young players right so they could get some leaps there but as things stand I I don’t think they’re I can’t put them in the top six um but I mean it wouldn’t it also wouldn’t shock me you know yeah look I mean I I see it like Edy Edy takes a leap and becomes a solidified dude santi takes a leap becomes an even better player i think he’s a very good player right now jaylen Wells takes the leap you know like I think you know maybe Gi Jackson starts being able to contribute at a higher level oh no we might be having uh uh having to do dad duties but that’s okay um that definitely comes first this podcast does not um but yeah I mean we’re good do a quick check okay okay good good good um but yeah I mean look I think there’s there’s pathways uh where they’re Yeah they’re betting on internal growth and they’re like “Yeah we’re just going to buy it our time and when when it’s right we’ll strike.” Uh because they have been conversations with with for Jimmy Butler they have been in conversation for some of these other names i’m curious if they if they are uh being aggressive right now you know if there’s names out there that they’re that they’re chasing i don’t know um could they be could they talk Kevin Durant the want to come over if they give him the 120 $130 million that he wants sheesh i mean look Durant listed all the all the teams uh that don’t pay state income taxes and Yes um Memphis is a state where that applies uh so if you’re his business manager maybe that’s attractive for you but um look I I think Durant the Durant situation like I look nothing would surprise me at this point if they were like “Yeah like we’ll take Durant like that’s good you know it makes sense for us.” Nothing would surprise me but um you know the way I think my bet on the Durant situation and this is like partly informed and partly uh just kind of reading the tea leaves here is that Me not Memphis Minnesota is the one that ends up with him uh at the at the end of this i think they are separating Minnesota is separating themselves from other teams because Phoenix and Matt Ishbia they want to be good next year and and they are trying very very very hard to talk Houston into giving their picks back so then they would have more optionality but Houston’s like I don’t really want Kevin Durant you guys are asking for too much we believe in our young guys and we would also like to wait for Booker to become available Giannis to become available Donovan you know these other guys right but if the cost becomes low enough sure maybe but the what you’re asking for right now is not what we’re interested in that so what Minnesota’s doing is like fine Rudy Gobear on the table on the table and and I think that is what’s separating Minnesota from from other teams is is I think they have a willingness to trade Rudy here and that is something where okay if you’re Phoenix you’re like we can build around this idea of Booker we have a like concrete defense with Rudy and maybe you know Brad Beal has a bounceback season if KD’s not there uh to share you know the usage whatever I don’t know what kind of picks and ancillary stuff is involved or anything like that um you know I think it would be interesting if they’re able to pull like any kind of like rotation pieces um from from Minnesota to make them the salary work or I you know what if they have to get Brooklyn involved to dump salary because both of these teams like are so tapped out that like doing a trade will trigger an apron um you know Phoenix is already way past the second apron so it’s just like you know it’s one of those things where it’s like there’s a very fine needle to thread here but yeah it’s it’s possible and and yeah I mean we’ll see i My bet is Minnesota pulls it off the the the the inability to sign and trade for N kind of takes a lot out of this doesn’t it because I think Na and Rudy would be like a great starting point unless they you know what’s my um Dante unless Rudy and Dante sounds like a good compensation package to build around to get KD yeah I mean we’re all spitballing here because like we don’t know the salary because the salary structures have to be very precise because of both team situations and more than likely I would guess is they get a third team involved to help smooth out the salary issues uh I’m just thinking about Julius Randle’s role as third third score and how he’s going to take that hey man the Julius Randle’s drives he could touch the paint in ways KD K anymore so I I thought was really impressive i thought he was really impressive starting like from February on thought it was really really good he he played the he filled the gaps where it’s like okay like there’s a clear playmaking need there isn’t a need for me to dribble dribble dribble survey survey you know chuck chuck a shot and and I thought that like I’ve been a Julius Randall like disbeliever for a very long time and I think at every moment like Randle’s like proven me wrong and and so like you know he’s he’s taken a leap from where he was as a Pelican made all NBA with the Knicks you know uh did it twice got traded to Minnesota and then kind of like reinvented himself as like all right cool like ants the dude I got to fill the gap somehow and this is how