Miami Heat Take Kasparas Jakučionis w/ 20th Pick | Lauded For Getting Steal Of The Draft
welcome in guys tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel hope you’re doing well out there in the wee hours of this uh what is this Thursday I can’t even keep track it is the morning after the draft it’s about 1:00 a.m just got back boots on the ground from being at the Miami Heats arena as we did a live draft broadcast today casperis Yakonis that is your new Miami Heat guard as he is drafted out of Illinois from Lithuania and a bit of a surprise I got to be honest with you uh did draft homework for this whole draft broadcast and like I was doing this like all the way up until you know did this through the weekend i’m like I’m looking at all the people who are like 15 and below did not see a lot of Yuckonus uh in the Miami Heat scope saw a lot of him top 10 maybe just outside the top 10 uh some websites had him as high as like the seventh ranked prospect in the draft so yeah it was a little surprising to uh to see Miami have another talent fall right into their lap and this to be honest is not something that has been uncommon in heat past where they have had guys who people have thought a lot about and um have kind of fallen into their laps uh this one went a little bit deeper and it was just a fascinating draft to watch just because there was so many trades there was so much movement and so when you finally got to the Heat’s pick all of the buzz today and over the last couple of days had been surrounding Walter Clayton Jr so much so he’s getting asked about Miami today on on the draft show um there’s people zooming in in his draft room is if he has a heat hat there he ends up going to Utah after getting drafted by Washington gets sent to the Utah Jazz which he did not look pleased about um but it was it was a strange mix here in the middle of the draft because there was just a huge run on centers and we were talking about this in the leadup to the draft where it was like look I don’t know where the heat are going to go it kind of feels like they could go in a lot of directions and and guys I am not a college basketball you know expert afficionado dove into this draft and kind of felt like the Heat were going to be all over the board but it felt like they were going to go either guard or they were going to go three and dish type of guy that’s the talent that was going to be there didn’t really feel like there was going to be a a a center that was going to tickle their fancy and it really felt like a lot of that run on size some of it surprising like Yang Hassan who uh ends up getting in the traded to Portland was uh was a little bit you’re like whoa okay but we get to the Heats pick and the fir and the two picks before we get to to Yakonis getting picked was Walter Clayton Jr and then Nolan Trayori from France he ends up going to the Brooklyn Nets and I would say like those are probably the two most prominent names that you heard going to the Miami Heat but in the whole realm of it it’s like all right so who are who is Miami gonna go with Because you have Casper sitting here at this position where it’s like hey this guy was thought of as being a top 10 talent miami don’t even know if at the time we’re like don’t has Miami even worked him out Turns out they didn’t um and and Adam Simon would say later to the media which I did not stick around for by the way very late night but he uh would tell the media that was there after we were doing our our our radio show that yeah they didn’t have a workout with him they didn’t think that he was going to be there and I mean the the the prominent feeling it feels like to me in and I’m not doing this Heat homer style i’ve literally seen like one negative on the Miami Heat taking this pick which it it doesn’t even like really register but I’m I’m saying like there’s a there’s there’s stuff from ESPN that’s saying it’s it’s arguably a travesty that he fell this far there is from CBS’s expert saying that I can’t believe that Miami not only gets Yakonis but gets him with a chip on his shoulder in an environment like Miami they did the exact same thing with Kell Wear last year and made him one of the best players in the draft that was from Adam Ficklestein of uh of CBS Sports and he goes “If you’re a Heat fan you should be ecstatic right now you got the Alliani out there tweeting out like he’s an absolute wizard with the basketball.” And just continue to say this and made this point like “Look I know there’s a lot of Heat fans who are frustrated i have vented my own frustrations which by the way it was funny being in the arena tonight because a lot of the people who I love around that team they’re like “You calm down?” And I’m like “I have calmed down i have gone down so everybody took it in stride i was Was I referred to as the ranter by Iraman tonight Yes I was but all in good fun everybody the uh but the idea that the Miami Heat end up with uh with Yakonis at at this pick I don’t really understand what there is to complain about there was uh and so to break down for those who don’t know um six 65 66 guard just turned 19 years old born in Lithuania played a little bit of ball in Spain fluent in Spanish and then ends up uh coming over here playing college ball with the Ali who ended up having back-to-back picks his other teammate Will Riley who was the sixman of the year for the Ali six Big 10 six man of the here he ends up going the next pick little bit of thought hey could the Heat end up with uh Pat Riley driving Riley anything like that um and then like looking at the other guys that were around Miami’s area didn’t go too far out of that realm like there was some Ace Newell talk about the you know the bruising defensive inside presence forward from the University of Georgia he ends up going to the Hawks uh Nick Clifford there was some some stuff on him kind of can do a little bit of everything was teammates with Isaiah Stevens he goes 24 jace Richardson’s who I know a lot of Heat fans were into and maybe you feel