TOP 5 Boston Celtics Draft Targets Before 2025 NBA Draft

[Music] we are less than one week away from the 2025 NBA draft And we have yet to do a draft video this cycle on Celtics today So that’s what we’re getting into as the trade talks they’ve kind of quieted as we’re less than a week away from the 2025 NBA draft And you see these couple of former Celtics draft picks on your screen right here I thought it would be fun to start today’s show a little bit of trivia If you’re a real diehard Celtics fan can you name me the three players in this photo I’ll give you a hint They were drafted in 2012 Let me know if you guys know the names of three these three Celtics I don’t know if I would say legends but Celtics draft picks from over a decade ago All right let’s talk a little bit about the 2025 NBA draft It’s coming up next Wednesday and Thursday the 25th and 26th of June And in round one the Celtics will pick 28th overall But they will not have much time uh to think I guess they will have a full day but not too many picks in between as they have the 32nd overall pick in round number two And so far through the pre-draft process the Boston Celtics have held 21 draft workouts Now with these selections that Boston has there have been a couple of rumors floating around as to whether or not Boston would keep both the selections or potentially move up We heard a report from Grant Ath that the Celtics would potentially be open and are one of the teams that is most commonly heard that rumblings of moving up in this draft So one of or both of these picks could potentially be traded Now could they trade all the way up to the mid- teens Could they get close to maybe even pick number 10 Who knows at this point Maybe you would end up packaging a player to go all the way up there but it’s all up in the air right now We’re going to operate today’s video under the impression that the Celtics are going to keep both of these selections So as of right now Boston we’ll go through the workouts first Who who is Boston brought in for pre-draft process So as for the names you see on screen right now the first couple of lists we’re going to go with these guys are unranked These guys are all projected to be undrafted free agency I got Steve Steve Saddle the wing out of Temple Aaron Scott the wing out of St John’s Otega Ooway out of Kentucky the scoring guard there Clifford Omarui out of Alabama a rim rocker Clinkapella type but not much of an athlete Zeke Mayo the point guard out of Kansas They couldn’t really put much together up in Lawrence this year Zeke Mayo a little bit inefficient Don’t love him Caleb Grill he has been bouncing around college basketball Iowa State Missouri I don’t really like his attitude He’s kind of had some off the court issues as well Ben Greg a big man out of Gonzaga Good vision can space the floor a little bit and got a long wingspan Bryce Goodine out of Oklahoma Gabe Dorsey out of William and Mary and Obina Anokili from Marshall Not too familiar with a couple of these guys but you know the Celtics are doing their homework Mohamd Anini from Mona Monaco is a foreign prospect the Celtics have brought in as well as Jackson Rich Robinson from Kentucky the guard there Kobe Sanders the guard from Nevada as well as Javon Small a name that’s being mocked a couple times in some Celtics mock drafts that I have seen the point guard Terry Rosier kind of type player out of West Virginia And then Janai Broom the one runner up to national player of the year to Cooper Flag the big man out of Auburn I don’t love his prospect I would be pretty upset to be honest if the Boston Celtics took him Now the two guys that the Celtics have worked out that are kind of projected to go in that late first maybe even mid first round Chaz Laneir he’s kind of mocked around that late first early second round The sharpshooter out of Tennessee can get his off the bounce as well And then Cedric Coward has been rising up draft boards he projects as a mid- first round pick at this point But a super long wing just really fits that NBA mold Look man I would love if the Boston Celtics could go out there and draft Cedric Coward but uh it doesn’t look like they’re going to be in a position to do so at this point He’s getting knocked around you know 12 13 14 I’m seeing some people even mock him as high as the 10th overall pick in this draft and I I just don’t think the Celtics will be able to you know even foster a trade that gets them in a position to draft Coward but also he’s an awesome player and I’m looking forward to seeing him work in the NBA But let’s look at the most recent mock drafts for the Boston Celtics I went through probably the most reputable sources around the sports media world So we’ll start with the ringer They got Maxim Renard at the center the stretch big out of Stanford The Ringer does uh most recent ESPN mockdraft has Drake Powell the freshman guard out of UNC as well as CBS Sports So I don’t put a lot of uh great stock in but shout out my guy Matt Matt Norlander the college basketball analyst over there He had Drake Powell going to the seas as well Liam