Miami Heat Kevin Durant Trade Offer Draws Backlash | Leaves Fans Wondering What Is Next For Miami?

welcome on in guys tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel hope everybody’s doing fantastic out there uh you know I look I’m not going to do in a video here a rehash of what I did on the radio show today and a lot of what I did yesterday maybe a a scooch inebriated after the parade on the KD not ending up there but fantastic reporting uh by Anthony Chang and Barry Jackson giving us the details of the deal right i think that was uh some of the more fascinating things it wasn’t even that the Heat didn’t land Durant but man when you saw the the the the heap of of stuff that they offered for offered him and then there was a little confusion because of the way Shams worded his report it seemed like at one point that like Haywood Highmith was a dealbreaker which by the way I gotta be honest with you out of all the players the Heat did offer for Kevin Durant you could argue Heywood Heismith has been the Heat’s best and most reliable out of all of those guys out of Hz Wiggins uh you know uh Terry Roier like Haywood Heismith tried and true so I just want to make sure like I a lot of respect for Haywood Heismith as a player and what he brings to the table dude is an absolute dog for the Miami Heat um but there was like a little bit of weird like oh the Heat wouldn’t offer Heywood Highmith for Kevin Durant which it appears that they did um but that’s neither here nor there uh the thing that everybody’s you know obviously upset about which I reflect on show if you guys missed uh the rant which it didn’t even like it wasn’t this was one of those things where Lero and I were just having a conversation and it just kind of spilled into that and people will often ask when you have a a radio you know take like that where you’re cooking on the take does it feel better afterwards and the answer very f very easily is you bet your ass it does it feels great it actually does help a lot of the times after big losses and I think that’s a reason why uh you know people do seek these things is cuz like people are just infuriated right now and you know there’s just a there’s just there there is a big thirst from the Heat fans you know to get back to a place of relevance where they’re not out right now and I get even some of the people who pushed back and said “Hey Tes you sounded like an ingrate you sounded like a bum because this team has been the the pillar in this town for years.” Hey man all of that’s true and nobody and I mean nobody around here has given that franchise their front office their ownership more flowers than me which is why I feel like when the call outs happen or when things are just said in a way that accountability needs to be there you know I think that you know if if I’m telling you it it probably holds a little bit of weight cuz I do give these guys their credit and I do like when I hear Pat Riley speak and understand what a legend he is and understand you know all the things that this guy has forgotten about basketball that I could only dream to know but but he is also the man who has set forth the set forth the the very big standard of there’s winning and misery and that there’s championship or bust and the Heat have had some nice stories over the last few years and there’s been no doubt been exciting thrilling fulfilling runs and especially when it’s unexpected pacers fans can feel this right now nobody thinking you have a chance and man they even took it even more to the brink than the Miami Heat had when they got to the finals and so unfortunate what happened with uh with Tyrese Hallebertton but I think for me that what what I’ve found to be the most confusing when I see the reported offer is okay you guys didn’t want to put in any real chips to get this guy because you don’t want to sell the farm to get a guy you don’t think is the difference maker but my big question now for them with this team and and where it’s going to go and and all the fallout of this and I’m I’m doing this under the scope of there are going to be no moves maybe something else happens i mean do I think that a Jiannis Takumbo is going to drop out of the sky and certainly do I have the faith that the Heat are going to get it well I would be pretty foolish to have that faith right now um because even when it has been seemingly teed up on a platter for Miami or made them whittle down to the top two teams they just can’t get it over the goal line lately it just it it it just feels very frustrating but you know genuinely Miami does have to an ask themselves some very very hard questions about where they’re at the guys they’re invested in who they truly think are the cornerstones of the franchise and and I think for from my standpoint this is not a criticism of Bam Arabio and Tyler Hero it’s just it’s a very it’s a very open question that I think now all fans can ask because even the guys look there’s a lot of people who give Ban the support he deserves because he’s a very good player plays his ass off represents the organization top-notch defends better than anybody in the league or as good as it as anybody in the league um 2010 guy or 1910 guy um and you know you know won’t be played off the floor in a playoff series and and is going to take on the toughest defensive assignment whether that being Nicola Joic or Joel Embiid or whoever