Things Just Lined Up PERFECTLY for the Sixers… | NBA Draft News

everything is falling perfectly into place as we are just a few days away now from the NBA draft coming to fruition and all the smoke all the noise this past week has been about Ace Bailey and basically his camp not wanting him to come to Philadelphia declares a lack of path to stardom seems like he doesn’t want to be on in the Philadelphia market he wants to be on the East Coast between Atlanta and New York last time I checked the map that’s Philadelphia but it’s mixed signals are being thrown out there that Ace Bailey does not want to be here sounds like his camp wants anywhere but Philadelphia he’ll be throwing out the first pitch for the New York Mets even on Tuesday night phillies and Mets have a big series this weekend just an odd sequence of events and I’m not sure it’s entirely on Ace and AC’s fault but AC’s camp more so but I think things are kind of falling perfectly into place there’s been a lot of smoke about who the Philadelphia 76ers want with this third pick trading up trading back but it seems like more and more each day that goes by that the pick is going to be VJ Edgecom at number three we’re going to get into a mock draft today that has the Sixers picking Edgecom at three and then another player at number 35 in the second round who I think falls perfectly into the plans for next year’s team as well but in this episode I kind of wanted to touch base on if they do wind up selecting Edgecom which sitting here on Friday night I probably put that at a 90% chance and I probably put 10% Ace Bailey if they sit and pick at three i’d be shocked at this point if it’s Trey Johnson in the mix malawatch Conanipple any of those other guys i still put a 10% chance out there that it’s Ace and the Philadelphia 76ers are maybe sending a bulk of these smoke screens out because they want someone to trade up potentially to get them um or maybe just Ace is their guy and they’re they’re they don’t want to reveal that at this moment they’re trying to maybe increase their value maybe even drop back a spot or two um and still be able to get him who knows there could be some smoke screens sitting here on Friday night I put it at a 90% chance that the pick at number three if the Sixers are selecting there indeed is VJ Edgecom the shooting guard out of Baylor and then with the second pick uh that first pick in the second round excuse me for the 76ers we’ll get into that as well but I kind of wanted to go over what the roster could look like what the rotation could look like if these two draft picks from this latest mock draft from PhillyVoice.com are indeed the picks for the 76ers team next year because as we said everything is really kind of falling into place now you’re maybe dodging a major bullet with some major character concerns with Ace Bailey seems like VJ Edgecom from his workout really impressed the Sixers not just on the court but off the court as well so let’s get into this latest mock draft and have a big overview kind of what the Sixers rotation could look like if they do go in this direction next week on Wednesday night here it is the Philly voice mockdraft pick number three has them selecting BJ Edgecom here you see a shooting guard out of Baylor no change here says Adam Rison as the more as more word emerges out of Philadelphia and Camden the stronger the sense gets that Edgecom will be the pick at number three late on Wednesday night news broke that Ace Bailey had called off his visit and work out with the Sixers at the last minute there should be real skepticism about this about this preventing the Sixers from drafting him if they view the Ruckers as a star um as the best player available but we we have seen you know before as well with the Sixers they didn’t bring in Tyrese Maxi and they didn’t bring in Jared McCain for pre-draft workouts either and they would still wind up selecting both of those guys and we’ve seen how you know that’s worked out i I don’t think it’s the final nail in the coffin that Ace Bailey will not be a Sixer with him not coming in for the workout but it just seems more and more like the Sixers have gone kind of away from that and everything positive and everything glowing has been VJ Edgecom it’s probably to the point where I’d be shocked if VJ Edgecom is not the Philadelphia 76ers pick there at number three so you slide him into a pretty crowded back court already you have to assume Quinton Grimes is back but then you throw him in there with uh with Jeremy McCain and Tyrese Maxi as well but VJ Edgecom kind of does a little bit of everything and I think he gives the 76ers some really good potential versatile lineups we’ll get into that when we break down the entirety of the roster and what the rotation will look like if these two picks are indeed the picks for the 