Portland Trail Blazers Land Yang Hansen at No. 16: BIGEST SURPRISE in the 1st Round of the NBA Draft
in today’s show the Trailblazers make the most surprising pick of the first round of the NBA draft trading back to land Chinese big man Yang Hansen it was a move that nobody saw coming so who is Yong and why did the Blazers do this welcome to Locked on Blazers let’s get into it you are Locked on Trailblazers your daily Portland Trailblazers podcast part of the Locked On podcast network your team every day what’s up world it’s your past first point guard and trailblazers reporter Mike Richmond you’re listening to another episode of Locked on Blazers part of the Locked on Podcast Network available wherever you get podcasts and also on YouTube coming at you each and every weekday Monday through Friday so make it a part of your daily routine make it your first listen tell your friends to do the same it’s locked on Blazers your team every day in today’s show we made it through the first day of the NBA draft and the Blazers pulled off the most surprising pick of the first round they traded back to land Chinese big man Yang Hansen at 16 in a move that truly no one saw coming that most of the prognosticators had Yang somewhere between 35 and 45 on their on their big boards this was um this was an out of nowhere move and moreover and this is sort we’ll get into Young today show we’ll get into Yong a scouting report where he came from his background why the Blazers did this but moreover and this is the most overarching most important thing that I think you should take away from this this selection um so let’s just get to it in the first three minutes of the show this is a called shot when you make a draft pick this far outside of the consensus you are saying who we we do not care we know our scouting is right we are going to be right about this um this is the type of move that you either proves your scouting prowess or is the meme you they bury you with the Blazers are betting on their expertise they liked Yang so they went and got it there is something to be said for bucking consensus and and and sort of the commonly held scouting and saying “We trust our guys we trust our building we trust our eyeballs this is the guy we want we’re going to get the guy we want so be it biggest surprise of draft night as I mentioned in yesterday’s program this like a general consensus first six seven picks i think everybody kind of knew what they’d be uh maybe we didn’t know that Cooper Flag would have a goatee but we knew he was going to go number one overall dylan Harper we knew he was going to go two vj Edcom was almost everywhere at three conanipple four every a lot of folks had had that four dialed mild surprise with Ace Bailey at five trey Johnson goes six to the Wizards cuz Bailey jumped him jeremiah Fierce goes seven those seven names are pretty much everywhere that’s what everybody had the first you know that was like the general consensus the strongest um those seven names the biggest surprise comes at eight the first real surprise comes at eight jagor Dean uh jumps to eight and goes to Brooklyn so then the Blazers now they’re like “Oh they’re going to if if Deme is already off the board at eight there’s going to be some players that the Blazers like that are available at 11.” Colin Murray Boilles goes Colin Malawatch and then the Blazers are up at 11 and they trade the pick this this one um this is the first of like you think oh something’s up their sleeve what are they doing the way it was announced though on television I’m I’m watching it on the ESPN broadcast is like uh hey the Blazers are picking here but this this pick has been traded to Memphis and then isn’t hasn’t immediately reported on television i wasn’t following it at that point on on social media as well although I had to eventually switch there because I um I needed to know um the Blazers trade with Memphis they they trade uh they get they move back to 16 in exchange they get a fully unprotected uh first round pick from Orlando and a 2020 in two seconds 2027 from Atlanta and 2028 from Sacramento very quickly and we maybe will visit this down the line because that’s just not what today’s show about i I really think this is a good value trade um I like the unprotected pick in 2028 i like adding two seconds back after the Blaze were a little light on second round picks quite frankly this is that’s I think they got good value to move back five spots and they certainly got who they wanted and got paid for it i think this is good business albeit surprising we’ll get to the surprise in a moment memphis takes Cedric Coward noah S goes 12 to Chicago the Pelicans um in a really stunning move that just like isn’t going to make the show but they move up to 13 and take Derek Queen carter Bryant um goes 14 to the Spurs thomas Sorber big man from Georgetown goes 15 to OKC Blazers on the clock so like Kasparakonis is is available right you know like there’s there’s there are this is the name that’s been often mocked to them maybe it doesn’t make a ton of sense but that’s like among the players that have been in the building he’s the highest rated player who’ve been in the building who’s still on the board he seems like the pick but they could go a lot of