McNeely the Yukon wing Um he Bleacher Report has the Celtics taking him And then our chat sports mock draft has Ryan Caulk Brener the shot blocking center out of the from the Kraton Blue Jays as the 28th overall selection So these are the most recent NBA mock drafts and a name appeared on here twice Drake Powell out of UNC And this is a guy who look he is a freshman There isn’t a lot of polish on his game so far but he does provide an elite trait and that is on ball defense This guy’s one of the best perimeter defenders in the entire draft And at 66 200 lb 19 years old there’s a lot of work to be done in his game but he already provides an elite trait which gives him a high enough floor a high enough floor to play at the next level He’s 19 years old He projects right now as a late first or early second round draft pick So he’s in that kind of pool that Boston’s going to be able to select from with their two selections at 28 and 32 They can kind of look at the same you know level and tier of players in this uh in this draft pool right now And Powell is certainly one of the guys that fits that mold If we look at what he did at the NBA draft combine he tested pretty well man As a 66 player with a 7 foot wingspan he’s going to be able to get those you know those deflections that he needs to get He’s actually a really really good um you know just athlete across the floor He can get up and down He can follow defenders on their hip wherever they are on the basketball floor And you know he does have some things to work on though in his game He’s not a great three-point shooter And you know if you’re a Boston Celtics fan you know that that’s something they’re going to pride themselves on on the offensive end Now the counting numbers for Powell at UNCC in his freshman year weren’t all that great He only averaged seven points a game three rebounds Like hey his numbers from three were good but they weren’t on a very high volume There are definitely some concerns with him in that regard And as far as how he projects as a pro I mean he’s NBA ready physically but he he’s a great spot-up shooter He he can’t really create much himself And another report from our guy Nick Roloff here who does all great NBA draft work is he’s got to improve on defense but honestly from his frame and and athletically like I I think he’s going to project very very well in that regard and him bringing that elite trait already is something that I’m looking for in the Celtics draft pick because yeah he’s a freshman and that could signal that he’s a project or somebody he’s got upside down the line You got to work on him and develop him over multiple years But if Boston is set on keeping the core of Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown and Derek White longterm then they’re not looking for long-term projects They’re looking for players that are going to be able to contribute right away and provide an elite trait And I think Drake Powell does that with his on ball defense And when you consider where the Celtics are at financially like they’re going to need guys who can play right away on these cheap rookie contracts and you know 28th overall selection 32nd overall selection those might have to be players that end up you know being in the rotation for Boston next season I think Drake Powell will have the opportunity to do that given his strength on the defensive end With that being said comment your number one Celtics draft target We’re going to get into my top five Celtics draft targets in just a moment but who is your guy Let me know in the comments section who you want the Celtics to draft at least at pick 28 All right let’s get into it My 2025 Boston Celtics draft targets We’ve yet to do this on the channel so far so I’m very excited to get right into it I am a college basketball nut and uh I hope one of my one of my guys ends up wearing green come June 25th Let’s get right into it Ryan Kulkiner Yeah you the couple of these names that you’re going to see uh in this list are some of the names that were on the most recent Celtics mock drafts and Kulk Brener is no exception man an absolute rim protector and a guy who I think could potentially become a floor spacer down the line in this league if he continues to develop his jump shot which is getting better and better as time goes on He is 23 so a guy who’s had a lot of experience at the collegiate level and has dominated basically all the entire time multiple times a big east defensive player of the year he projects as a late first early second round But I think a lot of people are very much sleeping on Kaulk Brener 71 250 I mean he’s got a 76 wingspan This guy is an elite shot blocker I’m talking not just protecting the rim but he’s got the ability to recover and move from like an opposite low block to the to the other one and and have the help defense and be able to reject a shot at the rim He is that good And he can move a little bit too man He shot 32 of 48 from three in his uh combine shooting splits too So I really do think he’s got upside in that regard And look he is a absolute lob threat I know the