Miami Heat Make Davion Mitchell Qualifying Offer | Keshad Johnson Has Contract Picked Up For Season

hey welcome on in guys tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel if you guys could subscribe that’d be great and appreciate you stopping by we got more trade action uh today as we find out that the Pelicans are trading for Jordan Pool jordan Pool is getting traded to the Pelicans and in exchange Kelly Ool Lin and CJ McCullum are heading to the Wizards both on expiring deals apparently this is going to set the Wizards up for over 100 million in Caspay next summer um Sadique Bay also going back to the Pelicans along I believe with a second round pick bay missed all of last year guy’s a heat killer uh good shooter but uh missed all of last year I believe with a torn ACL so he is heading to New Orleans to team up with Zion giving him a little bit more shooting around him they’re really trying to optimize that team around Williamson and see what he can do uh the Heat we got some roster moves for them today the first piece of business is DaVon Mitchell davon Mitchell was offered a one-year qualifying offer for the Heat for 8.7 million what that does is it gives Miami the opportunity in restricted free agency to match any deal that he gets um he could just sign the one-year deal like if he if he doesn’t get any offers and he’s just like all right he can uh return to the Heat on a one-year $8.7 million deal he’s most likely going to go out and get an offer sheet from somebody and then the he will have the decision on whether or not they want to match that or not had Anthony Chang on the radio show today from the Miami Herald and we talked about DaVon and he was saying uh kind of in the same respect that I was like I don’t know what DaVon Mitchell’s going to make uh the full midlevel is a little over 14 million so is that the possibility he was saying that he had heard from some way back before the playin that it could have been you know not even half of what that was um but then obviously he played better in the playin so there really is a tough gauge with DaVon Mitchell i’m like I was kind of fully expecting like I feel like it’s going to be more in that range the 14ish than it is going to be in like I I feel like people are sitting here being like “Oh he’s going to sign for you know eight a year.” And I’m just like I don’t think that’s going to happen i just think he’s he’s too solid a player people saw his ability he seems like a guy who could play in the playoffs especially a guy who could defend heat gave him a little bit of opportunity more because the knock on him obviously couldn’t shoot a lick he shot well with the Miami Heat um you know was it a fluke was it a hot run was it comfortability was it confidence they were breathing into him i think everybody came out of here out of last year a year where everybody is pretty down on the team and you know down on most of the guys on the roster but not him i think DaVon Mitchell I guess I’ll put it like this few guys came out of last year with people wanting to buy stock in a player and I would say the guys that they did were Khal Wear and probably DaVon Mitchell i would put Nico in there but Nico ended the year hurt people got very mad at him for the end of that game too against Cleveland even though he’s one of the reasons that it was even a game um but Dave I think earned a lot of respect from fans he obviously was huge in those playin games whether he wanted to be in them or not i mean once they were in them he was an absolute monster in them and I just seems like he’s about the right stuff i mean guy walks around with a basketball will walk around town in his jersey it just seems like as a as a hoops junkie and I understand why the Miami Heat would want this guy back like it just seems like he’s so Miami Heat he is he’s so bluecollar um and and can just fit in the right way absolute terrifying on defense so I I’m excited for the idea of DaVon Mitchell having a future with the Miami Heat and it’ll be interesting to see what that is going to look like um I think he was at Heat Cam this week but I don’t know if he did media like that’s an optional thing for guys so he may not have wanted to address stuff that he’s already addressed but you have seen like he has been we’ve talked about this on the channel about like he’s been basically in the facility working out non-stop basically since I think what took two days off and was back right in there with the season just ending so uh big fan of DaVon Mitchell would love to see him continue his career with the Heat and so they take their first step of that today do I think anybody’s going to come in with a wild offer that the Heat would be too scared to sign i don’t think so i don’t think so but I also like I like I like Anthony and I were talking about like I don’t have a great gauge on what the hell he’s going to make in this next contract you and maybe he could do something similar to like what uh Caleb did which is like a one-on-one which maybe maybe he signs a one year with a one option and is like I’m going to do it one more time i didn’t love the offers i’ll prove myself again and then you know say you don’t make the mistake that you know Martin’s agents did but set yourself up for a more lucrative multi-year deal if that’s out there for him or maybe he’ll get it just now uh I don’t know the other piece of news for Miami they rounded out some of the uh the end of roster guys they guaranteed Keshaw Johnson’s contract for next year which I’m really really excited about um another player who you know yes spent most of his time playing in the