day ago uh apparently the athletic is uh reporting that if Kevin Durant has his way he wants to be a spur we’re going to react to that also how does that Desmond Bane Memphis Orlando deal impact the Spurs chase for Kevin Durant could be some sort of ripple effect and then we’re going to play a game of buy and sell with our guest let’s go and bring him on right now he is Rudy Capos he is back sounded good that doesn’t sound like a fun Father’s Day for you uh I was there as the muscle and the money that was it so yeah as long as the family had fun you were being a dad i guess you were being a dad on Father’s Day but hey Rudy thanks for coming out uh I’m glad you your daughter and your wife were able to come out there uh I think you you stayed for one panel no you didn’t no I met you at the end that’s right yeah yeah you’re all right well actually I was there for most of the uh the Monsters panel the Rob Zombies that’s right was there for most of that one which is kind of interesting because I have not seen that uh movie or show Rob Zombie version so I need to go back and see it that’s pretty interesting yeah exactly yeah for those of y’all who missed it I was the MC/host of the Big Texas Terracon i had a lot of bucket items checked off my list like sitting next to freaking Danny Tjo Machete himself so yeah but you know let’s go to go stop nerding out right now i’m still living in that you know what it is really for me it’s like I come off a high and then ah Pat reality you know like that yeah exactly all right everybody why is Rudy here we’re going to be discussing the recent Kevin Durant uh rumor Spurs via the Athletic they’re going to give it to the the Desmond Bane Orlando Magic uh deal in just a few seconds but I mean right before we hit the record button The Athletic put out a uh pretty big report i already have it here i’ll read it for everybody here this is again this is from the Athletic and I quote “But amid their most recent round of talks with Phoenix the Timberwolves were made aware that he he Kevin Durant prefers to play elsewhere specifically league sources say the Spurs.” So again another uh I guess can of gas on that fire uh again you know that was a raging inferno at this point it just seems like every day it’s another report that Kevin Durant is San Antonio bound now we got this one from the Athletic do you put a lot of stock into that i I do I I I think the whole league source thing saying that he wants to play for the Spurs is more of Kevin Durant’s camp than it is you know actual uh people in the league i think it’s still down to three teams i mean you were talking about the Spurs the Rockets and what was Miami but I think Miami is all out on the Kevin Durant I think right uh so sweep stakes i think right now it’s going to be between Houston and San Antonio both teams if you’re looking at it Jeff Houston has the most to offer more than the Spurs do so it’s going to be interesting it’s going to come down to probably the 11th hour with the uh NBA draft on the 25th we’re getting right down to the nitty-gritty here so we should hear something very very soon but again I I think the I think it’s preferred destination of the Spurs but you got to keep in mind Phoenix is going to do what’s best for Phoenix they’re not going to just take any deal and you know put them uh you know in a dark path you know along a rebuild they’re going to take the best deal for them and who knows another team may emerge uh one that we might be talking about here just in a little bit yeah yeah you know uh again you know as a matter of fact but this was not on the rundown again this just happened right before we hit record button and we saw this report and my thing my first reaction was posturing i don’t know why that just popped in my head like it’s just another posturing just another you know hey I see your stack of chips i’m going to raise it this much to the Phoenix Suns uh because one um do the do the Phoenix Suns want to send a Durant to a team that’s on the rise level in the the in the conference and then two again the Spurs do have the most to offer as far as draft capital they’re a little light with players but they’re heavy heavy heavy with draft capital i’m still thinking that Houston is still the better place because of the players and I go back to Devin Booker are you really going to tell Devin Booker your franchise player hey you’re entering your prime years or you’re just starting it we’re going to go through a rebuild how’s that for you it just feels like there’s that aspect of it that just can’t I can’t escape it you know you’re going to tell Booker we’re going to go on the tanker with this and bring in again no knock on the Spurs core uh young core but they’re not as good as the Rockets core uh I think maybe what maybe was stopping Houston if they’re involved at all is maybe maybe Phoenix just wants a little bit more than what Houston is willing to give up because they had a great season they didn’t have a good playoff run but maybe they feel they’re