we have a massive Maverick signing incoming and it was only a matter of time as we’ve reported heavily on this channel that we have two main players who are up for a contract extension and those players are PJ Washington and Daniel Gaffford as well as in the upcoming hours really we should be finding out the details about Kyrie Irving on whether or not he’s going to accept his player option or forego the option and resign a new deal however just a few minutes ago we got the breaking news that Daniel Gaffford is indeed getting a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks to come back for another 3 years on a very very teamfriendly deal about 54 mil to $60 million the details are still floating around there but in this video we’re going to take a look at the at the report about Daniel Gaffford what does the money look like what does that mean for other players extensions and how does the rest of the summer go from here but how’s it going everybody my name is Marcel Martin thing that we do but earlier in the summer I guess earlier in our off season since we lost in the second round of the playin there’s been a lot of rumors surrounding many of our players daniel Gaffford being included as one of the centers seen around the league as someone that other teams would definitely want the Lakers being one of the teams who feel like yeah they got Luca they got Maxi they got Marie Morris why not get a few more Dallas Mavericks they have Dorian Finny Smith they had Christian Wood it really does seem like the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to build the Los Angeles Mavericks and when this report came out earlier this month or last month rather uh Daniel Gaffford wants starting center money which could lead to a trade derek Lively is a year away from getting extension daniel Gaffford is entering the final year of his contract gaffford reasonably and rightly wants to get starting center money mcmahon explained “You can’t have 80 on a max lively on a big contract and pay Gaffford starting center money.” And of course when this news broke out Daniel Gaffford took no time at all to let his discord know which we let everybody know that that is not true that those are not the words that came out of Daniel Gaffford’s mouth and that he’s actually upset when people misconrue his words but like I said earlier in the video we just found out that Daniel Gaffford did sign or does plan to sign an extension with the Dallas Mavericks and it’s a very very team-friendly deal and the details are as follows the Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gaffford intends to sign intends to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $60 million sources tell ESPN Mavericks officials and Gaffford’s agents Mike George and Shy of Clutch Sports negotiate the new deal through 2028 2029 which is absolutely amazing we got Daniel Gaffer for the long haul at least for another three years well four years rather he’s got one more year on his current contract but that’s great the Dallas Mavericks have a very very very solid core and it starts with our bigs whenever we traded for Daniel Gaffford about two seasons ago everything changed for the Dallas Mavericks we finally had paint presence and Daniel Gaffford right off the bat was challenging Wilt Chamberlain records he was creating his own records within the Mavericks organization and he showed us right away that he can be the future for the Dallas Mavericks in that big man role although he is 6’10 although he may not be a top 10 center in the league it works for Dallas and I for one am just ecstatic that he’s staying daniel Gaffford is a staple in Dallas already him and PJ Washington in my opinion those two are definitely Dallas Mavericks for life as long as we definitely keep him but getting Daniel but keeping Daniel Gaffford is very huge with Cooper Flag coming it’s good to have some centers that he can play with because we all know that Cooper Flag by himself is a very talented player he can also playmake and with the pick and roll who’s the best pick and roll player or pick and roll roller that we’ve seen wearing a Dallas Mavericks uniform in the last two seasons oh it’s Daniel Gaffford and then Derek Lively and also Anthony Davis so all in all keeping our paint presence is very very important but how good was Daniel Gaffford i mean last season he put up 12 points six rebounds about 1.4 assists again that’s not really a starting center stat line he’s still good by by all means daniel Gaffford is amazing center maybe not a top 10 in the league but with the value we get out of him it feels like we have a top 10 center if we take a look right here whenever the whole report came out about Daniel Gaffford wanting starting starting center money if you take a look these are the top 10 centers getting paid i know Anthony Davis’s name is there twice and Rudy Goar because of contract extensions expiring and starting next season but Daniel Gaffford who’s I want to say it’s about 535 $54 million close to 60 mil isn’t even cracking the top 10 of the most paid centers he’s only getting about $20 million maybe a little bit less than that about 15 to 17 million a year which I think is an amazing deal for the Dallas Mavericks that’s a very teamfriendly deal we can easily if I’m not saying I want to i’m not putting that out there but if we ever have to trade Daniel Gaffford it’s not a hard contract to come off of it does and it doesn’t really restrict us we still have to pay PJ Washington and later in the video we’ll take a look at the rest of our salary