Hornets Trade Mark Williams to the Suns | 2025 NBA Draft Reaction

been so excited okay here we have it the Charlotte Hornets are trading Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns for 29 tonight and then a 2029 first round pick okay so not not only are we getting Man but we’re also getting Mark Williams there’s your front court of the future Phoenix Suns i have word we can go to Jake Fischer fish please help us make sense of this what is going on i’m trying to sift through if Malawatch is actually gonna stay in in Phoenix but there’s defin I mean Mark Williams is going to the Suns and as you guys were talking about uh about the need for Phoenix to have a center that’s been consistent throughout I mean from the moment Phoenix ended their season short of the playin tournament they obviously moved Yousef Nerkitz to Charlotte uh previously and took back N Richards from Charlotte in a separate deal there is some clear synergy between the Suns front office and the Hornets front office making these trades i am getting Yes okay so Kamalatch is going to stay in Phoenix right now and the Suns just in a massive you know twoman punch get their their two centers of the future mark Williams if everyone probably remembers shocking deal at the very end of the trade deadline in February with the Lakers for Dalton Connect and a couple of firsts and then the Lakers ultimately rescended that deal due to Mark Williams’ medical i’d say Mark Williams being a potential trade candidate was something that everyone in the league to use a funny expression had on their bingo card but it wasn’t really out there until I got word about it like literally two minutes before news broke and I think it’s not surprising being that just think about it on a human level mark Williams basically got broken up with by the one family he knew like they put him in a different home and then they had to welcome him back and I think everyone was professional about the situation but I know Mark Williams’ side of things they were always looking and kind of hoping I think that he would get moved again this summer it’s just an awkward suboptimal situation right to go back to a team that you were supposed to be the franchise center the center of the future and all of a sudden they kind of went behind your back and traded you to the Lakers and then welcomed you back and in theory Charlotte to my understanding at the time thought they were doing right by Mark sending him to LA like why not put a 23-year-old kid in Los Angeles to star next to Luca Donic and LeBron James would have been a great opportunity for Mark Williams right but of course didn’t happen and now he gets in probably a way better situation in terms of runway for you know growth and not necessarily having a win now next to a 40-year-old LeBron James like I think that timeline situation makes more sense and to bring it back to Phoenix overall I mean the Suns they wanted to get into this into this range of the draft that was probably one of their most important things they wanted to achieve in their Kevin Durant trade talks they were talking to Toronto at nine remember they were talking to Minnesota all the way down at number 17 this 10th pick with from that that they got back like this was originally their pick from Houston the Rockets told me that that was the Suns preferred like number one asset if you want to call that compared to Dylan Brooks compared to Jaylen Green and they wanted a big man all along they were looking at big men again all the way back down at number 29 so now that pick goes to Charlotte that’s an interesting thing at the end of the first round too being that the Hornets also had the 33rd pick and the 34th pick at the top of the second round they were already being discussed as a likely trade scenario with 33 to 34 now they have three picks in a five pick range they were already you know projected to trade one so I I wonder and I’m I’m definitely keeping an eye out for the Hornets being another trade candidate down at the bottom of the first at the top of the second love it okay thank you Jake Fischer for the updates uh car we call that in the business the brotherhood two for one you get Kaman Malawatch Duke center you get Mark Williams Duke center in a 10second span i know John Shy is smiling right now yeah but also in the back of my head as that move was made and as they selected man I honestly thought to myself I don’t want him to become Mark Williams so hopefully he doesn’t pick up some of Mark Williams habits because I think on paper Mark Williams should be this defensive live threat but he’s maybe a little bit underwhelming at times but I do think that front court death is something you want to have and in a span of a minute kind of before our eyes i think the Suns get their starting center and they also have a backup center now that 2029 first from Phoenix that could be worth something based on how the Suns are blowing things up right now uh I I don’t know instant reaction i think Charlotte got a nice return for unloading Mark Williams wait can you say that Charlotte did what something good they got They got something good wow i think they got something good i’ll be curious to see what they do at 29

Charlotte Hornets reportedly trade center Mark Williams to the Phoenix Suns for the No. 29 pick and a 2029 first round pick.

  1. Dude is not worth 2 first round picks. Not even worth 1. He can rebound but he doesnt have high decensive IQ. Good luck PHX with him and Nick Richards. They were horrendous in Charlotte

  2. The Hornets are still operating like a mom-and-pop organization. They have a weird buddy-buddy system with other organizations and trades.
