this is the absolute worstc case scenario for the Toronto Raptors as this team has been in pursuit of literally any big name that has touched the open market that has been hinted at being available in the off season but we know how difficult it is to land a superstar player to land one of these big names is the entire league is after these types of guys and we’ve gotten some updates we’ve gotten some reports in regards to what the Raptors plans would be if they don’t end up landing one of these big fish one of these big names out there this off season and it is not good i know Raptors fans are frustrated i see it on Twitter i see it different places again we’re back on Twitter and Raptors Digest so make sure to check that out check out X but basically everyone’s frustrated about all the discourse everything that’s going on with all of our players being dangled in these different discussions and I’ve been outspoken i think this team should keep RJ Barrett and starting the movement on keeping RJ Barrett over the course of this off season moving into next year to see what we have in this group rather than facilitating some type of salary dump or doing some idiotic trade that you know helps our cap situation but really doesn’t help the team moving forward in a season where we are expected to win now try to take that step up in a wide open Eastern Conference and there have been some not great developments in terms of uh how things are going to look for this team moving forward if we don’t end up landing one of these star names So we’ll break down what these reports are saying and what it means to the Toronto Raptors moving forward because frankly it uh it has me pretty fired up so what’s going on with this basically news has come out from Jake Fischer that sources say the Raptors would be willing to part ways with either RJ Barrett and Emanuel Quickley for a significant roster upgrade several league figures with the knowledge of the Raptors thinking have likewise asserted that they could show a willingness to move on from center Yaka Purle as well provided that the trade in question um ends up bringing back Kevin Durant so Purle will essentially only be thrown out there in these trade discussions if uh you know KD is back out there in the mix but other than that RJ Barrett and Emanuel Clickler are essentially being thrown up there on the trade market now the Raptors do have an interesting cap situation we are a team that didn’t make the playoffs and we have an very expensive roster going into next year brandon Ingram Emanuel Quickley and you can see the 2025 2026 season halfway down this list scotty Barnes price ends up increasing significantly now we can still go into next season draft the number nine overall selection and be under the luxury tax so things can be fine out there on that front we aren’t you know an over the tax team we aren’t going to be penalized we aren’t going to be doing this if we keep the roster as is but Bose Jerry definitely wants to improve the roster of the season and wants to make things a little bit more flexible capwise moving forward into the future especially where the Raptors weren’t competitive and that’s kind of the discussions the discourse in terms of what’s popped off behind this whole you know narrative about trading RJ Barrett trading IQ trading these types of guys and there is a you know essentially the odds in terms of where RJ Barrett could land next year and they aren’t good they aren’t good in terms of destinations in terms of making moves actually happen the Portland Trailblazers the Washington Wizards the Brooklyn Nets the Phoenix Suns and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the favorites they’re out there at this point now the Nets and the Suns could be brought up here as essentially third teams out there in a Kevin Durant trade because we know I’ve covered it in a multiple videos already today or the past couple days or the past week about how the Raptors are trying to land Kevin Durant and while I think that is a significant risk while I think that could really have an effect out there on the future of the Toronto Raptors it would help our cap situation dealing away RJ and pieces you know for a KD out there in the future more flexibility and stuff and you get a season of one of the best players of all time so it’s uh you know it’s a risk he could get hurt he could not want to play here he could do all that type of stuff and we’d be bad you know we we were we’re a team that didn’t make the playoffs are we Kevin Durant away from contention that’s all questions that seriously should be brought up but there’s at least an upside there’s something you can look at Messiah and be like I respect the hustle i respect the you know the coahones to take a big swing like that you know the big fish talk it’s you know at least something to get excited about as a fan base if you’re making these moves if you’re making these big types of trades but if we make a move if Messiah Jury comes out here to fix our cap situation we don’t want to extend Yakapro we don’t want to extend RJ Barrett and we make the decision to just dump him to a team like the Washington Wizards and get back what pieces like Marcus Smart you know those mock trades that we were seeing out there at the beginning of the summer you know the Blazers just essentially give them salary and then not really take back any value not really take back any pieces that can improve this team in the short term can improve the team in the long like it doesn’t make any sense it doesn’t make any sense of the Toronto Raptors to do one of these types of deals and you know again if it’s a third team we get a big name we get a big fish we get whatever it is you know there’s there’s pieces there’s ways for this to make sense but I don’t know i I didn’t cover this because literally the Toronto Raptors on the other end of this right is uh they’re linked to pretty well every name across the NBA it’s getting meme’d to death it’s getting joked to death and it’s because Messiah Jerry’s willing to be you know in the calls he does his due diligence out there on all this like it’s been widely talked about it’s widely reported how literally any name comes out there on the trade market Messiah Jerry’s always the one calling he’s always asking about these situations and you never know which deals he’s going to cash in on that’s why there’s so many rumors regarding this Toronto Raptor team we’re on the other end of it here right now with the the Toronto Raptors and like you look at the Portland Trailblazers roster in terms of the players like you win now guys out there on that team you know they’re not going to give up Kamura they’re they’re not going to give up guys like Jeremy Grant they’re not going to well maybe Jeremy Grant out there in a trade but he doesn’t make sense given the current construction of this Raptors team unless Messiah Jerry’s back being enamored with that you know 69 height size of uh players that are 3 and D guys that can come out there in the mix it’s just not the type of uh team that it makes sense unless that deal is going to be a salary dump and RJ Barrett’s just too good for one of these moves to look like that like 21 points per game six rebounds five assists 35% from the three-point line 40% out there on corner threes at just 25 years old you know he’s our most consistent scorer he was an absolute just he he really like it’s underrated the impact that he had on this Raptors team last season it has it can’t be understated how during the turmoil the ups and downs the injuries everything that happened RJ Barrett was fairly consistent he improved as a shooter and is just a guy that like you want to root for and if we are just salary dumping him when he is on one of the more reasonable contracts out here on this team like he’s making you know we look at the money situation right 27 million next season and 203 uh 29 million in 2026 27 like that’s good value man that’s good value for 216 and five I know the defense you know it’s hot and cold with the intensity RJ Barrett plays with and you know the matchups and stuff like that but that is good value for a player of that caliber at that age and you know a guy that wants to be or he’s a hometown kid that has to be factored into the consideration it has to be you know the fan base actually liking the guy it has to be brought up in this situation if it’s going to be like a salary dump situation so there’s that and then the other guy which people are more willing to deal away and you know talk about in these things cuz it’s uh what’s called Emanuel Quickley who last season 17 points per game 3.5 rebounds six assists shot 38% of the three-point line 38% of corner threes 26 years old himself and dealt with a ton of injuries last year i think the willingness to deal away Emanuel quickly right now is the fact that hey he didn’t have a great season last year injuries all that played a significant factor we didn’t get to see what IQ could really look like but he’s dealt with that stuff since joining the Toronto Raptors so there comes a point where it’s like okay he’s just injury prone he’s not this but giving up on these guys and I’m not saying don’t trade away some of these players they’re not guys that should be you know held on at all costs right the Nicolola Joices of the world the Shay Gilis Alexanders of the world i would have said Luca Doners of the world but even he was trade up right like if the right package comes along you make the deal go down usually that’s for a star player when the significant upgrades but if this is just for a salary dump right like for a crazy significant upgrade I’m not riding but if this is for a salary dump which kind of the buzz all the stuff that’s come out even the trade deadline last season I’m not for that i am adamantly against those types of discussions and I’m standing on that i don’t want one of these moves to happen so it’s I’d much rather the Raptors even if it affects our flexibility even if it affects our ability to do whatever you know Messiah and make moves out there in the future i’ll be frustrated i’ll be frustrated while that move happens and then maybe Messiah turns in that flexibility to something great and then I’ll eat my words and I’ll say whatever but if we make one of these moves and just to do it for salary okay I I’d be very frustrated but let me know what you guys think about all this in the comment section down below you guys the best make this far subscribe to the channel if you guys haven’t already anyways I’m signing out cheers