on the brink your thoughts so as far as Houston goes Houston’s biggest thing was they needed a scorer they they did they lacked in the scoring uh column and Kevin Durant pretty much checks off that entire box and you’re looking at at a Houston team that can definitely still be in the top four in the league next year even if they trade for Kevin and give up some of their pieces but you know what first things first you brought up Deon Booker you’re right i mean you got to keep a competitive team around Devin Booker or he’s going to be wanting out of Phoenix and then that’s a whole another you know chat to have because now you’re just in a complete rebuild phoenix still has the opportunity to come out as winners regardless if they trade Kevin Durant to San Antonio to Houston or wherever they can easily come out on top with this now as far as players are going if you’re looking at the Houston Rockets I mean chances are they’re probably going to have to maybe part with Fred Van Fleet as part of this deal uh but again you know guys like Jabari Smith uh I don’t know if they would take on Jeff Green right now but Jabari Smith is probably one guy that you’re going to be looking at going to Phoenix along with some draft picks but it’s right you’re right the Spurs have the most draft picks not the most appealing players for Phoenix but Houston has the players that’ll work for Phoenix they just don’t have the draft capital to make it happen so at the end of the day Phoenix is going to do what Phoenix is going to do and you know what even reports have come out earlier the fact that Phoenix if they don’t get what they want they’re not they’re not gonna you know they’re gonna just basically keep Kevin Durant and I guess if he doesn’t play he doesn’t play he sits out but the biggest report you saw and you might want to mention in a little bit is the fact that reports are saying they want number two or Steph Castle and also they were mentioning about Jeremy Sohan so you can tell Phoenix doesn’t want to go into a complete rebuild they’re satisfied IED with some of the trade packages it’s just not enough for Kevin Durant i don’t blame Phoenix you don’t want to get screwed at the end of the day yeah yeah they’re definitely trying to get a dollar for dollar match here in a trade but that usually doesn’t happen you don’t get dollar for dollar the best you can get is maybe 60 or 60 cents on the dollar i mean really really good at it unless you’re Sam Prey then you just get max return but nevertheless I I you know it just to me I’m at the point now it’s not just where there’s smoke there’s fire it’s where there’s smoke it’s a raging freaking inferno at this for me and it just seems to me like they’re these two teams kevin Durant as well his camp they’re going to try to get everything done to get to San Antonio it’s nothing based on anybody would have told me i’m just saying if you’re reading the tea leaves it just feels that let’s just face it this probably was Kevin Durant’s team that leaked this to the athletic you know so yeah it’s what it was and you read that they’re you they’re trying to force a trade to where he wants to go obviously they’re going to do the best for him that’s their client he’s their guy i get that uh you would be a bad agent or a camp if you weren’t trying to do what’s best for your client um it just feels I get a a vibe of the Dear Fox you know leadup to the trade it was Yeah reports are coming out his preferred destination is San Antonio and then oh lo and behold it happens it feels the same kind of vibe rudy your thoughts it does but I think what I mentioned to you ahead of time actually before we started recording was with the Darren Fox fiasco it was in talks like in the summer before the season even started that uh you know Derek Gervin on sweep the league made it known that Darren Fox was going to be a spur it was going to happen whether it be at trade deadline or through via free agency or sometime it was going to happen and that was kind of already been in talks like I said previous summer so they got it all the way through the Detroit deadline they were able to get uh deal worked in but you got to also remember this is that with the Fox if it’s going to be anything with the Kevin Durant type of move Jeff there’s got to be a there’s got to be a factor in it and that factor is there’s got to be a third team and that’s where I think this is holding it up because it’s the Spurs it’s the Suns i think there’s an agreement there but there’s got to be a third team because Phoenix isn’t quite getting what they want in return add a third team in there then that’s where I think the deal gets done so as long as it’s just a two team type of deal I don’t think it gets done as easy as it would be for a third team to come in yeah and again shades of the Aaron Fox deal what was it it was going to be San Antonio but a third team on was it the Bulls i think the Bulls sent Lavine to Sacramento sacramento they were satisfied with getting us an all-star player in