Boston Celtics Offseason Plan REVEALED per ESPN NBA Insider | Celtics Rumors

what’s going on Green Teamers it is Monday and the NBA offseason is officially here as the Thunder have been crowned NBA champions for 2025 and before we get into all the latest Celtics news and rumors on today’s show I have a challenge for you guys the bosses said that we need to get 400 likes on this video or else we are cooked cannot go live for the NBA draft don’t get me yelled at don’t host Tyler Smith and on today’s show a new Celtics trade report via an ESPN NBA insider who has been in NBA front offices before Bobby Marx now we’ve shown you Bobby Marx’s big old you know diagram you know kind of outlining the Celtics offseason here with the seeds projected to have more money in luxury tax penalties next season than they are for their actual payroll and that just is not sustainable especially when we consider the Jason Tatum likelihood that he plays next season is pretty pretty low so the Celtics we know are going to have to make some moves this offseason to get themselves potentially under the second apron which at right now they sit a little over $20 million in front of so look it’s not going to be easy the Celtics are probably going to have to make multiple deals this off seasonason but the reason I bring up Bobby Marks today is because he is outlining how the Celtics can get under the Second Apron and do it most effectively while remaining competitive for next season and beyond because if you look at the Celtics contracts on their plate right now this just isn’t sustainable they’re going to get hit with massive penalties come the trade deadline next uh next season and in all likelihood it it looks like the Celtics are going to make moves this summer in order to get their books in order you know they’re in an ownership change they’re not going to be the highest ceiling version of themselves next season so why you know penalize yourself deeper when you know the end goal isn’t going to be you know what you thought it would maybe heading into next season without a Tatum injury so you look at these contracts Jaylen Brown 53 million Drew Holidayiday 32 million Porzingis to 31 million he is expiring so there’s some value there but maybe they sell end up holding on to him and then Derek White at $28 million they’re not going to trade Jason Tatum at 54 million especially under Achilia’s injury he’s a franchise and uh that just doesn’t seem all likely at this point and you know can we also heard from ESPN Sham Shirania that the Celtics quote are going to have a much different roster next season so that tells me it’s not going to just be one trade it’s not going to just be a just a Drew Holiday or just a Porzingis or just even a Jaylen Brown trade no multiple moves are going to be had for Boston this season that’s because you know they are a second apron team which means they’re not able to aggregate contracts unless that trade puts them below the second apron after it’s all ironed out and said and done so they’re going to have to make maybe a Drew Holiday trade solo they’re going to have to make a potential Chris Esportzing trade solo maybe even a Sam Hower trade solo and Bobby Marks detailed three Celtics trades picked two that he he wanted to go with and saw the kind of light at the end of the tunnel for the Celtics when it comes to this offseason we’ll we’ll show you those three trades in Celtics offseason coverage on YouTube all right let’s lay out the Celtics offseason path here so ESPN’s Kevin Pelton provided three different avenues for the Celtics to shut off a big salary chunks while still getting some decent value back in trades this offseason bobby Marks decided to you know combine whatever trades he thought were ideal for Boston and get them underneath the second apron so the first idea that came from Kevin Pellin is as follows a three team trade and keep in mind if the sellers are going to make trades this offseason it’s very likely that they’re going to include a couple different teams because when you’re a second apron team and you’re trading one for one in a two team deal you need to have literally 100% of the salaries being matched up going back and forth and that’s not easy when you can only trade one salary at a time when the Celtics are a second apron team so trades one for one are not going to be too easy it’s going to be a lot of three team maybe even four multi-team deals um for Boston this offseason to get some money cleared up now in this idea this one gets rid of Chris Desporzingis and look on the onset I don’t love this deal the Celtics would get Brandon Clark who I’m a little bit of a fan of solid do it all forward role player jay Huff who needs a little bit more of a um role increase you know he the new coach in Memphis doesn’t seem to like him too much so maybe with the Celtics shallow front court he gets some uh some minutes