that you want to throw at there you know like it’s it that they’re that Bam is going to be up to the task and then for Tyler I know there’s a lot of people who ride for Tyler Herro and think that the dude is an absolute star in the making he is an all-star can he be a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a level above can he be a Tyresese Hallebertton who can can carry Miami um to to new heights and and you know had that confidence that he has in himself can he have that payoff man I don’t know but I I do feel like what we saw last year was not a guy who had the support system that he needed even without as outstanding as he was because like look Miami’s offense was bad last year without Tyler Hero it was high school good i mean it was so bad if they didn’t have Tyler Hero to score for them who else do they have and you know to have this on your doorstep and be like “Yeah you know to to to give such a not even a half-hearted effort to go get Kevin Durant when publicly Tyler Herro was going on streams and being like very not so subtly shouting out KD and Bam out of sitting up there at at the end of the year and he’s asking the media to please ask Pat Riley what those moves are going to be because I think he’s wondered for the last four summers why the guys he has close relationships with who do have an interest in playing with him aren’t here and it just has to be cleared up at some point where is Miami going with these two because Bam got an extension not even saying he doesn’t deserve it I’m happy that Bam got his money Tyler Herro wanting his money totally get don’t even you know do I think that he should extend him i think it’s a tough ask right now because of where they’re at in the organization and timing is kind of everything but I don’t fault Tyler Herro for wanting that money and I loved his answer at the end of the year where he’s like asked if they is it a problem if it doesn’t end he goes “No it’s just going to be more expensive later.” loved that answer from Tyler Herro but you just got to wonder like all right where where does the organization feel like these guys really are and and what is going to be the extra help because all right very obviously they put Wiggins in the deal reportedly right and that just didn’t seem like a marriage that it has nothing to do with attitude or anything it just look man it came under awkward it it was a a union that came under awkward circumstances and now we all kind of know you tried to flip him for Kevin Durant like if Andrew Wiggins comes back is that going to be cool i don’t think he’s going to make a Jimmy Butler stink but this is the the the era of Andrew Wiggins has now been you were the guy who got flipped for Jimmy Butler you were very injured obviously seemed pretty upset that you were away from your family didn’t produce to your capabilities and now Miami tried to flip you for KD so what does that mean for his future does that mean that the Miami Heat are going to definitely go in a Wigginsless future i don’t know i don’t know i mean the Terry Roier move like of course they’re going to try and get him off the team i mean it’s been arguably the worst trade in franchise history does he come in with a summer that’s clearer of distractions one year removed to the injury can he play better hard to play worse i would hope so i would hope that he could play better i would hope that there’s some scary Terry magic that’s still in there um you know we know Himemehis Jr okay if he’s in the deal where do they go from there with him is his future going to be here there is some rumblings of like other maneuvers that he could be in in the deal um and you know I just wonder from the standpoint of those guys like yeah where’s their head going to be at probably mostly Wiggins is the one that I’m interested in um because I think it could be better in a more ideal world going into like a a summer to plan for it but I’m sure this you know I’m sure like oh he’s like the first first act of the summer before the uh the NBA season even ends is the Heat are trying to flip me for KD even though you didn’t really have a chance to go anywhere Wiggins like especially with that deal that was up the um and then you look at the young guys that okay they didn’t want to touch in Kel Wear and Nicola Yoic and look I I said this all along in the buildup to the trade is that I really like both of those guys as players i really really do i just didn’t see how they were going to get a deal done for KD without giving up one of them i thought that the magic move was going to be wear which was going to be the one that hurt more but to me it was the only one that was the Heats that was their wild card i hope Kell Wear comes out and he is a you know 15 and 10 guy blocks three shots a game is an absolute demon and you know builds off what was a hell of a a second half of his rookie season deserved second team all rookie um for a flash there looked like he could have been rookie of the year a a brief flash where which I should have cashed out on after skyrocketing to the favorite in odds i had a huge cash out buyout offer from Hard Rock neither here nor there love KL Wear though i I really do i love you know I think that he seemed like he’s about the right stuff i I understand the things that he has to get better at but he’s super young and Nico is is still super young you know 22 years old going