their uniform and then away we go it it has a lot of vibes of that we’ll see what happens but ultimately yeah again another report you know look at the Vegas odds and they still got the Spurs way up there with some of the best odds at landing Phoenix we all know what Vegas has a crystal ball probably know is working for there so we know that and man at the end of the day like if for example we finish the show you go to bed I go to bed and I wake up in the morning overnight I’m not going to be surprised i wouldn’t I’ll be okay well you know it was all writings were on the wall that this was going to happen but I think I’ll be more shocked if the Spurs did relent and give up either Castle or the number two pick that and then I’d be like Lord for I wouldn’t understand that i really would thinking all right all right well there is your quick update regarding the Spurs Kevin Durant rumors we’re not done talking about Kevin Durant and like they go into the Spurs at this point i mean seriously I mean you might as well put him in a Spurs uniform right now at this point uh the Desmond Bane trade to Orlando yeah the Memphis Magic deal does that have any implications for the Spurs should they still continue their pursuit Sweep the League by the way Rudy Phoenix rejected a deal with you involved in the trade package i did hear about that um I actually full disclosure uh we’re going to Phoenix at the end of the month so I’m going to go house shopping and see how the area is what is happen it’s not the deal’s not done yet but I mean it’s it’s kind of 50/50 still they didn’t want to throw in those pillows uh you know that you got at the big Texas terracon there well I asked for you and pledge as part of the deal they didn’t they didn’t take it they said “No it’s still not good enough.” All right what are we talking about we’re talking about Kevin Durant yes it’s the topic of the summer right now offseason for the silver and black and we had a recent pretty eyepopping deal that just happened for those who know I think y’all know by now Memphis and Orlando they did a deal desmond Bane goes to Orlando and Orlando sends a hall back what is it really like how many unprotected draft picks i mean seriously four unprotected draft picks and that was pretty much the um well the I guess the icing on the cake for the deal which was just incredible for a guy who’s good but he he’s a borderline allstar but I mean I don’t know he’s worthy of four freaking unprotected first round picks and a pick swap yeah so there’s that rudy we saw what the hall was for Desmond Bane does that up the sticker price for Phoenix and then we got San Antonio like “Hey well look what Bane got for the from the Magic you’re gonna have to pony up.” How do you how do you think that’s going to impact the Spurs chase for Kevin Durant if they are involved well I think at initially when I heard the deal I thought man this is going to make Kevin Durant’s price go up a little bit but after kind of sitting on it and not reacting right away to it I actually don’t think it affects it at I mean you’re talking about Desmond Bane who’s a 26-y old player 19 points six boards five assists you know I think a steal almost a steal and a half a game last season uh he shot what 48 39 and 89 I believe from uh the field the free throw line three-point range so I think four first rounders is a lot but Orlando basically gave up to get a player that they need right now in his prime or already going into his prime at 26 so he fits the he fits everything they’ve got they don’t He need They need a score they need a shooter they were the worst three-point shooting team last year desmond Bane checks off a whole lot now the hall for it yeah I understand but Desmond Bane’s 26 kevin Durant is what 36 37 37 so yeah so I mean turn 37 right now yeah so you’re you’re gonna get Desmond Bane for the long haul put it that way so it’s worth the first four the four first round picks i’m protected i totally totally get that what does that do on the other side it actually puts a little thought on the Spurs fans if you’re you’re listening out there keep this in mind what Memphis did in getting four first round picks it kind of opens the door for them on the possibility of contacting Phoenix for possibly KD now why you’ve got four picks including your own so you you’re adding draft capital something that Phoenix wants not only that you know Jeff something Phoenix doesn’t have is a big man if I’m not mistaken Memphis has a big man in Jiren Jackson Jr who could easily go back and return so Memphis is kind of setting themselves up to throw their name into not just the Kevin Durant sweep stakes could be for the Giannis sweep stakes could be for everything but overall it doesn’t affect KD to San Antonio KD anywhere i think it’s just you’re getting Desmond Bane in his going into his prime or in his prime for first round picks in Orlando’s mind hey man they’re they’re getting the player they could have gotten the draft they don’t have to wait for someone uh to