How Could The Bulls Front Office POSSIBLY Deserve Contract Extensions?
for years as bulls fans we have been begging bulls ownership to fire gar foreman and john paxton after years of disappointment frustration and a toxic culture that existed within the organization and then in 2020 after nearly two decades at the helm we finally got what we had all been dreaming a new front office new management an outside perspective and hopefully a change in the culture of the organization that has always been perceived as cheap shady in their dealings with the players and coaching staff to hopefully bring some respectability back to this franchise but here we are 5 years later and if we’re being honest with ourselves not a lot has changed sure when ak and mark everly first came in they made aggressive moves by trading for vuvich and signing lonzo caruso and demar de rozan aggressive moves the previous front office wouldn’t have dared to do but those aggressive moves in accelerating the bull’s timeline to try and win now of course did not work out and so far in ak’s tenure we’ve seen just one playoff appearance one playoff win and three straight playing appearances where they failed to advance into the playoffs from the playin tournament one winning season and a total record of 195 and 205 since taking over the franchise now to most organizations performance like that over the course of 5 years would mean you’re on the hot seat or hell you might even already be out of your job at that rate but not for the bulls not for jerry rindorf because ak more or less has done exactly what ownership wants to see from him not bottoming out have some exciting moments to keep the fans interested stay below the luxury tax and keep selling those tickets and merchandise and as such both arturus garner chauvis and mark eversley as we have recently learned are rewarded with contract extensions instead of putting them on notice to start turning things around and producing results ownership says “we want you to keep you guys around long term keep doing what you’re doing.” this of course comes after we learn that the bulls and billy donovan are in talks about a contract extension even though uh he still has one where you’re left on his deal but even though we often like to blame billy donovan for the bulls wolves and a lot of us are baffled that this man still has so much job security being the third longest tenure coach in the league despite other coaches having more success than him at the end of the day the results of the organization live at the front office and their ability to construct a roster properly a coach can only work with what’s been given to them and while i’ll still say that we should have expected more from billy donovan given the talent he had at his disposal even if it wasn’t the best overall roster fit the accountability again lies with the front office now this video is probably going to be short because to be honest i don’t really know what else to say other than the fact that while we shouldn’t be surprised because we know ownership hangs on to their executives for a long time while they may have cycled through coaches over the years gms is not something we see a high turnover in the bulls organization i mean since the 80s when the rhinorfs took over they’ve only had three major regimes jerry krauss of course then the garax era both of those switched roles for a period of time and now ak and mark eversley over 30 years and that’s it so we had to know going into this when they first hired ak and then ak hired mark eversley that this was going to be the front office for the long haul but at the same time even as much as we may have disliked krauss or john paxton even though there were some very bad years under their belt at some point in their tenure though we saw results krauss of course the six championships paxton when he first took over inherited a mess but made swift changes and brought the bulls back to the playoffs and then later of course would luck into derrick rose and bring the bulls back to contention even for a short while we haven’t seen anything like that from ak and not only that there hasn’t really seemed to be clarity on a direction a strategy going forward and look this is coming from someone who actually defends ak probably more than i should because there was an initial vision when the team in 2021 even though they had no backup plan and strategy after lonzo ball went down and yes when it comes to a front office unlike a head coach you obviously can’t cycle through them every 2 to 3 years because their job is all about building a long-term road map and as such they’re always afforded with some grace to see if their moves come to fruition but how do you not at least say “all right we’re giving you another year max two years to show us that things are heading on the right path.” and if we see more of the same thing more inaction more throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks more evidence that you don’t really know what the hell you’re doing then you’re out but instead the bulls are giving these guys an extension rewarding the mediocrity like if i’m 8k what’s the incentive to try and do better at my job if all i have to do is be average and they’ll keep rewarding me for it you’re rewarding a poor performance culture where as long as you’re just okay you’ll get to keep your job like what happened for striving for excellence in this game where you want to win at all costs having that competitive drive the passion for the game the prestige the status like yes i know we always talk about you know at least for ownership they just don’t care because michael jordan created a global brand for them and a welloiled machine that is going to continue to produce revenue for them in perpetuity regardless of how good or bad the team is but at the same time like does the front office in this case aka mark eversley did they not at least care about their own reputation their legacy and wanting to build a winning team do they just fall in line and say “all right this works i’ll just cash these checks and not have to really work hard.” i don’t know maybe i have too high of expectations because my mentality is all about winning winning not even for the fans or for the extra ticket sales but winning because it’s what you play the game for you play to win the game if you’ve lost that drive that motivation the goal to win then what are we even doing here so yeah i don’t get it i don’t understand the extension it’s not warranted and it’s quite frankly insulting to the fans as it’s a message that we’re okay with the status quo and what you see before you when we all know if this was any other team changes would be made by now anyway let me know what you guys think in all this let me know in the comments I think we will be better than what alot of people expect us to be with the east being wide open we can make a playoff push if we continue playing the way we did in the 2nd half of the season and these guys come back even better and hear me out i know the belief in PWill is basically gone but I believe he will be huge for us next season off the bench I got this feeling man PWill is going to have a MIP season 6thman of the year season

John Paxson i always felt like got mistreated by our fanbase. He was a solid GM. It was the Gar- Pax thing that was a disaster. I feel like we gonna look back at Pax differently as more time passes. Kinda like when the bears fired Jerry Angelo. He was a good GM that had terrible record drafting 1st rounders. After all the GMs we have had until ryan poles, we as a fan base realized that Angelo wasnt really that bad of a GM.

