nervous when it surrounds the NBA draft Now all these words are being thrown about and we we mentioned that yesterday that both sides the Sixers the agents the players everybody they’re all playing the game right now But apparently Keith it goes all the way to the top Our good governor of the state of Pennsylvania the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is now saying that he doesn’t want Ace Bailey Keith said “Oh no.” Quote “It is it is not good when you don’t show up for work and he didn’t show up for his workout with the Sixers.” So Governor Josh Shapiro he’s out Keith how much does this influence your decision on who the Sixers should take not at all Zero I mean I mean my thing is and and and the quote was was cool It’s like I’m worried about that If you’re not coming to work out then you got something wrong here You know what I mean i’ve already sent a message about that So you I mean oh I guess he you know he I don’t know who he sent the message to If he sent the message to the Sixers I mean or maybe he’s just speaking but if he sent it to the Sixers I’m a little concerned you know I’m a little concerned that you know people like that outside can pe outsiders can influence Now again I get it He is the governor but at the same time I I don’t like it Um here’s the deal Like the one thing that everybody needs to know is that this isn’t uncommon for people now for people to cancel workouts Now again it’s not one of those things that are made public you know and and things like that but there are a lot of times when players refuse to work out for certain teams but this one is getting out of hand and and I get it It’s just really getting out of hands because turn is actually turning into the the circus before the draft It’s a joke I mean no one even cares about fit or anything It’s just all about well he didn’t work out He didn’t work out for anyone Anyone anyone Yeah That I think that’s and that’s a huge part of it as well This isn’t like he worked out for everybody else and just not the Sixers Then I think you have Oh that’s the biggest red flag of red flags at least to the Sixers He didn’t even work out It’s not the Chris Apps Porzingis situation where he worked out for other teams and basically told the Sixers “Yeah okay No thanks.” you know but the idea of the governor saying that I think I know that who he’s talking to He’s talking to voters that want to hear from their governor Well if you don’t come to work then you’re not you know you got to go to work you got to work hard and all that stuff That’s that’s who he’s talking to The And look yes is he a basketball fan absolutely Good for him But as far as everything else goes I can’t remember a time Keith where there was ever this much drama and to use your word this much of a circus about a third overall pick Like the first pick gets that but they look at Cooper Flag they look at Duke they look at a guy that checks all the boxes like “Ah he’s fine.” They look at Dylan Harper like son of an NBA player Uh you know a lot of success with the Bulls obviously Ron Harper h he’ll be fine But now I guess Ace Bailey is the easy bait for everybody else to just say whatever the hell they damn well please And I don’t think it’s just here in Philadelphia This isn’t just highlighted because it’s a Philadelphia pick here in Philly Everybody’s talking about this The national scale ESPN we talked about two stories One in in which revealed the nervous word about a nervous workout that VJ Edgecom had Then with Ace Bailey you listen to Brian Winhorse say he that he’s a dangerous player and any GM that takes him better feel quote very safe in his job So why is VJ why has more so than any anybody why has Ace Bailey a third overall pick in your opinion become this lightning rod of a conversation i think a lot of it has to do with his representation I do I mean I do I I feel like if he was represented by CIA which is a reparable agency by Clutch Sports by Bill Duffy by uh Bartlestein a lot of other people I don’t think that we would get this Now first of all I think that he may probably get a little bit more advice but at the same time when you have a small time agency um there people there’s really not a lot lot of retribution for when you crash it when you kill a kid So I feel like if this was Clutch Sports or if it was um you know Clutch Sports is run by Rich Paul I feel like Rich Paul would say to these people like “Yo back up off my guy.” This is the instance and it would go on and then next thing you know a lot of things wouldn’t be said I’m going be honest with you That’s how I feel Now again are there certain things that this guy could have done better yes But the crazy part about it is it’s one of those things is no one would have batted an eye if we did not know that he had a workout schedule right now The thing is so he has a workout schedule but as it was said was you remember it was one of those things where it was like he did he he declined to work out for him in the beginning then all of a sudden VJ Edgecom works out for him right and then all of a sudden he does not all of a sudden he he he wants to work out But all that time we’re getting word that VJ Edgecomb is the guy that the 76ers are targeting Well then they say “Well you want him to work out Does that mean you’re going to draft him?” Uh um uh uh uh okay not coming So to me what that says is that there is a team below that said “Hey don’t work out for anyone because we are going to take you Don’t work out for anyone because we are going to take you.” And if the Sixers don’t have their mind made up then not we’re not going to do it And also here’s the thing like Chris Pingz did not want to work out for the 76ers because he felt as if that they made promises to Nerland Noel that they didn’t that they didn’t come through with They had the same representation So guess what happened he didn’t want to come So now you look at it you have a kid