develop you know through the draft yeah how is this for a offer to Phoenix so let’s just put our GM hats okay you think they would like the number 14 pick this year cody Johnson Harrison Barn and Jeremy Sohan and a future firstrounder you think that is good enough or is that why does it feel a little too steep though why does it feel a little steep well you pretty much you pretty much you know I guess give away your entire bench i mean if you’re thinking about it you’re giving away your entire bench you would pretty much leave Deon Vel as your sixman off the bench along with Julian Shampagne outside of that Blake Wesley I mean you’re going to have to really put some pieces together uh with that team right there honestly I think that would do good that would be good for Phoenix i really do but I think they’re really going to hold out to the very end to try to get probably Castle or number two um if there’s a third team don’t be surprised if number two is involved somewhere with that third team so I think that gets it done for Phoenix at at the 11th hour but for right now I I think they just kind of hold off on that right now sohan’s the key in that trade i think they want Jeremy Sohan but I really feel like 14 isn’t enough for them you know it’s hard for me to give up that number two pick because you will like it’ll likely be Harper and you weigh the two players as you know you go with the young guy not the guy that’s on his way out you go with the guy with his potential just starting and the potential is seen to be very high even surpassing Steph Castle after one one year and getting comparisons to Cunningham out of Detroit yep so you hear that I’m like man do you really want to give up that possible allar for an established all-star a Hall of Fame player but who’s already on his way out now reports are coming out Rudy that he would reportedly sign a long-term deal with the San Antonio and other teams but what is a but what is a long-term deal what two years three years so you know versus a Harper who is going to have the rookie contract and then some you’re talking if I’m not mistaken they were talking a three-year extension upwards of like $180 million or something like that where it would be like $60 million a year close to it for Kevin Durant so again you know you’re seeing LeBron play till the age of 40 but you’ve also seen the steady decline of LeBron James at 40 not saying Kevin Durant slowing down i think Kevin Durant’s playing at a very high level even for his age he’s playing in my opinion better than what LeBron was you know is playing at right now so I I’m okay with with it and I understand getting Kevin Durant i mean to be honest they’re a playoff team at least minimum playing team now more than likely a playoff team already adding Kevin Durant kind of solidifies it but let me let me throw a little bit of a wrench in the armor here you say you wouldn’t give up number two for Kevin Durant well the guy that we just mentioned a minute ago would you or Spurs fans consider trading number two for Jiren Jackson Jr paired up next to WBY now you’re getting the young player defensive player of the year is a stretch big man and you don’t you don’t have to worry about that backcourt situation you have Fox you’ll have Passel Barnes or Vel whoever you want you’ll have Jiren Jackson Jr and Victor Winmanyama what What how would that feel and all he really gives up is number two and then maybe a couple of guys for the contract i like I would lean towards that simply because you have a Jiren Jackson Jr who’s not on his way out he is still young uh you know uh you know I think he fills the big need that the Spurs need right now that is a big man of his ilk of his stock and that will do it a number two pick for him man yeah i think I I I I started looking at me like “All right let’s talk.” I think that’s where I’m at all right let’s talk let’s see what we can do i think what really is the crux of everything is just and again it’s not like what is all the Spurs fans say oh yeah sure do it if this was Kevin Durant five years ago if this was Kevin Durant seven years ago they see that’s what you’re getting with Jiren Jackson you’re getting that player that power player earlier than you’re getting Kevin Durant i would be intrigued by that um I would definitely open yours for open my ears with that one that that that’s a little better pill to swallow 25 year old player 225 and two last year is anybody going to score on the Spurs if JJ and Wier there you’re talking a guy who should have been uh defensive player of the year his rookie season and a guy who’s already defensive player of the year i I mean the uh the paint would be protected similar to what we saw with David and Tim timmy yeah i I mean Yeah i And then also your perimeter fox and Castle on the perimeter forget about it yeah forget about it i mean that’s kind of lock down D right there if you’re not if you’re really thinking about that’s that’s definitely a top six playoff spot right there i’ll give you and I I