different directions when you trade back from your original range um it you know you think like it could anything could happen and so Adam Silver gets up to the podium and he says the Memphis Grizzlies select because the NBA has a dumb order of operations so the Grizzlies are making this pick technically because the trade isn’t finalized at the time um they would need to change around when like free agency and the draft happen to make to make the the fix the like Memphis Grizzlies picking for the Blazers type of thing uh but it is weird and he Adam Silver gets up to the to the mic and says “Yang Hansen.” Wait what who and the camera pans into the crowd in fact uh I was sent a little video of this i’m going to play this for you on the YouTube on the YouTube channel the camera pans into the crowd and we see Young NBA wait that’s Young Hansen’s music the 7 foot1 19year-old as you’re listening to this he’s already turned 20 happy birthday Young Hansen turned 20 on June 26 uh the 7120-year-old with a 9-3 standing reach is deep in the Barclay center uh seats with a respplendant in a white suit with a silk shirt and no tie walks down the steps his agent Rich Paul comes up from the green room floor uh where where Young was not invited to sit but he’s he’s in attendance anyways he daps up Rich Paul he walks down the uh he walks further down the steps onto the green room floor he gets greeted by fellow clutch client Walter Clayton Jr who you could have bet a lot of money would have been drafted before his fellow clutch client Young and he daps up Walter Clayton Jr the the the guard from Florida and then he makes his way onto the stage to receive his Memphis Grizzlies hat and shake the hands of the commissioner what the heck just happened the Blazers pulled off the most surprising pick of the first round they bet on themselves young is a 20-year-old measured 71 71 without shoes a truly giant person at the NBA combine not super long arms uh 73 like 72 and 3/4 uh measurements uh but 93 standing reach he was 200 250 lb 20-year-old who has been crushing in the CBA as a teenager that’s the Chinese uh basketball association this was a pick that no one really saw coming the brief scout on Young and I’ve I have I’m recording this a little bit late because I I I really didn’t know much about him he worked out for the Blazers in late May he was he was in the practice facility on May 30th um this continues a trend if the Blazers are going to take you high up in the draft they’re going to bring you in the building one of the trends that it really does it really kills is the sort of like predictive power of es of ESPN’s mock stuff i’ll tell you what say goodbye to that ESPN mock is useful they weren’t even close on this one cuz nobody saw this coming but Yong is a skilled passer he is a got good footwork and good touch at his size he’s been a defensive monster in the the CBA although there are real questions whether that can translate to an NBA level but a truly big person with some real offensive skills and good offensive touch that’s the upside you’re selling here has been very good at lower levels uh in in in playing in international competition and the CBA um and the Blazers are making this bet a bet that probably no one else would have made uh when when asked about it uh uh Joe Cronin told reporters that they want this was who they wanted and they were comfortable trading back and again I like the tra I like the move to trade back i think they got pretty good value there but they didn’t want to trade back much further because they wanted to get their guy and they got their guy so who is Young let’s let let’s talk about him we’ll get to know him a little bit more and offer you some some other some sort of about his journey to here uh as as he makes his way to Rip City uh join me in that second segment won’t you first though let’s talk Wayfair look if you’ve got outdoor space in your home they want there is and I’ll talk about this a little more we close the show there’s this is a bet on talent more than it is a bet on like the perfect fit or anything like that but who is Yon Hansen like who who who is this 20-year-old Chinese dude who’s like extremely extremely big and skilled well he’s he sort of found pretty early in China um I will say like like I mentioned I want to give credit where credit’s due i did a lot of lot of quick research before pressing record and and I want to I want to shout out the people that helped me uh Raphael Barlo at at Lockton NBA big board and and uh and also his Substack uh NBA big board uh has was on uh the was on the the young was a young believer early and wrote about him at the combine that’s how I first knew about him uh the the substack floor and ceiling that’s maintained by Wilco Martinez Cachero uh had a great YouTube uh highlight mix breakdown scouting report as well as as well as a full writeup uh and over at Sam Samosini at the Athletic also had a um you know in his his invaluable draft guide had a full breakdown of Young this is where I’ve learned most of this stuff plus a little bit of Wikipedia right like um I I I am I am indebted to the people who do this professionally and who who build these wonderful scouting reports and allow me to be more knowledgeable within about 