like is going to be a little bit more dynamic of a player than uh than than Yakonis is uh he ends up going to the Orlando Magic at 25 um those are probably the the the most prominent names lee McNeely was was um mocked to the Miami Heat and he ends up going to Charlotte at 29 and at the at the Suns plays every one of these picks was traded it’s It’s so crazy it’s like picks all over the place um and and like look there’s nothing against those guys whatsoever we could be sitting here in a year’s time and Casper could be sitting his ass on the bench spo Richardson could turn into the next coming of of of Tyrese Maxi and we look a fool we got a pressure to chew situation all over again um but I mean you have a lot of people i mean like they were talking about this on the broadcast i think uh Jonathan Gavon was saying on ESPN “This guy was my 11th best prospect.” So it’s not like the Miami Heat reached here it’s not like they had something fall into their lap allah Karan Butler Allah Justice Winslow this has been a position the Miami Heat have have have found themselves before and then you talk about what his everybody talks about his top skill sets you talk about his ability to finish around the rim you talk about playmaking you know being able to set up his teammates um facilitator the way that he can come up with some some some just tremendous passes you talk about I mean not surprising born in Europe comes up in that in that mold of being able to you know get his teammates involved and dude it is something the Miami Heat were lacking you know like look Tyler Herro is is growing in a lot of ways as a decision maker and as a facilitator but that man is a shooter and scorer first and that is you know what he comes into this thing is and you do need to take a little relief off his hands and you really need to figure out like hey well who else can set up from the back court for these guys Davon Mitchell you know not necessarily known as like a a shot creator for everybody else bulldog mentality gets in there will get guys in the right position uh can be fearless driving to the basket but I wouldn’t say I would not say he throws the prettiest lobs on the team um probably the opposite of that and there’s a lot to love about DaVon Mitchell and there’s nothing wrong with that not everybody’s gonna be a perfect player but uh Yakonis getting picked by Miami it feels like all right now we have this point guard prospect that has good size to him has maybe a little little corn dragon a little little dragon in him possibly uh of being able get to to get to the bucket and then also being able to set up his uh his teammates and you know people will say well he doesn’t have blowby speed he doesn’t have this i mean Goron did not either i mean Goron was a guy who could use his physicality but would use his shiftiness his craftiness um and still was just so effective at finding his way um and then the other thing you just think about is like all right people will look at his and and yeah of course I’m going to you know cope on it because it’s like it’s the Heat’s pick so I’m going to look at the sunny side of a lot of this stuff i thought one of the things that was crazy the only negative I saw was I think Kevin Oconor of the ringer called it he graded it a D+ which was I think literally his worst grade of the draft and I think I just he must just really not like the player which is a fine opinion to have it’s okay you don’t have to like every player it seemed like his biggest gripe was the turnovers um okay but you know shooting turnovers okay from my standpoint he just turned 19 last month so you’re basically going to have a a pure 19year-old this entire season it’s one thing to be 22 and have some of these concerns of shooting and turnovers um I don’t know you know and and but but to be that age I I think you’re I think you’re you’re getting a little bit uh crazy with with saying “Oh he’s too crazy with the B.” Like that can improve with his age getting up like he played a year so he he played a year of college and and uh leaving his country to come here and Okay he he almost you know he he was a little willy-nilly with the basketball i don’t know i was just like when I saw it it’s not that it’s not a legitimate concern it’s just to me it’s not a concern where I’m like “Oh well I’m lost on that never mind.” You know you you lost me there just because oh yeah I get it turn the ball over four times a game um not great but also you know this is a very young player the shooting was uh not super impressive with uh from downtown but uh Adam Simon raving about his ability to finish at the rim did get to the free throw line a good amount uh with his one with with his one year at Illinois and uh yeah just just to me seems like a pretty stout prospect that the Miami Heat found their way into and I think a lot of people are referring to this as the steel of the draft for Miami and I think that that is uh that is you know right par for the course for Adam Simon the crew the war room looked like they were happy pat Riley was cheesing mickey Harrison Nick Harrison everybody was in a good mood probably looking at Spo [Music] but it you know it it ultimately uh for Miami getting this pick done um I’m excited to see summer league like right away cuz it sounds like Kell will get a couple of games in summer league kell was there tonight he was there i got some stuff from Alonzo morning today alonzo stopped by did the show with Salana and Tommy Tig and Zo was giving us some goods on KL Wear he was giving some goods on Callware that um if you guys didn’t see it I’ll put some of that stuff uh out for you guys to check it out if you happen to miss it but Zo is like he I was like “Oh that sounds uh pretty exciting exciting.” But the man they call Casper Yakonis Ghost he’s now haunting your lives dude he is here in the Heats house ready to get his Heat career underway

stoked with this pick! a glimmer of hope. wish the heat would trade for danny wolf as well. would be an awesome backup 4/5.
