Shaq Breaking Backboards Changed the NBA

Shaq Breaking Backboards Changed the NBA

shaq dunked so hard he changed the NBA you see old backboards used to just be bolted to a metal plate causing things like this to happen it went from an amazing highlight to a huge safety hazard from college players to Michael Jordan they were all shattering backboards but it wasn’t just the backboard that was the problem players like Shaq were so powerful they brought the entire thing down this caused every team to start bringing backups in the arena for moments like these or else the game would be cancelled it happens so often Shaq even has a tree made up of all the rims he’s broken which forced the league to change how they made them creating the shack proof breakaway rim attached to the arm sports Science would test the new rim with NBA center Amari Stomire he was brought in to dunk with as much strength as he could with his best attempt being 1,000 lb of force and the backboard remained intact they even went as far as dropping a piano right on the rim with 6,000 lb of force and still the backboard didn’t shatter since then no NBA player has come close to breaking the backboard on the modern NBA

  1. kinda hope they bring it back, it just looks so awesome

players just need to look away and close their eyes ๐Ÿ‘

  2. This is one of the things that become "why do they do that in cartoons?" Because as time progresses and the reason why, though documented, becomes more obscure people will just think its something done in cartoons, becauseits no longer a problem. Fascinating.

  3. How in the fuck are you going to say it's a Shaq proof rim and not let Shaq be the one to fully test it yeah the other guy got over A 1,000 lbs of pressure on it but he doesn't weigh as much a Shaq does I bet Shaq could easily get that number up to about 1800lbs round abouts fr so until I see Shaq slam that mfr like his whole bank account counted on it or he'd lose his money that's how we will know if it's worthy or not

  4. Being a kid is thinking that breaking backboards is cool.

Being an adult is still thinking that breaking backboards is cool, but also knowing that it's a massive pain in the ass.

  5. I never understood why the backboards weren't 1/2" polycarbonate. It would have been indestructible.

  6. What idiot decided to make the backboard GLASS anyway????? Thats such an obvious design flaw in a game where the backboard can potentially be subject to large amounts of force. Just make it see through plastic, whos gonna notice the difference ๐Ÿ˜‚ Bet its cheaper too.