45 minutes of the draft ending or so maybe about an hour after the draft ended I’m I’m finally pressing record because I feel comfortable talking about but but Yang was a was like a a youth standout and he was invited to join the Zebo Sports School in in Shangdong in China and like that is like hey this dude first of all he’s huge right he’s a just like a big 8-year-old but like it’s this is a youth that this is like someone who belongs and is going to be like pipelined into professional sports and play for the national team all these things it’s a prestigious invite right um and then you know he’s at at 16 um he is um signed by Ching Dao which is which is the the professional team that he’s playing for that’s that’s located in in in in Shangdong in in Ching Dao in the Chinese state of of Shangdong but like 16 signed professionally um and he crushes in the U7 Chinese league he’s he’s playing on the junior team he just crushes right he’s he’s MVP he’s dominant that’s in 2021 in the summer of 2022 he plays in the FIA U8 Asian Championship and this is where he like this is where he gets known in fact uh Cronin didn’t mention it by name but he said he saw them in like in a U8 league and that like that’s one of their scouts saw him in U8 competition that’s where they kind of first got on their radar and then they sent uh Schmidz and uh Sergey Oliva to go to go their assistant GMs to go continue to scout him and they said “Okay yeah this is this is someone that’s like certainly on the radar.” So the Blazers first become aware of him at this standout performance at at the FIA Nation Championship china wins third place he’s named to the all tournament team he’s hooping right like he’s all of a sudden on everybody’s radar he is 17 years old 7-footer right skilled 7-footer uh teenager so he moves to um in in in Ching Dao he moves to the senior team in 2022 at 17 promote to the senior team but he doesn’t play he’s just he’s he’s a he’s a um you know the way international leagues work sometimes it’s like you you kind of earn it and he’s and he’s super young he finally gets to play the following year 23 24 season he’s 18 years old he wins rookie of the year and defensive player of the year in his first in his first season playing for Ching Dao in in the CBA in China um averages 10 points or excuse me 14.7 points 11 rebounds 10.9 four assists uh to go with 2.2 blocks he’s like just filling up the stat sheet monster productive defensive player of the year rookie of the year um then the following season 1610 uh three assists uh to go with almost three blocks at 2.7 and then 24-25 he got some buzz in the 2024 draft right and he actually came over and played in summer league following getting that buzz and deciding not to go pro and like there was some uh at least according to to some of the the reporting I read on uh on floor and ceiling is like you know Ching Dao was a little bit worried like he’s going to leave like maybe we should like put him you know change a contract so there’s so there’s less sort of NBA outs if he does indeed get drafted if he’s like a draft and stash type of guy uh but he decides not to enter the 2025 draft he does play last summer in um in summer league and he you know he played for the Chinese team um and and they weren’t particularly good in terms of success but there were some moments particularly early his first couple games of summer league where it’s like yeah this Duke can hoop he’s the best he’s the best probably the best player on the team and he’s playing like it early in early in Vegas at summer league he’s he’s showing out in front of you know like it’s every every NBA team is there right um then he goes back to China and hoops right for Chinga 1610 three and 1610 and three that’s three assists along with three blocks Um he’s not a great shooter but he’s got like a a ton of offensive touch and I watched his highlights and listen dude kills it in the CPA like I can’t speak to you know I don’t have a good enough scouts eye and I got to assume that he’s just too big and too skilled for that league but I will say the highlights I watch is like grabbing goes off the board where he’s dying up teammates throwing it off the glass to himself creatively from from the three-point line to set up a layup just crushing f fools in the post a bunch of of fun um fun footwork to kind of get himself free and get to the middle of the paint and use use his right hands uh even the highlights from summer league like his his postwork and postwork is impressive and his touch around the rim is impressive right i’m not sure I’ve ever seen him miss at this point during my scouting of Yang Hansen i’m not sure I’ve seen him miss yet but I like But dude’s hooping gets invited to the NBA combine he’s on the rise and he plays in five on five which is what guys who are trying to you know fringy second rounder types play in five on five they’re trying to help their draft stock and Raphael Barlo wrote on his substack at the time uh that that Young was a big standout in both his performances in in the two games of five on five and when he talked to um when he talked to folks who were at the combine who work for teams he wrote the following what came through consistently evaluators liked his the size touch