Game Time download the Game Time app create an account and use code locked on NBA for $20 off your first purchase big time news out of our nation’s capital today lenel Willingham our guy that was on here two nights ago he’s got the scoop he was deep in it as the summer heat comes in he was scooping like it was ice cream according to sources the Wizards have been very active working the phones in an attempt to trade up from the sixth overall pick and even placed a call to San Antonio trying to inquire about that second overall pick but according to the report the Spurs are locked in on Dylan Harper from Ruters at number two however Washington does feel confident that they do have the assets they have to move up for a player if one of their top prospects falls to this point abdullah this is just a major shakeup especially considering what we talked about yesterday with the proponent that Ace Bailey might be someone that’s falling uh because of what’s been going on with his draft camp however now the expectation we’re trying to get and this is what Lenell told us a couple nights ago that he expected the Wizards to be super aggressive here in this draft and it looks like that’s coming into fruition yeah I mean huge huge news shout out to Lenell giving us the info but are we surprised though Ben last year Will Dawkins trades Denny Odia a guy who just no one thought was going to be on the move and originally everyone wanted Kyle Kosma out of DC and everyone was shocked and then you use that trade to acquire your point guard for the future hopefully in Bob Carrington that he can be that star and now you’re going going into this draft Will Dawkins his track record of being aggressive i don’t know if he can get to two but for me we talk about Ace Bailey falling i think the possibility of trading up for Trey Johnson is still there i think Ace Bailey also this cause for concern about declining workouts and him wanting to be somewhere where he’s the number one guy taking all the shots but this is huge news and this goes to show the Wizards they they want to be aggressive at this draft and they have the draft capital they have the assets jordan P I mean the jury is still out on him is he his future here in DC is still up in the air i want him to stay you want him to stay as well but if you’re if you’re looking at Will Dawkins’s timeline Jordan Pool is older than a lot of these younger guys so this is huge and if you move up from six Charlotte Utah get in front of them and then potentially if you don’t move up you stay at six maybe you trade down to to get eight from Brooklyn and say “Hey Jeremiah Fears is your guy come here and take him and give us a good offer.” A lot of options on the table for the Wizards and this news coming out it’s major it just goes to show the Wizards are willing to really really be aggressive this upcoming year yeah and this all comes you know on the heels of a lot of reports from NBA executives saying they think the Wizards got screwed by the lottery and how this was going to set them back a couple years in this rebuild and we all know and everyone around the league knows that next year the Wizards are likely uh lottery bound again it’s going to be important in terms of protecting that first round pick uh so it does not go to the New York Knicks that last domino that falls in the John Wall trade which will be five years from November I believe which is insane to think about at this point but this goes to show you that the Wizards run office right here and Will Dawkins they are willing to take a big swing in this draft they’re willing to block out the noise that is coming from other organizations that think the Wizards don’t have a plan going forward and you know they’re not sure how to handle it because of the unsuccessful tank because of the unluck or the lack of luck I should say in the lottery but I think this goes to show you that the Wizards now if they really really love a player they’re going to go out there and get him if it’s a guy like Trey Johnson that they really want at for or even trading up a spot the Wizards have traded up just one spot in the Will Dawkins regime the first pick he made as the uh Wizards general manager he trades up one spot with Indiana to get Bal Koulibali a guy that he absolutely loved throughout the draft process and we’re going to give you the details on who’s worked out with the Wizards so far that might give us a better idea uh of who we expect the Wizards maybe to go after here on draft night but there are so many moving parts to this because one you have the situation with Ace Bailey a lot of people from his camp have made it pretty clear it seems like he doesn’t want to play in Utah it seems like he wants to go anywhere uh where he’s going to get the most shots early on in his career and that’s why Washington uh seems like a really good fit for him i think Charlotte would actually be a really good fit for the team-wise to get Ace Bailey but that might not be overall where he wants to be because he’s not going to get the opportunity to be as ball dominant and uh get up shots the way he would early