🤔 A front loaded 2+1 max deal with a player option and no trade gives Luka control and the Lakers max cap flexibility to build around him without getting buried by a long-term commitment (5 year Super Max extension). Smartest move Luka & Pelinka can make.
Thank you Mark Walter for talking over the Lakers franchise. I was very frustrated every season when quality players could not be signed because of limited funds available and avoiding CBS regulations. Luka should not sign an extension until Rob is able to sign a quality starting center, a back-up center a a good point guard. I am tired of the Flippers getting quality players because ownership is a billionaire.

Luka is an enigma to build a team around because he's like a guy with plenty of natural game but is a talented guy comes to join the party, not a guy who you fit the pieces around. It took 7 years for the Mavericks to get any traction on how to fit around Luka. Building around Luka should actually be done in opposite namely to build a team that Luka fits well onto. Build that party. Jerry West would probably have built a good team here but he's RIP. A blind good start would be both Bruce Brown and KCP. These guys are mercenaries, able to join any contending team and figure out a way to win. These guys are not substitutes for injured stars but get you over the top when all are healthy.
With the new spending power the Lakers should get a quality center if they insist on keeping AR. This current team looked better against OKC in the regular season than the Wolves. A good center might have gotten this Laker team past the Wolves. The Wolves with draft capital should want AR. If they had AR and McDaniels opening up the scoring for Ant with their scoring, then the Wolves may have been on the Finals. AR's contract is trade friendly and the Lakers should try to get four future firsts for AR from the Wolves who need to make a run to get into the Finals before salaries get too big and age hits the roster. Trading to the Wolves is safe: it won't come back to bite because they are a one and done team with the payroll so maxed out.