passing vision and competitive effort despite the language barrier he even knocked down a three flashing some shooting potential the concerns his foot speed and just one rebound on Wednesday but he but he was like he was a name to know yang Hansen is hooping and still so like here’s the rise right this is the rise he was very good as a 17-year-old at the 2022 FIA U8 championships he dominates two years in the Chinese league um he gets a little bit of draft buzz and he has a nice standout like standout performance in five on five competition at the combine and still heading into the 2025 draft you know who thought he was a firstrounder pretty much nobody none of them join me none of them raft did and Floren Ceiling did that’s Woko Martinez Cacerro um let’s let’s talk about where the prognosticators see him and the challenges that they think you know heading into this draft why he was ranked where he was we’ll talk about that close show and a little bit of kind of what the Blazers are doing with this selection calling their shot join me in that third segment won’t you first though let’s talk about underwear my underwear could be your underwear too if you’re into it skiims makes underwear for everybody uh you may know Skims from uh typically making fee fem cuts of underwear but now they just make really comfortable underwear quality stuff for everyone in your life including you no matter what you’re rocking um listen I’ve said this before I’ll say it again the worst thing that can happen when you are wearing your undergarments is that you have to consider them when you’re living your day-to-day life if you are going about your dayto-day and all of a sudden something comes up where you have to stop what you are doing and consider what’s going on with your underwear you’re having a bad time and uh Skim’s nice enough to send me over a couple pairs of underwear and I can say they are incredibly comfortable and here’s the biggest compliment I can pay them i never notice them when I’m living my life i put them on at the beginning of the day i’m like “Wow these are very comfortable they’re made of stretchy material that feels good and then I don’t notice them because I live my life and I can live my life doing whatever if I’m just like you know being a dad or shopping shopping for groceries or if I’m working out playing hoops whatever it might be I got a whole bunch of comfort lightweight material feels amazing it’s almost like wearing nothing at all and like I said you’re just you’re just doing you and not thinking about your undergarments so go shop all of the Skiims products uh at skims.com including Skiims men’s men’s line as well as all their other lines that’s at skims.com and let them know we sent you after you place your order select podcast in the survey and select my show in the drop-down menu that follows [Music] all right still a pass versus point guard but I’m still Mike Richmond and you are still listening to Locked on Blazers heading into the NBA draft ESPN had Yang Hansen ranked 35th on their big board he went 16th to the Blazers the Ringer had Young at 40th he went 16th to the Portland Trailblazers john Hollinger had him at 47 he went 16th to the Portland Trailblazers sam Vini had Young at 48 he went 16th to the Portland Trailblazers no ceilings 42 hoop Intellect 36 the uh there’s a website rookiescale.com that um puts together the consensus mocks like it it pulls all of the latest mock drafts from from around the web uh oh John Wasserman at from bleach report 45 but rookiescale.com they pull over they pull all of the sort of um the consensus mocks like kind of uh the big ones that I just read out to you as well as as as as what they call dozens of independent creators right it’s supposed to be hey what is kind of like if you’re just looking at sort of broad strokes um what is a guy’s roughly roughly his range this this consensus draft is pulled from the web rookiecale.com had Yang Hansen uh at 34th he was an early second round pick he was a second round guy 30 35 to 45 is pretty much his range except for two folks raphael Barlo in his day of mockdraft his final mockdraft the morning of the of uh of of day one of the draft that’s June 25th raphael Barlo friend of the program host of Locked on NBA Big Board and the publisher and owner of of NBA Big Board on Substack raphael Barlo at 27 mocked Young to the Brooklyn Nets at the time this is what he wrote young is a massive interior presence with soft hands and a natural feel for scoring around the rim but what really makes him stand out is his passing he’s a very gifted and clever facilitator out of the post he rebounds he has legitimate touch and he just knows how to find the right spots there’s a real foundation of skill and feel that makes him a fascinating long-term play 27th take a swing right and Raph admits in that same blur that that’s a pretty bold prediction i got a bolder one for you i mentioned Wilco Martinez Cacherero uh who has a scouting report and that’s filled with a whole bunch of fun highlights that I will link in this uh in the episode description for this episode at floor and ceilings it’s a substack I actually subscribed to probably in like right at the beginning of sort of my diving into the draft cuz um uh because