Why The Chicago Bulls Will Be Forced TO Decide Between Coby White Or Ayo Dosunmu

will the Chicago Bulls be forced to decide between Kobe White or IO Duma as they continue rebuilding their roster and the Bulls are reported to be interested in landing Jaylen Green if they’re the third team in the KD trade we’re going to talk about all that plus some workouts for the Chicago Bulls and me and Pat are both excited about we’re getting to all that and more in today’s Locked on Bulls [Music] you are Locked on Bulls your daily Chicago Bulls podcast part of the Locked On Network your team every day thank you for tuning in to Lockdown Bulls member of the Lockdown Podcast off your first purchase pat Kobe IO casey Johnson was on CHSN the Chicago lead in which he talked about that he feels like the Bulls will be forced to decide between Kobe White and Iodumu that he does not necessarily see the team giving extensions to Josh Giddy this year and Kobe White and Iodumu next off seasonason now the Bulls have more than enough cap space to do so so this would strictly be by choice whether because of construction the the money allocation maybe they have other money that they feel like there’s going to come in or they’re going to go after a different player but they technically have the money to resign both of them what do you think this uh this means for them and the fact that KC is speculating that they could have to uh decide between the two listen it you got to make a decision eventually right and I I I I love IO I love Kobe but we are at a point where this is kind of like baby bull situation right who’s winning there there there’s no wins for them to hold on to there there’s nothing that it re you really can look at and say this is a core that is going to work for the long term and eventually you have to move on from from pieces that are a part of that to try and build up your team in other ways you have to go in a different direction we are now what are we seven years into Kobe White’s career six years six seven somewhere in there yeah somewhere in there cuz think about it we’re we’re this is we’re in year five now of Billy Donovan and and AK and uh Kobe was here two years before that yeah so So uh 2019 Jesus yeah going into year seven that’s crazy jesus uh he’s he’s only 20 sorry uh 25 years old he is 25 kobe White’s not going to be your star kobe White can be a really good player on your team he’s not going to be your star io Dumu is not going to be your star he’d be a really good player on the team but he’s not going to be your star the po the reason I bring that up is because you’re going to have to shift to one of the new people on the team one of the new players on the team that you are going to be giving money or giving more shots to uh um you’re going to be paying Josh Giddy we pretty much all but know that and you probably feel like it’s time to let somebody else take the reigns on this team mis seems like he won it we’ve seen him at the LA workouts we’ve seen what he’s been doing in Chicago i I swear they’re probably I I think all him and I are doing are streaming and lifting bro that’s it and and eating cuz keep in mind you got to keep up your dietary plan that’s all they’re doing and if you watch the stream they do be eating on the stream too bro that’s all they’re doing is streaming and lifting bro they be maxing on the stream bro but like the the shift is coming where you’re going to have to make a decision on one of these guys to allow the other guy to get either more shine or allow the young buck to get his opportunity and it’s time for that move to be made i get it we all want to hold on to him just like we all want to hold on to Ben Gordon but it was time to move on from Ben Gordon yeah i mean I I I said it this way over on on the show too like I I think I most fans like to say “Well why we’re trading this guy but we need to be trading Patrick Williams and and and uh and the ballheaded don’t no wrong channel but it’s like people need to realize that for so long we’ve talked about aka holding on to assets too long that means moving assets that have value at the right time it’s easy just to say let’s trade our trash but if you’re talking about trading and making trades that that matter towards the the direction of your team or stacking assets or whatever it is you have to give up players of value you have to trade at some point tra players of value or you’re just going to keep all of them and then maybe and in the perfect world you keep all of them they all fit very well together but eventually you’re going to have to make a decision on players every team has had to do it every franchise has had to do it and it’s going to happen at some point and if we want the Bulls to get the most value back they’re going to have to try to strike other values high i I would love Kobe and I both to stay here but I even understand that okay I I can see a path in which you have to move on from one of these guys to get something back in return whether it’s a future pick or whatever else to kind of clear the deck and and make your roster make a little bit more sense listen Josh Giddy and Kobe