More Spurs Trade Rumors

what are the latest trade rumors regarding the Spurs’ second and 14 picks in the 2025 NBA draft find out next [Music] earlier this week Michael Scott of Hoops Hype reported the Philadelphia 76ers have had conversations about the second pick in the draft however Don Harris of News4 San Antonio uh who does have connections to the Spurs’ front office uh quickly shot down those rumors saying that the Spurs are not going to move the second pick in the draft and and they are expected to draft Dylan Harper still so again uh that there was that rumor out there this past week that you know the Spurs and Philly were talking regarding the second pick but again uh you know that’s just rumors and the Spurs are not looking to move the second pick so we can kind of stop there and this is a no-brainer um regarding um the Spurs again right now i I’m not sure unless like again unless it’s someone like Giannis on Dupo who who becomes available right which right now it looks like from all reporting that Giannis is is at least going to start this season most likely uh with Milwaukee based on how the Bucks are operating again if it’s not for an allNBA level player you know top MVP level player right now Giannis was a top three candidate again I don’t think the Spurs should even entertain the idea of moving the second pick again um based on where where everything’s at right now so again Harris shot down that rumor very quickly when it first came out that the Spurs and Philly were talking about moving possibly moving the second pick uh also regarding the 14th pick there’s been um two two reporters who have have had some information on this and it kind of ties in maybe to the KD situation as well so uh Kevin Oconor of Yahoo said that the Spurs are looking to move the 14th pick and a current player um you know right now and then also Sam Vini of The Athletic also reported that the Spurs are looking to move the 14th pick so again this might be part of you know potentially a a Durant package like because like we said there’s probably been like 14 VLE and Barnes for for Durant or maybe if the Spurs aren’t looking at Durant or or maybe looking at other deals maybe again they’re maybe they’re looking to get like a starting level wing something I wrote about over on the spot-up shot is that if the Spurs don’t get Durant and they’re looking for like a starting level wing I think that they should entertain the idea of of get of moving the 14th pick uh attached with the player you know a rotation player someone like a devel like um uh like Harrison Barnes or Kell Johnson however if if it’s for like a backup defensive big who’s going to help on the boards and with some rim protection I don’t think the Spurs should should move the 14th pick along with the player to do that i think they should still explore those options either with the 14th pick getting someone trying to see if there’s someone in the draft or maybe using their non-tax mid-level exceptions to either sign a free agent or um acquire a player via trade but like when I say acquire via trade maybe with like you know multiple second round picks instead of having to use a first round pick so again that’s the the latest uh on the um on the Spurs the Spurs’ second pick and the 14th pick being involved in trade rumors for more information visit spotofshot.com and sign up for the newsletter also remember to click that subscribe button

  1. The Spurs cannot draft three times this summer. Rookies are very unefficient and cost wins to the teams.
For example, Castle was -9% efficient compared to the NBA average (and he is the ROY !!!!).

The Spurs need to bring some vets because they need to win now and reach the playoffs (the Spurs are only beaten by Charlotte for the number of years without playoff).

The 14th pick is very valuable in this draft because at this level, you can draft very high potential but raw players that you will need to develop. Only a team who is tanking can give playing time to this kind of very unefficient players.
Trading the 14th pick is very obvious this summer because it can be the main asset to bring a good vet from a rebuilding team (Cam Johnson from Nets, Trey Murphy from Pels, John Collins from Jazz,…).

  2. Vassell has reached his ceiling in San Antonio (pray for us). Vassell is not a come off the bench player. He has to be a starter and a 2nd or 3rd option, and he will NEVER be that on this Spurs team b/c Wemby-Fox-Castle, and KD if he shows up, are the options. And then there is Harper. So Vassell is the obvious odd man out in a KD trade.

  3. Is KD to the Spurs back on? He is years past his prime and an injury away from retirement. Give 'em Vassell and Keldon (and Pick 14 if you must). But don't give up ring-holder Barnes and his leadership; and don't extend KD more than $40mill/year. Spurs have other max extensions coming due soon. Maybe CP3 comes back if KD shows up.

  4. If the Spurs go ahead and draft Harper, which I still believe is mistake, then he can gain experience for a couple of years by coming off the bench and running the second unit.

But what happened to Castle wanting to be a team's PG?
