Bobby Marks’ 2025 Indiana Pacers Offseason Guide | NBA on ESPN
all right happy Sunday evening uh hopefully you everyone is great out there we are going to do the final two offseason videos here we’re going to start with uh the Indiana Pacers and it is um you know these are not easy to do especially when you get two teams that get to an NBA finals and you got to do an offseason article and now you got to do a video and it’s it’s certainly u not easy to do in light of the Tyresese Halurn injury and what happens next with uh with the Pacers here and we will certainly get into that um we uh we wrote the offseason article for Indiana before game six we uh had a version written if they won we had a version written if they lost and then we had another version written in light of the Hallebertton injury it’s it’s demoralizing um you never want to um you know when we work in the media we have to be neutral as far as except for you know if I’m rooting for my New York Jets um but when we’re rooting for teams and players but it’s hard not to root for this Indiana team as far as and we’ve been saying it all all for most of the season at least for the playoffs um how resilient this group is and then when you have Hallebertton who gets injured um we’ll wait for the final injury report here and what his timeline is going to be which will be significant um it’s uh it’s a blow uh not just to the Pacers but it’s a blow to the NBA here um when you look back on the the article was supposed to be if they had lost that this was going to be a springboard to the offseason this was going to be a springboard to next year and when you have 11 players under contract and your your big thing your big offseason question mark was going to be Miles Turner um and the likelihood is that all signs were pointed to towards bringing Turner back you were going to be a favorite you were going to be the favorite in the Eastern Conference next year there’s no ifs ands and buts about it you were going to be the favorite here and now we have the Halbertton injury and what does that mean and I think there’s a great big unknown as far as where this roster goes um we’re going to talk about it in a little bit here um uncertainty the offseason and how they proceed with their roster here um they Indiana traded the their um their first round pick to New Orleans we did that 45 second video on that it cleared up some money um they are likely going to be in a luxury tax for the first time since 2005 06 season they are 20 million $20 million below the tax um 27 million below the first apron they’re not going to enter the um and you know well below the second apron what exception they have is dependent on what happens with Miles Turner here uh they can get a little more relief if they decline the Tony Bradley option that’s at $2.9 million that’s a team option here um when you look at the priority and we wrote about Miles Turner as far as the contract what he should get and you’re watching this game and you’re thinking you know where’s Miles Turner and that comes into mind um ineffectiveness and certainly and and certainly how they you know the game changed as far as matching up and he didn’t fit as far as what they were trying to do to get back in this game and you put Obi-Wan out there with Pascakum and now you have the Halburn injury and now you’re figuring out what’s what is the next contract from Miles Turner going to be remember if you just let him walk I don’t think that’s going to be the case you have the $14.1 million non-ax maximum level exception to replace him that’s what you get um I do think there is a priority to bring him back i do think there’s a priority to reach a compromise as far as what the next contract is going to be um I do think the Pacers have a lot of leverage in this based on what we’ve said all along that there are no teams out there that have cap space besides Brooklyn i don’t see how Miles Turner fits in Brooklyn if uh you already have Nick Claxton and certainly in a rebuild and then the other thing is if you don’t if you’re not happy with what you’re being offered you um certainly could try to force a sign and trade and you know that will require you taking a three-year contract in the first year guaranteed and we bring in the hard cap restrictions and all those other things that come with it for the acquiring team um and does Indiana want to take back money um that that listen he deserves a new contract it’s hard to say what that number is going to be is it going to be 223 million it gives Indiana a little bit of flexibility to jump out of the tax if they wanted to the luxury tax and I’ve said this before is not the the boogeyman that it once was if you’re over the luxury tax by under $11 million the penalty is not severe at all uh it’s if if you’re over by 5.6 it’s dollar for dollar and then it’s a buck and a quarter um you could be $10 million over and it might cost you like like $13 million it’s not much at all it’s the apron here so you you’ve got to figure out what the Turner contract’s going to be and as far as what your compromise with uh with that there is um you know I don’t need to go through his stats listen Brian wrote about it when Shams wrote about it that uh sources told him that Indiana was willing to go in it this was before the turn the Halleburn injury i don’t know if that changes now but we’ll pay attention to that um this off season here um the the the second question regarding Turner um how does his contract indie impact Indy’s roster in future seasons and and why I say that is eventually that you’re going to have to figure out what you do with Benedict Mathan and eventually Aaron Nesmith who’s got two years left but is also extension eligible the Matan situation and negotiations is going to be fascinating i love Ben Benedict Matan’s spirit his um his competitiveness does he kind of go over the line a little bit it’s like a it’s almost like watching Lance Ste like a light version of Lance Stevenson here um but you can’t fault a player that cares and and you can’t fault a player that cares about winning um and is trying to win here and I think that is going to be the Maththerin extension is going to be interesting indiana has been aggressive they’ve been aggressive with extensions hallebertton Nemhar Nesmith TJ McConnell all signed new contracts and extensions the last few years that’s four the Hallebertton one is the only one that um that um was more than $20 million everything below that is is below $20 million including Aaron Emith who is extension eligible for three for $64.5 million what does Maththerin mean as far as one of your better reserves of course um certainly energy player um he’s got a $9.2 2 million expiring contract as I said the Turner situ contract could play a huge role as far as I just had it pop up here as far as what will happen with um with some of your decisions as far as extensions and everything um as we said you traded that pick you’ve got the 54th pick in the draft you’ve got all seven of your future um picks your needs are front court depth you’re probably going to need some backcourt depth certainly now with the Halbert injury here but um just a really just disappointing ending um to a terrific season for Indiana and it’s um these videos as I said kind of pains you a little bit here um so that is um that is it that is um that’s it great season Indiana you should be uh you should appreciate this this this team and what they’ve been able to accomplish um and we will talk soon [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

Loved this Pacer team, so much fun this playoff run and it ranks only second behind the team that took Jordan's 70 win Bulls team to seven games. However, the Hali injury plus the success we just had changes so much. The value we have to sell high and get better for the future is there, you don't botch it ala the Paul George missed year. Some guys are untouchable, but if you can make a move to get an alpha dog scorer or get younger you do it now. The team that just beat us did that, other teams have done that to great success. I'm in no way in favor of bringing back Myles on some monster deal either, If he takes something like a 4yr/80mil contract extension, go for it, but all signs are pointing to him getting 35+ million a year, thats insane.