White figured it out towards the end of last season let’s hope that they start off this season looking like they did but let’s not act like they’re most they’re the most seamless foot together they’re not i hate to tell you that they’re not they had to work on it for like four months out of a six-mon season to get to the point to where they’re able to play together hopefully they’ve now cracked that and they figured out but if they haven’t if you start off next season and it goes back to looking like uh these guys really aren’t playing the best together yeah you’re going to have to make a decision there yeah obviously and I mean I think again I would make the decision before you get to that point um I just think that you need to if if you’re the Bulls uh because it’s never going to be hotter for Kobe White than right now io Dumo is a tough one to move on from because he’s coming off the injury he is a good player i think that a lot of people would look at the contract that he’s on and want to take IO Dumu but facts for the contract absolutely to get as much value so I think it does lean more towards Kobe u but I would not be surprised if if we get here and we’re into the season and the Chicago Bulls go out and try and see if this thing makeshift works again i think what makes it tougher too dog is is the fact that you’ve got a player on your team that if he continues and gets back on track to where he was last season he fits perfectly next to Josh Giddy and Kevin Herder you need somebody who’s a catch and shoot demon on standing next to catch uh uh to Josh Giddy and that’s what Kevin Herder has been when he’s at his best when when he was in Atlanta it really didn’t work for him in Sacramento but even early on when he got here with the Chicago Bulls he was really good to catch a shoot he still was able to put the ball on the floor and get and create his own shot get to the rim do some things offensively i He was surprisingly I I I’m done with the all the defensive questions on people at this point billy Donovan can turn anybody into a defender um which is kind of weird except V everybody except V but um Oh well listen Vu is a pretty solid on ball defender for like 10 out of the starting 30 centers in the league but that’s about it i guess I guess the hang your hat on that um but it’s just to me like you’ve got a piece that could fit in there if the Kobe White scenario doesn’t work but we’re holding on to Kobe White because 25 years old maybe this is a situation that will work to me I think you got to you got to make that decision a little bit quicker yeah I can understand that because I mean if you get to the I I can understand it both ways i can understand if you if you want depending on what you’re being offered if you want to take advantage of that now in this off seasonason i can also understand saying well let’s wait and see and we can make this decision by the trade deadline but like I always say waiting till the trade deadline sounds great but I always think that there’s always more risk that can hurt you by waiting to the trade deadline between injuries lack of fit whatever else there’s always more scenarios that can hurt you more than help you but there are some that can help if if Kobe does start off next season on fire I mean that helps so I mean it really depends on what this team ends up doing i just I don’t know if I see a team out there that’s like drastically looking into Kobe White but there’s going to be a team that strikes out on something like they’re already talking about that DeMar Roen is the backup plan for some teams that don’t that might miss out on KD it’s like are we doing this again oh hey yeah i I’m just I I think I think right now The risk is not better than the reward cuz even at his best what is Kobe White accomplishing here with with this core solid team maybe yeah i mean it’s hard to know because his role has changed so much since he’s been here like it’s really hard to to gauge with Kobe that’s part of the interest in like just seeing where Kobe is finally coming in from with the same role he had the year prior to see what he can be i mean I I agree with that i I think he’s been he’s been the one player that’s been kind of pulled in all different directions but even with that you know like I don’t think it’s not to say that Kobe’s a bad player and cuz I don’t believe that at all i think Kobe’s a very good player i think he’s a great scorer um I think he’s just inconsistent at times and Kobe White at his best keeps you competitive in game it it does not put you over the top and I think the value of what you can get back is far greater than just being competitive in games but we know what AK values ak want to be just competitive he wants to be just in that play in so that he can so that uh he can hand Jerry that $4 million check every year angel here’s the thing the only thing that I think that shopping Kobe does hurt us in is if you end up realizing you have to keep him and he’s an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year that’s the only thing I So that otherwise I agree with you wholeheartedly there though cuz he going to ask