up in Beantown but that’s what the Celtics are getting back in return for Chris Esporing and Xavier Tilman now this trade specifically it does clear up $17.5 million but the Celtics can’t make that trade today as you just heard they included not only Chris Horzingis but also Xavier Tillman so that would be a trade that has to get done after the Celtics make a you know big salary chunk move that gets them you know closer to 17 million $17.5 million or less uh above the second apron so they can’t make this trade anyways unless they are you know that figure below so they’d have to make another move before that ends up happening bobby Marks by the way ended up saying no to this trade anyway so he went decided to go with the two other ideas that Kevin Pelton threw out there so let’s present those to you right now this four team mega deal the Drew Holiday deal and keep in mind I I have Jay Huff in there by accident no no worries he’s not going in this deal he’s in the Grizzlies and you see the Grizzlies aren’t even involved in the trade so no worries there but the Celtics are getting PJ Washington in this deal and they send away Drew Holiday to the Dallas Mavericks meanwhile the Nets and the Clippers get involved a little bit the Clippers gets Prosper here are they just sending out cash in this projected idea i’m not so sure exactly i feel like they maybe have missed a uh potential Clippers second round pick getting thrown in there somewhere because I don’t know where they’re participating in this trade other than receiving Omax Prosper back the Nets get back a couple of young and role playinging pieces as well as a 2027 Boston Celtics first round pick that’s a very potentially highly valued pick like we don’t know what version of Jason Tatum is going to come back in 2627 cuz look he’s not playing next year let’s let’s get that out of the way right now jt ain’t playing at 2526 so when that year comes around the next version of Jason Tatton that we see we don’t exactly know what this roster is going to look like we don’t exactly know what he’s going to look like so that pick could end end up being pretty pretty valuable down the line but we know that Brad Stevens doesn’t want especially if he’s going to give away a first round pick doesn’t want you know just scraps coming back he wants guys who can contribute right away and I think making this trade PJ Washington is absolutely a guy that can do that he fits the Jay’s timeline right now being 26 turning 27 years old he makes a modest $14.1 million and he is on an expiring contract but he’s a player who you could extend long-term for like half of Drew Holidayiday’s salary like a guy who’s making $37 million yeah maybe 17 $18 million a season is something that’s comfortable for PJ Washington he’s shown that he can be a willing team defender he can hit the outside corner three he can do a couple different things for you on the basketball court as a versatile switchable forward and in a year that you’re not going to have Jason Tatum this is a kind of perfect stop gap of a player to have you know just playing on the margins as a role player alongside Jaylen Brown alongside Derek White i’m I’m in on making a deal for Washington personally I would love if the Celtics could somehow swing both Gaffford and Washington in this deal but again in that instance you wouldn’t be creating that much salary cap relief maybe only around $5 million or less so that would be a little bit difficult to maneuver um as far as the sellers making any deals later down the line but as for right now and in a vacuum I don’t mind this trade whatsoever and the sellers get off $18.3 million making this trade so an even bigger salary relief than the Porzingis deal and you’re getting better talent back in the equation in PJ Washington as you know he would probably end up starting for the Celtics next season so I don’t hate that deal all too much let’s move on to the next deal that gets the Celtics officially under the second apron and look this is a oneandone deal thank the Lord we don’t have to get too complicated here now with the Boston Celtics in their current focus at this point we have heard that it is trading Drew Holidayiday trading Chris Esportzing and trading Sam Hower but I don’t think it has to be a combo of all three of those guys the Celtics can get under the second apron by just making two moves and these are the moves that ESPN outlined sam Hower gets traded along with Xavier Tilman so the aggregate contracts the Celtics are getting under the second apron with this deal so it’s okay that they include two players they get back Dooop Wereath look I’m not going to sit here and act like Dupre wreath is some sort of blue chip prospect that’s going underneath the radar that Celtics fans are going to fall in love with but he is a serviceable backup big man who’s shown the ability to hit the outside shot defend