NBA Draft Reactions – Pick No. 17, The Minnesota Timberwolves Select Joan Beringer!

pick number 17 we have the Minnesota Timberwolves dare I say taking a Rudy Gobear successor with Yoan Being i’ll get ahead of this i’m a Yoan Bearing guy i watched him play for uh I can’t even say the name of his team listen some something Olympias in the ABA big ABA basketball guy now I think Baron Jay has the goods i think Baron Jay’s going to be going to be a player you You’re watching What league was that it’s the Adriatic League you know the league that gave us Nicola Joic that gave us Avika Zub Zubats both them played in the same league they played in the I don’t know if they were there at the same time but they both played in the ABA before coming to the NBA all right well I mean I guess so like here’s my thing he didn’t play on a national team that team wasn’t like they were really good but there there are some dude like Gerson Ubiscelli’s playing over here court okay i I don’t really have a rebuttal for that he’s young i think he’s like 18 yeah no yeah high upside high upside high upside like every international guy i just think so okay this kid he’s he’ll be 19 come November um this time last year he was only 17 when it was Olympics time so I don’t don’t hold it against him that he didn’t make the France national team to me that’s like the defensive upside is so tantalizing i think he’s actually a good defender who’s mobile and every time I watch Gobear I feel like he just gets in the way like he’s just so his comparison to Rudy I no I think I mean it would be unfair to put like defensive player of the year expectations on him well Rudy’s defensive player of the year’s flugazi as I like to call him I I don’t agree with them you still got to acknowledge that they exist every time I watch Rudy in the Every time I watch Rudy in the playoffs you know you see him get played off the floor you see him disappear you see it just has always felt like to me all this dude is is just tall like what people applied to Zack Edy when he was at Purdue I think is actually true of Go Bear in the NBA i’m not saying Baron Jay is going to become a defensive player of the year i mean he just went pick number 17 this was not a surefire top five top 10 guy i just think the the the tools are very intriguing he’s very fleet of foot super agile can guard in space covers ground exceptionally quickly and then he has the long wingspan to to cover up like let’s say he could switch onto a guard if a guard gets him on his hip he’s got that wingspan to to finish the job even if he’s beat he can still smack the shot into the bleachers like that that and when you watch him in transition supreme athlete as well and like this team he played for Cervitas Olympias excuse me Cedvitas Olympias they allowed him to to make some decisions on the perimeter a little bit they would play him out of dribble handoffs from time to time i don’t think he’s just like going to be a career all you’re there to do is catch lobs and dunky dunk like he might have a little bit more to his game that’s still expanding i love your breakdown of him i I don’t have a ton to add i’m just going to be honest like I don’t know much about his game i went through and ranked every single prospect i did strengths and weaknesses for every single prospect i did not think he was getting picked uh in general let alone at what are we at 17 16 mhm 17 17 yeah definitely didn’t have him there going to be completely honest so like you know that’s hand up accountability guys we own up to stuff but I do love Riley’s breakdown i I’ll say this if the comparison’s Rudy I love that actually if you’re mobile Rudy like I think that’s the issue is Rudy’s not mobile he can’t switch he He provides nothing on offense so he’s just standing under the basket affecting shots but at what point are players too athletic for you to genuinely affect their shots and I think Rudy’s kind of hit that point in his career where it’s like Rudy’s down there we see food if we get a switch we definitely see food and I I think what Rudy does takes away a lot of what you’re able to do team defense-wise so if they’re able because I mean he’s going to Minnesota so that’s an obviously an interesting comparison in its own right because when you look at this roster you have Nas Reed expiring Julius Randle just opted into a player option you have Nikquil Alexander Walker expiring obviously Dillian and Terrence and Jr waiting in the wings the big one of the biggest contract in sports and Anthony Edwards decisions have to be made if he can quickly become a resemblance of Rudy Gobear I think it allows them to keep uh Nikquila Alexander Walker it allows them to keep Julius Rand allows them to keep Nas Reed which they won’t keep all three i know I’m rambling now i apologize but it allows you to keep certain guys because you don’t have to pay Rudy anymore and you can put that money elsewhere so I love your breakdown if he’s able to do a resemblance of what you’re saying like I I think it’s a great pick mhm and the one more note I’ll add he’s only been playing basketball for three years i think that’s super impressive that he’s playing legit minutes in the ABA a very good league like playing starter minutes for a team that I think was halfway decent uh and showing these defensive flashes i mean he he measured seven seven feet tall in shoes not without shoes but in shoes 75 wingspan like when you factor that in with the mobility and even just how angry some of his blocks are i I’m just going to be a huge fan of this kid and I’m going to he to me he feels like the type of player who seven years from now I’m still getting on calls with you and Carter and saying yo yo my guy Yoan just needs a chance yoan just needs one more shot at it let him figure it out so you know what he is right what is he he’s three years away from being three years away was one of my all-time favorite quotes when Bruno Kaboko was cracking that was a great quote like like what are we talking about can we at least say he’s a year away from being a year away three years away from being three years away is harsh i actually I I have no notes on how far away he is from being away i just know he’s away like I I know he’s not here yet i’m a fan of the pick uh I I love the way that Memphis has leaned into their defensive identity and how they’ve developed players in that sense recently i think it’s a it’s a good situation you know he’s not going to be expected to do too much right away he can learn he can develop and get his feet wet i do think eventually he’s going to be a factor so uh I’m a fan of the pick so we’ll see what happens with my guy Yoan down the

  1. Terrible pick. Such a limited player. The illinois PG, Clayton, clifford or kalkbrenner would have been better options