  1. Masai crippled this teams future when he decided to give that bum Barnes a max contract to score 19 ppg and shoot 25% from 3.

  2. What I’m taking from this is if RJ gets moved its in a 3 team trade. I dont think we dump him, we could easily duck the cap by dumping ochai or something instead

  3. People can guess all they want to , but none of us know what the Raptors are going to do. When you play poker, do you show everyone your hand before you make a bet? The Raptors offered RJ in the Ingram trade, Ochai is probably getting traded and maybe Jakob. It is best to trade them while their value is high. The roster is a numbers game . They can only keep so many players and there is a CBA . What is more important , trying to win or keeping a Canadian on the roster?

  4. You probably said the same thing about Kawhi Leonard too, and then celebrated a championship like you knew the whole time

  5. It's more than trading for KD, in raptors case they don't want to pay max deals to Ingram, RJ, Quickley, AND Scottie. And Poeltl is on a contract year he wants 30 Million dollars a year. Can you see now why raptors would be okay with this? If theyre gonna pay so much they want their best chance to actually win, and they're okay with KD as a rental because they clear 55 million off their books as their worst case scenario, but to them that's actually freedom from the second apron for years and a lot of money saved for Toronto ownership. And also because KD is very marketable and trading for him would make Toronto a lot of money from merchandise and ticket sales.

  6. These trades make no sense if the Trailblazers want RJ I want Clingan or I hang up the phone. If they want to get off the bad contract in Jermiah Grant for like Poetl and RJ I want the 11th pick in 2025 Clingan and maybe more draft compensation as that Grant signing is a bad long term contract. Raptors save money in this deal and could get two good player out of the draft, but Grants contract is bad.

