Messiah Ujiri made to himself 12 years ago no deal i bet they pick Giannis they’re going to pick and now today this could be one of the most calculated most patient and potentially one of the most wild heists in NBA history there is mutual interest between Giannis and the Raptors not one-sided wishful thinking and you’re probably wondering why would the two-time MVP want to leave Milwaukee just to head to Canada to a franchise that’s missed the playoffs four out of the last 5 years giannis is owed $54.1 million next season and is locked up until 2027 but here’s the kicker toronto has the financial flexibility and they’re sitting on valuable assets like Scotty Barnes who by the way multiple reports suggest would have to be included in any Giannis deal but something still doesn’t add up fans at this time and to make it even worse a month after the heartbreak of losing their head coach Messiah gave up their franchise player Demar D Rozan along with Yakub Purle and a protected firstround pick for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green they gave up a committed AllNBA and all-star for a guy who only played nine games that season this was insanity there was one year left in Kawi’s contract he only played nine games due to injury and after requesting a trade from the Spurs he made it known that LA was his ideal destination not Toronto a lot of fans felt like this was reckless because if the Raptors did not win an NBA title they gave away a committed cornerstone player for a guy who never really wanted to be in Toronto in the first place but all that said the impossible happened it’s off the Leonard defended by Simmons is this the tagger series [Applause] [Music] and the Raptors won their first ever NBA title the NBA title is yours here’s the point messiah has clearly been in this situation before he knows what it’s like to make a gamble move that nobody agrees with and yet everything he did turned out to be an absolute masterclass and now as we know it the same executive who orchestrated that masterass has been chasing Giannis for over a decade do you really think he doesn’t have a plan the pieces are falling into place in ways that seem almost too perfect milwaukee is frustrated Giannis hasn’t committed long-term and suddenly Toronto of all teams emerges as the front runner but what if this isn’t about desperation what if this is about chess moves that were planned years in advance what if the Raptors aren’t just targeting Giannis what if they’re preparing to make multiple moves creating a super team that nobody sees coming the reports about Brandon Ingram the flexibility they’ve maintained the draft capital they’ve accumulated it all starts to make sense if you view it as part of a larger conspiracy take in the chemistry they’re Conference is wide open right now if the Raptors suddenly emerge with Giannis and whatever other moves they’re planning they don’t just become relevant they become dangerous obviously this sounds like a great situation for the Raptors but obviously Messiah may have to give up something to get Giannis multiple sources have indicated that Barnes would be essential to any Giannis trade package but think about this Barnes is just entering his prime he’s on a team-friendly contract and he fits perfectly with Toronto’s timeline why would you trade him for an aging superstar well maybe Barnes isn’t the future of the franchise maybe he’s just the bait the question isn’t whether Toronto can land Giannis the question is what else are they planning while we’re all distracted by the obvious because
