back here on CBS Sports HQ on the clock presented by Jeep there’s only one 28th overall selection the Boston Celtics selecting Hugo Gonzalez 66 200 lb out of Spain boston going international here at the end of the first round back here in studio Adam Finkelstein and Gary Parish adam Hugo Gonzalez uh not a name that everybody knows what should we know about him what’s the grade here for the C’s it’s a B minus he had a uh big early reputation in fact he’s been in the Real Madrid system since 2019 and big wing physical good athlete high motor lot of defensive upside i think that’s really the intrigue here is someone who can come in and be a factor on the defensive end of the floor his best offense right now is in transition and I’m going to say it again here the shooting is the swing skill just 29% last year GP and that number has got to improve especially in Boston where they fire those threes right they’re going to shoot as many as anybody and if you’re on the court for them you’re going to be expected to to take open shots and and be able to make them to this point in his career he hasn’t been able to do that reliably but he’s also only 19 years old beyond that it’s the defensive stuff that makes him a first round prospect um he’s got the proper size proper strength um he projects as a versatile defender who’s going to be able to switch things but if you can’t make a shot on the other end you’re gonna have a hard time getting on the court and on that note let it be known with Real Madrid he had a hard time getting on the court do you have a follow-up no no okay well then I’m going to follow up with uh Avery Johnson here avery uh what do you think of the selection here hugo Gonzalez 28th to the Boston Celtics yeah and Gary his last point he had a hard time getting on the floor what did he average 11 minutes a game i think this is a situation where it’s GLeague written all over it keep your eyes on uh JD Davidson who actually was the guy that I was his first power five offer when I was coaching at Alabama discovered him at a small AAOU uh tournament so look for JD who’s been laboring in their GLeague especially with Drew Holiday uh being traded you know he’s gotten some experience uh but I think with this pick with Ho uh Hugo Gonzalez I could see him spending next year uh basically in the uh Boston Celtics uh GLeague team good pick and roll passer but again as Fink talked about he’s got to develop a much better outside shot to play in this Boston Celtics uh three-point shooting system