Get Paul George back and and trade for keyonte George from utah to run point
Fluke year over.
“Hopefully everyone is great out there” bruh did you see what happened last night
Blow it up. Hali will be out all next season and it will take the season after that to ramp back up to where he was. That means they aren't competitive again until the 27-28 season.
The problem with letting Myles walk is there is no competent big out there
Pursue Malcolm Brogdon in Free Agency and Sign at 14.1 MLE. IMO, he's familiar with the franchise. He can be a stopgap solution while Tyrese Haliburton heals from injury. Keep Nesmith. Sign Matthurin, Turner to extension then flip him in trade when better player/desirable asset (draft pick) becomes available. Develop rookie players like Gerace Walker.
Myles tuner gotta go
Turner was not playing well offensively, he needs to improve his scoring inside the paint to the mid-range.
Hali injury changes everything, I think. Unless for some miraculous news, the injury is not as bad as we thought and can come back later in the next season. OR another out of nowhere trade happens / a star wanted to move to indy
I see a lot of people bashing miles while offensively he didn't do a lot. He spent a lot of energy on defense and he made some good plays. I don't think we can be as down on Miles as people are being
They better be ready for a season without Haliburton. It was stupid of him to try to play game 7 last night. He brought that torn achilles on himself. He cost himself most if not all of the 2025-2026 season. A healthy Haliburton is far more important than a championship.
The Myles bashing is 50/50.. but yall are crazy if anyone thinks there’s someone (outside of JJJ;)) that we should ever think about .. or who could even compare
Siakam will have career numbers next season now
I love Siakam but we might have to trade him, Mathurin, Walker and picks to get Giannis
Is there any sense (I’m delirious tbh) but in this moment.. Myles and Siakam deserve to finish their careers competing .. we aren’t completely broken, however, this changes so much so very quickly.. would sign and trading Benn , Myles and perhaps even Siakam be something to consider? Or perhaps do you trade for a third star to pair with Siakam now while Tyrese heals?? Food for thought . I’m lost. Today hurts.
You should tell the rest of the media they have to be neutral
Cam Johnson of Jonathan Kuminga. OBi didn't show up, Nesmith and Turner. And they will need a TRUE BACKUP POINT GUARD
Start Andrew and Bennedict, re-sign Myles on a team friendly deal, add another wing. They’ll be back.
I was rooting for the Thunder but I can’t say enough good things about this Pacers team. They were awesome
Mathurin will start all of next year and will take a leap. Walker with get more minutes and ultimately Hali comes back to a better team
nice
If they let them walk, the Lakers is gonna snatch him up and the Lakers is back in the championship next season 😮😮😮
draft clayton jr from florida . point guard can hit the 3 and clutch in the final minutes. can allow hali come back slowly and not rush him
We desperately needed a actual point guard behind Hali. McConnell was good but thise costly turnovers and decisions were costly. Not putting the L solely on him but somebody that could actually be a PG was lacking.
Turner is so overrated it’s crazy
warriors sign and trade kuminga for turner that works for both teams kuminga will definitely have the bigger role he needs especially with hali injury and warriors get a big
The pacers have a very deep bench… while Hailburton heals.. Ben will most likely be a starter and get better defensively and be more of a team player… he can shoot and is a shooter
Sign and trade Turner
Turner is a beast in December in Atlanta with no one paying attention. He clearly did not want the ball at anytime in this series. Scared to death.
Can sombody tell me what they would have to give up to get Gianni’s cuz I would sing Turner just to put him in a package deal
Mathurin will sign a contract extension this offseason
