nobody wants to see star players get hurt in the NBA and unfortunately in the Eastern Conference playoffs we saw Tyresese Hallebertton Jason Tatum and Damen Lillard all tear their Achilles tendon and prayers up to them and their families but the unfortunate truth is injuries happen and those injuries have changed everything for the New York Knicks if you want to see the Knicks in the NBA Finals next season as I think the Eastern Conference is now wide open go down right now and hit that thumbs up icon be the reason the Knicks get there like the video [Music] you’re watching Nick Now by Chat Sports i am your host Marshall Green appreciate everybody being here and I just want to start off by saying congratulations to the Oklahoma City Thunder as they have been crowned the 2025 NBA champions and again I want to issue my condolences to the Indiana Pacers and Tyrese Hallebertton look nobody wants to see star players get hurt so prayers up to him as well to Jason Tatum and Damen Lillard we’ve got to do something about these Achilles injuries in the NBA i think I read there was eight injuries that uh happened like this this year and that’s far too many and we saw three big ones happen to three major teams and look the reality of sports is injuries happen and while I’m not happy about this I’m upset and you can go back and you can go watch the Boston Celtics game that was live on this channel when Tatum got hurt and the words I said then are the same ones I said i wish he was healthy and I wish Tyrese Salbertton was healthy cuz I want the Knicks to be the best by beating the best but the facts of the matter is the Eastern Conference is now wide open with injuries to those three players las Vegas actually has the New York Knicks as the betting favorites to win the Eastern Conference and get to the NBA championship they have him as the third favorite actually tied for second with the Houston Rockets after they acquired Kevin Durant on the morning of game seven and the Oklahoma City Thunder still the favorites and favorites to repeat at this point at plus 240 the Rockets and the New York Knicks share the same odds at plus 750 the Cleveland Cavaliers at plus 900 and then a major fall off to another couple of Western Conference teams different books have different odds but the ones that I’ve been seeing the most is the Knicks are the favorite to win the East and uh in the top three to win the NBA Finals again I’m not happy anyone is hurt i’m not doing that but I do think that these injuries need to change the way or really just make you focus in on what Leon Rose needs to do this off season the New York Knicks have to capitalize on the Eastern Conference being wide open and some of the top players in this conference being hurt and it starts with the head coach search and then NBA free agency the NBA trademark it and finding ways to add players that are going to make an impact to this team you have the 50th overall pick in the NBA draft can you select a gem in that selection this is the most important off season for Leon Rose he has to hire a new head coach and he has to make an evaluation of is the roster that I put together last summer good enough to win the NBA finals or at least get to the NBA finals or do I need to make major changes we already saw him make one major change by firing Tom Tibido and then he told you and I that quote “Our organization is solely focused on winning a championship for our fans.” That tells me that he is willing to do whatever it takes to put the Knicks in position in his opinion that is the best odds to win the NBA Finals and I’ll just say this I’ve said it a couple of times and I’ll go right back to it tom Tibido being fired or firing Tom Tibido cannot be the only championship move that you make Leon because even someone that is the biggest Tom Tibido hater I don’t know who they are there’s someone out there they can agree that he is not the only reason they did not win a championship the turnovers against Indiana killed you the inability to shoot the ball well from the outside killed you you couldn’t get stops in crunch time you couldn’t slow down the pace the ball pressure was too much i could go on a show of 45 hours of why the Knicks lost to the Indiana Pacers and I haven’t even mentioned game one yet the Knicks are very very close but the only reason they did not win the finals is not just Tom Tibido so you have to find another way to improve this roster and as we know the New York Knicks don’t have the most weapons in the weapon bag to go out and do it they don’t have a lot of cap space they don’t have a lot of draft picks to trade so Leon is going to have to get creative to improve this roster hire the right head coach and give his team the best chance to get to the NBA finals in a weaker and hurt Eastern Conference they really only have the taxpayer mid-level exception to use an NBA free agency yes you can go out and sign veteran minimum players but it’s very rare that veteran minimum players swing the needle in the direction of winning a championship and my question is does a 2-year 1.6 $6 million deal to a free agent give the Knicks that much better of a chance to win the NBA Finals i can tell you this the New York Knicks are not the only team that woke up today saying “Oh man the East is wide open we got to capitalize we got to make moves.” Other teams feel that exact same way the New York Knicks finished second in the East this year they got to find a way to finish first in the East next year i got more to say about this topic but I want to