MAJOR Knicks Update – Knicks Targeting ELITE Shooter… | Knicks News

we have a massive New York Knicks update as it has been revealed by a Knicks insider that the team will be covering a major need as they are targeting a threepoint sniper amidst other players as well And we are going to discuss all of this talk about these signings talk about these guys that it is official they are pursuing and we are going to break it all down What’s up guys welcome back to Nick’s Digest It’s Chris here We’re going to jump right into things As always if you guys are part of that 72% that’s not subscribed to Nick Sigus what are you doing man we got daily videos like this We’re talking all things New York Knicks You want to stay ahead of the curve this off season make sure to subscribe to Nick Sigus and turn those post notifications on And also make sure to talk about these two guys right here because Leon Rose is getting after it The New York Knicks free agency is beginning in two weeks from now and we have already seen some of the targets get laid out who the Knicks will be pursuing in free agency Now we know there are a few different positions of need The Knicks could use a few more scoring players off that bench They might want to add some more big man depth as well On top of that we should see them really go for guys who can make plays and can really just be ball handlers outside of Jaylen Brunson So there are team needs for this Knicks squad And while people are going to float myself included the ideas of bigger time trades There’s also the world where the Knicks just beefing out that bench unit really try to make something of this bench and try to really just form up a team that is going to be similar to last year’s except with a stronger bench unit They had by far the weakest bench out of all the teams that made the conference finals this year And because of that it’s clear what they need to do They don’t need to add a bunch of star players They need to go out there and they need to strengthen that bench And there have been a few different names already floated around Now James Edwards of The Athletic mentioned that New York doesn’t have big money to go out and round out its roster with The franchise will likely have the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception to use before rounding out the roster with minimum deals Now what this means effectively is this man right here Leon Rose What he’s got to work with is a contract that can be as long as four years long And then it would be $5.7 million per year That is the most the Knicks can offer the Knicks can offer with the taxpayer mid-level exception That’s basically an amount of money that you’re given even though you’re over the salary cap 29 teams are over the salary cap Since the Knicks are over the First Apron a certain amount of money that has some impacts on all the trades and the signings you can make instead of having it be in the 112 million range it goes down to five because the amount of money that is already on their payroll for this upcoming 2026 season So they have $5.7 million per year to work with So obviously they’re not going to have the pick of the litter with free agency There’s going to be guys who yeah sure they’d want to target but they can’t For instance one that comes to mind is Nquille Alexander Walker he’s going to get paid way better than that And a team that has around that $12 million mid-level exception to work with they could have a good chance at Nquille But a team like the Knicks with 5.7 there’s a 0% chance So we look at situations like that And also I think Nquille is going to get more than 12 million per year But that’s not a conversation that we have to have on Nick’s digest because Nquille Alexander Walker is not coming to the New York Knicks However there are guys who the Knicks can hire can hire well technically hire but who they could sign to contracts that would help the team out Now Edwards highlighted some of the guys the Knicks will be looking at There are a couple names that Edwards said that he thinks the Knicks should consider and have had rumblings about considering The first one is Luke Canard The soon-to-be 29-year-old is one of the best shooters in basketball and also sneakily could be a secondary or tertiary ball handler for New York which desperately needs that skill set on its roster Over the last five seasons Canard has made at least 43% of his threes while also attempting at least four per game He’s a sniper plain and simple Last year Canard averaged nine points per game put up three rebounds and three assists in the process He got nearly a steal per game as well though his defense is not great He did shoot 48% from the field and 43% from three He shot 54% on corner threes as well which is exactly what you want to see on any team that’s contending especially that has ball dominance like Jaylen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns You got a guy who can hit those corners and he’s got a quick trigger shot He is someone who shoots the ball and Canard gets the ball up there fast The man is not wasting time He moves quickly He gets the ball He needs to hold that ball a second before he’s getting it out of his hands and into the rim And the Knicks need that They just need another guy who can be an elite shooter They didn’t have that last season They had some guys who were great shooters don’t get me wrong Male Bridges obviously had his nights So did Duce McBride Jaylen Brunson’s a phenomenal shooter but he’s doing way more than just trying to be a sharpshooter for them Of course he’s one of the best players in the NBA Doesn’t have that luxury But they did have Landry Shamut who did show some really good stretches as well Now we will talk about Landry Shamat as time goes on in the coming days and stuff in regards to what his future looks like But at the same time what we have is a situation where in regards to Luke Canard it would be the Nick the Knicks sorry giving him that full 5.7 million per year He they’d probably be over two years with a player option on year three something like that So the Knicks could bring in Canard and they could add that shooter When they had Dante Danchenzo things ran more fluidly Now Canard is not as good as D Venenzo He’s not the defender D.Vo is He’s not the rebounder D.VO is but he is an elite three-point shooter The Knicks need one of those Canard does that He’s also got very sneakily good passing as well So there’s some stuff that we like to see As two Knicks fans here mentioned Luke Canard has the passing five assists per 75 possessions each of the last two seasons and elite shooting ability that the Knicks need can play on ball and create Keeps the rock moving in the half Courtney’s a