Turnover machine no…
A young pg at 6”5. And Euro. So he like to dish. I love it. Nice post Tobs.
spo wanted a 35 year old rookie
Miami needs to trade Bam, ASAP!
WELCOME BABY DRAGON 🐉
let him play in gleauge to prove hes top 10
Kasparas selection makes Heat unanimous favorites to win the Summer League championship again.😂
Something to keep in mind: before his arm injury he was shooting 42% from 3. The shooting talent is absolutely there.
I still wish we took clayton
Last pick that fell like this was Justise Winslow
The cliche “steal of the draft” died for me after seeing Justise Winslow’s career play itself out. I’ll never listen to that crap again. Tip the ball up & prove it
Should’ve picked Nique Clifford
His turnovers and lower shooting only really started after he got hurt. He shot 92% from the FT line and was shooting around 40% from 3 before his injury. Also Illinois later in the year basically forced him to play hero ball and pray he can make something out of nothing. Very good prospect those turnovers and low shooting numbers should not worry anyone.
I cant believe a top 10 prospect lands in 20!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Another unathletic guard that cant defend, let alone shoot. Miami should have traded up and got something better.
By the way this kid had the 5th MOST TURNOVERS of any guard in Division 1 lol! Great Pick Pat you did it again.
Total Turnovers: He had 123 turnovers in his last season, which was the fifth most in Division 1.
Turnovers Per Game: He averaged 3.7 turnovers per game, leading the Big Ten conference.
Turnover Rate: His turnover rate was exceptionally high at 25.4%.
I love the pick. It's rare that you get a pick that is both position of need and best talent available. Looks like the team is kind of picking a younger direction. It's not the rebuild some of us want, but at least they are trending younger.
Kevin O'conner only gave it a D because he is a Celtics fan. He had Jakučionis going at 16 to the Grizzlies in his mock draft. He was much more positive about him until Miami picked him. The guy is an idiot.
It's perfect because Goran is probably going to be working with him
Miami finally got a true guard and he’s 6’5 🙏🏽
"Ghost" I like it👻
There is a reason he dropped to 20. He is not a top 10 talent.
He’s a turnover machine, but we’ll see.
I just seen his highlights I’m shocked that they let this guy go all the way to the 20th pick he balling Luka style 🎉
Im a Suns fan but hope that this pick turns out great for the Heat!
So glad he fell to us feel like this might be a home run I wanted him when I thought we were going to miss the playoffs but I’ll take it
Man I seen ppl complaining about missing out on Walter im like yall crazy this a steal way better pick
Might not get a big star but heat always win the draft❤❤❤ Miami princess
Fantastic pick by Miami!!! This guy can play and has incredible ball handling skills. Definitely going to end up being the steal of the draft for the Heat. I’m very surprised he fell to #20. He’s a top ten pick easily. So fantastic draft selection by Miami!!! Beautiful pick!!!
Definitely the true point guard Miami desperately needed for sure!!!!! Solid pick
Heat fans are delusional as fuck 😂😂😂
Dude I heard you guys on 560 …. You guys didn’t even know who he was and never spoke about drafting him at all…. Save your bs… talking about a steal… same shit about Winslow he slid and he was trash… the heat are doomed …. And you suck … you lost your mojo
Everybody wants a joker
When is anyone gonna talk about the elephant in the room: how many white guys can you roster and still win championships? Why are the Heat obsessed with drafting so many of them, and when is the last team to win a title with 7-8 white guys on their roster. Is it even practical or possible in 2025? I’m white btw
Just like d wade fell into old man lap.
A line up of him at pg. Tyler hero at sg. Jovic or Jaime at sf (if not Andrew wiggins) and bam And ware isn't a bad lineup. Need to trade Wiggins and cozier and Roberson tho in my opinion
He is profect. No complaints tocme. As a heat team. We should always draft for defense or playmaking (passing) thats winning basketball