for the bag exactly you got to do that but me but yeah yeah what is this amazon but yeah so we’re going to continue it man we’re next up we’re going to be talking about the Chicago Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa what happened here okay no that’s the right background we’re going to be talking about the Bulls being reported as being a team that could land Jaylen Green in a as being the third team in the KD trade but first we’re going to get into a message from Ollipop lollipop drinkllipop.com/locktonba to claim your free can and find Ollipop near you that’s drink alipop.com/lockdonba more locked on bulls coming up next [Music] why was that necessary see look you you wanted to get the troll sound in you couldn’t even get the transition right cuz you were trying to do that on the soundboard that’s crazy business first my brother no you’re right you’re right that’s on me so one of the things that came out uh uh late a couple days ago is that the Bulls first off let’s let’s let’s set this the Houston Rockets offer for Kevin Durant is apparently Jabari Smith the number 10 and uh and Jaylen Green the Suns do not want Jaylen Green back so they’re going to need a third team reportedly the Bulls the Nets and I can’t remember that i think there was a third team in there as well are teams that are that are listed as teams that could be the third team in that deal now we have heard before several times the Bulls are open to using their open cap space their expiring contracts to be the third team in a deal jaylen Green’s contracts at about $33 million he’s under contract for three more years the last year of that being a player option so with the Bulls having roughly about $18 million in cap space they wouldn’t have to put up the full 30 so a vouch could get you there uh Pat Patrick Williams deal could get you there as far as the salary matching requirements to bring in Jaylen Green to this team pat how do you feel about that and what do you think that could mean for the Bulls roster no thank you no jaylen Green need a dog jaylen Green jayen Green needs a lot more than a dog he needs hope a dream prayer uh Cambodian breast milk he needs a couple of things bro cambodian breast milk is crazy shout out to the D Chappelle refreshment only the finest Cambodian breast milk um no like I I employ Go look at his last 10 and I’m not saying that’s everything that of what he was but I don’t know if y’all remember this he was just not shooting anymore in the playoffs he He got shook he got scared of the moment no maybe he will become a great player down the line maybe he will have and listen Josh Giddy had a bad playoff bad uh uh Western Conference final right like it happens but like he stopped shooting all he do is shoot his skill set is shoot jump throw that mug up there like I I I got one player like that already i got P Will already and he’s taller i don’t need shorter P Will on my team wow comparing Jaylen Green to Pee Will is wild bro that’s that’s a wild take pee Will wishes he could he could he could score the If Pee Will could score at the level that Jaylen Green does while being the defender he already is he’d be a starter so he’d be a star listen we all we all know it’s mentality is it’s not it’s not uh um skill set but like to me with Jaylen Green the thing is one you’ve been incredibly inefficient over your career you’re starting to get a little bit more efficient but you were and and I know you can’t hold one playoff series against a player for his entire career but like bro that was bad i ain’t never seen nobody like I you he was visibly shook on the court he averaged 13 points i think it was like 12 points per game but he had a 38 point game in that you take that away he’s averaging like nine points in the playoffs here hey he he just he got scared bro and by the way the game he had 38 points what’d he take 24 shots i don’t even remember 24 shots from 38 points ain’t that bad though no no no it it was it was fine i think he I think he ended up shooting like 14 for for 24 or something like that he didn’t take 15 shots the rest of the series like that’s not acceptable like I watch What about the people for this though Pat and I know we’re going to get some responses like this what about the people that ask though but Pat he’s young he still has a lot of room to grow i get judging him off the playoff series and that’s fair but what if the upside’s there i’m just asking again I agree with you i don’t want Jayen Green on this team the you got to ask yourself is the juice worth the squeeze jaylen Green has been a very up and down player in his time in Houston it’s why Houston is very willing to move on from him it’s why Phoenix doesn’t want Jaylen Green back but let me ask you this Pat could we have not have said the same thing for Josh Giddy before we trade for him again just just for fairness of the conversation I don’t think there was a Josh Giddy stretch of confidence or Jaylen Green has had a a stretch like Josh Giddy did where you could have something to point to that you felt confident in last the 2023 24 season I think you had that stretch where they won 19 