to be on the Euro basket stage here i’m excited to see what he he brings to the table looks like he is uh you know early on in the summer was working very very hard he’s had some unfortunate injuries um which I guess is a concern he had the uh the hand he got hurt at you know broke his uh his foot over the summer last year so if he could have an actual summer to get better this year I think that could be absolutely huge but this is another part that I I come in to this and and and and led to some of my frustration with this is like all right are the front office and Eric Spoler on the same page here right because we did have the uh the the uh the the the report from Ethan that Spo was a big proponent of the KD deal but I think if SP like and that’s kind of the funny thing is because like Spo is right because Spo wants veterans and he wants proven guys and now he’s got two 2122 year old here in his front court who had good chemistry with one another when they played um there was we we saw a a window a little peek of Bam Nico and Wear playing together uh there was a game where it really flashed and looked great but you have to wonder like with Eric Spolster like remember we had the Riley comments at the end of the year about he’s never worn his you know whatever’s going on with him he never he just looks tired he needs a reset and I know Spo’s going to come into this thing gung-ho reinvigorated with the great right attitude i know that’s what he’s going to say coming out of camp because the dude’s a competitive maniac that’s the stuff that he’s about but is he going to actually put his arms around this team and and try and make it work with this and then what does that look like right like let’s just say Andrew Wiggins is back let’s say they resign DaVon Mitchell you would likely think that the team starting you unit is going to look the same it’s going to look like DaVon Tyler uh Wiggins Bam Wear which I would assume then coming off the bench would be Nico as kind of your backup big six-man change of pace guy can do a little bit of all but you can play him with Bam you can play him with maybe they’ll be a brief moment in time in games where they all play together and you kind of have like an Orlando Magicy feel like they have with Paulo Fron and and Wendell But you know I I I don’t know if that’s something Spo Like if if they didn’t have Wiggins would Spo go to that like would he go DaVon Tyler um with Nico Bam and and where would he would he do something weird like that i don’t know and I And to be fair like as much of a Nico fan as I am he has even said like he likes the sixthman role a little bit more because he thinks he could play by him play like himself i don’t know if he loves being in a unit where look he’d be the second best shooter in that lineup and I don’t know if he loves the role of just being spot-up shooter guy with the ball not in his hands and the ball just kind of finding him so there’s that element too like these they are a little bit of a a land of all three of those bigs are dynamic in their own right but they’re all a little bit of a a bag of misfit toys as well so yeah I’m curious to see like what the you know what the the the point is there of of how they decide to concoct all of that and and where they go from there and and that was kind of uh that was a little bit of why I was willing to part with one of them for KD because you knew that was because you knew Bam isn’t going anywhere and you knew that probably where was the one they wanted to part with less but Nico being um such a unique player and not knowing if he could ever reach his full potential here um that that’s why I think I would have been more willing and I say this as somebody who legitimately He’s he’s probably my favorite player on the team to watch like I love watching Nico play ball and and and he’s just about the right stuff dude like he is he plays the game with joy he’s super accountable he’s worked his ass off um and and and and all those things are just things you root for right and and yeah there is that untapped potential of like hey what can this guy be i will tell you there are people who you know scouted him coming up who think the kid’s got something to him that there there can be another level here that’s unlocked but I don’t know with this iteration of the Miami Heat if that’s where it is and it probably would take the Heat stinking up the joint a little bit and letting him go through some bumps and bruises to to get that going in the right direction so yeah there’s a little bit of is the front office and Eric Spolstra a guy they ever invest in the lone coach in the league other than Steve Kerr who’s got that kind of job security are they on the same page i don’t know i mean I don’t know if and where do your stars like would we ever get to the point where Spo’s fed up i don’t think so because I think he values having the rarity of of that job security with Bam feels like it would take a lot like I mean he’s been Mr heat he is the captain they have given him every extension at every turn that he’s wanted um but he is competitive and eventually like every star can get even with all that stuff every star can get frustrated with that would would Tyler It feels like he knows the Heat are or his Willy Wonka ticket like it it feels like he knows they do value him and that he wants to get that bag secured before there would