Celtics don’t run that typical like just high pick and roll uh rim runner kind of style offense but he’s got that in his bag and he can be your Luke Cornet replacement I honestly think that he could start at some point for the Celtics last year He filled up the stat sheet at Kraton in his final season 19 points a game nine boards elite efficiencies from the field Like he’s going to be his his role in the NBA is going to be blocking shots and and and just scoring around the rim And I think the Celtics could absolutely use a player like that on their books right now I’m I’m I’m excited to see what Ryan Cogbriner does in this league and I hope it’s with the Boston Celtics because they’re going to need front court help It’s not looking likely that they keep both of if maybe not even one of Al Horford or Luke Cornet So they’re going to have to look at some front court help I think Cockper can plug in play right away Let’s move on to our second one We’re going to stick in the big man category but kind of an opposite style of play We’ll go to Danny Wolf the Yale transfer that ended up at Michigan this past year and completely changed his style of play not an athlete by any means but man is he a wizard with the basketball He’s kind of really you know just completely transformed his game He was definitely more of a true big man during his days with the Yale Bulldogs but when he came over to Michigan man he was running pick and rolls He was kind of running quasi point guard for them He’s got elite passing skills His jump shot needs a little bit of work but this is a high IQ basketball player and somebody who I really believe is going to be on the Celtics radar for the coming days and as we get closer and closer to this draft because he was awesome And look his measurements they’re not going to blow you away but he is a sevenfooter He does have a positive wingspan so that is good But you know he’s not going to wow you Look his three-pointer was not great at the NBA scouting combine so that is something that he’s going to have to improve upon But I do think down the line he’ll be able to be a guy who can work in a fiveout offense and work along the perimeter He’s got good ball handling skills got good vision and I think that’s going to translate very much so to the NBA Our scouting report from Nick Roloff here says he’s a quality ball handler and passer for his size who ran the offense He plays hard on both ends on and off of the ball and has upside as a shooter but the mechanics and release need improvement So it’s a little bit of an ugly shot at this point He was actually kind of working in a couple of off the tripble um jump shots in his game at Michigan It was kind of crazy to watch a sevenfooter do step back jumpers in the mid-range but he has it in his bag and hopefully that ends up translating to the NBA And if it is with the Boston Celtics like I I think he’s absolutely somebody who fits Joe Mazula’s style of play even if the jump shot needs a little bit more work Let’s move on here from two bigs We’ll go to the guard spot as the Celtics have been rumored to be looking at a slew of point guards in this draft Let’s go to Ben Saraf from Israel who played in Germany professionally this past season Look man if we’re looking for a true point guard Saraf is going to do it And he’s also not exactly a small guard either So like if you’re concerned about you know the seeds not really having size in their back court with Derek White and Peyton Pritchard for the future Well Ben Sarafh 6′ 200 19 years old and he’s got a lot of skills that are already NBA ready at this point Definitely more of a traditional true point guard Did not test at the NBA scouting combine But look man he is one of the players who’s kind of jostling around um NBA draft board Some people have him going in the teens some people have him going late in the first That’s kind of what I’ve been seeing for the most part Roloff said that he’s a a smart point guard in the pick and roll who knows how to manipulate defenders He’s an efficient dribble driver and finisher below the rim He’s an improved shooter especially off of the catch but it’s unlikely it’ll be one of his best traits Look he is a dynamic point guard He’s got shades of a Tyresese Hallebertton type of player although he maybe doesn’t have the best overall mechanics as a jump shooter Look 28% that’s ugly from three-point range but he’s probably facing pretty physical defenses over there in the Bundesliga Um I I think he’s going to be very very fine in in in the NBA Um is is he my number one prospect overall No I have a couple point guards uh ranked ahead of him at this point but if he’s the pick at 28 I think it’s going to be great value for the Celtics And that’s another ball handler as they are primed to probably lose Drew Holiday in free agency We got two more draft targets to talk about in just a moment but make sure you’re hooked up with this awesome hoodie right here that I just pointed away from This Celtics hoodie right here It’s in green And you know it’s the summer right now That’s hot but I know you guys are in AC