know you know I love locked on i’ll give credit one guy I did see mentioned on Twitter was uh his name is Matt Lurma he kind of talked about that a little bit uh I did kind of not play off of it but uh I did see that and I thought man what could what could get that done i I’m shopping number two for Jiren Jackson i I would do it in a heartbeat for Jiren Jackson a 25-year-old established player who’s a stretch guy who also defensive player of the year you check everything you need that you were wanting to get in the offseason when it comes to a big man and it just cost you number two yeah look look at Rudy you just got Spurs fans all fired up now calling calling the Spurs front office right now make the deal happen for JTJ make the deal happen well get we got to people about it yeah yeah i definitely I definitely would be open my ears to that uh that deal again you know for me it’s again it’s nothing against coming to rap i’m not personally like “Oh you’re a bad player.” No yeah you’re just on your way out buddy you know you’re leading there you’re still putting up good numbers you definitely are you’re a power player still but for how much longer and that’s what it is for me and you know you’re looking at again we’re talking about the Bane deal and the ripple effects it might have yeah I’m with you i don’t think you can compare it because you have a younger player in Bane and an older player with um uh with Durant so I think there’s that uh also too you know I don’t think Bane’s high sticker price would better Orlando paid up i don’t think he different in different positions um I don’t think first of all I don’t think the Spurs would even pay that they have it they can pay that to Phoenix but I don’t think they would i I can’t see Brian Right giving up that many protected first round unprotected first round picks and whatnot we’ll see we’ll see exactly but there you have it the ripple effects of the bean trade to Orlando we feel it doesn’t really have any impact on the Spurs if they’re chasing Toro what do you think let Rudy know on X at pick they’re going to make and if they don’t make it it’s going to be a draft night trade for them to trade down or back out uh but as of right now I buy that they’re going to draft somebody at 14 see I I I’m going to sell my own question i think they’re going to trade it uh out and maybe basically what we saw last year with Minnesota deal with number eight so I I think we’re going to see that again then you’re good you get number if you keep number two at this point you know and you get Harper I think you’re fine you’re set you know it’s time to get this team on the run because let’s just say the only thing that make me think that they’ll keep 14 if there’s a big that they have on their radar and that and also if you find a player that is better than Malachi or Blake Wesley and who’s available I mean you almost have to draft at that position uh remember I think they’ve really only got technically what eight nine guys in the roster yeah uh then you’re looking at GLeague guys so if there’s a guy that can make a difference that’s kind of why I think they stay at 14 this is a very deep draft i mean you can find starters all the way all the way down to 20s so I I mean it’s something that they got to look at but if they do trade it it’s a draft night trade buy or a sell that if the Spurs keep number two and if they do indeed draft Dylan Harper Dylan Harper will be a starter at one point next season oo see I would have I would have sold it if you said day one starter uh but you said at one point next season next season and draft Dylan Harper i will buy that um 10 times you know a day easily because Dylan Harper is the type of player that he’s already NBA ready he’s a solid player he’s an instant impact guy you don’t draft him at number you don’t draft a player at number two just to have him ride the pine the entire time so I think eventually he will work his way into the starting lineup you’ll probably end up seeing the starting three back court of Castle Harper and Fox when it’s all said and done all right uh last buy and sell I got for you buy or sell let me good one for you i’ll give you a few seconds i’m going to build the anticipation up right here buy or sell Mamu will be back a Spur next season all that for Mamu oh god no it’s a great question and it’s a great buy and sell question i’m gonna Man yeah it’s hard so okay go ahead before I give you my answer go ahead okay i’m gonna sell on the fact that I won him as a Spur he makes all the difference when he played he made a difference in San Antonio I think he wants to stay a Spur i think the Spurs won him to stay with them but I think he played good enough to get a pretty good contract somewhere else so I think he takes the money he kind of goes the route that we’ve seen other Spurs players in the past who’ve had pretty decent seasons go i think I’m selling the fact that he’s going to be in a Spurs jersey i hope I’m wrong 100% i hope I’m wrong but I’m going to sell the fact
