ESPN SC | Shams REPORTS: Knicks discussing major trade to bring Mikal Bridges to New York
later in the summer um Tim what do you think ultimately happens with Giannis it doesn’t seem like he wants to be in Milwaukee so what do you think is going to go down wow that’s a great question like I always take a question like that and be like if we’re going to take away your house and take away your family and you have to get this answer right I would say he stays in Milwaukee like if you really am like Tim what do you think happens at the end of the day or else your house is gone i think he stays in Milwaukee now I think the Bucks should explore every option because their window is closed we talked about a lot of windows during this segment bye-bye they ain’t winning the championship anytime soon especially with that roster so what else is out there i would I would look at every possible offer and if I’m Giannis you have to look in the mirror and be like I cannot win a championship here get me out of dodge i I think he knows that but to Tim’s my only push back to Tim’s point is the Bucks will make will not make a move with Giannis unless Giannis comes to them and says “I want out.” Because you don’t land a player like Giannis every single draft and I think that they’re going to do everything they can to try to appease Giannis what that looks like I think I think it’s a dead end road but I will say that they are not moving Giannis unless Giannis comes to them and says “I want to be traded get me out of Milwaukee.” Do you know how good Giannis is they put us his brother on the team who stinks they’re like “Oh your brother wants to be No problem the Nasses alone whatever you want your brother wants to play no who else what you want Damian Lillard no problem want to say goodbye to Chris Middle they’ve done everything they can if you’re a Bucks fan you have to be like “Man we’ve tried everything.” I do I do agree though with Tim the road is is has hit a dead end with Giannis and the Milwaukee Bucks he needs to do what’s best for himself at this point ashley let’s talk about what’s best for your for your Knicks because there’s a report out there the Knicks didn’t have any picks leave us alone no no it’s a different report separate from the draft just a separate topic there is a report out there oh my lord oh I’m not doing this lower third they um are discussing a male Bridges tree for who that’s what I was going to ask you no what makes sense okay nothing leave it alone don’t touch it look um what the heck why are we catching a strike leave us be um I think the Knicks are in a great position obviously they need more outside shooting i think they need to solidify their benchmark but when you talk about the starting unit there’s nothing wrong with this starting unit obviously you have to figure out Jaylen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns and can you play those two guys together and Carl Anthony Towns needs to be better at committing to the defense that’s been a shortcoming of his but when you talk about just the individual pieces and on paper how this team looks you also have to remember male and Cat didn’t have a lot of time to get acclimated to this new situation we have to give them another season under their belt to really figure out what this team can do but the benefit of the Who’s that guy in the picture that’s Tom Tibido hey Tibs um but I think the benefit of the Knicks in this upcoming season is that the East is wide open you have the Cleveland Cavaliers we know that hopefully they’ll run it back be healthy in the postseason but the Boston Celtics no Jason Tatum the Pacers no Tyres well I’m talking about teams that won’t have their stars so as a Nick fan you want just let’s go let’s put the band back together and we’ll play again i want the band back together with some additions of a better bench more outside shooting but you don’t need to trade the house to get that you can do small things on the margins the Knicks need to focus on the margins they don’t need to focus on the big fish i I agree unless Jana says you know I want to go to New York City then we’re having a different conversation i I I think the Knicks are going to be right in the mix with this squad like they they have to add some shooting they got to get a little more bench depth i think they need to figure out who’s going to coach the team that would be beneficial as well they put out a million requests as far as their roster like I think to trade a guy like Miguel Bridges you better get someone who could fit on both ends of the floor cuz the guy not only does he play offensive defense he plays every game he’s ultra durable he’s a fantastic teammate i think it’d be a mistake to move him yeah y’all aren’t touching Male Bridges i will defend him myself i will get in front of the line of fire okay Ashley Tim Hugh the Suns making some headlines amid the draft acquiring center Mark Williams from the Hornets so we’re looking at the trade details in return Charlotte is going to get the number 29 pick in this year’s draft and the uh 2029 draft so that’s what they got um they took Liam McNeely with that number 29 pick in the draft williams was almost sell to the Lakers if you remember at the trade deadline but failed a physical that nicks the deal and now he heads to Phoenix coming off the season averaging 15 points and 10 boards per game all right back here on set we have Ashley Nicole Moss and Tim Doyle here to talk about it and uh Mark Williams he is heading to Phoenix and they also drafted to center in Kaman Malawatch via Houston and some trades there um Ashley we kind of talked about this a little bit with with