🚨 Trade Reaction 🚨 Celtics send Jrue Holiday to Blazers for Anfernee Simons | NBA on ESPN
all right a happy actually it’s a happy uh Tuesday morning uh midnight on the east coast and uh we have a trade uh that actually can happen uh tomorrow uh between Portland and Boston this is not a July 6 trade the contracts actually work you can um you can do that uh you can do that right now and I’m sure Portland and Boston will have a um a trade call uh with the league office and get this thing finalized here where uh Portland uh the 36 and 46 Portland Trailblazers are trading Anthony Simons to Boston for Drew Holiday um the Celtics are also receiving two seconds this is the first of many dominoes that are going to fall in Boston um my apologies to Celtics fans i um was my probably my fat fingers typed u under instead of over the apron you are still over the apron but you are making progress as far as where you are you are roughly $18 million uh still over uh a over the apron so you as you could see it’s like kind of a chipping at an ice block eventually the ice block ice block will will melt here let’s go through the contracts a little bit here uh Holiday is in uh year one of that extension that he signed a year ago uh $30 million for this year um and then it goes 324 348 372 it um he’s got a player option in that last year basically Boston is getting rid of that $72 million that is owed to him in uh in the last two years uh Simons has this year which basically have a week left in the season 25.9 million and then next year he’s on a 27.7 million expiring contract for trade purposes we are using the 202425 uh contracts so 30 million goes out um in Boston 259 comes in you create a $4.11 million trade exception um that will be available for you to use if you want to even though you are a second apron team uh new trade new exceptions can be used uh in a trade when you look at it uh let’s start with Portland here aggressive uh to say the least when you were 36 and 46 you made made the Denny Abdia trade last year at the deadline you um basically relied on your current roster you were sitting on I don’t know $60 million in cap space next year remember you had the expiring contracts of Simons at feel like it’s a law firm simons Aton um who Robert Williams Matise Dyel who’s got a player option for this year and you basically have parlayed your uh cap space flexibility into Drew Holiday uh who I am a big fan of um I’m not a big fan of the $72 million that you are inheriting um but that is the risk and that is where Portland probably sees their roster right now um 36 wins in a ridiculously tough Western Conference the status quo doesn’t work right now so you now you add U and certainly the the roster and the lineup is is flexible you add Holiday with Shaden Sharp who’s rookie extension eligible you have um I don’t know I just got like a random email sorry uh Shaden Sharp you have Denny Aia you’ve got Tumani Kamara and you’ve got Donovan Klingan that’s who I see the um start the starters to be you have your backups you still have Scoot you have Jeremy Grant still you have Robert Williams you have Matis Style you have Chris Murray um um who else am I forgetting i don’t know it’s been a long day here um so that is and you still have the um you still have the 11th pick in the draft here and you will get a good player if that’s where you stay on Wednesday night here um it is as I said it is an extremely aggressive and Drew Holiday is a heck of a player uh but a player kind of on the probably a little bit on the back end of his career here um and as as I said you basically parlayed your caps flexibility next year into a player that has won multiple championships and you’re hoping that you get that spark where you know you’re probably potentially now you could be in that playin mix here probably need a plus eight in wins um for next year um and that is the addition with uh with Holiday certainly a risk based on where the contract is uh but if you weren’t going to sign Simons and you weren’t going to be active in free agency next year Holiday basically is your big free agent for next year when you look at Simon Anthony Simon’s coming back at 259 and 27.7 uh Celtics save roughly $40 million towards the luxury tax next year that number will come um lower remember when you trade a a once the season ends and you trade a contract and it’s in the current fiscal calendar basically the money is frozen the salaries are frozen of the teams there’s no luxury tax savings for um for Boston um for this current 24-25 year unless a player had a trade bonus in their contract so you basically the salaries are frozen at the end of the year you don’t just because Boston is saving for the next week you do not get savings here um I am expecting more moves to happen your back court of Simons and Derek White will probably look different um when we get to training camp certainly we’ll keep an eye on what happens with Chris’s Porzingis i think the goal is certainly to get under the second um to get under the second apron um 19 $181 19 million below Porzingis is at 30 $31 million uh we’ll keep an eye on Sam Hower we’ll certainly keep an eye on maybe Derek White i think you have to have a come have to come with the monster trade package this basically the bridge year that Boston was going to do this certainly is the bridge year um and you know right now you’re probably best positioned to I don’t want to say have a fire sale but you’re basically going to probably be positioning yourself for potentially probably a lottery pick here as far as where this roster is going and you wait till Jason Tatum’s Tatum gets back and you figure out what you’re going to do with your roster but you do have to have a I would say a winning team when he does return [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

I’m not understanding the logic at the end about fire sale. Jaylen brown, white, Simons, Pritchard are far from a lottery team
Dumb move Boston it’s over
Holiday got game. Bad move. I wish the Knicks can get him. Championships everywhere he’s goes. Stupid move
Lakers need jrue
Come on lake show go get em
Jrue and Portland 😂a match made in Heaven
I love Jrue, but don't see how he helps a non-playoff team like the Blazers. I guess this means Portland is all in on Scoot Henderson. I figure they'll want to trade Jrue to a team that wants to contend and could benefit from having him, but we'll have to see….
Celtics down fall starts here 😂🤦🏿♂️
Why? Holiday looks old and shot, he's also owed a ton of money…
Blazers need to be investigated for colluding 😂
How you get got twice by the same team?
idk i LIKE this move. if we keep him, we’re clearly going all in on defense and i love that. we’ve been so bad on the defensive side of the ball for TOO long. yeah our guard offense will take a small drop but if Deni, Scoot and Shae can continue taking leaps, alongside our draft pick this year, im more than happy to take on the money.
if we trade him, i just hope it’s for another forward/defensive minded backup guard.
Jalen green to Portland, jrue to rockets, Simon’s to suns and Fred to Afghanistan 😂😂😂
Smells like the Luka Trade
Kuminga for Holiday.. perfect fit for both players. Get it done Dunleavy
Forgot Deandre Ayton , im sure hes a likely trade option. But interester in what you think
They gon Trade Jrue for Jalen Green
Boston desperate to stay relevant after Tatum injury
Funny thing is, neither the Celtics or Bucks would have won their titles without Holiday, yet they both found him dispensable.
Celtics are getting ready for the 26/27 season. Porzingis is next guy to go.
Holiday back to the bucks watch
Poor Blazers fans
Derrick White is NOT being moved. He is a non-negotiable at this point. It doesn’t make sense to move him. Who could the Celtics possibly get for Derrick White that would be a plus for Boston? I can’t think of anybody. It would take a deal where you not only get a solid defensive guard who shoots 38% from 3 pt ranger, but also Is stop clutch guard and with 2 first round picks and 1 or 2 second round picks. It won’t happen.
Why in the world would you trade for Jrue when you can see him slowing down on the court and he has a massive contract c'mon portland
I dunno I'd rather have Jrue. You can plug him into any situation and he's a winner. Simons is a chucker, and not very good at much else and has never won anything. The Blazers went in steady decline when they chose to move forward with Simons over CJ MCcollum.
