Mavericks Fans Receive BAD NEWS After Kevin Durant Trade + Mavs Rumors On 2025 NBA Free Agency

[Music] on today’s show Kevin Durant has been traded to a team in the division so we are going to talk about the ramifications for the Dallas Mavericks and the latest Mavericks rumors surrounding 2025 NBA free agency and beyond that’s all we are talking about here on today’s show guys appreciate you for tuning in to Mavericks Today by Chad Sports my name is Jeffrey Cooperstein and we are officially counting down the days to the 2025 NBA draft we’ll be live here on Wednesday on the channel to welcome Cooper Flag officially to Dallas as the number one overall pick myself and producer Colin Brown will be hanging out with you guys all throughout the entire first round of the NBA draft so lock us in it’s youtube.com/mavsstev and we will have you covered with all of the latest Mavericks news and rumors leading up to during and after the 2025 NBA draft heading in to free agency all right let’s talk about the big story of the day kevin Durant traded to the Houston Rockets houston sent Jaylen Green Dylan Brooks the number 10 overall pick in this year’s draft and five second round picks to Phoenix in exchange for Easy Money Sniper and on the surface I think this is a fantastic deal for the Houston Rockets they get the guy that they’ve been needing the veteran in their locker room that’s going to show these young guys how to win show these young guys the right way to play basketball and say what you will about KD and all the toxic environments he’s created um didn’t necessarily create the environment in Brooklyn but that was a toxic environment and then the Phoenix Suns are just absolutely in shambles beyond belief right now so KD had to get out of there and he goes to the Rockets and I really do think this is a fantastic move for Houston houston was obviously the two seed in this year’s NBA playoffs they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round i believe with Kevin Durant this does make them a true Western Conference contender even though they were the two seed in this year’s playoffs I really didn’t see them as a threat to win the West i looked at the likes of the Denver Nuggets obviously OKC and the Lakers as threats to win the West minnesota obviously got ended up getting to the conference finals but I do think this gets Houston close to winning the West and representing them in next year’s NBA Finals and I know Kevin Durant’s still 37 he’s still a damn good hooper though and further I don’t think Jaylen Green or Dylan Brooks are pieces you can win an NBA championship with jaylen Green is an AA hooper man he can score 20 points a game it’s not going to be super efficient you don’t really know if he’s a true point guard or if he’s a two i like Houston getting off of that contract and I also like them getting out of the Dylan Brooks business because I just don’t think Dylan Brooks is a winner for any team i know he he you know came from Memphis went to the Rockets he kind of helped elevate them I guess but at the same time he always does Dylan Brooks things and it always hampers his team’s ability to win close games so I think this is a really really good move for the Houston Rockets and KD’s definitely still has some gas in the tank this year he averaged 27 points a game was pretty close to 50 40 90 uh shooting wise and he’s still one of the best scorers in the NBA right now the question is how much longer does he have to play look I I think KD could really help this Rockets team and why is this bad news for the Mavericks because it’s just another another uh weapon excuse me in this division in order for the Mavericks to to that has the Mavericks have to play four times excuse me i’m trying to get all my thoughts together here on a Sunday and with KD going to the Rockets you take a look at the Southwest division and I know divisions don’t really matter anymore but where it does matter is you play each of these teams four times you take a look at the Mavericks who have AD Kyrie and assume assuming they get Cooper flag on Wednesday you have Victor Wemanyama Devin Vel and uh Harper who assuming again the Spurs are going to draft them draft Harper with the second overall pick you have Kevin Durant Thompson and Jabari Smith there with the Houston Rockets you have John Morant Jiren Jackson with the Memphis Grizzlies then you have Zion Williamson Desante Murray and CJ McCollum with the Pelicans now Dejante Murray came out and said some crazy things about the Pelicans so maybe he’s going to be out on the move out there i know he’s coming off a torn Achilles as well had a bunch of trying times in his life so he not maybe long for the Pelicans but with Jabari Smith Thompson and Kevin Durant I think the Rockets are a fantastic team along with the addition of Dylan Harper to the San Antonio Spurs the Mavs are going to have their hands full in this year’s Western Conference man and I know we say this every year but it rings true even more today after Kevin Durant gets moved to Houston the Western Conference is just an arms race and whoever gets their weapons upgraded the most whoever packs the punch is going to be the team representing the West representing the West in the NBA Finals could that be the Houston Rockets next year i do think it could be could it be the Dallas Mavericks next year if they make the right moves I think it could be look man I do think this West is pretty wide open the Oklahoma City Thunder obviously playing in game seven of the NBA finals later tonight i do think they’re a beatable team hell I think if the Mavericks had Luca this entire year they might have beaten OKC in the playoffs like they did last season but that’s neither here nor there i think that there are a bunch of teams in the West that are pretty close to truly contending and Houston was one of those teams and they made themselves a lot better today with their acquisition of Kevin Durant the easy money sniper who I still think is one of the best players in the NBA frankly I still think he’s one of the best scorers in the NBA and I think he can help out a team who hasn’t really learned how to win quite yet and he can be that veteran presence in the locker room like I said who has been there and done that he’s