Mike O’Donnell and Tim with them having two centers and they needed a lot of help in the front court but how do you assess this decision here to to get Mark Williams from from Charlotte you know I think Phoenix is trying to do everything they can to to still be relevant in the West you lose Kevin Durant you do lose a player who provides a lot when fully healthy and I think that the Phoenix Suns believe that the timetable and the window is not completely closed and this is still a team that can compete that wants to compete and you know when you get Jaylen Green and now partnering him up with um uh Devin Booker and also having Dylan Brooks you still have a very competitive team that you need to do right by so I think that the Phoenix Suns organization made the best move mark Williams is a great center as we know he was on his way to LA once upon a time and then that just kind of went haywire um but this is a team you can tell by this starting lineup you can tell by the moves that the Phoenix Suns are making that this is an organization that just because Kevin Durant is no longer in a Phoenix Suns jersey does not mean the future is not bright they believe that they can still compete and win basketball games and that’s what they’re trying to do they can’t they can’t compete for a real championship no but they can be a competitive team in the Western Conference how many wins when you see that team how many wins does that team need it still needs work it still needs a a reliable bench how many wins thank you 43 i would I would say I would probably say mid-4s yeah i I know I put you on the spot no I would say mid-40s i think Mark Williams you know it’s interesting they drafted Malawatch you know that’s good for guys right mark Williams obvious double double in the NBA like they could pair each other up and they could work out against each other he could teach Malawatch how to be a professional he’s got a huge upside but I think Mark Williams could also be a chip for them because let’s just say things start going haywire there and now they want to sell obviously the Lakers want him but there’s other teams that are going to want him out there so maybe you keep him for a half a season you move on from him when I saw that full screen of the roster I was laughing that’s an AA team that’s not a basketball team i mean Bradley Beal is not a flex it used to be back in the day it’s not an AA basketball green is an AA basketball team looking looking at the conferences though and obviously the West is a lot more stacked than the East the East is in absolute complete disarray but you have to think about it look you have in the Western Conference Oklahoma City Houston you have OKC you have Houston you always have to count Denver Minnesota Minnesota could be a wild card it could be a playing team the Lakers could also be a wild card if they don’t get uh Luca a center dallas he’s Dallas is going to also be interesting because they’re not going to be 100% healthy and how healthy will they be throughout the regular season i think that the West outside of the top four is a lot more open than people think you have the Memphis Grizzlies you don’t know what that team’s going to look like the San Antonio Spurs are now in the Everybody you named I’ll take ahead of I’ll take ahead of you i’m not saying a maybe not a playoff team i do think this could be a playin team i’m not saying a championship contender but this is a team that could still win basketball you were just talking about a window what window you said window a window to be competitive not to necessarily win this is not a team that’s just So it’s a different window it’s a window on the first floor not a window on the second floor cuz when I hear windows I think championship windows i don’t think mid-level windows it’s a It’s a middle of the It’s a middle of the road window meaning that just because Kevin Durant is gone doesn’t mean that this team is in complete disarray that they can’t win basketball games they’re still trying she’s right but I think there could be a midseason of a this is not working we’re selling everybody we’re selling everybody we’re selling Mark Williams we’re selling we’re selling everybody okay and in the West to your point it is very competitive and there’s been conversations about the Spurs and what they look like are they going to be in the mix not necessarily a contender they use their first round picks on Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant you’re shaking your head Ashley how come filthy i I’m a I’m a big fan of what San Antonio is but I like the So this is a good a good Yeah when when when they I love Dylan Harper i’m a big fan of his game and just looking at this roster this is a team again i absolutely have so much respect for the San Antonio Spurs and what they do behind closed doors the just the the way they handle business in the front office how they handle business with their roster this is a young talented team now this is not a championship team but this is definitely a team that if they can stay healthy they are a team you’ve got to look out for and I would say in comparison of roster to roster age for age they’re probably to my in my opinion the biggest threat to the Oklahoma City Thunder next year meet this upcoming season yes wow that’s saying a lot i I have Houston ahead of them okay i I get her upside when I see the talent on that roster a lot of talent now you got some guys that do similar things darren Fox there is some a lot of overlap yes that is true harper Stefan Castle yes they still only play with one basketball in San Antonio so the point is guys are going to have to iron out their