where his agent is saying “Look we got other teams where this guy could be the man but if he comes to Philly he’s probably going to be standing in the corner trying to do catch and shoots and we don’t want any parts of that.” So to me while it sounds crazy that’s also the agent’s job to get their client in the best possible situation to help extend their career So there’s a lot of stuff going on but I honestly think that if he was with Bill Duffy Sports if he was with Clutch Sports if he was with uh uh CIA it wouldn’t like we wouldn’t hear as much stuff that we’re hearing coming out now All right so here’s my question with all that His mother played basketball in college Ace Bailey’s mother played basketball in college His father was a a college basketball player if I’m not mistaken his aunt played for Team USA the W women’s Team USA These are all people that play basketball at pretty high level Yeah Is this the advice they would give too or are they just stepping back and saying “Well this is what the agents doing That’s why we brought them in and that’s that.” Because I would think that people played that people that play basketball at that high a level would have some insight as to maybe another way to go about this Yeah I I don’t know when it comes down to what’s going on like you know you I I don’t know Maybe like again if there’s a team that says we’re going to guarantee you we’re not working out I mean think about this Matis Thel was selected at what 22 or 24 Yeah But but they had to trade up to get him Now think about that A guy that late in the first round you tend to think that hey bro you need to work out for people But he had a promise that he was going in the first round he was going to slide somewhere So number 24 he was promised that he was going to fall at number 24 no matter what So guess what he decided not to work out So you know what I mean so I I you know and and here’s the thing His you know he his agent was uh the good ones right the the good one But nobody nobody criticized him Now typically people are like “Yo you mean to tell me you’re a late first round pick and you refuse to work out for people?” That’s that that that’s crazy He didn’t do that So you know I mean I I don’t know I You got to get more um you got to get more you know more intel Right now no one’s saying anything but but it is what it is you know It just is what it is As far as the inner circle goes you mean from a bail yeah I I I just I do find it fascinating and like I just can’t remember a time where the third overall pick was being talked about like he was number one And again it’s not just here in Philly It’s not like we’re focused on the third overall pick Ace Bailey has been linked to that forever It’s it’s everywhere Everyone’s got an opinion on going to start out with one that I think is is is possible I’m not going to say highly likely but it’s possible Sixers do not have a bevy of picks They do not have some kind of uh you know pick cash that they have all these picks and they got basically nothing next year They have nothing next year So in the idea that the Sixers need to get some picks assets for next year I think one of the best case scenarios that is possible that not but not likely is that they do end up trading back Now why do I say it’s not likely well because I think Daryl Mory’s seat is hot enough where it’s not necessarily investing in the future And I don’t think Ace Bailey is going to fall far enough back in order for the Sixers to get him And I still believe he is their number one target But I do think it is somewhat possible that the Sixers trade back to get another asset and still get Ace Bailey say maybe at five with Utah maybe even at eight not likely but possibly with the Nets if they make a deal there What do you think uh of that scenario as the third best case scenario for the Sixers where they still get the player they maybe want in Ace Bailey and also get future assets down the line as well in a trade back scenario Yeah that’s a great You said the third best scenario Third That’s the third of of three Yeah I have a top Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah I I think that’s a a a great um scenario because then you get him and then you can al you you also possibly I’m I’m pretty sure if you trade in back to number five um you you’re probably going to ask for a veteran player as well right so if you can get a veteran player I mean I think that’s great And then also you know we we look at it Utah has what two first round picks So I mean I I think that Yeah that’s a Yeah Yeah I I believe that’s a great third op um third scenario third best scenario because yeah you can get an additional player You may be able to get a veteran player and then you’re really the H Bailey thing becomes less of a gamble if for the people who think it is because you have other assets that came along with that Yeah I really like that one Yeah the thing I’m the thing I’m ranking this really on is the likelihood Like I don’t think this scenario is highly likely All right I think it’s it’s still the best If you’re still able to get the player that you really want and you get future assets and a veteran player as well involved in the deal what’s better than that and and yes I I think that’s a perfect you’re you’re essentially getting Ace Bailey insurance You’re essentially getting even VJ Edgecom who checked all the boxes even including Ner even if you get uh Trey Johnson you’re getting pick insurance where well you know what when that draft happened you know Ace Bailey was a bust edgecomb was a bust Trey Johnson was a bust but at least they also got that first round pick next year you know it’s that kind of thing that’s the that’s the insurance of the pick Now the the next one here that I still think is one of the best case scenarios for this for the 76ers is very simple and I also think it’s more likely is that they stay at number three and they take