Brian Windhorst breaks down the adjustments Tyrese Haliburton made in Game 3 | SC with SVP

tyrese Hallebertton visiting with the media after the victory Conversation began with the defense on the MVP Yeah I I I think with with Shay he’s so good Um he’s so slippery you know in between those gaps It’s like he splits screens that you’re like I don’t know how he’s doing that Um and I think in game two specifically if you watch a lot of my coverages I did a poor job of being at the level you know I was back and then he he could come off and he had so much space and now he’s kind of manipulated me with in and out or he can just split and throw through I thought he I thought we had that was something we really had to clean up coming into into today And just you’re consistently trying to mix things up because if you give any good player the same look over and over it can be really tough So um you know whatever it is a show at the level I just can’t be flat If I’m flat I there’s nothing I can do with him coming downhill So um you know just consistently trying to grow and um as you know there’s it it never is like always perfect You know sometimes you got to figure it out And um you know I think the big thing that makes it easier is when Drew is really blowing through you know those screens And you know I think more times than not he’s getting held and having to fight through and it’s the finals It’s physical basketball But I thought he did a great job of of really fighting through And if I can just hold him for a second you know give him more time to get back square it makes things easier Um so just got to do a better job of being at the level being presenting myself as much as I can because if if I’m back you know he’s he’s a really tough cover Brian Winhorse alongside Let’s start with that man and his dad and the conversations about the approach that this young man brought to the building tonight Yeah And look I know that a father is always going to believe in his son okay But he he pulled me aside before the game and he said John Halbert he said “Do not bet against my son.” Said “I’m not betting on it all I’m not betting on it all John.” He said “Do not bet against my son.” Well you told me the other night if you’ve been betting against him you’re a money loser Well you lost again tonight Um and you know his trainer Drew Hanlin just flooded his phone and his eyes the last couple days with all these stats like about look at what your record is when you score 20 points Look at what your record is when you get a certain number of shots look at what your record is when you get a certain number of assists And he spent a bunch of time watching the film And what he was watching is how they were keeping him out of the paint Coming into this game he had touched the ball 208 times He’d gotten into the paint 16 Wow 16 And so he was just like I got to figure out a way to get into the paint And repeatedly early in this game he got his feet into the paint And like a lot of times he was passing out but he just somehow had to impact the game by getting into the paint And that mindset really got them in a comfortable place because they hit all the indicators When he scores 20 they’re 8-1 right He got 20 When he scores 20 he averages 11 assists in the playoffs 11 assists 11 assists That’s what they do when the Pacers score 111 points they’re 14-0 in the playoffs 116 Check check check check check And it all comes back to him getting into that paint getting the ball up I asked Pascal Seakum earlier about do they have any magic numbers Sounds like those are them And they they hit them all As for the paint 50 points in the paint which had been a struggle for them the first two games As you and I were sitting here waiting to come on I I I said I’m just struck by the number of players on this team who have the capacity of making winning plays because they’re all stacked one on top of another It’s not a singular wasn’t a Hallebertton shot at the end It was just a a contributions from many They’re two games away from winning the title I mean what kind of belief do you feel like there is growing within this group I think they’ve always believed they haven’t lost back-to-back games since early March That’s three months they haven’t lost back-to-back games This team is every bit as good as any team that’s reached the finals in the last decade It doesn’t look like it because they were hiding because they got off to a bad start but after that they’ve been awesome And you’re talking about all those guys Let’s just go down the list Nmith he had six fouls tonight You want to know why because he was playing his backside off fighting everything Seakum totally engaged going backing down into the paint Turner he’s feeling under the weather He’s sick He had five blocks Nemhart he’s in Sha’s head in the first seven seconds of the game There’s something interesting happening with the Those guys are both from Ontario They grew up together They’re definitely under each other’s skin Lou Dord and Ben Matherin are both from Montreal It’s one thing to be from Canada These guys are from the sort of their neighborhoods grew up together and they’re going against each other You go down the list you know McConnell five steals Everybody that touched the floor and they are very comfortable at the end of a game They’re almost like a closer in baseball You hand them the ball with two three minutes left with a in a close game they’re going to finish it most of the time They are but they also clearly understand what they are up against And I’m I was just struck particularly with Matine who’s just I mean he is never going to break not character but break who he is What’s your sense of what we see on Friday that that Indiana’s not celebrating and they shouldn’t yet What do you think we see Friday It’s the biggest game in just about everybody on involved with the Thunderers careers I feel like whoever wins game four gets the trophy [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

After Tyrese Haliburton speaks with the media following the Pacers’ Game 3 win over the Thunder, Brian Windhorst sits down with Scott Van Pelt to discuss the adjustments Haliburton made to record 22 PTS, 11 REB & 9 AST.

  1. For me, there is one play that really represents this game. In the fourth quarter, Tyrese Haliburton was in the corner, shot a 3, missed it and ran into the paint, got his own rebound and ended with another possession for the Pacers and points. He was more focused on the game than any OKC player. In fact, Haliburton finished with 11 rebounds. OKC not only failed to play the way they know , but they also weren't putting in the necessary effort to win this type of game.

  2. SVP and Windy are the only real ones in the NBA Finals media coverage doing it right. Feel bad for Charles too.
    ESPN/Disney do better.

  3. I wanna watch basketball talk, but when you see Brian you know this is gonna be impossible to watch so I’ll keep scrolling. Take him off as one of the main faces talking basketball. Terrible.

  4. This same Pacers team have been underdogs throughout this same playoffs. After watching Game 3 yesterday night of this year's NBA Finals, this same Pacers team will win this year's NBA Finals if they can maintain their same defense and offense strategies they used yesterday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder team throughout the remaining games in this year's NBA Finals. Peace…

  5. Windhorst said he thanks whoever wins game four will win the championship. Pretty sure somebody with the ESPN said the same thing about game three . I wish the finals were on TNT.