I’m going to like fill him but you’re right Mason i don’t think it’s a clean fit necessarily um but it’s a $55 million expiring if he doesn’t sign yep yeah anyway there’s also the Nas Reed component nas Reed is due for a raise i think I think they’re going to just say bump the salary they going to keep him too and that’s at least a fun offense man that’s that’s the structure for a fun offense and I That’s what we said about Phoenix right oh yeah hooper Ball oh it’s See I believe they got Jaden McDaniels that’s all they need right jay McDaniel it’s like a Spider-Man meme where he’s holding his brains together with his web that’s right that’s right locked in a Jade McDaniels other dudes trying their hardest no they only really need to they only really need to like win enough games to have home court that’s I mean not even home court but but preferably right that’s all they need to do and then they turn off the defense in the in the playoffs you see we’ve seen it with the Pacers who were a dreadful defense for a very long part of the regular season and they started turning it up as as as we got closer to the playoffs and in the playoffs it would just been physical effort just like in your face picking you up um you know like the just just Shay Gilles Alexander like can’t breathe without Andrew Nemhar just like you know what I mean like it’s it’s it’s it’s different it’s it and I think I’m a big believer that I think we talk about all the time on the pod like playing hard is not a separator because in the playoffs is like everybody plays hard plays hard it’s kind of it’s kind of where I’m at but um yeah I mean interesting stuff on the Durant stuff now we can start transitioning to the Trey Murphy stuff so I I think there is there was a report by by Kevin Okconor uh there’s been a couple reports by Kevin O’Connor that I think people have irresponsibly aggregated funny how that happens right um funny how that happens so So KC initially had a report where uh he said you know like there are no untouchables on the Pelicans roster cool and I think there was another report where he said the the Pelicans could be interested in moving up he didn’t really specify where to really specify he just and then afterwards he has speculated on hey maybe this is what a trade could look like and I think people took that and ran with it and they they ran with it and so there’s two names that are out there that like every fan base is trying to trade for Trey Murphy and Herb Jones because of course those are the guys that fit every single team and on the Trey Murphy front um one I I I think we’ve already said this on this podcast uh the Pelicans have no desire to trade Trey Murphy pelicans have no desire to trade Herb Jones however if you wow them with a Desmond Bane style deal they will listen and there will be a dialogue and there will be conversation now do you think Trey Murphy is worth more or less than Desmond Bay more yeah absolutely between the age um the potential um having what uh 7 to 80 million less committed to him as a cord to Dez and shouts out to the homie Eddie on Twitter he can tie his shoes without sitting down because he has long arms yeah he’s he’s worth more yeah yeah um Yeah i mean so what would be your threshold for for moving Trey like what what how how wow would it need to be now this is where I’m going to sound like I’m contradicting myself but bear with me san Antonio would have called me and said “Was sell the 2027 verse 14 and two Atlanta 2027 verse and two for Trey I will listen it’s less first round picks but one of them is Dylan Harper and if I could get Dylan Harper I have my cornerstone player in hand so I would definitely listen to that trade is it less first round picks yes but Dylan Harper in hand is about three first round picks cuz the you you you go into this draft with 2,7 and 14 i would consider it okay i mean I’m me i’m tearing it down like the the trade trade is the symbol that we’re tearing it down that everyone is up for sale so if I could get two um 14 and seven or or maybe pack a seven and 14 and see if we go up to five and um have two top five picks yes I would consider that very much i I think Trey Murphy is worth more than Desmond Bane um I I do get a little squeamish when I when we try to compare like the these deals like the Muel Bridges deal and the Desmond Bane deal because these are like these deals sometimes happen in a vacuum but like they’re I just one bidder who got desperate right and so that’s the threshold here is that if you’re waiting and I feel like this is kind of how the Pelicans got into some of the challenges they were they were in and not moving not making moves it’s like if you’re if you’re trying to compare to one specific situation and how that happened you may never have that specific situation play out for you um and so you I mean we could argue that’s you could argue something about B like BI is that what happened like they just kept waiting and waiting for the perfect deal and it never came right i mean no no no i mean it’s not even like the perfect deal like but you’re right the the the concept applies there is you got left holding back right yeah and so you can’t wait for that the the infamous KD rumor and