VJ Edge Uh we’ve talked mostly about Ace Bailey so I guess most people can assume where we’re going next but I look I really like VJ Edge I also really like Trey Johnson He’s close up I do like You do Now again this is number two working our way up to number one I still think you get him You are getting an NBA ready player I do love his explosiveness He’s not the number one guy I want but I’m like all right this at least I think this guy is coming into the NBA ready to ball and he’s also taking it very seriously For all the question marks and red flags we might have about somebody else we look at a guy like BJ Edgecom that has you know the good head on his shoulders the work ethic showed up to work so you know the gov loves him had a apparently a really good meeting with Tyrese Maxi which is far more important uh you’re you’re getting the guy that I think most Philadelphiaians would want to put on that Sixers jersey being that he simply not only had a good college career uh not only has a a great work ethic uh but also has the ability as they say to jump out of the gym Like he is just a very aggressive player He’s a he’s a heady player He loves to attack the rim His physical ability his his athleticism is off the charts great I think that’s a very good place for the Sixers to stay at three and just take him Um that’s a likely scenario I see playing out Still not the best case scenario but I think that’s the second best scenario for the 76ers That’s also likely Do you not like VJ Edgecomb i mean I like him but he still has some holes I think the second base best scenario for the Sixers Now again and this isn’t a knock at Edgecomb he could be a good guy for them but at the same time I feel like if you get him you probably won’t get I mean it may be tough for Quinton Grimes to come back and you still need to fulfill other needs To me the second best scenario is that the 76ers either tonight or it’s going to have to be tonight is that they have a meeting with Ace Belly in New York and they get the and they and they get everything uh clarified what’s going on right and then they walk away feeling a little bit feeling confident that this is the guy for him right and they have a plan in place for him because of some of the things that he can do Personally I feel like he’s the best fit for that team Now again this is only if they the Sixers have a meeting with him and they feel 100% comfortable with him moving forward To me that’s the second best second best case All right Now I I now my my number one that I also think is likely is they just they just say the hell with everything else Ace Bailey is our pick at number three That’s I think the most likely and I also think the best case scenario I think that’s the perfect mix of likely and and actually works out for the Sixers So what’s your number one well my number one probably isn’t likely but but my is not But what it is trade trade the third pick for Giannis well no I mean like my is hope and pray that you can possibly maybe get a third team involved or some way somehow and you can convince you can convince the San Antonio Spurs to give up that number two pick right if the Spurs can get something from another team or whatever I mean I don’t know how happy I mean how likely that is I don’t think it is at all And then you can go up there and get um Dylan Harper Dylan Harper To me to me that’s the Now again we don’t know how likely is but you’re asking me best case scenario Best case scenario with a with a smattering of likeliness I like it Yeah I mean you know to me that would be the best case scenario honestly I mean because there’s only two guys who in this draft that don’t have red flags or question marks right and and the reason why I’m saying red flags and question marks because everyone doesn’t have a red flag and every but everyone has a question mark Right Right Um so so so so my thing is I feel like that’s the best case scenario for the Sixers I love that I love because like look this whole time we’ve been talking about Ace Bailey What I have said like the best player that’s going to be available all right at three I still think that is Ace Bailey But if you’re telling me that there’s a chance and again this is a combination best case scenarios of things that could happen likely maybe not be totally likely to happen but could happen So not out of the range of possibility a realm of possibility You’re telling me Dylan Harper like a true blue point guard could come onto this team and Tyrese Maxi doesn’t have to be that guy anymore I love that I absolutely love that scenario for the 76ers and I think that could be the uh the best case I think that’s the I think that’s the one that hits it out of the park man That’s from Keith Pompei from the logo people couple 30 point games there for your 76ers and really leading the charge in the final quarter of the season as the official tank began Quinton Grimes certainly got his for the Sixers Where do you think the Sixers are right now with Quinton Grimes in terms of resigning him to Philadelphia i mean you know he’s one of those guys that they want to resign but I also think a lot of it has to do with the draft And then secondly you know what type of money is out there you know it’s one of those things when you’re a restricted free agent it’s kind of sort of like when I mean he’s he’s more of a higher priority than Paul Reed was but you know from from my understanding what Daryl my typically likes to do now everybody knew that he was going to get Maxi the Max So people didn’t even want to like make you know go out there and waste their money because they knew that he was going to get the Max right that was that was out there But typically what Daryl my likes to do in the past is he likes to let the market determine what you’re worth Now again they do have an idea but you know let’s just say if if somebody offers Quinton Grimes 15 million well then it’s up to Daryl