Knicks Want To TRADE UP In NBA Draft! Targeting DYNAMIC GUARD Jamir Watkins | Knicks News
the Knicks are looking to trade up in the second round of this year’s draft and they’re targeting a defensive guard to add to this roster to have an immediate impact we’re going to break down all of these latest reports today if you’re enjoying the content please go ahead and hit that subscribe button and make sure you have notifications on as well too if you want to support the channel the easiest way to do that is to hit that subscribe button and now let’s get started the Knicks want to trade up in this year’s draft the Knicks currently hold the 50th overall pick in this year’s NBA draft but reports indicate that the Knicks are looking to trade that pick but as we covered yesterday many insiders believe that the Knicks will either trade back or trade out of this draft entirely however new reports indicate that that’s not what the Knicks are looking to do at all instead New York does want to trade that pick but they’re not looking to trade back they want to trade up and they’re trading up because they’re targeting an athletic defensive guard somebody they can add to this team right now to have an immediate impact let’s break down exactly who the Knicks are looking to trade up for shout out to Clutch Points Chris Persiani for giving us this following information here according to him the New York Knicks only have one pick in the 2025 NBA draft at number 50 overall reports are indicating that the Knicks will look to trade up in the second round and who are they targeting according to NBA insiders Ian Begley and Chris Persiani the Knicks are interested in Florida State’s Jir Watkins this is the player the defensive guard that New York wants to move up for in tonight’s second round of the draft and according to Ian Begley Jir Watkins definitely has some fans within the Knicks organization but Begley questions if he’ll even be there at pick number 50 so we know the Knicks are looking to move up in this year’s draft we know why now they’re looking to target Florida State’s Demir Watkins but is that the only player they’re looking at are they looking at other players other potential prospects that could be available at number 50 or maybe if they trade up could be available a little bit earlier well shout out to Clutch Points Chris Persiani for breaking down this following information for us because according to him New York does have interest in at least two forwards with several years of NCAA experience this is nothing new for Leon Rose and Walt Perin and the team’s front office the team reportedly has its eyes set on Arkansas’s Aduyu Dioro and Belmont’s Jonathan Pierre as second round prospects and shout out to Ian Begley of SNY for giving us this following information according to him New York hosted former Alabama and Ruter’s big man Clifford Omarui as part of a group workout this week in talking to opposing teams though the name that kept coming up was Florida State’s Jamir Watkins watkins has several fans in the Knicks organization several opposing teams don’t think that the Knicks would let Watkins slip past the number 50th pick will Watkins be there at pick number 50 according to ESPN’s most recent mock draft they have Watkins going at number 38 so that means if the Knicks want him they’re going to have to trade up for him and that’s where all these reports are coming out from a lot of people in the Knicks organization are fans of Jir Watkins they love his defense they love his defensive tenacity and they love the fact he can score the ball well as well too these are some of the reasons New York is targeting him so it’s perfectly clear for me it’s abundantly clear the Knicks right now are looking at guards with size clearly that’s why they’re looking at Jir Watkins he’s 6’7 and he’s a guard exactly what you need a guard with size but if you’re not looking at guards then you’re looking at either big men or wings with size and that’s also some prospects that the Knicks are looking at right now because they understand in this year’s draft they need to get more players that will help them immediately and in the future you get a big man or a wing with size and you develop them the right way under a new head coach that player could have a significant impact right away because these are players that the Knicks need anyways and for anybody not understanding why the Knicks are targeting Jir Watkins why they want to move up for him I said it earlier but let me say it again defense size and scoring ability when you give a player a guard who’s 6’6 6’7 those type of abilities of course people are going to be interested in him of course teams are going to want to draft him and if they realize that he could potentially not be there and you know he can make a difference if you add him to the team that’s why New York is looking to move up for him they don’t want any other team to get him and if they can steal him away in the second round they are going to do that let’s break down a little bit more information on exactly who Jamir Watkins is shout out to Ian Begley for giving us this following information here according to him Watkins a 6’6 guard i want to mention in some drafts he’s listed at 6’7 just wanted to put that out there either way a 6’6 6’7 guard averaging 18.4 points 5.7 rebounds as a guard 5.7 rebounds as a guard that’s due to his size 2.4 assists and 1.2 two steals per game as a senior he can defend multiple positions and is seen as a solid on ball defender the Trenton Catholic product averaged 1.9 steals as a junior at Florida State clearly he is active defensively clearly he can rebound clearly he can have an impact on the game but even more than that 18.4 4 points a game he can score he can score with the best of them now I do want to mention he’s not the greatest three-point shooter i believe he’s around 34% so respectable but not great could he get better