Sacramento Kings Draft Pick Nique Clifford: Media Availability
if you for everyone who’s here at the facility if you have headphones I would suggest to use those just so audio isn’t out loud so thank you guys hey you guys uh what’s up guys good to see you guys all right I think I think we’re in a good spot we can go ahead and uh get started cool thanks Nick yep hey what’s up Nick congratulations man i’m Michael i’m with the PR team here we’re just gonna uh get you with our local media here um for a little bit congratulations again excited to have you so we’ll get started with Sean Cunningham and guys please introduce your name and your affiliation so he knows where you guys are coming from please hey what’s up Nick uh I’m Sean Cunningham with KC3 just um did this night kind of go maybe the way you expected is it totally out of the question out of the realm of possibility that this ended up happening to you yeah I didn’t expect to be in Sack Town at all like that was probably one of the least expected places I thought just because they didn’t have a pick obviously in the first round so uh definitely surprised me but you know I was super excited i got to meet with them at the combine and build that relationship and you know I’m super excited to get there and get to work and be a part of that culture james go ahead hey Nate uh James Ham ESPN 1320 um one of the uh the player comps for you is uh actually the Sacramento Kings head coach Doug Christie uh what does that what what does that kind of mean for you and uh do you agree with that player comp if you’ve ever watched Doug play no I’ve I’ve heard that comp before and you know I definitely he’s a wellrespected player and I’m super excited to just be able to go there and learn from him get to pick his brain because you know he was a such a great player but I need to do more homework honestly and watch more film because I have heard that before but I I need to do my research and I’m somewhat familiar with his game but I I definitely want to watch more and start to learn from him now especially that I’m going be working with him every day jake go ahead nick what’s good my guy up there man small world hey so excited to have you here my guy we’ll see you when you get in town but my question is this we uh we’ve seen you from Colorado Springs to CU to CSU you spent a long college career in Colorado what have you learned about that path and and do you feel like your game is probably more ready to to to transfer to the NBA level right off the bat yeah definitely my experience my maturity that’s what I’m going to take going forward uh I feel like I have a great knowledge for the game and just a great understanding of how to play the right way so I’ve been a part of a lot of winning teams as well which I think is going to translate like I’m a winner from you know high school on to college i’ve been on really great teams so all of those experiences and some of the adversity I’ve been through throughout my college career I’m going to be able to adjust and adapt to any situation I’m thrown into and I’m just super excited for that and just to continue to learn and grow as a player matt go ahead hey Nick matt George ABC10 welcome to Sacramento my guy first and foremost uh can you I mean I know you talked about being surprised by the Kings taking you but to have them trade up to go and get you I mean what is that that feeling like knowing that they were willing to spend some future assets to make sure you were a king no it’s so much love man it’s so much love and I got the ultimate respect and appreciation for them to even consider doing that because that just shows the belief they have in me and it just makes me want to give everything I got to the organization um you know I’m gonna spend so much time in that gym and just trying to perfect my craft and put on the best performance every night being a consistent dude for for the team like that’s ultimately what I want to do and just help win and build build that culture in the program michelle go ahead hi Michelle Dapper from KC in Sacramento welcome to Sack Town uh tell us about the jacket i heard uh earlier is is it a Kobe Bryant thing or is it just kind of like as you said God’s plan and being sown with that Kings Purple yeah no I did it’s it’s all God like I don’t know how I ended up being the 24th pick Kobe my favorite player of all time and then you know choosing to wear purple my mom and grandma’s favorite color and ended up in a purple hat it just worked out too perfect so I can’t be more thankful tony go ahead nate Tony Harvey NBC News Sports Radio uh congratulations man i know this is a big dream that’s coming true for you uh while we on the uh subject of your uh purple white gradient jacket was there a issue with a big Clifford jewelry that was supposed to come in for you that didn’t make it what’s the story behind that did your homework okay uh yes i uh yeah I was supposed to get a pendant that was going to hang from it uh it was going to be Clifford the Big Red Dog represent my last name be a little different unique and I thought it would been cool but yeah it didn’t end up coming in on time so it’s all good just had to rock the rock the Cuban so you will wear it to Sacramento when you get a hold of it right yeah I might have to wear it to the uh to the press conference if I get it i might have to vicious all right Jeremiah go ahead congratulations uh Jeremiah Solomon of Sports Service Service um I’m just curious uh obviously