games in a row you saw that from Jaylen Green then I mean he was scoring but it was an incredibly inefficient scoring well no he was scoring I think really efficient and that was probably his best defensive stretch too he played really good defense when Alfen Singon went down at the end of that season and we haven’t seen it since then that but but again I again I don’t disagree with you i’m just you know we agree on this so for the nature of the conversation I’m just trying to offer counterpoints in in in the case that like if you look at that stretch like that stretch can be comparative to looking at the stretch of Josh Giddy when they that year that Shay was out and Josh Giddy actually got to play point guard like Jaylen Green got to do more things offensively he played really good he played some solid defense there if a team can if uh if AK was looking at anything I could see them looking at that stretch and saying if we can just get 80% of that more consistently we got us something sitting here looking at it now um it it very well I mean it’s kind of who who put the comment in there if if you going to uh pay if you going to trade for Drayen Green just pay Kobe White no agreed kind of and what as as I’m looking at it it’s like he’s two years younger than than than uh Kobe White there you go on that one but yeah as I’m looking at it it’s like 7 for 13 1 for 12 four for 12 7 for 11 0 for nine um but no I just to me I I think that uh the Jaylen Green conversation is fine um but I do I do think you’ve got what they say we got we got McDonald’s at home you got Jaylen Green at home like if if you having Jaylen Green conversation yeah he’s two years younger than Kobe White just pay Kobe White hey don’t disagree with you there don’t disagree i mean the only thing that I could think of it is is if somehow they see Jaylen Green being a better fit next to Kobe White but with his He’s not a good He’s not a great three-point shooter he’s not a terrible three-point shooter he’s not a great three-point shooter either yeah so it’s like I I guess I don’t know i mean we’ll see like I I I think kind of though that this has moved on a little bit I think um but we shall feeling like you got to go with that though when you go you know i mean like that’s your answer like that’s the kind of player Jaylen Green is he’s talented but it’s like Yeah it’s like here’s the thing probability over possibility there’s a there’s a possibility that Jaylen Green finally wakes up and figures it out and he’s a 24 25 point per game scorer for for six seven years in a row there’s a possibility that that happens what’s the probability that it happens though and that’s something that people talk so much about the possibility i don’t think they talk about the probability when you look at the way that Jaylen Green scores it’s like yeah to me I could see him be putting up 24 25 points per game but it’s a Jordan pull on the Wizards situation now I will say this his uh his shots off the court incredibly accurate oh buckets clearly clearly this guy’s putting up will numbers off he’s getting a lot of gut shots wait a minute if uh if Drea comes with him I might consider it well we had Megan the Stallion in here and it didn’t help anything i I wasn’t worried about the help and then Tori then Tori correct cheated on her and ruin ah Tori dang it got caught cheating allstar weekend he wasn’t even an allstar stay at home bro you know what killed me was when it was the one picture with just his handprints on it just there was so much hate in the comments it was like I hate Tory Craig bro that’s this man how do you do this you don’t even get minutes that’s crazy bro not getting minutes but out here cheating on Megan the Stallion bro not getting minutes but getting minutes hey man uh we going to keep this thing moving along appreciate y’all for showing love as [Music] that was a struggle towards the end there pat what happened to I got a little lung butter going here hayes I don’t know what’s going on here i mean listen it’s it’s a cautionary hazard of the job um yeah yeah hilarious started my first question to Ben Johnson with a little lung butter and uh nobody lets me forget it it was tough bro you get to you got to ask Ben Johnson a question you had lung butter anyway lung butter bro me me me me me me me me me me too he’s like who the is this guy yeah who’s this guy you got glasses lung butter what’s What’s happening here hey that’s this guy am I right carter Bryant Danny Wolf have been over the last day or so brought in for the by the Chicago Bulls for private workouts uh this this now increases the number of first projected first round picks that the Bulls have brought in to four uh they they join um Asa Newell and Drake Pal as the only first round projected players that the Bulls have brought in for for uh workouts uh let’s start off with Danny Wolf i know that Shak you’ve been talking about Danny Wolf for a while now how do you feel about Danny Wolf listen I think Danny Wolf will be phenomenal on this Bulls team um I think that very surprised and maybe the Bulls are the team that gets him a little bit higher but when you’re