saying “Don’t trade him because he’s KD.0.” And I’m like “No KD 1.0 won two titles and was 30 points per game guy it’s not KD 2.0.” Like if the deal comes you you can’t be twirling your thumbs and waiting for the perfect one there were 100% opportunities and I won’t elaborate on them to trade Brandon Ingram for players of all NBA talent uh talent um and they were not explored i’ll just put it that way so yes like there could have been done right like could have been done um yeah I mean look I think I don’t know i I I think there can be teams that talk themselves into Trey Murphy get that desperate and and he’s he’s just such an incredible fit in any team context that a team could very much be like “Dude it’s four years of contract control he’s not even done uh improving he just had the best season.” Imagine if we get him into a system that actually values creating shots for him actually runs plays for him like there’s still there’s still like meat on the bone that that that there that you know like it’s not there’s low hanging fruit you know like and and and I don’t know i I feel like you you mean he just can’t get 23 points a game with intensity right right yeah oh needs to cut harder and uh man whatever um is not I would roll my some some of those like in postgame interviews that uh uh that Willie Green had um were incredibly funny because we it would be the classic game where like Trey goes off for like 22 points in the first half and then he doesn’t get a single shot for like 17 minutes of of like the you know um and then you talk to Willie and be like yeah like you know what what happened out of half and he would just kind of give some mealymouth answer about like yeah the opponent and adjusted and Trey’s just got to play harder and cut harder and you know he can create shots for himself by screening and yada yada yada yada but when you go and watch the tape and you’re like they didn’t make a single adjustment on Trey you just parked him in the corner every single possession because the idea was “Oh Trey’s on a heater he’s going to have gravity now so park him in the corner so CJ can go cook.” Like what clippers the Clippers game December 31st I believe and Trey and Herb are going off and yes they put Norm on Trey and he was in his jersey in the corner and Norm was able to go off for 35 cuz he was relaxing on Trey in the corner and you never thought about you don’t think about it in that aspect like make him move make him go through some screens you tire him out and you open up it’s a lie when I I I’ll tell you this when they say something like “Oh you should have like set screens or cut.” No Trey is being instructed by the staff to go stand in that corner that is an instruction now you can say like “Okay well Tra just say “Fuck it like I’m going to go do my own thing.” Like that’s a separate conversation whatever right but like he’s being instructed to go run to that corner um anyways like that that that is and it’s funny because like it’ll be the same night and like Trey Murphy will do an interview and you can say you can there’s just so many things unsaid and he’s such a professional when he gives those interviews but there’s so many things unsaid when he’s giving those interviews and you could be like yeah like you know what’s going on here anyways um I I think I think we’re all kind of in agreement here that like look if if there’s superolous value superfluous I don’t know if there’s if there’s a ton of value coming in for Trey or Herb like that’s that’s a conversation the Pelicans got to have but you know I I don’t know that the Pelicans I don’t think personally in my opinion I don’t think the Pelicans need to be proactive with Trey uh again four-year contract they have time to figure it out and of course there’s risk involved like someone gets injured someone you know whatever like that happens with anybody but in general like you have good reason to believe that this is a guy that’s a relatively stable commodity that’s going to keep improving and you’ll have other opportunities right because four years is such a long time i feel a little bit less confident with the Herb situation and I wanted to get your guys um thoughts on that he has two years remaining now if I always just say you can’t make the perfect deal but if there’s a suitable deal out there Austin Reeves who’s on the expiring if you can make something happen if you could I would be open to moving her for the same reason why I’m saying Austin Reeves that the Lakers should be open to move Austin Reeves but because they’re not going to extend on the current contract they’re on they’re going to enter unrestricted free agency you can’t extend on it so two years on this deal I would make the move i would be open to moving Trey more i mean Herb more than Drake yeah I I I I agree i think I I think the value the relative value Herb Jones has to Pelicans versus potentially other teams is further apart on a relative basis than Trey like I think Trey is super valuable to the Pelicans and super valuable some other some other teams i think Herb Jones his contract his his game I think he fits he fills he fills a void for a lot of teams in a co cost effective way that might be closer to a title um and so