quick decision maker and as AOPNBA said good movement shooter too One of 37 players with 75 plus catch and shoot three-point attempts while moving either left or right over the last five seasons And he has shot 39.7% on those over that span the fifth highest of that group Canard is one of the best shooters in basketball And the Knicks would add a guy on their bench who can give them points can dribble the ball can set people up a little bit but more than anything is there to hit those threes Now the Knicks would still need to find another playmaker on this roster and they’d have to look at the veteran minimum or they can go the route of Tyler Kick which could also solve that problem Kick is a phenomenal passer He’s a great playmaker and he would probably work well with Canard with Canard moving fast Kick would be able to set him up We saw Tyler Kohik work well with Landry Shamut as well So we’ve seen Kick already be able to set up a guy like Shamid who’s a similar player to Luke Canard Shoots similarly gets it up very quick moves off ball very well but he’s not the shooter that Canard is Now again Sham’s a good shooter I’m not saying he isn’t Shaman’s a better defender but when it comes to pure shooting I do think that the Knicks will start to use Kolick more especially if they got a guy like Canard because then you have a playmaker for the cheap on your roster and Kick who you really get to see what he could be the man has really good potential to be a great player in the NBA So the Knicks have a chance to work with Tyler Kolick here You can then focus on something else as well You have another ball handler and Kick also which is huge I think you use Tyler Kolick and you go get a guy like a Luke Canard That is what I would do with that mid-level exception if you ask me personally Canard has hit 46.2% of his threes for the Grizzlies in his career He’s played his last three seasons with Memphis and he has been phenomenal Again 46% from three is awesome And he’s taking a good amount of attempts He was taking five threes per game in that span as well He’s also shot 47% of his threes when playing in MSG So he could shoot under the bright lights of MSG in the small eight game sample size And also when you look at guys who have shot over over 300 threes over the last couple of seasons what we’ve seen is Luke Canard be the best shooter in that span shooting 46% from three of all guys who average 15 plus minutes per game and have taken over 300 threes over the last 5 years So what we have seen is Luke Canard absolutely drain threes and show a lot for his teams that he has played for When you look at guys on this list you see Grayson Allen Keon Ellis Ty Jerome AJ Green Sam Hazard Joe Harris Norman Pal KD Malcolm Brogden All guys who are known as snipers and Canard is known as one of the best shooters in basketball I think this is a perfect move for the New York Knicks and I would love to see them go out there and do this Now on top of that we also do have some other updates in regards to players as well Now Edward said that it’s the it’s likely the Knicks taxpayer mid-level exception might not be enough to get Canard It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he was offered more than $5.7 million annually from another team However he is a CIA client so maybe New York has its CIA army to work some magic That is something that is very possible here that the Knicks can use the Leon Rose connection of it all to fix this not even fix this issue to sort of get Canard on a deal and then work out something else in the process so you can ensure Canard’s going to get what he’s worth and on top of that you bring in another CIA guy who the Knicks can work with closely and I think it’s a home run deal and I believe in Leon Rose to get something like this done Now on top of this another name that James Edwards mentioned or three names that he mentioned were Spencer Denwy Trey Lyles and Al Horford All will be able or all will be signing for around that mid-level exception Now real quick just to get out of the way I think Spencer Denwy’s going to resign with the Dallas Mavericks And there’s also a bunch of stuff about Al Horford So I’m probably going to do another video involving Horford and someone else as well I’m not going to make you guys sit through eight minutes of just Al Horford That’s that’s not good enough content for you guys I’m not dropping just that There is another name I’m going to pair with Al Horford So we’ll talk about that when we talk about that It’s not happening tomorrow Actually it might happen tomorrow Probably not I’ll do it at some point Not the point The point is Trey Lyles is someone who the Knicks could also target if they want to look to a bit of a bigger guy Not exactly a center true power forward can shoot the three ball gives you what you need and also will be able to sign on that taxpayer mid-level exception He averaged 6.5 points per game and 4.6 rebounds last year with an assist as well Not a great defender could shoot the ball at a decent clip specifically from the corner shooting around 38% from three Also shot 42% from the field Gives you some scoring gives you a guy off the bench you could play as a power forward would replace Precious Achua Precious Achua and Precious is probably leaving Probably getting more than the mid-level exception I’d say probably around six seven million per per year over like two years something like that I don’t think Achua is resigning So I think we do have a great situation here that you could get Trey Lyles I don’t love the idea of Trey Lyles if I’m being honest He’s not my favorite prospect to go get but if there’s not much to do you should use that mid-level exception on someone and maybe Lyles would figure it out Funny enough Phil Jackson was to draft Trey Ly with the fourth overall pick when the Knicks has picked Porzingis but you know Phil Jackson’s an idiot So what are you going to do he wasn’t an idiot when he came to coaching just as a president of basketball operations I should say Obviously Phil is the best coach second best coach of all time outside of Greg Papovich But I imagine someone will disagree with me in the comments there for one reason or another So I’ll try to respond I try to get to as many comments as possible So leave a comment down below on what you think about all this Should they go for Canard should Trey Lyles be a viable backup option if they can’t get Canard should they not go for Canard at all or Trey Lyles let me know what you think in the comments down below Like this video subscribe turn on post notifications Have a great day guys And go next

  1. How about this..

Trade Mitch and McCuller JR to lakers for
Dalton Knecht, Jarred Vanderbilt and a 2nd Rd pick.