talking about someone who literally does just about everything that you need a big man to do um as far as scoring as far as rebounding as far as defensive ability as far as uh um now I’m not going to sit here and tell you that he is you know switchable one through five but I think he excuse me I think he does a really good job on the defensive side of the ball um especially around the rim he was a block and a half a game he was nine nine and a half rebounds per game at Michigan 13.2 points just someone who could do everything and I think there’s a conversation to say he wasn’t allowed to do some of it you know what I mean like the the handle that Danny Wolf has you didn’t see that on display every game some games he had to be a big man so to me if you’re talking about a player that fits a and I hope the workout I’ll be honest with you I think he should be much higher up the draft board in in a lot of these mock drafts if you’re talking about somebody who just fits Danny Wolf fits in with every team he is your prototypical modern-day big man but he has a little bit more size biggest weakness is free throw shooting yeah free throw shooting defense uh he’s not he’s not a great defender um but I look at Danny Wolf and I said this I know this is going to trigger some people uh Danny Wolf is modern vouch that can dribble and that’s not a bad thing at all like he’s he’s more athletic uh he can pass he can shoot he can do basically everything offensively that you can ask for Danny Wolf to do he can do he can shoot the three don’t want to turn see him turn into a three-point shooter but he can shoot the three and stretch the floor every shot from the mid-range onto the rim he can do he has he has really good footwork back to the basket moves everything really really really good passer as well um I think that passing is something that could even get better at the NBA level and he’s not too bad of a of a rim protector over a block per game as well last year for Michigan so all those things play into Danny Wolf being a really good prospect the on ball defense is a little bit of concern but I will say this he’s not vooched to where he falls asleep defensively danny Wolf is active on defensively giving you he’s very active defensively and in the NBA as a big man you being active it’s getting half of the way there already so I like Danny Wolf a lot i did initially it would seem like a bit of a reach to get him there at 12 but more and more mocks have him going i think the Ringer’s latest mock has him going at number 11 to the to the Portland Trailblazers so uh so there you have like he’s really rising up some some stocks i think that’s because people realize like very very high floor and still with a decent ceiling and that’s something that usually does get you still drafted pretty high especially as a big man you get a big man with a high floor that’s what you want uh next up though Carter Bryant now Carter Bryant I know is already going to trigger some Bulls fans a player that did not start his freshman year in college doesn’t have the crazy statistical stats shapes up to be a prototypical 3 and D player at the next level but here’s what I’m telling you if you’re getting ready to type think or write out Patrick Williams comparison stop it go actually watch this kid play basketball because the first thing that you will notice is that mentality is not a problem for Carter Bryant at all that dude is was with Arizona which is if I’m not mistaken that’s exactly where Dalen Terry came from they just run a they just run a system that people just play a role you fit into a role everybody gets about six to eight shots per game and if you’re coming off the bench you’re playing a specialist role but I tell you what Carter Bryant he can’t create his own shot yet but he’s young enough to maybe where he learns that but right away defensively rim protection and three-point shooting I want him on my team how do you feel Pat uh I think there are better players there to take at 12 if you were going to go with somebody at 12 um I think there’s better options that fit the Bulls but if you came out of it with a Carter Bryant Carter Bryant is is this this is this it’s not a stretch but you got to go back in the memory bank carter Bryant’s Jimmy Butler carter Bryant’s literally like I what do you do well I can’t nobody get past me i’m going grab every rebound that come my way remember how Jimmy used to jump out the gym yeah yeah like Stacy started calling him Jimmy Jordan because one day I think I don’t remember if it was Derek or or Tyrus they threw a oop and Jimmy like outjed everybody and caught the oop and like sat on Buddy back when he dunked it like that’s what Carter Bryan is he can jump out the gym he’s got the wingspan he’s got the defensive ability he actually shot I think in in small sample size as well 37% from three um not a ton of of of shots but like you said he’s not getting a ton of shots but he comes in with something that he does really really good already and I’ll be honest with you I know he’s only 6’8 but he’s one of the best rebounders in the draft yeah per per minute and per like rebounding