Murray to determine if that’s what they want to match or not right or something like that So I feel like when you have a guy like Quinton Grimes right now the the focus now again you know you can talk to him now but I think right now the focus is on the draft but then after that it’s kind of sort of like okay let’s see what the other teams are willing to give you and then we’ll take it take it from there Because that’s the difference between being a a free agent and a restrictive free agent a regular one Because the other ones is like okay they made me this offer I’mma agree to it Well yeah you can come back and get an offer You and you can you know say hey like this is what I have and Daryl my x amount of hours to match it or not or days to match it or not So it’s no rush In other words you know what I mean it’s like you’re just going to build your team focus on other people and then you come back and say “All right this is what I’mma do.” Now who knows if they feel like he’s a high priority they could do it sooner but at the same time I feel like it’s going to be something that you know they’re going to let another team determine what it is and then they’ll take it from there Yeah it’s it’s a wild thing when you talk about his his money because I know we talked about Gershon Yabisle as if oh my god can the Sixers really not even afford Gershon Yabis is that the world we’re in now and now if the Sixers do take another guard in this draft can they even afford Quinton Grimes and the potential for a log jam at the guard position whether it’s shooting or point guard uh can they even afford that kind of log jam if they do bring back Quinton Grimes and can they afford to do both draft a guard and resign Quinton Grimes both from a money perspective and then also from a playing time perspective Exactly And like a lot like it’s funny I have a friend um who he hit me up and he was like “Man the Sixers need to do with with uh OKC and and what um the Indiana Pacers are doing They have a plethora of guards and they all play well together.” Well the the difference is that you know and at Indiana their two highest paid players are making 42 million right whereas the Sixers have over 150 million tied up to three players right so about 150 So when you have that or 100 it’s actually 148.9 But when you when you have that it’s hard for you to go out there and give everybody 10 million five dudes 10 million You just can’t do that And and so it’s like you just don’t have the assets So with that being said it’s harder when you have three max players harder for you to possibly retain a Quinton Grimes if you have if you’re going to draft another guard because at that point you have to do roster construction Who’s going to be your power forward who’s going to be your backup for like you don’t know and and then that’s when you lose out on a guy like Yabuselli because in his instance situation is different because all it takes is a team to say “Okay we’re going to give him we’re going to overpay for him and it’s something that the 76ers can’t match.” So that’s the hard part with the Sixers right there All right All right I want to go back to our previous topic because this is blowing my mind when it comes to the the idea of trading up or trading back for the trading up getting Dylan Harper trading back and maybe still getting uh Ace Bailey Now the the the big mix in this question is possible to happen This isn’t outlandish Like for instance an example of outlandish I think is Sixers pack is the third overall pick and Joel Embiid and send it somewhere else Like I don’t there’s I don’t think there’s a world where that happens But in the realm of possibility here do you think it’s more likely that the Sixers trade up or do you think it’s more like Now this isn’t a prediction This is just saying more possible to happen possible to trade up or possible to trade back What do you think is more likely for the Sixers to do would be more likely to trade back because I don’t right now I don’t think the that’s why when I said the Sixers would have to get a third team involved possibly to help him out The Sixers just don’t have the assets to go up and get a Dylan Harper Like maybe there are other teams that have other assets that could but when you look at the Sixers they don’t like you know the you’re not going to trade Maxi Um McCain is someone that teams are would would go out and get but at the same time you know it it’s really like the Sixers don’t have the assets comparable to other teams So to me it’s more likely to trade back than it would be to trade up Gotcha All right Fair enough Keith I know you’re going to be uh up there in New York Look forward to talking to you Now you also said there’s a possibility the Sixers and Ace Bailey’s camp meet tonight potentially Well what I what I’m saying is I’m like what I’m saying is that would be the second best case scenario for me is that they find a way to meet because I’m not saying that they have a meeting scheduled I’m not saying that at all But what I am saying is that it has happened in the past especially with the Sixers Like Andre Eiguala did not want to work out for the 76ers but the night before the draft the 76ers had a meeting with Andre Iguodala where they felt comfortable enough after that meeting to draft them And you’ve heard stories in the past that the night before the draft in New York that teams would go out there and meet with players and then they would make their final decision So to me that’s what I’m saying Second case scenario is that if they could arrange a meeting and then they could possibly come to an agreement or think that they feel safe with drafting him I feel like that would be the second case second best scenario You know what I mean so I’m not I’m not saying that they they’re doing it but I’m saying that in my opinion that would be the second you know second best scenario So I assume you’re just going to New York
