[Music] with the 51st pick in the 2025 NBA draft the New York Knicks select Mohamad Diawara the wing out of France you’re watching Knicks Now by Chat Sports i’m your host Marshall Green and we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about Diwara this is a pick that the Knicks did not own they actually owned the 50th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft but they decided to trade back one pick with the Los Angeles Clippers and they acquired Luca with the pick except it’s not the Luca you think it’s a 32-year-old named Luca that will never ever play in the NBA there’s some rumors out there the Knicks are getting some cash considerations as well but that is irrelevant because that money just goes into the pocket of James Dolan and it stinks because um the guy that I wanted went number 50 which was the Knicks pick and then they traded him to the Clippers and Kobe Sanders but the Knicks leave the draft their only selection with Mohamad Diwara this is a guy that has an interesting player profile 6’8 he’s got a long wingspan almost 7 foot4 he’s a really good athlete as well but he’s kind of an unknown commodity at this point he’s got great athletic profile for a forward with length and speed for his size he’s a solid defender that’s his calling card he could defend multiple positions and in the NBA as he gets older and adds some strength he has tools to become even better on that side of the floor hasn’t really shown much consistency though as a shooter or a scorer this is the guy last year that played 19 and a half minutes per game and he averaged six points per game and 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists and shot 43% from the field there’s some people that believe he has some playmaking chops and he’s going to be able to handle the ball in the NBA and as he continues to grow but I see a guy that probably won’t play for the Knicks next year and probably won’t be on the Knicks for a while i see this as a draft and stash pick and a move that the Knicks made to avoid having to pay someone the salary that it would cost of being the 50th overall selection the Knicks are trying to save every dollar they can to stay below that second apron my question to you is this what’s your grade for the pick of Mohamad Diawara A B C D or F let me know your thoughts down in the comments section look I it’s really hard to grade this pick i’m going to say unavailable like can’t be graded because nobody with a life knows who he is chris Percion on and saying this about him shout out to Chris he’s crushing it over at Clutch Points mohamd Diwir is the pick for the Knicks at number 51 69 in shoes with a 7 foot4 wingspan and a 9 foot2 standing reach he’s raw on offense and as a shooter has all the tools defensively to be a switchable forward and he’s got experience playing in France as a U20 starter the jumper is a swing factor he does play hard has a good motor but he has to get better on that end the Knicks did actually work out Diwara the Knicks have a pre-draft workout scheduled with the 69 French wing muhammad Diawara is 20 years old has 7 foot4 reported wingspan and the standing reach like we talked about has serious defensive versatility and has been receiving advice from Pomeier who they are supposedly really great friends and that’s everything that New York Knicks beat reporters are saying and Begley saying this Mohamd Diawara is also good friends with Knicks 2024 firstround pickier the 20-year-old Diawara is viewed as a good athlete and strong defender he spent time defending the opposing team’s lead ball handler for France’s U20 team per the NBA draft.net website so the defensive versatility was shown off played a big role on that team guarding quick athletic guards and uh he actually spoke to you about what actually pretty excited for summer league you’re going to see Dawara you’re going to see Pakome Doier you’ll see Tyler Ko i think you should see Ariel Huckporty you’ll also see Kolick Aporti McCuller Dier and Diwir so the five picks the New York Knicks have made over the last two years i thought this tweet from James L edwards of The Athletic was pretty exciting uh exciting is not the wrong word pretty informative given financials and a win now nature hard to see a world where the New York Knicks use the pick to sign a player to the roster unless someone unexpected fell yeah Kolic Dier and Hakorty with the team option assuming Hucky is picked up that’s 10 players under contract before free agency so the Knicks already have a couple of players on their roster and Mohamd Diara actually attended the Knicks game in January uh of 2025 in the blowout win over the Utah Jazz diwara spoke recently about who he thinks he could be in the NBA and he said this which I think it’s always good to hear from the player on who they think that they could be he said uh on his game my shooting my defense the way I could play many positions I feel like I’m ready for the NBA and he said he spoke with PCOM Dier recently for some advice and he said that’s my friend he was asked about his weaknesses more regular on my three and he’s working on it and he said I love Jane Daniels and Pascal Seakum i don’t understand how he can say my shooting and then say his weakness is more regular uh needs to be better on my three look this is a draft and stash player you pick someone 51st overall um you’re hoping down the line that he can be a player in this rotation and on this team is he going to be i don’t know i don’t expect to see him with the Knicks in 2025 but I am excited to see what he does in the summer league as that is just a couple of weeks away and that should be a lot of fun one thing I’ll say is the New York Knicks continue to punt on the NBA draft and I think sooner rather than later that could come back to bite them a lot of people always kind of attributed that to Tom Tibido being the head coach well Tom Tibido is not here you don’t have a head coach and Leon Rose punts again on the NBA draft and this isn’t the first time he’s done it he’s done it a couple of times since being here um not trying to get too worked up about the Knicks passing up on Kobe Sanders at 50 but I was a big fan of his and I think he’s going to be a solid player in this league 6’8 guard that does everything at a pretty solid level but you leave the draft with a young Frenchman the wing