won two Finals MVPs he knows what it takes to win in the postseason and he can help lift the Houston Rockets over the hump so all in all I do think this is bad news for the Dallas Mavericks i want you guys to fill in the blank for me the Mavs are the blank best team in the Western Conference do you think they are the best do you think they are the third best are they a top five team are they the worst team in the Western Conference let me know down there in the comments section what you guys think where are the Mavericks ranked among Western Conference counterparts while you’re down there getting your comments in go get your Mavsdraft hat right now at chatsports.com/mavs hat this is going to be the hat Cooper flag will be wearing here on today by going to chatsports.commavsdraft that link will be in the comments and the description of today’s show and when you use that link Fanatics will send us a part of the proceeds so you can help out the channel go get a cool Mavericks draft hat you can wear the same flag that Cooper the same hat that Cooper Flag is going to wear on Wednesday when Adam Silver announces his name to the Dallas Mavericks all right let’s get into some rumors here that have popped up over the last couple of days or so could Malcolm Brogden be an option for the Dallas Mavericks ian Begley of SNY who was super plugged in with the league mo more specifically the Knicks says Brogden is on the Mavericks list of point guard targets he now he did say he doesn’t know how high he is on the list but he knows that he is at least there and when you look at what Malcolm Brogden has done over the last four seasons you you’re kind of intrigued and you’re also kind of like yeah I’m not sure he can stay healthy because over the last four years he’s played 36 games 67 with Boston was his most health most healthy year 39 games and 23 24 and then just 24 games last year now last year he dealt with a couple of injuries and the Wizards and Brogden mutually agreed to shut it down uh in March for the remainder of the season so he was just limited to 24 games in action last year and he’s usually a very good three-point shooter 41% with Portland 44% with Boston that number was pretty low with Indiana but he played a different role there and in Washington it was pretty low as well again in limited action in 24 games played if he’s healthy I do think that Brogden could be an option he’s still a guy that can playmake from the point guard spot he averaged four assists last year you’re not going to ask Brogden to play 35 minutes a night i think again we I’ve said this multiple times on the show we know the Mavericks are looking for a guy that can both start and come off the bench malcolm Brogden is that guy he’s been a six-man before he’s been a starting point guard before so he can certainly play both roles and if Brogden is the guy the Mavericks want to use that taxpayer mid-level on I could see a lot of worse options than Malcolm Brogden the San Antonio Spurs chris Paul is also on the radar for the Dallas Mavericks and from my understanding and I’m reading all the tea leaves and looking at what the Mavericks could potentially do I think Chris Paul is going to be the Mavericks guy why is that number one at 39 years old last season he played in all 82 games with 82 starts so I absolutely think that’s a huge plus that the Mavericks would be looking at as far as Chris Paul goes playing in 82 games being super healthy still averaged over seven assists last year can still shoot it from three at a pretty high clip i think the Mavericks are going to be interested in Chris Paul and I think if I had to guess right now he is their number one option that they would like to sign with that taxpayer mid-level and uh just as a reminder the taxpayer mid-level is obviously the Mavericks are in the luxury tax so the Mavericks have about $5.5 million to use on the player in free agency will Chris Paul take $5 million it’s certainly possible if he thinks he can be a locker room presence and help mentor Cooper Flag uh help the team out while Kyrie Irving is rehabbing from his injury he’ll get to start he’ll get to play a decent amount of minutes again Mavericks don’t want him playing 35 minutes a night at age 40 i don’t think that’s conducive or I don’t think that’s good for anybody involved but we’ll see what happens i do think that the Mavericks are going to be interested in Chris Paul could Chris Paul now get a better contract elsewhere perhaps but maybe Paul likes what the Mavericks have to offer i believe he has a relationship with Nico Harrison whatever that means so maybe the Mavs have an inside track there i wouldn’t be shocked if Chris Paul was the guy that the Mavericks ended up signing to be their point guard for the first half of the first half of the season could be a guy like Colin Ston could be a guy like Malcolm Brogden but of course we’ll keep you up to date if anything happens it is game seven of the NBA Finals here tonight the last game of the 2425 NBA season before we get on out of here I want to ask you guys who you got if you think the Thunder are going to win it type OKC for the Thunder if you think it’s the Indiana Pacers type in D for Indiana myself personally I’m rooting like hell for the Indiana Pacers man i want Rick Carile to get his second NBA title i want the Pacers to get their first NBA title and it’s always focus Alexander so I’m rooting for the Indiana Pacers man but let me know who you guys got down in the The Kevin Durant trade is the talk of the day ahead of 2025 NBA Finals Game 7! The Phoenix Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, which is bad news for the Dallas Mavericks. While the Mavs trade rumors have not centered around Durant, KD going to the Rockets and being in the same division as the Mavs only makes it tougher for Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd to get the mavs back to the NBA playoffs. Mavs news has focused almost exclusively on Cooper Flagg ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, but the Kevin Durant trade will have a ripple effect all the way down to the Mavs. We also discuss the latest 2025 NBA Free Agency rumors, with the Mavs’ search for a point guard continuing with the likes of Chris Paul and Malcolm Brogdon