ever be an element of him making a stink it would have to be the Heat like lowballing him in extension talks in the summer I think for it to ever get uh pissy between Tyler and and the organization although it was weird he did uh I guess he deactivated his Instagram accounts that that is a little bit weird but it was you know man today wasn’t fun today wasn’t fun even on a day that was uh you know talking about the NBA championship I saw more stuff about the Kevin Durant trade on uh on on TV and then you know first take ended today with talking about the Miami Heat which I saw in studio i didn’t listen to it other than this one clip that went around from Mark Eve Morris and I think Mark Morris who shout out to him has been very pro the Heat gets somebody and he was he’s just like I don’t get it and and he and he echoed a lot of like what I was thinking he goes like why wouldn’t you put in more to get Kevin Durant to put with Tyler and Bam like he’s just kind of flumxed by it and I think that’s where we’re all at too is just it’s not only frustration but it’s it’s this you know feeling of like all right well great okay once again you guys come up empty-handed but is the plan just because I hear these people who are like well the plan was always the summer of 26 which it wasn’t but if that’s what they want to spin on this fine luca doesn’t sign his extension and you think you’re gonna be in the game for Luca Donuch um I I just think that’s a that’s that’s a crazy crazy unless the Miami Heat know from Gorand Dragage back channels that Luca is hating LA even though he’s already you know tweeting out about the new owner about winning championships with him i I mean you know or you know like Anthony Edwards for sure you know wasn’t going to recruit KD to Minnesota so he for sure has one foot out the door eventually i I mean you know this isn’t 2010 anymore planning with all that cap space it just doesn’t it doesn’t seem like the path anymore to do that and even those like Luca okay pipe dream of all pipe dreams giannis doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere like these aren’t plans man these are hopes and the thing that’s disappointing is that you know the Heat have had the guys want to be here it’s not like they were in the Minnesota spot of like oh Minnesota wants to get Kevin Durant he goes no it’s not like Damen Lillard where it’s like other guys want him and he’s like no these guys wanted to be in Miami and even still that wasn’t good enough to to take a risk for them and uh I don’t know man it’s it’s just a it’s just a it’s just an odd empty feeling to be at right now with this uh with this with this team and uh and where their their place to go is i know there’s still a whole off season ahead like technically the offseason just started we got a draft coming up that’s the thing that they’re best at right now in my opinion i think Adam Simon and that whole front office what they’re doing right now that’s that’s the department that’s cooking right now um but even that feels like it’s like yeah you get a guy but like all right is it going to take another half season for that kid to earn his way into suppose trust and all that stuff so that just feels like the cycle we’re on right now and uh and it’s not a good feeling and it’s not a good feeling here and all these people you know it was even what like even like Stephen A today was like oh I mean Bam and Tyler and KD there because it’s like I think even everybody realized while maybe you don’t think KD Bam and Tyler maybe the the pundits out there didn’t think that was the sexiest move even they had to be like that’s what they offer that’s that’s all they offer they wouldn’t give up who to pair with those two allstars in this East even Even everybody who like didn’t love the Heat as an option thought it was crazy that that’s the best cut that they took at Kevin Durant so I mean I saw you know right before I started recording I saw I don’t know if it’s true or not but I saw there was one rumor I think it was from Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer that said like the Cavs were willing to offer Darius Garland for him and it’s just like you know you see stuff like that and you’re like yeah like did the Heat why did the Heat even want their names in the rumors of this at all with uh with what it appeared they were offering maybe they felt like they were actually close maybe they felt like there was no way the Rockets were going to budge and that the But I honestly feel like even if the Rockets didn’t up their offer and that’s what the Heat were offering which was essentially just the 20th pick right like that was like the 20th pick is essentially what they were offering and I feel to me I feel like the Sun like that was the deal where the Suns were probably like when they were talking in these back channels about oh um the Suns may just keep Kevin Durant like if I just saw that offer I’d be like “You know what dude i’m just keeping you i’m sorry i can’t I can’t make this trade in good faith.” And I’m sure Katie’s camp probably went to both of these teams and was like “Hey can you sweeten the pot a little so we can just get this over with?” And the Rockets did the Heat i don’t know what they offered i mean I don’t know what you would even consider a little sweetener in this move um because that was a that was a really bitter trade package