76ers next season but as we get closer and closer to the draft it sounds like they’re going to take you know the athletic high-flying shooting guard here in Edgecomb out of Baylor and does he come off the bench uh right away does he does he find himself right in the starting lineup sure that remains to be seen but he’s viewed as a high upside guy with good character um and kind of you know the opposite of what we’ve been hearing of Ace Bailey in recent weeks at least um I’m still an Ace fan i’m a really big believer in his talent but I do think his situation is kind of dependent on how good he can be at the NBA level like if he goes to a Washington or a Charlotte I think those are bad situations for him i thought Philadelphia was a perfect situation where he can continue to develop and then take over as that kind of lead score maybe in two three years down the line be that kind of 1B next to next to a Tyresese Maxi as a 1A um if he goes and he has to produce you know and he has to take 20 shots a game as a rookie in Washington and Charlotte I think he’s going to struggle and that’s probably the downfall of his NBA career before it really even gets started i think Edgecom while not maybe the best overall fit you look at the Thunder and the Pacers I keep going back to this the depth and the amount of guards that they’re able to throw out there on a nightly basis I think is what has gotten them this far and I think the 76ers should be you know happy with this pick i think fans should be happy with this pick if it does get to this rate all right with the second pick in the draft um of the Sixers draft at least their their second round pick the Adam from the Philly Voice has him selecting Drake Powell shooting guard small forward out of North Carolina now you might say “All right why are we taking this guy?” kind of the same position here as Edgecomb you read the little blurb on this this still feels like it’s near the lower end of Pal’s range particularly after a jarring number of high-profile collegiate returners who would have otherwise been available in this region of of the board but Pal fits the Sixers mold perfectly from his dynamic athleticism to his significant preol pedigree you know another high regarded college recruit didn’t have the most you know successful season at North Carolina this past year averaged north of seven points per game about three and a half rebounds shot 38% from three but he’s kind of that in that mold of that three and D wing and then what and what sticks out to me most is the sentence at at the end here where it says pal fits the Sixers mold perfectly from his dynamic athleticism to his significant pre-ol pedigree you look at guys that the 76ers have picked over the past few years whether it is Tyrese Maxi a former high highly rated recruit Jerry McCain taking the chance last year on Justin Edwards and seeing that pan out as well bringing a guy like Lonnie Walker who was a you know a collegiate one and done at Miami a former five-star McDonald’s all-American se 76ers I think scouting department fully believes in getting these players potentially into a better situation will help kind of untap and unlock some of that potential i think could see some of that with Drake Pal here now would Drake Pal be the pick for me probably not if you’re going to be taking a VJ Edcom I’m probably going more towards the front court because they still have a glaring need at the four especially with Gershan Yabuselli most likely walking out the door i’m probably targeting a four or a five in this selection but the main goal of the offseason for the 76ers and Daryl my what he said was to get younger and more athletic and Drake Powell certainly fits that description that mold right there for sure so if those two guys are the pick you figure both of these players are in the rotation next year let’s look at the potential rotation for the 76ers um going into next season i think you can you can definitely slot in Tyrese Maxi and Joel Embiid in your starting lineup you know given that they’re both healthy then kind of the the question goes where do you go from there paul George obviously will be in the starting lineup due to his cap number then what is your what do you kind of want to look like after that i think you can definitely pencil in those those three as starters joel Embiid Tyres Maxi Paul George do you slide VJ Edgecom in there from a starting role from day one do you put Jared McCain in the starting lineup personally I think Jared McCain would be better suited coming off the bench i think that would probably fit him best can the 76ers get a cheap four out on the free agent market maybe to slide in and just you know be a place filler kind of in the starting lineup and be that 16 to 20 minutes per game guy and then for a bulk of your rotation you’re