make sure that you guys join us on Wednesday and Thursday night at 7:30 p.m eastern time as we are going to be live for the NBA draft every single pick it’s a two-day event now first round on Wednesday second round on Thursday and we will be breaking the draft down every pick with a focus on the New York Knicks who have the 50th selection in the draft so if you want the best East is open who are now the biggest threats to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference and let’s start with the Cleveland Cavaliers the team that won almost 60 games or maybe even 60 games last year the team that finished first in the Eastern Conference and they are bringing back the bulk of their core in Donovan Mitchell Darius Garland Evan Mobley Jared Allen they still have DeAndre Hunter they still have good players off the bench are they going to be able to bring back Ty Jerome in NBA free agency the Cleveland Cavaliers are equipped to make a run in the Eastern Conference as well and I would not be shocked if you told me right now the Knicks were going to be playing the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals and that would be a hell of a series that’d be two really good teams going at it i personally think the Knicks could use another weapon off their bench or maybe an upgrade in the starting lineup if they do want to for sure beat the Cavs next year i’m already looking at the Orlando Magic as a team that is in the way of the Knicks to get to the NBA finals they went out and they made a massive trade to acquire Desmond Bane for the Memphis Grizzlies trading four first round picks to get it done and I think he is a great fit on this roster that features Jaylen Suggs and France Vagner and Wendell Carter Jr for Paulo Bancero the me uh the Orlando Magic were a team that suffered from not being able to shoot the ball from downtown and Desmond Bane is one of the best in the business in doing that he could do it off the catch he could do it off the bounce and he could definitely space out the four by launching up 28 foot threes he’s a really good fit and I think he’s going to help take a young Magic team to a spot that they have not been in a really long time the Detroit Pistons are staring you right in the face again it took you six games to beat him in round one and they were young and that’s probably the worst version the New York Knicks are going to see of the Detroit Pistons i’m a big Kate Cunningham fan i think he is just scratching the surface of who he is going to be in the NBA i think he has league MVP type of potential you don’t just come around 6’8 point guards that could do everything on the floor and they’re young jay Nivey didn’t play against the Knicks thompson is only gonna get better harris is a steady veteran duran is still there are they gonna bring back a Dennis Shruder are they going to bring back a Malik Beasley there’s multiple ways for the Detroit Pistons to continue to get better roster-wise and they are only going to get better as they get older that’s a scary team in this young Eastern Conference i think the Atlanta Hawks are a sleeper in the East this year maybe it’s just cuz the New York Knicks always just have a battle against this team but I’m not going to sleep on Trey Young he is good enough in my opinion to go out and help a team win a playoff series but this is more about Jaylen Johnson averaged 19 points this past year seemed like 10 plus rebounds five assists he is one of the most undertalked about best players in the NBA he’s just got to stay healthy if he can stay healthy Reach takes another step a Kong Woo a hell of a player tyson Daniel showed that he’s an allNBA defender this is a scary team in the Eastern Conference if they can stay healthy jaylen Johnson is actually the best player on that team and if he continues to grow stay healthy watch out for the Hawks in the Eastern Conference so these are what I would say are the biggest threats to the New York Knicks in the out they’ve still got Brad Stevens making decisions porzingis is still there if they hold on to him you still got Jaylen Brown you still got Derek White you still got Drew Holiday you got Pton Pritchard who’s still a damn good player off the bench it’s hard to count them out even though they do have injuries just like the Indiana Pacers they ran out of gas in that fourth quarter but in the first half they went toe-to-toe with the NBA champions without Tyrese Hallebert andrew Nemhard could take a step this next year benedict Mattherin is looking to fly to the next stage of his NBA career they are deep they are young they are talented and they’re one of the best coach teams in the NBA and Giannis yeah you got to take note of where Giannis is and what he’s doing even if Damen Lillard is not there do the Bucks roster does it stink absolutely can they make trades to improve it yes can Giannis still be the best player in the NBA on any single given night absolutely giannis can win a playoff series and uh I’m not going to count him out and I still am not going to count out the Miami Heat i think their team stinks i don’t think Tyler Hero is a second best player on a title team i don’t think Bam Adabio could be a best player on a title team but there’s just something in the water in Miami that we’ve seen them put together improbable runs in the postseason and if Eric Spoler’s on the sideline you always got a chance especially in a weaker Eastern Conference my question to you is who is the biggest threat to the Knicks in the East at this moment i think you got to go Cavs