Tobin has some more thoughts on the reported Miami Heat offer for Kevin Durant. What will be the Miami Heat’s pivot point from here? How do Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro react to this? Are Spo and front office on same page? What will team do with Nikola Jović this year?

  1. Miami should have been thrilled that Phoenix was willing to take their mid ass bench guys who were all often getting DNPs this year. Welcome to the play in tournament again, guys 😤

  2. It's funny how everyone in the media wanted Miami to trade everything. @Tobin, they wanted to add Jovic to the already offer of Wiggins, Terry, JJJ, Haywood, plus multiple 1st round picks, and other stuff. I'm sorry but there is no way thats even a smart thing to do a trade like that. Especially not for a 37 year old KD.

  3. Brahh the Heat's offer was not that bad….Terry, Duncan, are both expiring deals, frees up a lot of money…Wiggins is a solid 3-d guy, Jovic & JJJ are young still promising forwards…Plus the pick…I mean that's not a bad offer, and if your trying to win like Pheonix is….I would take that over Rockets deal…Pat was right…If your going to go ALL IN it has to be a star in their prime who gives you a longer window of sucess…..If we couldn't get KD on the cheapski's then I dont want him..

  4. Please remember Rockets, how much you "fleeced" Phx when KD sits out 1/3 of the season and provides zero leadership.

  5. We will be back Heat Nation. We are Culture. Im upset with how management has handled this the past few years. Specially losing jimmy. But we will be back. Dont forget how gritty this Miami organization is. Lets stick together through the hard times that next chip hopefully comes soon. We will be on the moutain top.

  6. Miami shouldn’t even worry about a superstar unless they draft one cause as long as pat in office they won’t get one from another team because they saving these basic players from being traded

  7. We really need to rise up and revolt. The way pat Riley has been running this franchise for the past 6 years has been criminal

  8. Bro everyone needs to call the f**k down. Yall crashing out about a guy who is turning 37. The Heat did the right thing by not trading for Durant.

  9. This team is not a KD away from being a championship contender. Especially when you have to trade away all of the assests you have to get him

  10. All the Heat do is whiff on trades. The team is in desperate need for change in the front office. Hire somebody from the outside to replace Pat Riley and lets go in a new direction. It will never happen though, all these guys have jobs for life and will continue to run the team into the ground with no questions asked from ownership. Embarrassing.

  11. Lmao aint not way im trading all our players for KD ya sound stupid and desperate for any trade just for the sake of a trade. If only the NBA didnt hold shit against us we would be able to do trades like the Celtics and Lakers.

  12. Most Players, and Teams, use Miami as leverage to get their deals done. KD wasnt really interested in the Heat. He wouldve come here, as his last resort basically, but really wanted Houston or San Antonio.

  13. Heat need to Draft their next Star. Id take a chance at getting Clayton. He can score, has a winning mentality, and leadership skills. All 3 things this team needs Badly.

  14. We dodge a. Bullet…..we be in a mess in 2years and the same Ungrateful fans and media would😢 be eating drums on tbd not making good moves

  15. I’ve never heard you sound like you got a talking too in the background. You’re making excuses. Fans are pissed as you were don’t take it back now