This is literally like having Bob Pulford and Bill Wirtz all over again, but it’s basketball. I mean Reinsdorf did buy the team from Aurthor Wirtz… so… Jerry must have liked the formula.

Ak's failures: Wasting the 4th pick on Patrick Williams, Using a first on Dalen Terry, Trading two firsts for Vuch, Trading Markkanen for pretty much nothing, Waiting until Lavine had no trade value to trade him, Refusing to trade Drummond for two seconds, Refusing to trade Vuch the last two deadlines, Doubling down and giving Patrick Williams a horrible contract extension, Passed on trading Lonzo for a first, and worst of all WILL NOT PICK A DIRECTION FOR THE TEAM.
Ak's successes: I guess the Caruso trade but he definitely could have gotten additional picks. Matas Buzelis has potential
Every other organization would have fired this man years ago. He's been absolutely horrible at his job. Jerry Reinsdorf truly is the worst owner in all of sports.

I sort of see the logic in the sense that the Bulls are trying to rebuild without tanking right now and dumping the FO just as that process is getting started never works out. If they were getting rid of AK they should have done it before the 2025 season. Dump him and get someone to start the rebuild. Right now the rebuild is started, you can't really change horses midstream at that point.
They needed there extensions to continue the continuity bulls.

The Bulls ownership are devaluing the Bulls brand and, by extention, the NBA has a whole. The Bulls are one of the most popular franchises in the world. I am not from the US but I am a Bulls fan. I watch the games every chance I get. I watch a lot less now because the Bulls suck and TV channels simply prefer to show other matches instead. The NBA should take ownership of the Bulls or force the current owners to sell it.
Michael Jordan's the reason why Jerry Reinsdorf is relevant…..just like Jimmy Johnson is the reason why Jerry Jones is relevant.
The ownership values relationships over winning. Bulls fans own loyalty is the catch 22 that keeps Reinsdorf in power. We sell out games, watch games, and buy merch. Since business is good why fix an unbroken business model?
They built a solid team that was hurt by injuries. They are still trying to build the 2nd team . I think bulls fans over react way too much. I use to think we had the most supportive fan base but that’s not true about 70% are so sour no matter what the bulls do. The only argument should be they waited too long to pivot to the 2nd team but they wanted to honor the players that were here and give them a chance to win. Having a player organization is better than what we had with John pax and players didn’t want to be here. Not every move a front office going to make will work that goes for every team. We need to just pump the brakes on all the hate .

The problem is the fans will not stop going to games. This what is wrong with Chicago sports supporting losers. Go ask the Cubs, White Sox, Bears about this BS.
However the thing saving them is how stupid Dallas and New York Knicks are. They are more stupid than the Bulls. If it was not for them the NBA media would speak about this.
If ownership can’t see that this current FO is either incompetent or lazy, then they really don’t care much about winning.
And if the ownership is only interested in making money, then they should realize they can make a heck of a lot more money by being relevant and having a winning team.
The problem I have with this FO is their inability to evaluate talent. Their very 1st draft pick was a #4 pick in the draft PWill. If you look at picks 5-30 you can easily find 10 players that has developed into solid starters in the NBA and some All-Stars, All NBA, playoff contributors. Several earning max extensions.
This FO drafted a player at #4 that wasn’t even a starter on his college team and he only played 1 year of college basketball.
And then the FO squander away picks and players for a roster that didn’t fit.
And I don’t want to hear about Lonzo’s injury causing it to all fall apart. Lonzo is not an All NBA/All Star that irreplaceable. What he is….is often injured since being in the league.
If your roster turns into a bust because one player goes down, then your roster was gonna be a bust sooner or later. It just happened sooner in this case.
And because the FO sat on this injury without making any adjustment to properly compensate for this missing player, they bottomed out.
That’s not an injury problem, that’s a management problem.
All teams have injuries.
Bulls FO missed so many opportunities to course correct and they sat on continuity, cohesion, competitiveness.
Gotta stop supporting. They’re asking for too much of my money to produce a lazy managed product.

Doug ~ Right, the key is to focus on winning. I have been watching Indy-OKC and I am less impressed with star power than I am with depth and teamwork. I trust AKME more than anyone in the media. There job is to win. They make mistakes but they have had some setbacks too. But sports media focuses on drama and they can’t risk being fans. I get professional skepticism. However, I can’t imagine what it feels like to treat players like inanimate objects, pieces on a chess board and for what clicks? Especially when many have not have reached their potential or even adulthood. The roster needs rim protection. I can’t say that Dalen or Julian won’t develop into 2 way players. Or whether Patrick Williams won’t finally have healthy feet and heart. But there is a good chance we will pick Sober next week with the same risk. I am a fan. I am a Doug fan! But I have patience not to sell before I know what I have.