kind of rotating between Grimes Maxi um VJ Edgecomb Jired McCain I think Jire McCain probably best suited out of this lineup out of this rotation be coming off the bench kind of be that spark plug if you had to make me kind of pick my starting five if the pick is Drake Powell in the second round and VJ Edgecom in the first I’m probably going Tyres Maxi at the one Edgecomb/g Grimes at the two you know whoever else between those two vice versa at the three paul George at the four and Embiid at the five you’re a little bit smaller you’re you’re undersized you’re probably going to struggle on the the defensive glass you’re probably not going to be that great on the offensive glass but it’s a team that I think is going to be a versatile offensive lineup be able to get up and down the score and score the basketball you’re probably going to have you know not the best defense in the league not the best rebounding team but I think it’s going to be a fun brand of basketball an exciting brand kind of maybe even model potentially after what the Pacers do really get up and down the floor and rotate those guards have a good four guards that you can consistently be rotating in the game there kind of as your starter so so if we’re bringing Jeremy Kane off the bench in that sense you’re going to have Kelly Ubé as well most likely coming back off the bench justin Edwards after a really impressive year coming off the bench dembona probably your backup you know right away and then who are your guys maybe getting kind of your junk minutes lonnie Walker I think is in the mix there jared Butler I think potentially could be back kyle Lowry it sounds like will be back how much is he going to be playing how much is he going to be dependent on remains to be seen um but I really think your kind of main eight your main core is your Tyrese Maxi your Jared McCain your VJ Edgecomb your Quinton Grimes your Paul George your Joel Embiid your Demona uh Lonnie Walker Justin Edwards and Kelly Ubé that’s probably your your 10 main players that you’re going to be rotating in obviously we saw with the Sixers last year depth was a major concern and probably the main downfall kyle Lowry I think can give you spot minutes we’ll see what Eric Gordon and Andre German if those guys are back but sure they can give you spot minutes on a given night jared Butler could give you minutes on a given night but I think your kind of main rotation there is that top 10 and you know put a you know hand to the Bible whatever you want to say i put that top 10 when fully healthy up against basically any rotation there in the Eastern Conference and I think the 76ers could make a legit run have a legit case to be you know the team to to represent the Easts here obviously it all depends on Joel Embiid’s health his Nate this is a major if team you know what if what if what if I didn’t even include Drake Powell in the rotation there maybe he’s a more of a developmental guy um can can maybe get into some minutes later as the year goes on or see kind of the development path of a Justin Edwards of a Drake Powell maybe you look to move a guy like Kelly Ubé and maybe get that upgrade at the fourth um a lot remains to still be seen but if this is kind of is a selection of a you know a hyper athletic wing like a Drake Powell and then a hyper athletic combo guard type wing with with VJ Edgecom I think that’s a lot what your Sixers rotation could look like and I really like that you know rotation of four guards between a Maxi and Edgecom Grimes and a Jared McCain they all bring something different to the table tyrese Maxi his quick ability first step his ability to shoot from beyond the arc jar McCain showed you know a lethal shooting ability last year quinton Grimes showed you a little bit of everything i think VJ Edgecom kind of like Quinton Grimes probably more athletic and not definitely not as polished as a shooter right now but a hyper you know athletic guy that that’s going to be able to defend going to be really fun in transition I think kind of fits in that mix of those four guards that by giving you a little bit of everything and could make for some pretty fun rotations for the Sixers roster next year so I really do think things are starting to fall into place i’d say as of right now on Friday night 90% chance vj Edgecomb is that guy at number three maybe still a 10% chance at Ace Bailey by the time I wake up tomorrow might be a 955 but I’m to the point where I’d be very surprised if Ace Bailey hears his name called at three the Sixers are sticking and picking there and it’s not VJ Edge um in that scenario but let me know what you guys really kind of buttoned down to to VJ Edgecom here and then you’re either taking another wing who’s athletic like a Drake Powell or one of those front court guys um at that number 35 pick in the