filled offices You might be feeling chilly from time to time So go get yourself hooked up with this awesome Celtics hoodie that’s 40% off during these summer months Man this link right here gets you there chatsports.com/bos hoodie chatports.com/boss hoodie to go get yourself this Celtics hoodie right now It looks a little lightweight too I might be able to work out and do a little run in that thing in the mornings I like it Go get yourself one today at this link right here That’s in the comment section and description of today’s video All right let’s move on from number three to number four on my Celtics draft targets and that’s Maxim Renard the stretch big out of Stanford So if the Celtics are going to lose Chris Dasporzingis this offseason look no further than the sharp shooting big out of Stanford Look if the Celtics want to continue to run five out offense then they’re going to need to have five out players on their team And look there’s no guarantee that Cornet and and Horford are on this roster next year And Cornet’s not even a floor spacer himself compared to what he used to at the start of his career Rayard is and he’s 22 years old got a lot of experience 7 foot one He’s got shades of more of a Brook Lopez type potentially than maybe a um Chris Esport Zingis but he can put the ball on the deck And he doesn’t have the best wingspan overall but I think that’s going to maybe potentially play into his strengths a little bit as a ball handler as an and as an offensive threat 71 wingspan on a 7-1 player is not great overall but I mean this this guy can can shoot the pill and and he’s also a decent defender overall Don’t don’t let that wingspan scare you He can still defend the rim a little bit and he put up crazy numbers last year in Stanford A 20 and 10 player Look he’s losing basketball They didn’t win a lot of games with the Cardinal last year but Roloff says he’s an efficient paint defender who has also grown from perimeter shooting He’s a fluid mover for his size and has excellent feel as a passer still needs to develop his post presence though Yeah he is not exactly a giant down low But look the NBA is going away from post play I I don’t necessarily think that it’s something that he even needs to develop at a to be a huge strength in his game This is a perimeter player we’re talking about here and somebody who I think fits seamlessly to this Boston Celtics kind of scheme and outlook offensively I would not be mad whatsoever if this selection at 28 Let’s move on to our final draft target for your Boston Celtics And we’ll go uh we’ll go international again with Noah Penda out of France the 3ND wing He’s got shades of a Wilson Chandler Deari Carroll type of player who’s just going to be able to knock down the open shot and defend at a really high level And at 68 220 lbs like is a big body we’re talking about here This is somebody who’s going to be able to slide into that defensive role that Jason Tatum is going to play next season defending threes and fours and has the ability to you know stick on double drivers Man he’s an athletic player and he’s kind of being mocked around a couple different places I’ve seen him in the mid- teens I’ve also seen him in the late first maybe even early second round of some mock drafts So absolutely a player who’s in the Celtics wheelhouse If they fall in love with him who knows maybe they could end up trading up for Noenda He did not go to the NBA draft combine either but absolutely presents physical traits that will jump off the page to NBA scouts and and and teams around the league The scouting report says that he’s a great passer who can hit teammates and and teammates in lanes from anywhere excuse me Does the little things well hustles stealing uh rebounding and more And does not show much ability as a shooter Did shoot 35% last year uh in France but it wasn’t on a super high volume This this is a defensive player that you’re going to go out there and select here with Penda Look they’re going to need more wing defense Like they probably won’t even have Sam Hower on the roster next year with what his luxury attacks penalty will look like So you’re looking at a team that employs Jaylen Brown and then you look down the line and it’s like Jordan Walsh and Baylor Shyman So they’re going to need legitimate perimeter defense on the wing and Noah Penda absolutely fits that bill I wouldn’t be mad at all if he ended up being a Boston Celtic come next week So with that being said out of the five names we’ve talked about on today’s show pick one to draft If it’s Ryan Cochrren give me an RK in the comment section If it’s Danny Wolf you want an high IQ mobile big man who kind of runs like a point guard give me a DW If you want Ben Saraf an actual just true point guard but with a big frame give me a BS If it’s Maxim Rainard and you want a Chris Porzingis replacement who can put the ball on the deck give me an MR And if it’s No Appenda you want a 3 and D wing from across the pond give me an NP in the comments section Let me know who you guys want in Celtic green next week That will do it for today’s edition