Wilco does good good sort of like breakdowns and with with um he has written breakdowns and video breakdowns and he has good he has good stat breakdowns kind of just uh breaking down shot types and things like that um stuff that I like value because I I don’t I just quite frankly just don’t have time and space to do all of that type of good work and Wil’s doing it wilco had Yang Hansen at 12 on his final big board a true believer and if you watch that highlight tape that he posted you might be a true believer too but I think in general there is a reason that he that he is as far back as where he is and and it’s because of the defensive limitations like the he’s not really a shooter right like I think the shooting is mostly theoretical it’s um you’re hoping like he he has pretty good touch and he’s really good around the rim and scores in the paint he’s really big um and you’re hoping that gets there it’s you could probably see a way that he’s a good offensive player because he’s such a good passer and has such good touch that you can play through him like the comps the like stupid high-end comps like Alpurn Shenon and Joic right but I think like um I think they said in the ESPN broadcast Greg Monroe style but that was a pretty good one right cuz because Monroe was a good passer and a good interior scorer but he didn’t stretch the floor and he wasn’t particularly good defender and I think that’s the concern with Young uh ESPN on on Young’s weaknesses wrote the following slow-footed with questionable awareness intensity and agility guarding in space yang has significant questions to answer defensively he doesn’t offer the floor spacing potential one might hope to compens to compensate for his lack of explosiveness yeah like I that’s why he was where he was because the skill package and the size are tantalizing he’s 71 with all this skill if you drafted him at 35 it would be so easy to talk yourself into but the Blazers didn’t do that they traded back to get him at 16 a middle first round pick and the only pick they have in this draft this is a bet on him like I said at the top of the show this is a buck the consensus like truly truly think outside the box the most surprising pick of the first round this was the shocker the Blazers had the shocker in this one and it’s a stunner because of you know sort of the consensus and there’s some there’s an occasion to group think but I also like if this many smart people had them in this you know say like ESPN at 35 Samini at 48 right I think I think uh Gavon and Woo at ESPN are really really good and I think Samini is really really good I like the guys know ceilings I like who I like Raph a lot right so if you just take th that range 27 to 40 to 48 nobody was like really staking their claim on this dude like Raf Raphael Barlo was saying like I would take him at 27 knowing this is a bold swing that’s what he wrote this is a bold swing this is a this maybe my most my boldest swing of the first round take him at 27 so why the Blazers do this i want to close the show they believe they believe but this isn’t a fit thing the the I am a big believer that um if you are pretty much every team in the draft should always just take best player available there are some exceptions if you’re a really good team that needs like the right type of big man you can draft for fit um but it should probably still be within tiers of talent right you don’t want to reach for fit um and I think there’s probably like a bell curve of fit versus uh fit versus uh best player available i think at the the ends of the draft the beginning and and the and the tail end you’re just always always always always under no under there’s no circumstance where you don’t just draft best player available i think at the middleish you know like maybe something like 28 to 35 in that in that chunky middle drafting like players we think this sort of like this player could fit our need and we’re hoping it works out and we don’t want to take a a crazy upside swing here knowing that like we’d rather have someone be like a 40% chance of being an NBA player than a 3% chance of them being a star right like it’s you kind of I think need is makes more sense than the sort of the middle spots but the Blazers aren’t in a position to do that they should never have been concerned in any way shape or form about the players on the roster with this pick certainly like if you have players roughly in the same range like the same tier right say okay these are three guys who are all in the exact same tier we don’t need another guard we could use another forward right like I think that is totally fine to make to inform your decisions but in general you just want to draft the best player available and what the Blazers are saying with this pick is they thought Yang Hunson is a firstround talent and the best player available and they would have taken him at 11 that’s what they’re telling us they would they would have taken out 11 but they didn’t they didn’t they felt like they could get value getting back an unprotected 28 28 first round pick two two unprotected seconds in 27 and 28 um like get some value and trade back and get their guy but Young doesn’t have a clear path to play like it’s hard to imagine him playing next to