of course he can but in this league you do need a three-point shot especially if you’re a guard he has one it’s not great but it can be made to look better with the right development and if he practices and we know he’s going to go through those channels anyways so I expect his shooting to get a lot better but right now he’s not the greatest shooter but he is a very good defender and when you look at the team overall do we need more shooters or do we need more defenders that’s actually a trick question we need a player that can do both come off the bench and score and defend and even though Watkins can’t really shoot the three ball extremely well he can still score he can still rebound and his on ball defense is very good for a rookie and it’s only going to get better under a new head coach under development and with this Knicks team i have no problem if the Knicks want to trade up for a guard like this at 6 foot7 I have no issues with that the only issue the smallest issue I have is just the shooting and I made a video a couple of days ago about the Knicks potentially going after Kobe Brea and if the Knicks went after him they would get shooting instantly he’s probably one of the best catch and shoot shooters in the draft today he shot 43% last season with Kentucky that tells you something but there’s a reason he’s sliding all the way into the second round it’s because of his defense or a lack thereof he does not have great defense he moves well without the ball but he can’t create for himself he’s a decent passer but not great a lot of the things he needs help with are why he’s going to slide to the second round because he’s a great shooter but everything else is a mixed bag but knowing Leon Rose and this Knicks front office I will never put any move past them if they want a certain player if they want to draft a certain kid any prospect they will find a way to move up and draft that player and all signs are indicating right now that the Knicks are looking to move up and draft Jamir Watkins or one of these other athletic forwards that they can add to this team because the Knicks know this year probably better than any other year what players they need on this team and they need players with size either guards wings centers it doesn’t matter as long as that player can help immediately when they’re added to this team that is the major selling point for why the Knicks want to move up in this year’s draft and I think Jamir Watkins if New York is able to get him right now he will be a contributor off the bench very early on in his career especially under a new head coach we need more defensive guards guards with size better on ball defenders and Jamir Watkins checks all of the boxes for New York the only thing remaining is the Knicks actually drafting him and if they have to move up to do that in the process they’re going to do it but what about you guys what do you think about the Knicks potentially moving up for Florida State’s Jir Watkins let me know how you feel about that in the comments section below guys because honestly I would love to hear from you but that’s going to do it for this episode i hope you enjoyed it and if you did go ahead and smash that like button leave a comment below and of course guys please subscribe to the channel until next time Nick fans take care of yourself your families and each other peace and
The Knicks could be looking to trade up in this year’s draft to acquire a talent READY TO CONTRIBUTE to winning right now. NY is targeting players with size however, recent reports indicate the Knicks love the defense of a dynamic guard from Florida State. NY are BIG fans and could shake up the 2nd round of draft night with a move up to get their guy… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

Move up to sign Rasheer Flemings NOW!! He’s a monster and the Knicks need a player like him!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I would be trying to find a two way player
why? I thought we wanted wings? I think we had many defensive guards
Anybody remember the day when 34% from three was the bench mark??? Wow how steph raised the bar. It's ridiculous how you are not a good shooter with a 34% three ball. Ridiculous
We get a young og to replace og. That's why we are looking for guards. Watkins allows us to trade of og bridges
There are plenty of good players left in this draft.. Kentucky always have good players that do well in the NBA.
I hope we get a coach who can develop young talent
The kid thst left Kentucky to play in Arkansas would be good
We have Kolek
We need size/Height someone with explosive speed, defensive. backup brunson, We need a PF with defense back up for KAT. I heard they trying to trade Robinson. If we do this we will be going out looking for another center. So its pointless.
Let’s go for it
How much will it cost to trade up for Jamie watking?
It doesn't matter who we draft we're gonna trade them any way Iman Shumpert,Obi Topin,Quentin Grimes,Kevin Knox,Rj Barrett all traded
Another guard smh
I wouldn’t mind
Ryan kalkbrenner
Kobe brea
Kobe sanders
Thank you, Troy for the update
I don't believe any of this, you don't report your strategy for a draft. This is not like trading for a player. Why bring attention to a guy just to get snagged up before your turn…I believe not 1 name mentioned gets drafted by the Knicks
ADOU is the only player we should be interested in. He’s fits the Knicks perfectly
Let's be honest. The Knicks never pick a player that we like.
R.J. LUIS PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Well we can do without duece and shamit.for starters.
Your not helping the knicks getting this guy by telling the world. just saying
Maybe this means they are looking to move Mikal
Get a muscle 💪 PF with size
There are a good amount of players coming out we can use and he’s one !! As long as he can play now..
Knicks shouldn't be trading up for anyone in the 2nd round I feel.