I feel like there’s value surplus value there on Herb Jones contract to move now versus waiting um and and so if the right deal comes comes about then you you pull the trigger yeah I think I think you you nailed it on the head with with the value of contender because that contract is so low it’s so many so many teams in the in all these aprons and all this kind of stuff it’s so much easier to trade for it is so easy to to you know like I think I think I could be wrong i think you can now just slot his contract into the non taxpayer MLE so if you’re you’re not you don’t have any of these these apron restrictions and you have enough bandwidth under under them you could just take you just absorb them i I have to double check but I think it’s like in that bandwidth now but the other thing is like yeah it’s like pretty easy to cobble together like $13 million worth of salary and match it and boom you have a trade going the other thing is I think you kind of risk a OG Anobi or Dorian Finny Smith situation where the time to move them is with two years left on the contract at worst you move them at the deadline right like I I I am completely open to this idea of look if Dumar wants to be good they’re going to make some trades whatever they’re going to see how it goes yeah carry that all into the deadline and if it’s not going the direction you want at the deadline hit the eject button because I still think with it’s pretty typical to move guys with a year and a half left on the deal like they they don’t lose that much value from like now versus February but they lose a ton of value if you don’t move them in February and they get to that one year mark and then all the value is gone in my es especially a guy like Herb where I think we’ve talked before about how hard it can be to trade for a big name at the deadline and have that big name fit and and like make a huge difference that that same year i don’t think that’s the case with Herb i think you can you can trade for him and he’s immediately going to impact winning to the degree you expect when you trade him versus like other stars it might it might not be till next year where you fully realize they’re you know the integration of that guy to your team you know defense will travel yeah we are watching we are watching Alex Caruso be like the second best player in the finals right now right now there’s there’s like I promise you there’s teams out there thinking like can her be that guy can that can that be it for us you know what I mean like I don’t know i mean that that’s kind of where I’m at again I think on an individual level I would love for Jones to be the New Orleans Pelicans forever i mean that guy’s incredible to watch right but the Pelicans are just in such a weird team building situation where it’s like are you good are you bad what direction are you headed and there’s so many questions that we have yet uh to get answers on and I think you know we’ll we’ll probably start finding out when it when it comes draft time the last thing I wanted to to touch on is this like moving up for for Ace Bailey um at three specifically that we talked about it on the live last podcast and we’ll say it again daryl my is a liar what was it jay Harden quote i’ll say it again daryl my is a liar um no uh apologies to to Daryl but um yeah I I think anything around that is coming out of Philadelphia and the Pelicans uh I would be shocked i’d be shocked if they made an aggressive play to move up to draft ace at three telling you I don’t see it i think there’s a number of guys that they like in in in the range that they’re at i think they’re optimistic that some some one of these guys are going to fall through the cracks and be there at seven maybe maybe a Khan Canipple maybe you know maybe Malawak is there maybe Fears is there i don’t know i think they like a lot of guys in that situation and if none of those guys are there I would not be surprised if they look to trade back you know I think there’s there’s I I will say that like Troy Weaver loves the draft he He loves the draft that is his specialty and I do think if that is your strength as an organization if we want to say that’s that’s his strength yeah go get multiple picks right like that’s that’s the space you want to operate in go get multiple picks and um I would say that that’s more likely than trading up for for three I I I would put it most likely stay put next most likely trade back and then the least likely to to trade up that that’s I think how I would grade it but you never know so I have to stop my fanatics Ace Bailey jersey maker i mean you can do whatever you want dude oh man um I think that’s Anything else fellas i’m I’m borrowed time as it is i can’t believe it lasted this long I’m hungry i’m going to go eat but yeah I think that’s it and I really appreciate everyone joining uh on their Sunday night or Father’s Day so shout out to you all happy Father’s Day um if you’re 1. Yeah you guys are being super unrealistic about Trey Murphy’s trade value. The spurs aren’t offering #2 for Trey. Let’s not be homers here.

  2. Brandon isn’t here anymore, griff isn’t here. Why wouldn’t you elaborate on deals we had to trade Brandon? Why even bring it up if you won’t elaborate?