Donovan Klingan ever um but like even like with the roster as it currently stands DeAndre’s on the team dom King’s on the team rob Williams although his availability is uncertain still on the roster like um this is a bet on talent this is a bet on talent which I think is the in general the right move if you would asked me yesterday to name I don’t know 30 players the Blazers could draft at 11 young Enson wouldn’t have been on my list it wouldn’t have made it i wouldn’t have who wouldn’t I would not have penciled him in one just like position but like positional versatility he wouldn’t been on the list is not my cup of tea in terms of like one position players um and also just like I I am a victim of the consensus to some extent because I’m not a draft expert no way no way he would have been on on my list no way no way the Blazers safe to say they know a lot more than me right but like this is they are staking their claim they are staking their claim this is as I said at the top of the show this is the type of pick that proves your expertise or it’s the meme you get buried with this is this is such an outsidethe box like non- consensus selection that this is either the thing you get made fun of for right that it’s like remember when they took freaking Yang at 16 what was that about or it is the proof of your scouting prowess and the reason that you get trusted to continue to do this because you can identify talent and then the next step develop it young’s just he’s he just turned 20 like I’m recording this it’s not even midnight in Portland right he’s still 19 as I am recording this he’s a teenager he’s a teenager who played in the CBA which is not a super super high level uh according to Vini’s write up one of his big challenges is just not physical enough to play to be like a true um to kind of use the gifts that other players of his ilk use like one of the way like Shenun and Jokic those are obviously super high-end examples but I think you could throw like Damata Sabonus in there the like the secret to their sauce of being guys who like Jokic has you know the best player of the last I don’t know a long time he’s he’s certainly the best player in the world right now like so I don’t even I don’t even like that comp but like even like u I don’t know throw Marcusaul in there who ended up shooting late in his career strength right you couldn’t knock them off their spot so their touch was really valuable because they they could establish position and hold position um and that’s going and and at least according to to Vini scout it’s like he’s worried about just the the general strength that uh that Young bring there are there are concerns about his ability to guard NBA level athletes so it’s not like he just plugandplay because the roster doesn’t have room for him and he probably needs seasoning so there’s two things the Blazers are betting on one they’re betting on their ability to identify talent and two they’re betting on their ability to develop that talent because you can draft a talented player but if you can’t mold that player and and some of it is on the player as well but certainly like within your system and like um particularly for a guy who doesn’t have like a path to play and if the Blazers are trying to be competitive it’s not like they’re just going to like p you know like trying to shoehorn him in minutes or whatever like can you get him behind the scenes get him stronger get his body you know get his body ready for NBA competition in terms of like conditioning and and adding some and adding functional strength without losing some of his skills and then you map on that right you’d map on the development plan you have for him and you believe in your development and you already have this teenager who’s highly highly skilled and plays really smart and plays like you know he’s like a dude who who reads the floor and makes super good like super smart passes you watch some his highlights in the CBA i’m telling you grabbing the ball off the rim dribbling up the court at 7-1 and dying up his teammates looking like freaking Palasol i never seen him miss a shot this I would have never made this pick in a cajillion years because I don’t know anything the Blazers are betting on themselves and they are putting those chips their bets behind Yan Hansen uh second round of the NBA draft is tomorrow night the Blazers currently do not have a selection but um they they could acquire one and so whatever happens uh I will cover round two of the draft tomorrow and we will look ahead to what’s next for the Blazers um shout out to all my hopefully all my new Chinese listeners who are who are hanging out with the show um I’m happy to have you what a what a fun fascinating journey that Yang’s going to be on um yeah uh 5 days a week wherever you get podcasts also on YouTube tell your friends about the program come back for tomorrow’s program as well come back for tomorrow’s episode as well i appreciate you listening i’ll talk to you soon

Does this mean DA and Robert Williams are finally getting moved? We could use the assets
Yang might be better Yao
I do like Yang, but I wish we could have traded back into the late 1st round from 16 and gathered more assets while still getting him. Thoughts on that Mike?
