cooper flag number one after months of anticipation number one overall pick what is hitting you the hardest in this moment i think it’s just the emotion uh this night you know there’s so much anticipation so much buildup and i think just being in this moment you know seeing my mom cry um hugging my family talking to my brother like it’s just a surreal moment that you see so many people go through it each year and it’s just it’s crazy as you watch the emotions on your mom’s face what emotions did it bring out of you it brought a lot of emotions out um it made me want to cry but you know i moved on quick got some my other brothers you know dabbed them up so i came back to reality and i didn’t cry but i mean my mom means everything to me she’s my biggest supporter my biggest fan and my biggest helper so she just does a lot for me that’s beautiful and you are going to such a great situation in dallas you’re not even being asked to carry a rebuilding team you’re going to a team with real finals experience a lot of talent what do you think about the situation you’re stepping into i mean i think it’s incredible uh i feel really blessed for for the opportunity i mean like you said it’s not normal to be in this situation and be able to go to somewhere like this so i feel really blessed for that and i’m just really excited to be a sponge you know i’m going to try and learn as much as i can be surrounded by a ton of you know vets great players legends so you know i’m really excited to just get down there and start learning and what a defensive duo you and ad how will you compliment him on that end of the floor i’m gonna do whatever i can you know whatever coach needs me to do um you know ad is amazing he’s a great player he does so much to impact winning so i’m just going to go in and try and complement him as best i can you know when the lottery happened and mavs got the number one pick i said “this this kind of feels like destiny.” what ran through your head when you saw that a lot a lot went through [Applause] [Music] oh my god i’m sorry i’m sorry i love that live reaction how you feeling watching your teammate get drafted insane i mean it’s surreal you know khan that was my roommate last year so just to see him have that moment with his family it’s just insane that really just gave me chills that was crazy all right last one for you i know what larry bird has meant to your basketball career you haven’t met him yet how are we going to make that happen listen i would love to meet him you know like you said he’s an idol for me so i’m just really looking forward to you know any opportunity i could get um if i see him i’ll probably still be a little shell shocked um but that would be amazing congratulations on this moment i am looking forward to watching you in dallas and have an illustrious nba career thank you very much