Sacramento surprised you but um what do you know about the team the city um just the organization uh what do you know about the Kings going into going into this no and especially from even what I’ve heard just now but just a great culture to be a part of i’ve heard the fan base is crazy like it’s one of the only sports teams they got out there so they’re going to give everything they got to the the organization so I’m super excited to be a part of that and then the team obviously has a lot of talent a lot of great veteran players D rosen Lavine Sabonis so a lot of guys I can learn from and just pick their brains so I’m going to have great vests around me and you know I just want to be a part of that that winning culture i want to I want to light that beam a lot of times Sean go ahead Nick i was just curious you know you talk about players who were comped to you i’m just curious there’s not many guys have come out of Colorado State i know you weren’t there for a long time i think there’s only four in the first round but just what does it mean to kind of come from your journey the journey that you’ve had in Colorado to the NBA yeah it’s a I say it’s a true underdog story like I’ve started I went K through 12 to a a 3A charter school that everybody told me to leave and go to a bigger school i stuck it out i went I never played on AA circuit um we always just played in the regular tournaments and then you know I did my time at Colorado which was a big school but uh ultimately ended up at a mid major what they call it and so I think it’s just a true testament to you know my willingness to just get better every day and believe in my dreams and vision that I have for myself and just trust in God’s plan that it’s going it’s going to happen um but you know I wouldn’t trade my journey for the world i’ve been through a lot and it’s helped me get to this po point and grow but I definitely keep that chip on my shoulder always from coming from somewhere where a lot of people don’t make it out of Colorado Springs and a school like Colorado State where not too many people have made it either all right Matt go ahead you just shared what you’ve heard about the Kings fan base but what should they know about you the type of player they are what are they going to get or what are they going to see when they watch you uh suit up for the Kings in the Golden One Center tonight uh like I said they’re going to get a winner they’re going to get somebody that’s going to compete and give everything he’s got to the organization and just work his tail off every single day to get better um just continue to learn and grow and somebody that’s going to be interactive with the the fans and community like I’m feel like I’m a cool person easy to talk to so I definitely will be interactive and always a good person to the fans and then just somebody that’s a true competitor and um my versatility I feel like is my biggest asset when it comes to just basketball in general being able to make an impact in many different ways on the court kevin hey what’s up Nick kevin John ABC10 Sports doing all right um just piggybacking off of what Matt said um there’s a lot that’s out there about you we we we’ve read your accolades we’ve read what you’ve accomplished but about you personally uh as the Kings fan base learns to embrace you and get to know everything that you bring on and off the court what is something unique distinguished or different about you that you would like the fan base to know about you or just the Sacramento media Sacramento media to know about you um what’s a good one i definitely feel like I’m good I’m pretty good at at multiple sports uh specifically pingpong i feel like I’m pretty good at that um another one I I like to make music a little bit here and there as a hobby uh rap a little bit do some hip-hop stuff just for fun i ain’t put nothing out but just a little hobby that I do especially with my my homeboy sometimes um but other than that I’m pretty chill i play video games i go to different food places um I like to people watch so I’m a pretty chill dude i’ll be in the gym a lot watch film watch YouTube all right Tony we’ll wrap up last one to you thanks Mike nick what was um what was your reaction did uh Scott Perry you know pick up the phone and call you and tell you that you were going to be a Sacramento Kings and what was your reaction after receiving that call uh I’m not a super emot like I don’t like to usually show my emotions all the time i don’t cry a lot but I got I got a little emotional i got choked up um it was hard for me to talk to him on the phone cuz it didn’t even feel real but uh yeah I definitely shed a couple tears and then just being able to embrace that moment with my family and all the people that came here to support me uh was a super special moment but it honestly just didn’t feel real in the moment hearing hearing their voices on the phone talking to them and knowing I was about to be playing for the for the organization in Sacramento thanks all right Nick appreciate you man uh look forwarding to having you out in sack um and enjoy the rest of your night guys just for the rest of you at the PF uh Scott will be speaking in the next 5 to 10 minutes so uh head over to the press conference and uh thanks for everything all right Nick have a good one man peace y’all as well look forward to it catch you soon my guy

Love him here in Sac. Now it's time to move off of Lavine and Derozon and get a point guard and some more length