in his career in Charlotte with uh obviously LaMelo Ball who has kind of been the ball dominant player down there for him uh but there’s so many moving parts to this whole situation and I’m really excited now to see what the Wizards are going to do and at the time this comes out it’s gonna be six days away from the NBA draft and this is where it gets crazy Abdul this week has been full of the smoke screens about Ace Bailey smoke screens from Philadelphia about what what’s going to happen and now the Wizards have uh found their way in some of the drama that ensues as the final week you know heads or the final week counts down as we get toward the NBA draft here it’s just a crazy time and you know it’s time to start getting excited about what um what the Wizards might do here yeah it’s and it’s not just pick six the report also talks about uh I saw Lenel tweet saying that a they wizards would be comfortable staying at six and potentially moving up from 18 and we talked about the idea if a guy like Derek Queen common mwash a guy they really really like that falls out of the lottery why not go up there and be aggressive again you have those pick swaps you have a lot of second round picks you have I mean I’ve seen Will Dawkins be aggressive and trade a guy like Dennia so why not trade a young guy in this roster that we have right now you want to be aggressive you want to be the re you want to take those uh moves to be those ex that’s what separates great GMs from the decent and average GMs the ones that make those aggressive moves like Will Dawkins has done in the past so I’m excited pick six pick 18 i know for sure now after looking at that report Ben that there’s going to be a trade up or or trade down scenario one of the two is going to happen there’s going to be activity on draft night and Lenel said that should be the expectation and he hit the nail on the head with that one whether it’s them moving up from the six pick to get one of these guys that they have their eyes on or it comes later in the draft moving up from 18 uh to get back into the lottery and maybe you get your guy like Derek Queen or somebody else at that point in this draft depending on who is on the board i mean everything’s going to depend on how the board falls and I think the Wizards have been active on the phones right now not necessarily because they’re going to make the move right at this time but I think it’s going to be part of the you know they’re trying to establish these conversations with some of these franchises whether it’s franch uh whether it’s sorry Utah Charlotte or you know the teams that are picking up there in the lottery San Antonio who got a call about the second pick in Philadelphia of course at number three uh the Wizards are just trying to see maybe what it’s going to take to move up come draft night and if the board you know falls a way that they want it or they see an opportunity to go get a player they want they’re going to know whether they have the assets or not to make that move because one of my favorite comments that we got on yesterday’s video uh where we talked about Ace Bailey falling at six and whether or not there’d be concerns from that because why would a player like Ace Bailey who at one time seemed like the consensus third best player in this draft fall to that point and would there be concerns with him and someone said hey man don’t look a gift horse in the mouth just take Ace Bailey at six if he’s there like you you can’t pass up that opportunity and I you know I tend to agree with that and if Ace Bailey is the guy that will Dawkins really wants and if this is a situ situation where Bailey has created this smoke around himself or his camp has created it because he wants to be a Washington Wizard then I’m all for going up there and trying to get him because I think even with the smoke that’s surrounding him like I said yesterday I don’t buy that he would be there at six i think somebody else would either trade up there to get him or any of the teams that are between three four and five whether it’s Philadelphia Utah or Charlotte one of those teams would take him i just think he’s too talented and has too much potential as a player in this league to pass up on so if that’s the guy that Washington’s going to go after or it’s Trey Johnson I’d be through the roof and I’m just I’m elated right now just thinking about it how we have a GM that is going to be willing or willing to show aggression at this point here in the draft process and that’s just something that we we didn’t have here in DC at all the previous regimes of Grumfeld and Shepard it was never trying to go out there and make that aggressive move and that’s just another thing that I love about Will Dawkins talk about him and people questioning his decisions and whatnot people give him slack for how he trained how he handled the whole Bradley Bill situation looking back on it I’m telling you right now for those of you listening we won this trade especially with those pick swaps when they come in like we’ve been saying day by day Phoenix is falling apart so come draft night a lot of things