Shams: Kyrie Irving DECLINES player option, will sign 3-year deal with Mavs | SC with SVP

to the NBA where a day after moving the veteran Drew Holiday the Celtics have traded another key piece of the 24 title team sham Shirana reporting they’re sending Kristoff Sporzing and a second round pick to Atlanta while Terrence Man and Atlanta’s number 22 pick head to the Brooklyn Nets finally George Nang and a second rounder land in Boston so a lot of movement in advance of Wednesday’s draft the trade means that Brooklyn now has five count them five first round picks which would be an all-time record if they were to make all five selections you got to believe that they’re going to be used in some sort of movement but you never know celtics have saved 180 million in tax penalties between this trade and the Drew Holiday trade 140 from this one alone hawks meanwhile get a player in Porzingis who has a career-high 41% from three last season john Shiran I told you as we talked before the show you can’t escape your bald-headed friend we were together a lot during the finals i enjoyed a chance to be around you a bunch and now we get a chance to dive into the offseason and I know you’re never sleeping as Boston moves Drew they move Porzingis we’re sh we’re saving some money but you got to have some money as it relates to Jaylen Brown what is what does this potentially mean if we connect the dots about his future with Boston Scott it means them phone lines are ringing in Boston uh my understanding is the Celtics are getting offers calls on both Jaylen Brown and Derek White the Celtics have high price thresholds for both players we know how great Jaylen Brown and Derek White are so I’m sure they’re getting some massive offers some pretty big time calls as well their preference has been to keep both players but this is a team that’s still in the first apron still a luxury tax team still dealing with the uncertainty of Jason Tatum status next season so at minimum I expect Sam Hower Anthony Simons’s names that will be discussed will a team match that price threshold that the Celtics I’m told have set around the league for Jaylen Brown and Derek White to be able to get them They are listening but will a team get there Just in the span of the last two days Scott though they’ve shed $180 million in luxury tax savings they’ve gotten out of the Second Apron but with a season next year full of uncertainty just how much do they want to get out of these aprons and the taxes Well and this is this is the the the new CBA come to life right This is creating the opportunities for smaller markets and and other teams to like we just saw in the finals get to that big stage as it relates to a former Celtic it’s Kyrie Irving you reported that he intends to decline a player option and and sign for the long term three years with Dallas what more can you tell us about this one Scott I spoke to Kyrie Irving just a few moments ago and he told me his decision to return and stay in Dallas was largely based on commitment not only from him but the Mavericks as well and wanting to build a real legacy in Dallas and even more than that his belief in this team’s ability when he’s healthy and whole again potentially in January and February and beyond over the next three years to compete for a championship around him Anthony Davis soon to be number one overall pick uh Cooper Flag and the leadership there Jason Kidd Nico Harrison and former owner Mark Cuban but this was a beneficial deal Scott for both sides because the numbers that he’s signing for it allows the Mavericks to have the taxpayer mid-level exception and why is that important It’s important because they need to find a point guard that they can that they can bring in that can play as a starter while Kyrie Irving is out and I’m told two names to keep an eye on there d’angelo Russell and Malcolm Brogden so Kyrie Irving is there for the long haul there were some settlements made to allow the Mavericks some flexibility we’ll see what they do over the next couple weeks i know what you’re going to be doing over the next couple hours and days that’s going to be working those phone lines i’ll have my ears out as all of our viewers will as well as you break no I know i I know we’ll talk to you soon man be well you learned last time Mark Williams yeah don’t do it again don’t do it again [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

Shams Charania joins SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt to detail Kyrie Irving declining his player option and agreeing to a 3-yr/$119M deal to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. He also touches on the Boston Celtics recently trading Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers and Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.

  1. Kyrie should have went to the Lakers would be cool if we could trade lebron somewhere… anywhere. Just get him away from luka because I dont want bron coat tailing on a luka ring

  2. shams says anyone and everyone in the nba is on the trade table just so he can have a job..

  3. Mavs aint winning nothing as long as they have AD. He will never be able to stay healthy enough for them to compete for a title

  4. This is not news. There is no market that would pay that much for an injured Kyrie that did nothing for the Nets and was a cancer for Boston. He was a no show for the finals vs Celtics while a 'fat' Luka willed the team to the finals. Kyrie took advantage of Nico's poor choice to trade Luka and saying what is left is a championship caliber team – of course he wouldnt let Kyrie leave – it would make his choice look stupid. AD is stuck having to prove his worth since he was the prize for getting rid of Luka.
