NBA Draft Reactions – Pick No. 4, The Charlotte Hornets Select Kon Knueppel!
charlotte Hornets select Khan Canipple out of Duke with the fourth overall pick tonight there’s going to be minutes for him to be had dion I think this Hornets team needs some stability in the back court with LaMelo’s injury with his track record with injuries and even some of the inefficiencies that are still plaguing him at this point what is it five years into his career i like the fit i think it could work a lot i don’t know if I’m crazy about taking him at number four when there are higher upside guards available but I’ll turn it over to you first what does this pick mean for Charlotte i think it it means a little bit of a seriousness um and I know that’s crazy to say for Charlotte given who’s on this roster but last year they took Taji Tajan Saloon did I say that who shot below 30% from the field his rookie year i remember when the pick happened um and we all were do well you guys were doing the live show but I was like one of the the betting correspondents and G goes “What do you think of the pig?” And my response was “I have no idea who that is i still don’t know who that is by the way.” Um and I think they went from taking a lot of guys and by the way I love the coverage G and Cart are doing right now this is phenomenal i have it on to my left like they’re doing a phenomenal job um but um it signals they’re they’re moving away from let’s just take the guy who like might be Nicolola Joic and let’s just take a guy who can actually hoop man and let let’s not like actually like play with this i I don’t think Khan’s upside is crazy high um but like we’re talking about a guy who Wasserman just compared him to Cameron Johnson i get it i said this on the VJ video you probably don’t want to pick at three and you’re taking Victor Oladipo you probably don’t want to pick at four and you’re taking Cam Johnson that’s a very very safe pick Charlotte and you have LaMelo you have Brandon Miller let’s get some guys around them that can actually hoop that are willing to compete one thing you’ll never question about my baby Blue Devils my baby Blue Devils we going to compete we not them dudes down tobacco road that are going to quit on everybody and then they want to transfer and stuff we going to compete crazy i love that uh I love that angle with him as just someone who feels like a sure thing who feels like he’s going to be able to get minutes because of that shooting because of the secondary playmaking as well i think if I was a Hornets fan which to be clear I am not i’m not claiming them i’m from North Carolina i’m not a Hornets fan can’t rock I can’t rock with them i just don’t really see why like I would rather take a swing on Jeremiah Fierce Trey Johnson Casper Yakosonas at the same time I get it like they they drafted Nick Smith Jr a couple years ago thinking like who maybe there’s like Jeremiah Fears feels very Nick Smithy that’s the worst worst case scenario for him but yeah with Khan like the shooting is the cell i think there’s potential for him to be an elite shooter both on the move and on the catch whether it’s whether it’s just spot up or coming off of screens to me where I do see like even more of the upside beyond just him being a safe pick oh and he’s got his whole family we got all five of the brothers on stage right now dang Kager might be the uh the most fitted of them all in the burgundy suit i like that do you think K can’t cross his legs that’s why I respect so G has his legs crossed and Cart doesn’t and do we think Cart can’t do it or does he not is he uncomfortable i don’t think he can do it i think Cart Riley said that i just asked a question cart I just think he you know he probably needs to do a little bit of yoga a little bit of Pilates something like that will get that issue fixed but with Khan the cell to me beyond the shooting is the secondary playmaking his ability to operate out of ball screens go back and watch the ACC tournament when Flag was hurt if you want to see him at his best granted he had a great lob threat in common Malawatch but still I think the feel is there the handle’s better than you expect the weaknesses is really just the athleticism the lack of length getting I I would say like going back and even watching like the the Arizona Sweet 16 game he really struggled getting around screens while he was like guarding Anthony Deloro who’s not I mean good shooter not necessarily the most dynamic player out there that’s the concern is on the defensive side of things but I buy the work ethic i buy the size enough to to not maybe in time he won’t be targeted so to speak like defensively i don’t know he’s going to get targeted on defense i had to think about that i I didn’t I paused Blue Devil Nation i didn’t want to be the one to say he’s going to get targeted on defense he’s going to be a target on defense but I I the cell would be for him to like be less targeted on defense is just the work ethic and his willingness to compete and his willingness to get in a stance i actually talked to him Dion after the game against UNCC in the Dean Dome which yes UNCC lost how many How many North Carolina players did you talk to this year a lot i talked to one of them who will be drafted hopefully tonight in Drake Pal how many draftes from North Carolina did you talk to one drake how many from Duke did you talk to i actually think was that the only time I can’t remember if I I actually don’t think I got a question to Cooper Flag that night he was sworn by reporters and that was the only time I saw him play so So one for one on each one for one on each yeah duke Duke Blue Devil fan Riley Davis get out of here charlotte he’s staying home kind of okay khan was also a great interview though and they held Carolina to like two points down the final 10 minutes maybe it was four points and I dropped that stat to Khan and he it shocked him him he’s like “Wow I can’t believe we clamped him that badly.” But um I mean you could even tell from talking to him when it’s genuine you see a player like actually take pride in defense and I get he has some of the athleticism uh limitations there and not to go all like Caucasian basketball player trope but I think he will compete on that end even if he’s not very good but hey Charlotte you got a safe pick guy should be able to come in and give you at least I don’t know what do you see him averaging his rookie year like 12 13 14 a game oh no no no no no no i I think people way too over oversell how the impact rookies will have i I think I’ll have like a a solid like nine okay and three or four assists see I’m glad you’re here to balance me out i know I tend to go so positive and think everybody’s going to hit their ceiling yeah let’s go nine points knock down a bunch of threes maybe get you a couple like viral moments where Khan hits five five threes in a quarter or something we’ll see

Saläun is a better prospect than Ka-Nipple. High ranked Duke prospects usually underachieve. They make better role players.
It's a perfect pick for what the Hornets need. There were no players taking the ball out of Ball, Miller and Bridges hands in this draft. Miller, i believe will evolve into a star next year. The other move is to trade for a big that can hit their three. Miles Turner, Naz Reid or Brook lopez(with Lopez being a backup) all these players are unrestricted free agents. With Miles being the 1st choice, he would be our defensive anchor for Knueppel.
