Whats Up With Spurs Juan Nunez?
what’s going on everyone so one player we haven’t really heard about that kind of curious about you know maybe something’s on the horizon maybe once we get to the actual offseason maybe we’ll actually hear some more uh news and updates on him um but it’s the 36th pick in last year’s draft um that the Spurs traded to go get as a stash player right draft and stash type guy and that is Juan Nunees right talking about Spanish you know point guard looked at as like this just will and deal slice and dice type a point guard more traditional type of point guard right 21 years old just literally just turned 21 so still very young now this isn’t something where they have to bring him in now all right like they as soon as this season they they very well could kind of be patient with him give him another year or two but you know there’s also a genuine argument of like hey get him up get him into the program get him into your system especially if you’re going to lose Chris Paul right like maybe you go maybe he’s the guy that’s coming in as like your second or third center or uh point guard right cuz right now assuming that they draft a Dylan Harper I imagine you’re going to have Dylan Harper operate as your point guard at times off the bench right be the guy that has the ball in his hands a good majority of the time however it would be nice to have that other guard and also like what are you going to do with him period right if if you have Stfan Castle De’aran Fox and Dylan Harper and those three guys are going to be your primary ball handlers and the ball’s always going to be in one of their hands then maybe you look to find a team that is willing to take Juan Nunees and say “Hey here you go does he maybe get included in one of these trades right a Kevin Durant trade you have the the maybe that is another pot sweetener right hey here’s a you know 21-year-old point guard that you need here’s a 21-year-old point guard or find one of these teams that could use like a more traditional point guard cuz there are questions about Juan Nunees coming in from last year’s draft you know as far as just him translating to the NBA level he is a sizable he’s 6’4 190 pounds but the defense is he going to be able to defend at an NBA level you got to be able to defend you got to have that pace and space you got to be able to look at Indiana and Oklahoma City right two teams that they just have an abundance of athletic guards they’re running three four guard units and all this stuff lineups out there so you know you there are questions about him translating to the NBA level in the modern game where this was 10 years ago he’d probably already be on a Spurs roster right because he’s a guy that again could be that that you know Ricky Rubio type of player it’s kind of what he’s looked at it’s kind of how he’s perceived but he’s a guy that’s played in a you know tough one of the tougher leagues in the world that has had success in that regard so when do you start looking to bring him up again maybe that’s this season maybe you know Chris Paul departs it’s like well hey we have an easy Chris Paul replacement and a Juan Nunes i also think it depends on what the Spurs actually do right if they end up landing Kevin Durant are they really going to add more young guys on top of Dylan Harper and everything else are they going to start looking to use guys like Awan Nunees and other picks and whatnot to go land other pieces to put around Kevin Durant De’aran Fox and Victor Wimyama that’s kind of my guess so I would imagine that they’re probably going to wait till the official offseason till after the draft kind of see where are they at what have they gotten have they gotten anything have did they trade the 14th pick did they keep the 14th pick did they trade the second pick did they keep the second pick which you know we all expect them to keep the second pick but you never know something crazy could end up happening never know until you’re there um but point is is that I would I would imagine once we get through this draft finished with this draft then we’ll start to hear a little bit of news a little bit of buzz I would hope about Juan Nunees cuz I was like it just honestly it just randomly I was just you know going through the Spurs team and roster kind of you know piecing things together for videos and stuff like that i was like what what’s going on with Juan Nunees right looked them up tried to see is there any like news on Spurs potentially bringing them in the last like report that I saw was from Pounding the Rock and it was back on February 28th 2025 and it’s just kind of like checking in on him it wasn’t like it wasn’t oh they’re planning on bringing him in next year it wasn’t it’s just it’s just kind of you know hey here’s what he’s doing right now he’s basically playing basketball and slowly developing over time but you know he he’s he might be a lot in a lot of ways what this team needs if you go if you don’t land a so if they don’t get a Kevin Durant and they don’t trade for a Jaylen Brown and a Giannis Antmpo and all that stuff like cuz there talks about them like if they miss out on a Kevin Durant they may go look at a Giannis or Jaylen Brown if you go that route then you’re basically all in right of those guys you’re not going to go trade for a 37y old and spend two three