3 Realistic Draft Targets For The Toronto Raptors!

3 Realistic Draft Targets For The Toronto Raptors!

[Music] what’s up basketball fans welcome to the Ratch Report it is time to talk about the Toronto Raptors and for today’s video I want to take a look at three players three realistic options for the Toronto Raptors at the ninth position in this year’s NBA draft so if you are ready to watch make sure to hit the subscribe button and definitely stay in tuned for the third player I will be mentioning because it’s certainly going to surprise a lot of you now as you guys know I do like to give out shout outs on my channel and the shout out for today’s video goes out to D Sabo063 thank you so much for supporting this channel through your likes and comments it is very much appreciated so obviously we all have our favorites there’s no denying that we all have our biases as well when we talk about who the Toronto Raptors should draft we obviously have heard my favorite players like Igor Demen Rashier Fleming as well but let’s talk about some more realistic targets for the Toronto Raptors at the ninth spot and let’s start with one player who I haven’t seen a lot of people mention i have been seeing a lot of actually mock drafts talk about the Toronto Raptors potentially taking this player at the ninth position and this is no other than guard Casper Yakonis now why do I think the Toronto Raptors could draft someone like Casper first let’s start with the trend that the Raptors have been following ever since they decided to kind of rebuild here right what have we seen with their last couple of draft picks at least in the first round you get guys like Grady Dick you get guys like Jacobe Walter and although everyone is kind of focused on Kaman Malawatch and you know saying that’s the Messiah prototype I do genuinely believe that Messiah Jury has kind of taken a step back and maybe let Bobby Webster focus a little bit more on the types of players that he like and I think the last couple of picks have been a good indication of that now why do I think Raptors could choose someone like Casper Yakonis you may ask you know um one reason is his ability to break down defenses with his speed his agility and how he is able to dribble the basketball when you look at a lot of teams in this year’s playoffs the one thing you desperately need is good guard play but also good guard plays that are able to attack the basket like Caspers can with their speed with how they can dribble the basketball it is very important when you face really good defenses and you know we’ve seen that with Tyrese Hallebertton as well the reason the Cav excuse me the Pacers are doing as well as they are and the reason they’ve beat some teams that most people weren’t expecting like the Cavaliers and the New York Knicks is because you need those speedy guards that can attack the basket but what this also does is it opens up the floor so much for the other players around you when you face zone defenses if you don’t have half court offense that is really challenging to really face those kind of teams when they play defense like that but then obviously the Raptors have Brandon Ingram i know people are going to suggest that but you need someone that is able to blow by defenders attack the basket now the one downside about having someone like Casper is you need three-point shooters around him because he is not a good three-point shooter himself and he’s not a good defender either so those are some of the weaknesses when we talk about Casper Yakonis but just overall if we’re talking offenses if we’re talking half court offenses no one does it better than Casper in attacking the basket getting his own points but also finding his teammates as well he’s a decent passer and he’s only 19 years old which says that he has a lot of room to grow and it wouldn’t surprise me if he does become a good shooter as well and for the ninth position I think with Casper in a lot of mock drafts a lot of you know people have him falling to the 10th the 13th 14th spot i definitely do think that he should be available for the Toron Raptors to draft at the ninth position so this would give the Toron Raptors something they currently do not have in guard play emanuel Quickley is good he’s great at three-point shooting jamal Shed is great as well in his defensive impact but what they need desperately is good guard play that can do what Caspers does and I think that would be a great pick for the Ton Raptors to have at the ninth position now let’s move on to player number two and this is someone I have mentioned before and someone I think that could impact the Raptors right away now player number two is no other than Cedric Coward when I made a video a few weeks ago talking about Nick Clifford and Cedric Howard a lot of people oftent times don’t take me seriously because they said “Well there’s no way Cedric Howard is going to go there.” And one thing I did state in that video was that do not be surprised if Cedric Coward’s stock really rises and that is exactly what has been happening not only because of his draft combine he has done really well in his interviews as well and he’s a player that can come in and impact winning right away and someone who can contribute right away and especially for a team like the Toronto Raptors you need players that can impact right away especially rookies so his only downside is that he’s a little bit on the older side he’s going to be 22 I believe in a few months or in a month or so but his impact on the offensive and defensive side is something that cannot be ignored when you watch some of his highlights and I’m not only talking about the six games that he played I’m talking about go back to previous seasons watch his highlights in the style of manner that he plays not much has changed in his offensive impact you see the potential there again I’m not going to compare him to Kawawaii because it seems like that’s such a lazy comparison and that is a very easy comparison to make i actually think a lot of parts of his game I’m not saying he’s there yet or he will reach that level it reminds me a lot of Anthony Edwards so his ability to post up Anthony Edwards actually does not do very well uh that’s a part of his game that he needs to improve on but uh someone like Cedric Coward post up really well he’s a good catch and shoot three-point shooter he’s also a good ISO scorer as well someone that can just give you baskets now if that isn’t enough to sell you on Cedric Coward let’s talk about his defense his 72 wingspan helps him gets a lot of steals and it allows him to play bigger than his size and those hands of his really help just kind of get in there and disrupt other players offense as well so I think Cedric Coward could have an impact on both sides and again for a team like the Raptors they could obviously use a small forward that can impact the way you know he does on