Then signs Moses brown types as big man depth(if the trust Huckporti)

  2. Robinson is good , but we have Kat, Hujporti , and coukd have Brown. Could we trade Robinson and use his salary to meet another need ?

  3. I would trade Josh Hart for Dyson Daniel's of the Hawks Daniel's led the league in steals and can shoot the 3 him with Og can shut down shay and D Williams of okc

  4. I dont care what anyone says if Kolek, Dadiet and Huk got consistent minutes ALL YEAR nobody would still be saying we need a bench. We can add some vets to those 3 plus Duece and CALL UP MOSES BROWN WE WOULD HAVE THE BEST BENCH IN THE LEAGUE!

  5. The Mitch disrespect is crazy! Stop trying to trade the big man! Mitchs stays!!!! Trading him to the lakers& there in the finals with Mitchs defensive presence, rebounding & mobility matched up with Lebrons I.Q as well as Luka & would be dangerous. Mitch us nit the problem

  6. What’s the deal with horford he’d be the perfect vet and backup big on the bench for us. Not to mention he can spread the floor nicely

  7. This has always been the problem in New York. We never build our youngins. If the Knicks let Kolek run the second unit, with Deuce, Shamet, Mcullar Jr, and Huk/Moses

  8. To bring in someone who is essentially just a shooter. That's all. We need 3 and D guys off the bench . Having this team become worse on the defensive end next year
isn't Imo to make the Knicks better.

  9. So is it a way we can do a deal for jjj and luke kennard for Mitch and Mikal. Of course it’s going be other thanks involved but I’ll be ok with this trade

  10. if SHAMPAYNE won't be back next season then we should get this Kennard guy suit up. And we don't have to worry about adding up impact players coz we don't have Thibs anymore! Kolek , Dadiet , Huck can all play now with real minutes

  11. James L. Edwards is looking at things from a financial standpoint and just throwing out any name to fit the budget. The only name worth mentioning was Al Horford who is a pros pro and a mentor. You don't get Luke Kennard when you have Landry Shamet. Kennard is slow and does not play defense. Shamet shoots just as good as Kennard and is a way better defender. Trey Lyles is does not move the needle. You might as well give those minutes to Dadiet and develop him. Also, the team will have more than the MLE because of the players who won't be back. Tucker, Payne, Precious, Watson and possible Wright. McCullar JR and Beauchamp could be brought back as two way players. The main players on this team are all in their prime we need to incorporate more youth. We have Dadiet, Hukporti and Kolek and that's a start but we need to add more. Kolek though is an excellent passer is small and a bad defender. We already have a small guard in Brunson who is a bad defender. There are a lot of good young NBA players who just need an opportunity to play. One thing that might help is better scouting of young players in the early rounds. We have done good in the 2nd rounds but the first rounds not so much.

  12. Can you do a video about the internal New York option. Tyler Kolec, Tj Warren , Moses Brown, Ariel Huckporti ,Pacome Dadiet, Kevin Mcullar Jr. these guys can play. I don’t see why they didn’t play last year

  13. I agree mitch and kevin mccullar trade for vanderbilt and sign moses brown back up of hukforti and towns lets go Knicks!!!!!👍👍👍👍

  14. Pick up and sign moses brown trade mitch for vanderbilt add powerforward and center defense and rebound needs!!!of the new york knicks!!!

  15. Indiana Pacers Tyrese Pascal Myles Aaron Andrew all 5 can hit from 3. And they're tall at Center n Powerforward. The Knicks starting 5 Robinson can't stretch the floor or Heart can't stretch the floor. You need a powerforward who can shoot!!! We need a real point guard off the bench when Bruson is resting. We need a tall Wing off the bench TJ Warren or someone like him. And he'll no trading Towns for KD Durant's to old but I love KD game. I think he can help us get that ring n our cast can help KD get another ring.

  16. I said all along the '24/'25 roster was incomplete. A dead eye shooter and competent ball handler to give JB a blow.

  17. I’d take Achiua over Lyles. But Kenard over both, because of his shooting. Every championship team needs a sniper.

  18. I would rather Shamet over Kennard. Luke is a pure shooter but not a great defender. Shamet is an above average shooter who is a really good defender. Shamet I think would be cheaper.