are going to happen we’re going to be covering it and we’re going to cover every inch of it because it’s going to be exciting and for me the idea that Ace Bailey could potentially be a Wizard on top of that even landing a guy in Trey Johnson it’s just it’s amazing and and just goes back to h having this young core in Washington and eventually building that championship team all right let’s take a quick time out this has been a lot to unpack so far but a great scoop brought to you by our guy Lenel Willingham and he was active bringing us even more details lenel was scooping so deep into the Wizards pre-draft process you would have thought he was at BaskinRobins we now have some new insight on who has worked out with the Wizards we give it to you next this is Locked on Wizards lollipop is a new kind of soda made for people who love the classic drink.com/lockedonba to claim your free can and findop near you that’s drinkallipop.com/lockedonba welcome back to Locked on Wizards ben Schroerber alongside Abdullah Aayub we’ve been getting down to the business here as we approach the NBA draft next Wednesday we’re getting excited and we’ve got some new intel here courtesy of our guy Lenel Willingham this guy’s been feeding us feeding us all this information here for this edition of Lockdown Wizards and now we’ve got the details of who has walked out with the Wizards and Lenell reports that according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation the Wizards have worked out with Kaman Malawatch out of Duke Trey Johnson out of Texas Jeremiah Fears out of Oklahoma Dylan Cardwell out of Auburn and VJ Edgecomb out of Baylor all right Abdullah so as we start to unpack some of this there’s a couple of household names on here for Wizards fans that we’ve been talking about for really the past month or so uh including Trey Johnson who you and I are you know running to the podium and preaching to the choir that we want guy in DC right here but then you got a guy like Kaman Malawatch in there and could that be that guy that the Wizards are looking to be aggressive towards maybe if they’re moving up from 18 uh to get him if he maybe drops to around the 10 to 12 range uh I wanted to get your initial thoughts on what you’ve seen or what you hear when you uh when you see some of these names that have worked out with the Wizards here yeah know it was an interesting group of names malawatch a guy that we’ve been talking about for a while where if you pair him up with Alex Sar could be a really really good defensive back court offensively didn’t really do much at Duke but if you consider the fact that he was playing with Khan Caniple and Cooper Flax so it’s kind of hard to get some of that uh shine on him but playing in the premier prestigious league in our team in at Duke it just goes to show that he can do it at the highest level of college basketball and hopefully that game his game will translate and pick 18 if he’s if he falls out of the lottery and a lot of people are thinking that he’s going to go before Derek Queen but Derek Queen goes before him and you really really love Malawatch I say go up and why not trade up from 18 again I always mention that we have the draft capital you have the assets trey Johnson’s a guy that I freaking I love man we’ve been saying it for a while like SEC competition brightest stages three level score size is great and he just seems like a genuine dude saw some of the interviews a very funny guy i think his personality would mesh well here in in Washington jeremiah fears i mean let’s be real guys i’m I’m not we’re not I’m not the highest on him bring up the fact of highest boom bus pot candidate out of all these draft prospects who knows maybe this guy could be the the next John Wall when it comes to being a playmaker but the jump shot concerns it just shooting sub 30% it’s a little concerning for me and I just at six essentially too I think it’s too high take a guy like him maybe maybe just maybe if you trade back i I don’t know i’m just not the biggest fan of him and uh VJ Edgecom I don’t think he’ll be there i think he’ll he’s going to be taking the top five but his two-way ability is awesome and Dylan Cardwell is a guy we don’t talk about much but I I I I can’t wait and I don’t know if it is it a a big deal Ben i was going to ask you is because if Ace Bailey isn’t on this list or do you think that’s just something that hey the Wizards know he’s not going to go in the top five he has he hasn’t worked out with anybody which is the bizarre po part of all this so you know I don’t know what that really means in terms of his draft process i don’t know if the Wizards have met or discussed with him anything behind the scenes but I don’t feel it’s as likely the Wizards take a player that didn’t work out with him but you know we’ll have to see i actually have a little bit more court courtesy of our guy Troy Hallebertton on Twitter uh he says that Fierce Johnson and Kenipol did individual workouts in DC derek Queen was part of a group workout and the Wizards were apparently really secretive with the Fears workout that it was done at