both ends of the floor but it also just gives you a player that you can insert into the lineup and especially with the amount of players that the Raptors will have to play and obviously you know players you keep hearing and possible trade market that could be moved as Obaji so you get a younger player who’s just as good if not better i think uh sky’s is the limit for Cedric Coward and I do genuinely believe this when I say this that he’s going to wow a lot of people next season during his rookie season minded you know mind you he does get playing time but which he should i think a lot of teams will look at Cedric Howard as a player that can come in and impact right away but also do not be surprised when he’s putting up baskets in a hurry um he is a very intriguing player and I cannot say enough good things about him and I’m I want to sell you really hard on this player in particular cuz Cedric Howard I do realistically believe could be a player that’s on the Raptors target and absolutely should be now let’s move on to player number three this is a player that you know I uh I haven’t mentioned a lot of but it’s going to surprise a lot of people when I mention who this player is that the Raptors should target now this is no other than Colin Murray Boils now I wasn’t too high on Colin Murray Boils as you guys know I don’t like him and Derek Queen too too much for the Toronto Raptors because of their Fed but you know the more you think about it guys would you really be upset if the Tron Raptors drafted someone like Colin Murray Boils absolutely not look like I said we all have our favorites we all have our biases but Colin Murray Boils is a very unique player for several reasons because he’s a 67 guy he’s about to be 22 in a month uh actually tomorrow I believe so he’s a little bit on the older side which is fine but his ability to attack the basket he’s very aggressive he’s obviously known for his defensive impact as well as his rebounding but he can also pass the ball as well he’s a smart high IQ basketball player and you know often times when we talk about good defensive flares um the details don’t really get mentioned you know for someone like um for someone like Colin Murray Boils his positioning on the defensive side is really good again he fights through physical contact which is good he is a very physical player himself and on the defensive side one thing I really admire about him is he fights hard through pick and rolls which is good but he also just positions himself in a very intelligent manner where he’s not trying to overdo things or he’s not trying to you know chase blocks he just positions himself so well and that is one of the reasons why he’s actually able to get a lot of steals and block shots as well because he knows where to position himself he knows his limitations he’s not super athletic but he knows as long as he’s got the body as long as he’s got the position right he can get those steals and blocks and he’s a good defensive flare now I know the question I had with you know potentially drafting someone like Colin Murray Boils was well you know he has some of the same weaknesses that Scotty Barnes does he’s not a good shooter he’s not a good three-point shooter but even in terms of strengths as well he has some of the same qualities that Scotty Barnes has but one thing I do want to mention with Colin Murray Boils is when you look at teams right now in the NBA playoffs you’ll notice that in the last three or four minutes of the game you’ll notice that they go for smaller small ball centers and I think Colin Murray Boils can play that position because when you look at I want to use the Pacers as an example because uh you you have someone like Tyrese Halburn who’s so good at having the getting those mismatches where he just blows by the center and that kind of forces teams to go a little bit smaller because you don’t want those mismatches happening in late game situations and this is where Colin Murray Boles really comes in i think there’s not really a mismatch there and I don’t I don’t really think that teams would want to switch on to Colin Murray Boils because of his impact on the defensive side but also when we talk about Colin Murray Boils playing the center position he is 67 so obviously he’s not big enough to guard you know 7 foot centers but when you have certain centers like Miles Turner for example who’s not a good post player yeah he can hit those occasional hook shots but this is where the physicality of Colin Murray Boles kind of comes in where you can kind of box out you know Miles Turner and really use their physicality to your advantage and have those kind of players guarding some of the taller centers so again calling Murray Boles I would not be upset with i know he has a lot of weaknesses that don’t solve the Raptors problems but I do genuinely believe he would be a really nice pickup for the Toronto Raptors and I’m warming up to the idea of him you know becoming a Toronto Raptor look I know there’s a lot of overlapping skills that he has with Scotty Barnes and just overall what this team needs right but his passing ability cannot be denied he’s very physical in the paint he attacks the basket he can get you points as well so it’s not as if you’re just drafting a defensive guy who can’t score it all right he can get his points he’ll get you a lot of rebounds he’ll crash the boards as well he can pass the ball and just having those smart high IQ basketball players especially in dark roast system you know which requires a lot of ball movement but also we do need some defense as well this is where Colin Murray Boils would come in so these are the three players I have mentioned who you know would realistically be realistic targets because look I would love Igor but it just doesn’t seem like a Messiah type of player you know would I be excited if the Toronto Raptors drafted someone like Eigor absolutely but I wanted to take a more realistic approach and look at the players kind of you know position in that area of where the Raptors should be drafting and some players that I haven’t mentioned obviously as well like Casper and Colin Murray Bole so what are your thoughts on this let me know your thoughts in the comment section below and as always I do have a trivia question for you today and the trivia question for today is which country is Casper Yakonis born in is it A Croatia is it B Lithuania is C Finland or is it D Germany excuse me uh whoever asks this trivia question correctly first in the comment section gets a shout out in my next video so that will be it for today’s video thank you so much for watching and I hope you guys have yourselves a great day and hopefully my camera uh quality didn’t get messed up as it did in my last video so uh thank you guys once again i apologize I haven’t been responding time to respond so thank you once again and I hope you guys have yourselves a great