the rim be a little bit mo mobile as well like he’s not going to wow anybody he makes $2 million and he really is just a player that needs to come back in this deal so the Celtics are able to end up executing this trade you send Sam Hower into the full non-t taxpayer mid-level exception slot that Portland would have open and Portland’s a team that probably needs a little bit more uh movement shooting off of the bench so I think it’s a good deal for them they also get a second round pick out of it and Boston ends up getting some salary cap relief here officially under the second apron clearing $10 million in salary cap space i I don’t I don’t hate these trades whatsoever i think you’re getting back solid enough value on players that you know you know you’re probably going to have to get rid of this off seasonason so on these two trades the four team deal for Drew Holiday for PJ Washington as well as a dooop wreath trade that gets some salary cap relief for Sam Hower what’s your guys approval rating on these two Celtics trades i’m getting a little political for you guys in the comments section what’s the approval rating scale it for me from one to 100 one means these are trash we would not make these deals whatsoever 100 means we’ll drive them to the airport ourselves we got to get these deals going ASAP no Rocky comment deals because you see that they traded away the in this ESPN ideas they traded away the players that they were probably you know pegged to trade this off seasonason they didn’t trade away Derek White or Jaylen Brown and with how wide open the Eastern Conference looks next season look the MA the Magic they made a big uh you know big acquisition in going out and getting Desmond Bane somebody who fits them awesome and they’re going to be at the top of the conference next year but look the unfortunate reality is the East has been decimated by injuries tyrese Hallebertton just went down with the torn Achilles in game seven of the NBA finals absolutely prayers to him us Celtics fans we know how that feels damen Lillard went down so the Bucks who knows what they’re what version of them we’re going to see next year i mean the Knicks they’re going to run it back and potentially make some marginal moves they’re going to be pegged as no doubt a contender in the Eastern Conference so with that being said they’re the Cavs will be back but they’ll probably make some other moves too like the East is wide open that is my point here and Brad Stevens if he sees that like that kind of blood in the water kind of vibe like why would he end up trading Jaylen Brown and Derek White if he still thinks that this team with these marginal moves can contend in the Eastern Conference to make the NBA Finals like he will not trade Derrick White and Jaylen Brown unless he is literally forced to unless you get a package that even exceeds the value that the Knicks got or the Nick sent away for male Bridges or in a Jaylen Brown scenario maybe the Spurs trade that’s being floated around Stefon Castle number two pick getting involved like those are where you’re forced to make trades for these guys but as of right now I don’t think the Celtics are in that spot i think they believe they could still contend by making some marginal moves trading away Holiday trading away Hower getting on the second apron and getting some value back and then when you look at the potential rotation that this these moves could create look it’s not the prettiest lineup in the whole world i’m not the biggest fan of it but you cannot sit here and tell me that this starting five is not a top five starting five in the Eastern Conference even without Jason Tatum peyton Pritchard would get the starting nod as Holiday gets shipped out derek White obviously another capable ball handler there they’re going to run the back court two absolute sharpshooters lighting it up from deep and then you keep Chris Espors which the Celtics I’ve heard have been rumored to open to be doing so he is an expiring contract it’s going to be one that’s fairly tough to move you’re not going to get too much value back for him and maybe the encore production that he could give you is better than the encore production that you’ll receive back in a trade because we know Brad Stevens wants value back and he wants players who can play i like that starting five but I will say that bench unit is probably one of the worst in the entire NBA they’re going to need some more improvements there they’re going to need to hit on pick 28 they’re going to need to hit on pick 32 if they’re not moving up in the NBA draft and Baylor Shyman is going to have a massive role next season as well but as far as a starting five of Peyton Pritchard Derek White Jaylen Brown Porzingis and PJ Washington that can contend in the East no doubt about it so my last question to you is this do this can the Celtics win the Eastern Conference can