  1. You Mavs “fans” that are really just Luka fans wouldn’t be saying this if that overrated statpadding fraud Luka was still on the team. Yall clearly just want the Mavs to fail to prop up that overrated statpadding loser.

  2. Come on now.. We been around long enough to know that chemistry is everything. Watch it fail

  3. We gotta extend Jared Dudley and God Shamgod ASAP!!! Sweeney is a big loss, I don’t know why he would go to the Spurs, they haven’t been in the playoffs in almost a decade and Tim Duncan is NOT walking through that door.

  4. They added Jay Triano who is a vet coach so they prepared for it.

KD to Houston was always in the cards because KD and Udoka go way back since the Olympics. Yes Rockets are a threat in the West and will be in contention for a top 3 seed. Udoka a defensive mastermind just added a consistent 7 foot clutch scorer which has been the Rockets weakness in the 4th quarter for their offense for 2 seasons. Those young defensive wings will also be a problem. West just keeps getting stronger.

  5. I would have never traded Jalen green he’s good that’s a bad move and tenth overall pick for a old man I get he can score but just dosnt make sense let that team grow together my only thing I like for Houston is cam whitmore is better than green but I wouldn’t have done it

  6. Luka averages 32.5 PPG against Durant, while Durant averages 25.6 PPG against Luka. In their careers, Luka averages 28.6 PPG, and Durant averages 27.2 PPG.

Phoneix got two solid players, a #1 and 5 additional picks. Dallas got AD, Christie, and 1 pick. Too damn funny.

  7. The only bad news in this whole deal is us not getting in on this to try and grab Jalen Green

He would've been a great player to have for the future to put around Cooper Flagg

  8. Am I seriously in the minority that this trade is great for the Suns and terrible for the Rockets!????!!!!??? WOW!!!

  9. As deep as OKC is. They barely beat Denver whose statistically have the worst bench in the league.
In fact one could argue they were a Westbrick not Westbricking Layups away from winning that series.

Not that they aren't great or won't be a major force for years. But this is a observation that I feel is very likely a true one.

  10. I dont see how Houston got better in this deal because they traded away a bunch of picks, a young player in Green, and traded away a good defender in Dillon Brooks. If anything, the Rockets got worse. The Mavericks still have a chance to get Flagg, keep both PJ and Gafford, and sign CP3