years carving this team out you’re not you’re not doing that with you know uh uh uh Jaylen Brown you’re not doing that with a Victor Women none of these guys you’re going to go trade for and then just sit on your hands for three years with them right so in that case I I would imagine they either trade the rights to to Nunez to one of these other teams maybe try to flip them into a a future second or something or um kind of keep them stashed a little longer until it’s like hey we really need you know let’s see how guys develop oh we really need a point guard bring him in you know once he’s gotten a little more age to him right kind of tell them like “Hey these are the things that we want you to work on these are the things that we need you to get better at right because I imagine they’re still on top of them still kind of monitoring what he’s doing overseas right but if you go and continue to go the youth route then I would look to bring him in this off season cuz what do you got to lose if if you’re if you don’t get Kevin Durant and then you don’t go trade for Giannis and a Jaylen Brown and you’re riding with Wimby Castle you know Dylan Harper all all your young guys it’s like hey doing another year of just development with guys and you lose a Chris Paul great way to kind of get that that true playmaking supplement would be to bring in Juan Nunes because the best way for him to get the development and and feel with the team is to be with the team right like what’s the best way for him and Wimi to build that relationship to where he’s operating and you know they’re working on the pick and roll and Wimy’s the lob threat and you know they’re building that rapport together it’s kind of hard when one guy’s in one country and the other guy’s in another but if they’re on the same team and they’re working together they’re getting minutes together and they’re getting reps together in practice and you know all of that then yeah then yeah at that point you do that i I wonder if the Spurs bring him in to like the the you know summer league team right do they bring him in to kind of go get a look at him in that regard and then kind of maybe make their decision from there they bring him into the camp i I just cuz I mean at some point granted it’s only been a year and he is still young he’s 21 years old but at some point you’d imagine you want to bring him in sooner rather than later i just can just kind of letting him chill for two three years it’s like especially when he could potentially be a a piece of need and wouldn’t you want to find out sooner rather than later if he’s a guy that you want around for the long haul right can he play at an NBA level can he defend at an NBA level can he shoot and score at an NBA level or is he just basically a distributing point guard that’s like “Ah you know we we need more two-way guys and let another team try to figure it out right do you end up trading him do you end up unloading him in a package do you try to flip him for another second round pick to kind of kick the can down the road especially if you’re not going to bring him in for another year or two right then you might as well try to turn him into you know a future second or something where you know you’re you’re getting at least now that’s a tradable asset later on down the road or it’s a guy you’re drafting later on down the road that maybe is more ready now that fits and makes more sense now I just kind of I’m hoping for some updates in regards to to Juan Nunees i mean look if we don’t get anything and it’s like they just keep him i mean we’ve lots of teams and Spurs have done that right where they’ve had a guy stashed for four years five years sometimes they just never bring him over right but you’d imagine at some point you’d want to because he was a guy that was looked at as like oh wow that was a great pickup for the Spurs right kind of a Spurs guy a guy that you know many thought could even go in the first round i like and now not going to see him but anyway as always this is a discussion pass question on you let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments that being said if you haven’t liked this video hit that like button helps me The San Antonio Spurs drafted and stashed Juan Nunez from Spain last year but this year no word so far on what is the plan. Juan could be excellent slotted alongside Victor Wembanyama. spurs adding a solid playmaking guard could be great.

From an article dated May 19, 2025 Unfortunately, it looks like he ruptured his right knee's lateral meniscus in March, with an expected recovery and rehab timeline of 6 months. So it looks like he will not take part in either the Spurs' 2025 Summer League or Spain's 2025 EuroBasket tournament.
This is an interesting coverage. What are they going to do with Juan Nunez? Why did they draft him? Very interesting…..
I was actually excited about him when we drafted him .. see how he would develop for us until … BOOM.. all of a sudden we get castle fox and potentially and hopefully Harper .. all this happened in a quick minute… so now .. who knows bout this kid
They are eventually going to either trade him or wave him. The reality is that we already have a log Jam with Fox, Harper and Castle
Wemby-Sochan-Castle-FOX + the 3&D we get (Trey Murphy?) are the core for 5 years.
Blake Wesley is one of our b/u PG.