I will be discussing the latest news and rumors surrounding the Toronto Raptors! For today’s video I will take a look at 3 different players that the Raptors may realistically target at the 9th position. I will explain my reasoning for each player and what they would bring to the Raptors team and why the Raptors could consider drafting them.

  1. I see your takes on the first two guys but CMB I don't agree, he is a guy just lost in the crowd, would not make an immediate impact. I don't believe in a small centre , we have Mogbo to do that work and I don't really believe in Mogbo either

  2. Kasparas is not a good passer, he’s an elite passer / playmaker. He’s a good shooter. He had to
Take a ton of hard shots last season which hurt his %. He’s 32% from 3. But should really
Probably be closer to 36%. A lot of pull up threes from super deep. Awesome size for point guard. Would instantly become the second best passer on the team besides Scottie. I have been saying all along I think Khaman is the pick. But if he’s gone, then the next teir is queen, Carter Bryant, noa essengue, kasparas. Egor / asa Newell / Thomas sorber / Fleming are a tier below them.

  3. I’m sick of telling people Cedric Coward is the pick but they’re so influenced by where people have him on their boards without understanding he’s only that low because he only played 6 games so he’s not going to be rated in the top 10 but he’s top 10 talent. Hell he might be a top 7 talent so you’re drafting that type of talent later in the draft only because he played 6 games. Whoever draft’s Cedric Coward is getting a lottery talent likely outside the lottery. I would be surprise if somebody draft’s him in the top 10.

  4. i have a feeling we might be drafting derik queen. dont think they draft a pg /sg/wing in the 1st round. i maybe wrong but theyve been working out a lot 2nd round pg/sg and wings who may even go undrafted . lets see in 2 weeks