roles and if that can get out and maybe Dylan Harper’s a guy that becomes your main guy when you know the second team is out there because Stefan Castle is a dog like this is a guy who’s going to average 20 points a game in the NBA dear Fox is already a guy who averages 20 points a game in the NBA you have WBY so you have like a lot you have three guys that kind of do the same thing obviously Wii is a a once in a generation talent i agree with Ashley the upside to this team is crazy but now everyone’s got to start figuring out their roles and what they’re going to do to help this team win i don’t think they’re ready to like splash next year and go to a Western Conference final but I do think they’re a playoff team no I I I absolutely when I say the biggest competitor to the Oklahoma City Thunder I think that if they ever came into a series matchup with Oklahoma City because I do think it’s a playoff team I think that they could give the Oklahoma City Thunder a run for their money in a sevename series i don’t think that they’re coming out of the West i still think you know you got to give respect to the Thunder you got to give respect to the the Houston Rockets now there are other teams that come in the mix but I will tell you this any if this team can get into the playoffs and to Tim’s point if everyone could figure out their roles this is a dangerous team to play against in a seven game they have like a really exciting window we talked about the mid-level window we talked about championship window they have a window that’s like they’re still building the window we don’t even know how big the window is going to be in San Antonio yeah it’s it’s it’s very exciting i I love what I’m seeing from San Antonio so far okay so the Spurs they were obviously a team that was there were murmurss of them you know maybe trading away some of those picks and and going to get Giannis and we talked about that with the Nets as well right so um want to talk about the Nets first before we get to the Giannis side of things tim the Nets used all five of those picks which were that was something we talked about yesterday we thought hey maybe it’s the smarter move to you know trade away get some assets so where are you at on the Nets and and using all of those five first round picks let’s just say this the draft is very important to building a team oklahoma City just proved that with Chad Homegrren Jaylen Williams they drafted those guys i think building teams where you sell off all your draft picks and bring in an old veteran guy i don’t think that’s the championship model that I would build as a GM i thought they had too many first round picks i thought they should have packaged them and went out and got either a higher pick i was looking for them to land Ace Bailey now you go through these guys demen I think is going to be a fantastic basketball player in three years uh Trior huge question mark powell averaged single digits at North Carolina sarif is a work in progress better defender danny Wolf’s got you know a sevenfooter that put the ball on the floor i think he’s going to be a Frank Kaminsky type 10ear NBA player i think he’s going to be a solid backup in the NBA but you they drafted a bunch of kids i actually don’t know how any of these guys are going to pay out this is like a really tough thing i would have tried to move up and draft a star and I thought a star was Ace Bailey so did they absolutely like did they kill the draft no did they get destroyed no we won’t know probably for five years yeah it was very interesting for them to utilize all their picks and it was interesting with the choices they made with those picks because to Tim’s point there’s not an immediate impact with any of these players it’s a very long game and the thing that’s interesting to me is the Brooklyn Nets kind of were in a situation where they had enough to get a player that would be an immediate impact like Giannis like a Giannis or even you know to Tim’s point he was high on Ace Bailey and necessarily they wouldn’t have been a championship contender maybe they would have struggled to even get into the playoffs i mean the East is wide open so anything could have happened but I think that you wanted to this was your draft to kind of jumpstart your rebuild and I don’t know if they jumpst started it i think they just kind of put themselves in a position to play the long game i just don’t think the Brooklyn Nets are one of those teams that a lot of people are are excited to go to because they’re not excited about what they’re building in Brooklyn there’s really it’s kind of a weird limbo situation i I think they have a philosophy of how they’re going to try to play you have some international guys there who can pass dribble and shoot danny Wolf’s a pass dribble and shoot sevenfooter like they’re trying to play a European style poor man’s San Antonio Spurs method which is so interesting i was basically what it is i was looking at the Spurs roster it was like the first time I saw like almost all Americans with the exception of It’s a poor man’s version of what the Spurs did in in back back in the day and they just didn’t do it very well so a couple weeks ago we were talking about all of these teams who had you know a bevy of picks and maybe they could use that to go get a Giannis onto Dmpo and and there’s reports out there now saying that he still could be traded hello hello [Music] oh my goch [Music] now easy [Music] [Applause] number come on i love [Applause] you now [Applause] you die hey Good job [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] Don’t start okay [Music] stop i love this one go too [Music] okay okay uncle
