TRADE BREAKDOWN 🚨 Jordan Poole traded to Pelicans for CJ McCollum | NBA on ESPN

all right happy Tuesday evening hopefully everyone is doing great i am in the uh business center of the Brooklyn Marriott i would say the uh the decor on the uh on the walls are not up to snuff and I apologize for doing a late videos here we had two trades that uh were um broken during the day one was at uh I think at 311 uh right in the middle when we were on um doing NBA today that was the CJ McComem uh Wizards Pelicans trade and then uh right before our NBA pre-draft show uh the big Christophs Porzingis trade three three team trade so I figured we would um we would talk about as far as um what the semantics are we’re going to do uh we’ll do two separate videos here certainly we’ll start with New Orleans since it was first uh this trade is will not happen on until July 6th and the reason why is that uh the Wizards were still in the 2024 25 season they are hardcapped at the first apron um they are not allowed to do this because they’re taking more money back they would be exceeding the apron here um remember the Malcolm Brogman contract will come off next year um the cap will increase and as the cap increases the apron levels increase here um so this is not a uh this is not a ju a June whatever 26 27 trade this is a July 6 trade so you have to wait um new uh New Orleans gets Jordan Pool 31834 um he’s got 4.25 in uh unlikely bonuses that’s a big number because remember that applies to the apron no matter what and you they get Sadi Bay at 61 and 64 uh BA’s got $333,000 in bonuses unlikely that applies to the apron it is an interesting trade because they are trading away a um two expiring contracts excuse me man and it’s I guess it’s somewhat similar although Jordan Pool is considerably younger um to what do we got Twitter um is that they basically punted away some flexibility for next year based in taking back Jordan Pool um in City Bay who’s on a really good contract you know listen Jordan Pool gets a big time knock on him he actually had a really a I don’t want to say really good pretty good season um in uh in Washington last year and I think when you when he’s going into the situation he is with New Orleans he doesn’t have to be the number one or number two guy you have uh we’ll see when DeJonte Murray comes back from his injury you have Dejante Murray you have Jordan Pool you have Trey Murphy you have Herb Jones you have Zion we’ll see what they do in the draft um remember 723 and um they have 40 which is from uh from the Wizards that pick will not get um it will it will be announced as um as Washington but it will not h become finalized as I said and I hate that rule i wish we I wish we would do free agency first and then we would do the draft because all this stuff and it’s confusing on TV we would all have it figured out let’s push summer I’m going on a rant now let’s push summer league back let’s start free agency on July 1 let’s have the draft on July 15th and let’s have summer league like the like the last like like April August 1 and do something like that i just hate how the rules are right now um Washington gets um I’m sorry uh New Orleans is $8 million below the tax there is no uh apron um uh there is there is no um restriction as far as for the Pelicans um from a um from a salary standpoint wait a minute hold on one second i believe they are uh no there’s no restriction there um when you are looking at it from um New Orleans standpoint um I’m sorry from Washington standpoint they get two expiring contracts cj McCullum at 30.7 13.4 million they’re first apron team because they’re taking back more money and they aggregated contracts going out i need to look at the New Orleans thing and it’s extremely late right now i believe they’re because of the uh the aggregation um the aggregation rule that they are going to be hardcaped that second April but that’s really semantics here i got I need to look at that um the Wizards uh are going to have $100 million in salary cap space next year it’s going to be interesting as far as what direction they go in this is the 2026 offseason let me just circle back real quick new Orleans also creates a 13.4 million trade exception um the Wizards have a ton of expiring contracts cj McCollum at 30.7 Kelly Olen at 13.4 they’ve got Rashawn Holmes they’ve got Marcus Smart they’ve got Chris Middleton remember they keep their pick if it’s top eight um protected um they also have the rights to swap with Phoenix if it stays in the top eight it is a priority to keep that uh pick certainly next year um they do have some flexibility they’re $17.3 million below the first apron there is the flexibility there to still do some moves uh we will see i It’s hard for me to say that they’re going to be a triple a double max team next year i think it’s the continual process of letting these players develop the young players they’re going to add six and 18 to Bal Koulabali and Alex Sar and Bub Carrington um and that Cory Kispert certainly that young core in uh in Washington it’s going to be a huge offseason from a developmental standpoint um so that is it a little bit from a the Wizards New Orleans trade um it we’ll see where this Pelicans team goes it’s going to be interesting whenever you have new uh leadership with Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver um it is interesting because we’re in a little bit of an arms race right now as far as teams trying to I don’t want to say up the Annie but it does give them probably improves them i like Sadi Bay who hasn’t played in in over a year it does give them a different look and I’m telling you Jordan Pool as your fourth or fifth option um is a good good value here and we’ll see with as I said with Washington does certainly at the draft both teams at the draft and with uh with flexibility moving forward we will talk soon um have a good night we will uh we’ll talk soon [Music]

  1. Great trade for both. CJ will be a fantastic vet for them. They clear cap to get more picks in ‘26. And if he performs this year, they might be able to get a rental flip at the deadline.

Poole a great fit in New Orleans. PG while Dejounte works back, and they can play together once Dejounte is back OR Pels can bring him off the bench and keep Herb starting. Poole matured a lot last year. I think w Dumars fixing the culture and him knowing he’s playing for his next contract now and has to respond to the whole selfish-chucker-label to do it, this could really work. Tough cap situation in New Orleans tho. They gotta be praying Maluach falls to them at 7….

  2. The Wizards made a trade that is good for them. Huh…. I guess hell has frozen over. All those girls in my life who said they wouldn't sleep with me until Hell freezes over…..I call on you to fulfill your vow.

  3. RIP to CJ McCullum. Washington is where NBA players careers go to die. Not even memeing here, the Wizards should get demoted to the G League.

  4. More about logistics and freeing cap space. Similar players in terms of styles and level so it really doesn’t make a difference court wise.