Georgetown and not the practice facility so that nobody saw it and he said at the end of this tweet “Do what you will with this sourced information.” So I’m reporting that here just based on what I saw from him on Twitter and I guess we can let everyone speculate what that means but Khan Caniple uh the the the smoke is starting to go around with him because there are some people in his mentions right now Halleurn’s mentions that is uh saying that I don’t want him at six i think he’s a good player but I don’t think taking him at six makes much sense and he said he won’t even be there at six so you don’t have to worry about it but if the Wizards are indeed high in a guy like that that would be really interesting because I don’t know if the Wizards would really be willing to risk assets to trade up to get him but Hallebert right here suggesting that maybe he’s a guy that is going to go in the top five and I’m just not sure how I feel about that yeah that’s um a really interesting take from our boy Hala Burn that opens up the shakes up the draft uh mock drafts everything if that happens because at the end of the day no one I thought that conquer nipple was going to be a top five pick maybe the him the idea of him being elite scorer and will translate in the NBA is a big reason why people would love him fit with Charlotte pair him up with LaMelo Ball Brandon Miller Utah I guess maybe fits well there with all the young guys they have there I just don’t and again I think it’s immature if you’re a basketball fan saying that he’s Cory Kissper 2.0 I think that’s very outrageous i think Keniple is a three-level scorer the size is better taking to the rim he can do that better than Cory Kisser especially coming out of college and the situations that he was in the guy stepping up when Cooper flag went down with injury it’s just it’s absurd and I I gotta go back i I actually I I read that report wrong i didn’t think ace so ace Bailey hasn’t worked out with anybody it that’s okay so that makes sense i thought it was just like few of the teams in top five but not working out with anybody is definitely I’m scratching my head now you know what I want to circle back to you uh mentioning Khan Kipple getting the Cory Kissper how many is every white dude in the draft going to get this comparison that is Cory what like what is this are we going to say every like and you’ll be compared to Cory Kissper Austin Reeves and such well I I just I don’t understand it we can’t just say that about every white player in the draft come on come on that’s so lazy that’s so lazy conanipple actually has the skills to be a pretty good playmaker in the league i I think he you know is maybe a little bit undervalued here for what he’s worth to call him Cory Kisper 2.0 that’s that’s bizarre i don’t understand that but you know if you’re really against that or you really don’t like him comment and tell me why but calling him Corey Kisser 2.0 that’s crazy to me yeah it’s very very lazy but Wizards fans they always have interesting takes but let me ask you this Ben out of at least Wizards just in general in the NBA is it like a very high percentage chance that they’re going to draft the guy that they work out with i’m assuming i’d be willing to bet honestly but I don’t know with Ba Bay Bailey might be a rare exception at this point and I don’t really know what’s happening uh you know behind the scenes i don’t know if there’s any conversations that are going on between the Wizards and Ace Bailey or what that has been like involved in this treat uh pre-draft process because I just don’t really see it as a possibility where the Wizards would want to take somebody that they haven’t worked out with i think that’s been a huge part of you know reasons why they’ve fallen in love with some of the players they have that have uh influence them to make moves in the draft to go around and get them but I don’t know ace Bailey is a becoming a polarizing prospect at this point a amongst a lot of executives and scouts who are saying there’s too many red flags with this guy uh you know obviously great talent so much potential through the roof but the red flags might be too much to deal with i don’t know where the Wizards stand on this and given that we’re you know now a front office that seems to take things like that really seriously I don’t know when it’s going to be if I had to take a guess I think the Wizards might trade up to get Trey Johnson at this point at this point because I think that’s a guy that would bring such a dynamic to this offense that the Wizards haven’t had in quite some time and I think he he checks the boxes for what they’re looking for a guy uh that can stretch the floor from beyond the arc he has now worked out with them played against tough SEC competition i think if he’s a guy that they want to trade up for at this point go ahead and do it everybody I think in Wizards Nation the DC family would be ecstatic to see that that if Trey Johnson’s a wizard come draft night great draft just off that doesn’t matter who you take at 18 the fact that you land one of the best players of the SEC as a freshman