Fuxk it im rolling with yang just like i did with ant and gary trent🫡
Beyond Yang's reported skill and talent in the Chinese league, a major reason to draft him is to have a Chinese star on a team that is in the process of selling to offer the new owner the Asian market opportunities if this kid works out. It is about the opportunity of money courtesy of Asia.
Mike I absolutely love your work. Listen to Locked on everyday but in this case I don't think you're looking at some of this stuff the right way. Sorry. First I don't think the Holiday trade is a much about winning now is people think. I simply look at it as a quality individual who plays awesome defense mentoring two guys who don't. I think it's more about the Blazers future than people are stating. As far as the draft pick goes of course it was a swing but I'd also like to point out that your boy Raphael Barlowe has been raving about Hansen Yang for 2 months. Yes it was a reach at 16 like Cronin admitted. Brooklyn might take him at 19 or 22. And even if that was the case who's to say anybody in the twenties was willing to trade up with Portland. Obviously all this stuff will take time to really , bad moves or good moves. I remember last year people thinking that trading Brogdon the number 14 and a future one for Deni was a bad idea. We should have taken Dalton Knecht. To me that idea at this point looks ridiculous.
Looking at who was drafted after him I don’t really see anybody I really wanted at 16.Hope this works out out or could go down with the other blown picks we’re famous for
get ready for some skyrocketing numbers in subscribers, gotta learn how to say smash that like button in chinese
how’re we thinking him and donovan clingan are going to play together? are we thinking yang will be the 2nd team center at least for right now?
i was initially upset with the pick but after looking into him further i totally get the excitement from the FO. Very skilled for his size and if you squint REALLY hard you can see the sengun/jokic comps but he’s also huge and has potential as a shot blocker. Will have to see if we’re moving off ayton/rob this season to know if this is a great pick or just an ok pick. My only real concern is in the future we won’t have a big who can work vs small ball line ups.
He reminds me of Noah Vonlee
10K already. At least Portland did you a solid with this!!
Great episode Mike. I really enjoyed hearing the good with the bad about yang. I’m excited but still shocked.
To bad he don't rebound or play good D WTF is going on w these freaking clowns???
Sounds like they have time to develop him given their depth. They don't NEED him to play this season. Ayton and Reath might be gone after this season. Adding a first and two seconds while getting a guy the team seems to already love? Sounds like a decent draft. The Simons haters even get to rejoice too.
What is his last name? I see both Hansen Yang and Yang Hansen with Google searches. Articles use both as a last name when talking about other players in the draft.
Will be the dumbest pick in the draft not based on the player but the team 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He’s not that high upside to talk about him compared to someone like Coward
All we need is another player from India, then we will be so popular around the world.
Prepare to be buried because it’s not like your team is ever going to be good
The new Twin Tower in the Rose City. Cling & Yang. 😂