percentage he’s really high up there because he has that long wingspan 7 foot wingspan being 6’7 almost 6’8 with shoes on so I like Carter Bryant i get it and I know there’s going to be a lot of trepidation from Bulls fans in regards to that because of Pee Will and like I said me and Pat have both said this pee Will’s skill set has never been the problem it’s been the person so you can’t attribute PW’s stuff to everybody that you look at and you think “Oh Pee Will,” unless you unless you’ve done a bra a psychological evaluation on him don’t do the PeeWee will comparisons carter Bryant is not Pee Will no not at all and I I think the the thing with Carter Bryant is it’s Carter Bryant’s a player that you draft knowing you’re going to wait and see like he’s a three to four year by the time you get into his fourth year you’ll start to see okay we may have to actually pay this dude because that’s probably where the offense is going to be more developed he He just He didn’t take shots he wasn’t a shooter he was off the bench he was in there for defense he was in there to play his role he played his role really well doesn’t mean he can’t do it but it’s going I think it’s going to take time for him to become that and I get the 37% on threes but like you you can’t I mean it literally is like a 37% like he was a 90s player like there’s some games he didn’t take a three at all yeah yeah i mean I I I like Carter Bryant um I’m not mad at them bringing them in and you know I think that over this next week we’re probably going to see a lot more first round pick uh level players brought in by the Bulls over workouts we have six days until the NBA draft bat sick crazy bro crazy like I it it feels the NBA season I guess NFL too most NBA and NFL are kind of like this when the season ends it’s just like oh what do we do up draft up the uh my drafts up training camp like it’s quick as soon as the season end then you get your low where we just sitting there watching baseball but baseball I think I think football has more of a low than than basketball cuz literally we’re going to go the draft is going to be maybe like a week after the finals ends like that there’s a chance of that if it goes seven games i think the draft is on the same day game seven is going to be on or something like this like the day after day before so then and then a week after that now that they’ve condensed the time free agency starts 2 three days after the draft so like we are about to be headed right back into busy season and so we’ll see i’m glad man i I think the Bulls have an opportunity to do some some really good things and the question is will AK actually do it this time or will he be sitting in there giving himself the stranger hey man appreciate y’all for tuning in and showing love hit that like button subscribe to the page leave a fivestar view y’all know what to 1. Carter Bryant has a Paul mentality. Buddy shot 4 times per game in college, not aggressive. I’m cool on him

  2. 14:05 I don’t feel like that’s a fair comparison at all Pat. I get it he was shook in the moment but if anything it probably was better for them he wasn’t just chucking up shots because he was just bricking meanwhile sengun and Thompson clearly were having better offensive games that series.

I just feel like if that’s the complaint then you have to acknowledge that if he does just take more shots but still missing at the same rate then we all would be crucifying him for shooting too much and not recognizing that he doesn’t have the shot that series.

  3. Simple defense win game. Ayo is the better defender. Coby can get the best return. If they draft a Cedric Bulls could be like a Celtic light. Giddey, Ayo, Cedric and Matas.

  4. Also let’s not pretend here that Coby is just so much better that we shouldn’t consider green. Because even with his bad performance this year it’s still better than what teams would see for Coby playoff performance.

I’m not saying green is a guarantee to even develop here. But that kind of doesn’t matter since we ain’t in a situation where we can be picky and conservative about taking on deals that net us even a chance at having something great. So even said this episode you have to make tough trades and it’s easy to talk about trading trash. Well I argue it’s also easy to find every excuse to not accept green and trading Coby but it’s a decision that needs to seriously be considered. We can’t be expecting greatness but be so averse to risks that we just shrug at the possibility at getting a young dude with some upside while being able to possibly not give any significant assets away so that you can use them for later trades while having full control of your draft picks.

  5. Coby or Ayo? Trade Ayo. Dalen Terry is entering his 4th year and Terry does well what Ayo currently does well. The difference between the two is Terry is 2" taller and a few years younger than Ayo. Coby is a transcendent player much like Captain Kirk Hinrich was before the Bulls landed Derrick Rose in 2009.

  6. I'd trade Coby. Besides scoring & creating, for the most part Ayo does everything better not to mention Coby has more value.