the way he scored will that Texas team I definitely will see his game translate to NBA level all right well we’re going to take one more time out here on Lockdown Wizards when we get back here for the final segment we’re going to talk a little bit more about Abdullah’s guy Danny Wolf and why he might be someone that we see Washington go after come draft night we’ll be back with that next here on Lockdown Wizards did you call bank no I called game that’s what Paul Pierce said after he banked in his Game Time app today last minute tickets low price guarantee welcome back one final segment of Lockdown Wizards ben Strober alongside Abdullah Aubi we’re going to talk a little bit about Danny Wolf a guy that Abdullah made the claim remember the name Danny Wolf uh part of the I I could say the two big dudes the two big towers for Michigan this year that tortured my Maryland ter there’s my Maryland mention right there abdullah i was going to say Ben you very familiar with Danny Wolf huh i am very familiar with him but I know he’s a guy that you’re super high on so I want to get your thoughts right here and why you think he could be an intriguing prospect here for Washington yeah so a guy that I’ve been talking about for a while i think his playmaking ability at his size is just very rare it’s so easy to say Nicole Joic but I mean in today’s NBA if you can get a center at a sevenfooter that can shoot pass the ball defensively be decent that’s what we love to see and Danny Wolf shooting shooting splits not the best but definitely again could work on it and translate into the NBA i think the playmaking it would be awesome especially if you can somehow maybe slide him or Sar to the four and five and they can be interesting front court duo that could complement each other really really well i think also breeding competition with him and Tristan Vuvich and Alex Sar i think that that’s that’s that’s that would be great and the him we saw him in the biggest stages going up against really good teams in Maryland and trying to uh dominate i think he did that at a great level but the shooting concerns is one thing and a lot of people say he’s slow defensively but if you’re the Wizards right now you have guys in Bal Koulali Alex Sarser not not Alex Sar not every player has to be an elite elite first team all defensive type of player but it I don’t think he’s that bad of a defender as people make it out to be i think the size is definitely going to help out in his favor and if he’s there at 18 I think he will be especially if you don’t trade um up I think he’s the option that you can take at 18 also Niki Clifford out of Colorado State is a guy that I really like too but Danny Wolf I think when it comes to especially needing depth on this team in the power forward center position he could be a guy that could address that i like Danny Wolf and one reason that I really am intrigued by him potentially being a Wizard is because what he was able to do at Michigan with another really talented big player alongside of him Vladislav Golden i mean those two together were so dominating and so overwhelming the way they were able to use their size to take over games it was frustrating in the Big 10 tournament watching those guys against Maryland going up against Derek Queen uh and Joan Ree and and those guys had their way down there in the painted area and I think if you take a guy like Danny Wolf and pair him alongside Alex Sar I think who has maybe somewhat similar skill set to a guy like Golden I think those two worked really well together so I think what it’s proven that we see right here with Wolf is that he works really well when he has another talented center that can take some of the weight off his shoulders or another talented big because I think in this case A Alex Sar uh would be playing more of a five position with Danny Wolf i don’t know things would have to kind of shape together but maybe it’d be kind of interchangeable with the two of those guys being like a four or five hybrid role but I’d like to see how the two could develop together and establish rapport because I think the one thing that’s very important about this draft for the Wizards as they do get a big guy to pair alongside Alex Sar and you know we’ll we’ll see how that kind of influences the development of Sar if that makes him into more of a cornerstone piece for this franchise or if the guy they pair alongside him could be another really talented option that can defend the rim well get rebounds or even just provide some elite scoring like we saw at Danny Wolf at the college game so that’s kind of what intrigues me the most about him yeah i again doing it at the college level and the potential of him and Sar I think is really really eye opening but if you’re the Wizards maybe there might be a if Niki Clifford is there a guy that I really like like I mentioned if it’s between him and Wolfe I think they might just because Nikki Clifford I think is so NBA ready danny Wolf is definitely going to be some transition but I think also a sevenfooter with again passing like skills and being able to dish the ball just