As for KD Toronto must be a facilitator Houston might want him but Phoenix does not want what they have or the new CBA rules are making it hard for a trade. The Raptor send Poetl, and RJ to the Suns with the 9th and Houston sends the 10th and Jabari Smith, you only losing one draft position and Raptor maybe have to take Van Fleet but I think his 3rd year is not guaranteed you could just release him and create mega cap space then a guy like Naz Reid starts to come into focus in free agency, a guy like Cam Whitmore did not really play in the playoffs so they might move on from him. You can see the framework for a deal. KD makes sense in Houston now they seem like they could be entering a championship window. Raptors and Houston might do a easier deal if the Raptors deal with Phoneix with their restrictions in the new CBA

  7. Out of the starting five.. RJ is the odd man out. Quickley can spread the floor, Poeltl is our only reliable/best center and no way we are trading BI or Barnes at this point. If RJ was a more reliable floor spacer and defender we could keep him.. but RJ isn't and he operates very much the same area of BI and Scottie. Raps need to dangle RJ and possibly a future pick and/or another player to help balance our team with a 3 & D player(hopefully a guard that can defend the POA) or another Center that can spread the floor or is a rim protector..

  8. I don’t see KD trade happening. If Suns have to move him at a discount without a draft haul – why wouldn’t Phoenix just hold on to him.

If the deal went thru – let’s just say for IQ and Jak. The starting lineup is KD, Scottie; BI RJ and Mogbo whom is a 3 and D at best not a big.

I dunno if that many wings that need the ball makes much sense. Let alone that BI and KD play largely identically – just KD is better at it thus far.

This is not worth all the time we are giving it. Also I repeat Jake Fischer is an idiot.

  9. Man your bias towards RJ is wild. RJ requires a ton of usage to be effective. With IQ BI and Scottie making more than RJ he’s getting overpaid to be a 4th option that needs the ball.

His stats may have been better last year but it wasn’t moving the needle for the team. And with IQ out for most of the season and Scottie being out for periods in the season RJ was able to get more of that usage.

In reality he’s not a good fit in a healthy raptors team in my opinion.

  10. @benrogers the issue you have is that you are more of an instant gratification type of person and short term thinker. you forget the lessons of the past in kicking the can down the road in what happened with siakam and fred.

so if masai took your line of thinking and he lost RJ for nothing or got two 2nds for him as an expiring, would you be more happy with that result in a year? RJ value is likely the highest its gonna be so it makes sense if luxury tax pressure is coming from rogers, masai will trade RJ for max value now. because if he fumbles the ball a 3rd time with another player, then masai wont get a new contract in summer of 2026.

in terms of your washington trade masai wont take marcus smart and two 2nds for RJ. if RJ is going ti wizards, they are giving the raptors the 6th pick and possibly the 18th pick as well depending on the salary filler they get.

the simple reality is this, there are 3 players up for extension in RJ, Ochai and Jakob Poeltl. raptors can only pay 1 because rogers wont pay the luxury tax.

so if masai wants to keep RJ, then its ochai and IQ that are traded. or IQ and Jakob Poeltl that are traded.

its a binary decision. get more now by making moves, or get less or nothing in a year if they are too expensive, the player gets injured, or he has a bad season. the luxury tax line rogers wont pay is very clear. there is no going over the luxury tax even if KD or Giannis is on the team until they get to conference finals at least first.

  11. Its about fit with RJ… will be taking the shots RJ was last year. So where is RJ? on the bench?.. possible.. but you see how the fit is more the issue.

  12. I hope if barrett goes its portland i am a portland fan as well or memphis. I root for the canadian players i think rj and shaedon would be dope or edey and barrett. Only teams i wouldnt be mad at him going

  13. ngl i love rj so much but hes just a ball dominant player so every player we could possibly trade for would take away from him. honestly wouldnt see a fit for him outisde of maybe the 6th man but hed have to run the 2nd unit completely. im personally on the side of running out this core for at least one year since we've never seen what it looks like with BI but there's some trades that will involve RJ that we just can't turn down if we are biased towards the team as a whole rather than each player and that's just the harsh reality. whatever happens man, its gonna be in Masai we trust and its always go raps

  14. Some of you just can’t accept that RJ isn’t as good as you think he is, and he doesn’t fit. The front office knows more than you. RJ is great but he’s a high usage, low efficiency guy who is bad on defence. You’re obsessed with your Canadian born players so much that you can’t see that. RJ is gone, the writing is on the wall.

  15. I'm all for getting rid of Quickley, but certainly not RJ or Jakob! KD is not worth it either way. He is a toxic asset,.

  16. Raptors are not dumping any of the starting 5 guys, get with it. If they make a major trade fine, for a better player.
Raptors are searching for the one piece that makes them competitive for the East title

  17. I like RJ but this team is gonna get expensive quick and he has an easy contract to move in exchange for good value. Plus fit wise with BI on the team now it just makes the most sense to move RJ which hurts but that’s business.

  18. RJ kept the team winning when everyone else sat out. I like KD but find RJ more exciting to watch. He can run and defend without pulling a tendon. Also ❤️🇨🇦