issues but that contract really does make things a lot easier in the upcoming hours and I would say at least the next 12 hours to 24 hours we should know the details on Kyrie Irving whether he’s going to opt into his contract or is he going to opt out and get a new deal and he only has about yeah one year left it’s a player option so the money is going to get a little bit weird but at least we know that on the Daniel Gaffford front everything’s good to go we’ve got our center whether he’s a starter or a backup it really doesn’t matter the landlord is going to deliver and he’s going to collect that rent if we take a look right here on just how good Daniel Gaffford is for the Mavericks well last season he was top five in rim protection top five and he’s not five he was number one in rim protection but as well as the top 10 in points per possession yeah Jared Allen had number one but number two was Daniel Gaffford again we’re only paying about 15 to$17 million a year he’s putting up great efficient numbers for the Dallas Mavericks he also shoots 70% from the free throw line which I think is well about 68% that’s still very good for a center but knowing that we don’t have to overpay for a center that gives us this much production is amazing for the Dallas Mavericks that really does put things into perspective as far as competing we still want to compete for a championship we are still going to go out there and try to win games and make it to the playoffs and try to make a deep run and we got to keep the team together as as close as possible someone’s got to get traded someone got to go you got to do what you got to do but if you can keep as many of these core pieces together the Mavericks will be in a very very good spot but if we take a look right here as well I’m all over the place uh curious if PJ Washington is next for an extension tweeted out Mass Film Room and someone responded saying “Don’t you think he gets traded they need to trade someone if you if they want a point guard.” Now that’s one thing that’s very very interesting obviously Daniel Gaffrey he gets extension cool we don’t have to worry about that but now we got to worry about PJ and Daniel Gaver’s contract really shouldn’t impede on the money that we can offer PJ again PJ won’t be up for an extension or not eligible for an extension until August so we So we still have time we have at least two months to try to shave off some money like we said many times when we sign Cooper Flag we will be in the second apron some players will be traded we have to shave off some money and if we can’t make it work maybe PJ gets traded i don’t want him traded not trying to put it out there in the universe but there is a reality where if we can’t make the money work PJ might get traded it may not be traded right away over the o over the summer or even at the start of the season it may be right at the trade deadline as the season progresses and we really see what we need or maybe we’re cool being the second apron maybe we just sit there with all of our guys everybody’s out there hooping we’re balling we’re going to the playoffs we’re making the finals second Apron nothing we got billionaire owners and pay the tax unfortunately in the new realm of the NBA and the CBA and the way salary is all set up you are penalized heavily for going to these aprons and if you look at the last seven NBA champions all of them are different teams it’s hard for teams to overpay and keep winning in today’s NBA you got to manage your salary right you got to manage your players right if you win one it means a lot more now because it’s a lot hard to go back now barring crazy injuries as we all know the East is wide open for anybody to go back the Pacers could probably go back but for the overall landscape of the NBA salary does matter if we take a look right here like I said the salary caps we are over I’m sorry we’re about $10 million under the second apron about $3 million over the first apron the money is getting kind of funny you sign Cooper Flag about he’s he’s going to make about 14 million a year so that puts us over Daniel Gaffford he’ll sign his extension soon that money will not take into effect until next year however things don’t look as bad because it is just an extension for Daniel Gaffford he’s still going to make his $14 million next year the following year he’ll probably make about 15 to 17 mil but that next year Dwight Pal is going to come off the books now Dwight Pal just signed his uh or just opted into his player option just the other day about for $4 million that 4 million comes off the year the Daniel Gaffer extension kicks in which is great the problem is the year the Daniel Gaffford’s extension kicks in is when Kyrie Irving’s new contract kicks in which we have no idea what that looks like as well as PJ Washington the same year Daniel Gaffers kicks in is the same year PJ’s is supposed to kick in and the way everything looks PJ Washington staying in Dallas on a contract that he wants is kind of contingent on what Kyrie Irving takes if Kyrie Irving takes what he wants and there’s no room for PJ then there’s no room for PJ but at the same time Kyrie Irving isn’t going to take a 50% cut to his salary just to keep PJ i don’t see that happening if it does he’s he’s a better man than I but all in all we can worry about PJ and Kyrie when the time comes right now we got Daniel Gaffford we got one of the best big men in Dallas Mavericks history the best big man since Tyson Chandler and Dirk hyperbole but it does feel good to know that we’re not breaking the