it’s very rare especially at uh playing it at a high level and he did it in Michigan and we saw it firsthand you mentioned being a Maryland fan tor to torching Maryland so I wouldn’t I wouldn’t mind it at all and if you’re will Dawkins again I love breeding competition that’s the biggest thing especially as a young team right now you want to figure out who are the dogs and who are the going to be the ones come down the line of a championship team willing to sacrifice their body and bringing competition with those guys with him tristan Vuvich Alex Sar and maybe there’s some other guy out there free agency that you might get rashawn Holmes you bring him back it’s a lot of questions to be asked and figured out come this off seasonason but Danny Wolf at 18 is a pick that I love and we’ll just come have to see if I I don’t think he’s going to be taken before 18 i think there’s going to be a lot of guys are going to go in front of him i don’t know how far he’s going to get but I definitely think he’s going to be a firstrounder and late first rounder is in my opinion if he if Washington does pass up on him I really hope he doesn’t come back to bite us it’s exciting to even think about things like this abdullah we have one more episode to go this week of lockdown Wizards and then we’re in NBA draft week and we’re going to be all things NBA draft i think we’re going to plan on going live during the draft doing something a way to interact with you guys who have been really awesome to say the least we really appreciate everyone who has been commenting on all of our videos letting us know your thoughts who have been active in the live stream and uh you know shout out to everyone who’s you know intrigued the ideas that we should do something live for the NBA draft i think it’s something that we’re definitely going to try to work out here maybe do a weekly Q&A thing that’s something that’s been uh proposed to us as well uh but yeah shout out to all of you listeners who have been sticking with us here our first two weeks together Abdullah and I on the beat here for lockdown Wizards and with the NBA draft next week couldn’t be more excited to hear that we have some aggression potentially coming from our front office yeah I got to say one more thing if the Wizards somehow land Trey Johnson just know Ben I’m going to be hitting the douge like John Waller did his rookie year i’m going to be on the stream i’m going to become a mid-stream if Adam Silver once I hear Trey Johnson guard Texas six pick Washington you know I’m about to hit it man i Oh my good it again he’s he’s a guy that I really really wanted for a while and the fact that you can get him at six and after not having the the most luck out of that draft lottery and being able to end him at six would just be a miracle all right that does it though for this episode here of Lockdown Wizards thank you for making Lockdown ITS ACE BAILEY OR BUST TO ME🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Why are you so infatuated with Queen? He can’t shoot he’s undersized and not a great athlete. Alot of the same things you point out for Fears can be pointed out for queen.
I've been saying this all year, Tre Johnson and Derik Queen. If you can't get Queen with pick 10… Maxime Raynaud. Maxime is the second most skilled big in the draft.
Let's move 6 18 and Bilal to the sixers for 3
Jeremiah fears is the way to go exceptional talent and ball skills we need him
Take Fears at 6 and the best big man at 18 if you can move to get the big you want
The wizards don’t have to trade up. Ace Bailey tray Johnson, one of them will be available.
Kon is it accurate comparison to Corey Kispert. It’s not a white guy, thing, size height, and talent potential. He is no Corey Kispert yet.
Why stress…
Queen at 6, Fleming at 18
Stay @6 or trade DOWN!! Only trade up from #18.
Not worth trading up unless its in the top 2.
The biggest problem we have is rebounding and y’all want maluach so bad? Lol. I’m glad wiz fans are not GMs. The 7’2 big that averages 6boards while the guy y’all call “undersized” is 1 rebound shy of averaging a double double is talked down on from wiz fans? Lmfaoo.
There are a few nice big men in this draft that can fit with Alex.
For what to give away assets for a pick they should have anyway except the rigged nba screwed them. Worst team and get a whopping 14 % chance. F U
Stay at 6. Trade up from 18 if it makes sense but only 3 or 4 spots and offer up a player we don't need for the value of the spot. Don't over spend.
How often has any player in the 21st century actually wanted to be a Washington wizard? If ace legit wants to be here. Trade up and get him.
I want FEARS
pretty clear Dawkins and Sarr’s agent had some handshake deal to avoid the Hawks last year. could the same be happening with Bailey? if i’m Bailey, I wouldn’t want to go to 76ers, Hornets, or Utah for shot competition and other factors. DC has to be his top landing spot in the top 6.
Kispert is horrible and if we could move him to move up, oh Hell yeah.
As usual, no one is saving us, so we gotta save our own asses. Dawkins knew this when he took the job.
