BIG MOVE COMING For Dallas Mavericks Ahead Of 2025 NBA Draft?

[Music] is Colin Ston on the Mavericks radar as a potential point guard target here in the 2025 NBA offseason that’s what we are talking about here on Mavericks today as the report from Andy Larson of the Salt Lake Tribune said that the Mavericks have checked in on Colin Ston and we know that the Mavericks are in the market for a point guard that can both start and come off the bench colin Ston fits that bill perfectly we’ll talk about him here in just a second but first hit that subscribe button if you haven’t already covering all the latest Mavericks news and rumors all throughout the 2025 NBA offseason we’re less than a week away from the NBA draft here at this point and now we have someone to talk about in the form of a trade in Colin Ston who the Mavericks have had interest in before ston is a really really solid guard with the Utah Jazz been there the last three years after he was in Cleveland last season with Utah in 63 games he averaged 18 points 48% from the field and 40% from three if you look at his three-point number the last three seasons has been fantastic at over 39% each of the last three years he stayed relatively healthy the last couple seasons although he missed almost 20 games this last year and he has dealt with some health issues in the past but this is a guy I look at that I think the Mavericks could absolutely use and we know that the Mavs have had interest in Sexton before whether it be at the trade deadline or in the offseason in order to make a deal happen the Mavs have been rumored and linked to Colin Sexton multiple times and this is just the latest in that uh little saga I guess if you will i think Sexton would be a fantastic addition to this basketball team here and he is going to be a potential trade target for the Mavericks that they look at because we know that Kyrie Irving’s absence until the middle of the season is going to be felt this season ston with the Utah Jazz he started 63 games or no he played in 63 games started in 61 games so he can both start and come off the bench and that’s a weapon that the Mavericks are absolutely looking for when Ston is a starting point guard for the Utah Jazz he’s not the most efficient player on the court although he did shoot a decent 48% from the field this last season i do think that Sexton is someone that the Mavericks could fit right in to their team with the 16 or no with the $18.9 million he’s going to be making this season daniel Gaffford is someone that could be a potential trade target for the Utah Jazz in exchange for Colin Ston he’s someone that I think Utah could have a level of interest in now Utah does have you know a kind of glutton of big so to speak they have Lori Markin they have John Collins and we know that the Mavericks have talked about PJ Washington as a potential trade target as well he could be but I think the Mavericks would prefer to keep both of those guys ston’s contract this year is going to be one year and $18.97 million basically $19 million bucks if you will and like I said he can start or come off the bench he’s played either role there in his NBA career um mainly has started in his career in Utah in the three seasons he’s had 127 starts in 189 games so he has done a little bit of both and I think the Maverick’s thinking would be if he can start the first 55 60 games of the season and then once Kyrie Irving comes back you could bring Colin Ston off the bench that would be absolutely ideal for this Mavericks team going forward it’s something I would 100% be interested in we’ll talk about some potential your hat here today the question is this and I think I know the answer from the Maverick standpoint would you give up Daniel Gaffford or PJ Washington in a trade for Colin Ston i would be hesitant but at the same time it would fill a need for the Mavericks and you can’t guarantee that Daniel Gaffford is going to sign an extension you can’t guarantee that PJ Washington is going to sign an extension i saw this trade being floated around uh Mav’s Twitter earlier today when the rumor first came about and that was Colin Ston for Caleb Martin Jaden Hardy Omax and a draft compensation this deal is not even close to getting it done the the Utah Jazz and the A who it’s kid I believe who is now president of basketball operations over there he would laugh in your face if you sent this trade offer to him i just don’t see this one happening omax just has no value at this point we haven’t even seen him play in the league any extended minutes he’s also coming off a pretty serious wrist injury that may keep him out for the start of next season jaden Hardy while he’s shown some scoring flashes in the league hasn’t really panned out to be a top level second round pick like the Mavericks have and Caleb Martin’s barely played this year as well and is a limited player he’s a role player and that’s all he is i do think that you can make a deal happen with the second trade idea that I have here which would be Daniel Gaffford or PJ Washington not not both max Christie or Caleb Martin in that deal so if you went Gaffford and Christie if you went Washington and Martin or if you went Washington and Christie Gaffford Martin whatever combination of players the Utah Jazz would want from that I think that could potentially be enough that would get you closer to getting towards a deal with the Utah Jazz for Colin Ston i don’t think the Mavericks have the best package to offer Utah if I’m being honest if they really ended up wanting to shop Sexton this year I think there are multiple teams that could come with a better package to try to go get his services i do think that the Mavs would be would be in love with getting Son without having to give up Gaffford or PJ but as Mark Stein said they would both he would prefer the Mavericks would prefer excuse me to keep them both i’m just not sure that’s a super realistic proposition if you’re the Mavericks and you want to upgrade significantly at point guard if you don’t want to give up Washington or Gaffford and you want to roll with Brandon Williams your veteran taxpayer mid-level or veteran minimum plus Naji Marshall and baby Jaden Hardy as your ball handlers for the first half of the season then you can do that but if you want a guy of Col Colin Ston’s caliber who can go out there and get you 17 18 points a game you’re going to have to give to get and as fans of our teams we always overvalue our role players we always think they’re better than they really are and they command more than they do on the trade market so you have to keep that in mind as well if it were me I love Gaff and Washington i think I would give up at least one of those guys to go get him though be the GM for me though down in the comments section who are you giving up in a trade for Colin Ston if you give up Gaffford type G if you give up Washington type W if it would be neither type N down there in the comments i don’t think you would get be giving up both for Sexton i just don’t think the Mavs would even want to do that at that point but one thing we do know this is the Mavericks are going to be in the market for a point guard they want a guy that can both start and come off the bench whether that comes in the form of Walter Clayton in the 2025 NBA draft who we talked about yesterday whether that comes in the form of a Colin Ston via trade whether that comes in the form of Chris Paul via free agency I do think the Mavericks are going to go external for a point guard this off season it’s just a matter of how they