G-League eyepopping dunks dudes built like a freaking moose wingspan for days um and was teammates with Pella Larson in college got him undrafted i think the Heat were a little surprised that they were able to get him undrafted but they uh they are bringing him back and that to me is I think this is what’s going to be exciting he’s going to be playing in summer league with Pella uh the reward was today that KL Wear was going to get some some time this summer to me that’s really exciting um because it’s not only the first year that you do summer league and this is obviously a def this was the highest vibes we had all year the defending summer league champions but then it’s like that next year I don’t know how much Kell will play and so that would lead me to believe like I would bet Kell plays a little bit and then it’s going to be more on Pella and Keshad and you know they did that with Max Strus the year where like he really took off and Max was like the guy and Summer had like a buzzer beater that team wasn’t as stacked as last year’s team was but I feel like you’re going to see a little bit more of that of like hey we’re going to rely on Keshot and Pella and whoever the 20th pick ends up being and we’ll see what that rolls out they’ll be I would bet like a few Keller games but the Heat aren’t going to play their starting center every single game i I just I I would be surprised by that um the other piece of news uh Drew Smith got a qualifying offer so he’s a restricted free agent uh had that terrible Achilles injury um which has become all too prevalent of an injury around the NBA so Drew Smith we know Spose a huge fan of Drew Smith and that coincided with another thing which was Isaiah Stevens was not offered uh a deal and so he’ll become an unrestricted free agent he uh he was on a two-way with Miami last year and he is uh he is expected according to the Miami Herald to play for the summer league team as well and potentially could come back on a two-way so Isaiah Stevens could be back with you know the the the Heat Sky Force facilitating kind of a true point guard on the smaller side um but also was a big piece in that that team that that won summer last year and I think though with Drew on the mend and if he’s not right i mean Drew’s Achilles injury was a little bit earlier so hopefully he’ll be good to go be interesting to see uh it’ll be interesting to talk to Drew about like what his recovery was like because that has become such a uh such a crazy uh such a such a crazy epidemic with with the NBA as far as any guys making their way back from it but the Heat have a lot of uh a lot of love for Drew Smith defends his ass off sets his teammates off and and and really grew in his offensive role last year so I’m sure he’s got some rust to knock off but um you know was found a valuable plays before he got hurt last year and then the other move was Josh Christopher um he is not eligible for a two-way contract because he’s going into his fourth season and so he’s an unrestricted free agent which would mean the Heat would have to give him a standard uh a standard contract which I don’t think they have right now after they have their draft i think they’re going to be at their limit I guess unless they just cut Duncan Robinson and that’ll be the only method but Christopher’s obviously like he’s tried to make his way with the Miami Heat he was also very big on that summer league team feel like I’m on repeat with that but um you know never really got that opportunity or showcased like wo a a moment last year like the other guys did so uh I don’t know what his future what the what the future holds for Josh Christopher and the Miami Heat but um you know certainly seemed like he was about all the right stuff last year and and trying to make his way with the uh with the franchise so there you have uh the deals mitchell qualifying offer keshad he’s back next year drew Smith eligible to come back that he’d have the right to to match don’t know what the offers are going to be like for Drew Smith and Isaiah Stevens looks like uh he’s going to be in the system but not necessarily uh not necessarily back on the team as of right now we’ll also have to see like what players are out there does anybody pop in the summer league you know we saw that those deals shifted a little bit last year as well so you got to keep an eye on that he would like to keep their flexibility with that as well but uh Josh Christopher no longer eligible to be that way so very uh very busy day as far as the end of roster stuff for Miami i’m sure that gets everybody buzzing i actually am very excited about this i can’t wait keith’s the one I’m most excited about and I say that a big DV Mitchell fan but I I really I I I hope that this is going to be like a big breakout season for Keshot Johnson and helping this Miami Heat team and that he can find a role i think that uh I think it’s just he’s one of those guys like it’s it’s impossible be based on his infectious energy um and his dunks my god his dunks i mean Kesha Johnston’s dunks they are a sight to behold um so just based on that the energy uh what I you know the size that he has you think you know can provide something for this Miami Heat team i’m now that he’s got a year under his belt in the system I’m excited to see how the Heat and Lee just turned 24 yesterday so like yeah this is going to be a year where like hey if he’s going to do something in the NBA and the Miami Heat feel like there something there this is probably going to be the year they’re going to hope to see something out of him so I’m glad that the Miami Heat bringing him
