Indiana Pacers – Kam Jones steal of NBA Draft? IU adds K-State to sched! Colts 4 positions of doubt!
busy busy busy night for the Indiana Pacers they get two guys in the NBA draft last night second rounders one of whom is going to play next year and is going to contribute that’s Cam Jones the other from Liberty the best shooter in college basketball last year i don’t know how much he’s going to play but you know what when you draft a guy 54th you take some you take some risks and maybe he can if you’re going to take a risk you take a risk with a shooter right it it’s unusual for a bad shooter to become a good one but maybe you can take a good shooter make him a decent defender enough that he can play and and contribute to the G-League or contribute at some point to the Pacers i think it’s fine i think they did good work last night i think Cam Jones out of Marquette’s a real guy who can come in next year and absolutely play averaged over 19 points a game last year in the Big East we saw him play a couple of times against Butler last year i like Cam Jones a lot indiana basketball has added Kansas State to its non-conference schedule for this upcoming season and I love it mo good basketball is better for Indiana basketball isn’t it so we got Kentucky we got Louisville uh we got K State we got Marquette the affforementioned Marquette without Cam Jones which is a good thing and so we’ll see what happens i’m bullish on Darren Dere and the kind of basketball team he’s putting together and the kind of schedule he’s putting together let’s talk about the Indianapolis Colts hey you know what they got positions in doubt last year all starters returned you knew who was going to start at every position from a team that the previous year did not go to the playoffs and still we kind of jinned ourselves into some hope that the Colts were going to be a little bit better this year there’s genuine competition at a bunch of positions and you know what if you feel better about the Colts as a result of that I love your sense of optimism that’s a good thing we’re going to talk about the positions of doubt and the positions of strength we’ll talk about the fever last night they pick up an L because they really played bad basketball in the fourth quarter last night first three quarters good they led by eight uh fourth quarter they got beat by 18 that was not strong aaliyah Boston Kelsey Mitchell they put the ball in the bucket a little bit sophie Cunningham had some buckets that’s a good thing the L for the for the fever not a very good thing cubs by the way we’re not going to talk about it but they got a three nothing uh win against the St louis Cardinals yesterday and Shot Emmanagas returned from the IIL this is Breakfast with Kent for Friday it’s Friday it’s Friday it’s Friday it’s a Friday that is uh I if I were programming a music radio station that would be in heavy rotation that’s a Friday would be recorded by me written by me would be in heavy rotation all right uh Friday June 27th 2025 brought to you by the great people at Today’s Dentistry dr mike hit that subscribe button hit the like button because it’s the polite thing to do you get nothing for it there’s no benefit to it except you feel good about yourself for being a polite human being and that’s what hooers are aren’t we yes the answer is and if you want to make a donation make a donation no big whoop but please include a comment or a question that elevates the level of discourse for the channel all right let’s talk about the Indiana Pacers and the Pacers draft cam Jones taken with the 38th overall pick i love this pick cuz he is NBA ready played four years at Marquette he was a three-year starter last year he scored 19.2 had almost six assists a game this is a ball dominant guy who can absolutely play he’s got an NBA ready body not a great defender at this point but you know what he could become a competent defender quickly eric Dobby says “Morning Kent looking forward to our dinner at St elmos in January when the Colts win the division love your show.” It’s about time they did you know what I mean let’s go they They need to win the division don’t they the AFC South is utterly getable over the last eight years the best team in the AFC South has a 500 record colts in the aggregate the second best team in the AFC South just under 500 what is going on here how can you not win that division over the course of an 8-year era as a general manager chris Ballard better get that done am I right or am I right um Talon Peter taken 54th oh by the way I think Cam Jones might be the steel of the draft because I think he’s ready to play he’s not going to be the best player in the draft but I think that he’s a guy who could come from nowhere to play significant minutes for the Pacers this coming season he was really good at Marquette he looked like he could play i get that the NBA draft a lot of it is about potential and drafting to the potential growth that a player has and and uh Cam Jones doesn’t have a lot of growth necessarily ahead of him but where he’s at he can contribute to a successful NBA program talon Peter is from Liberty 6’4 and uh he hit 75.6% of his twos last year he’s a 6’4 guard usually that kind of number you see from a 7’4 in guy who just stands underneath the basket and dunks it no this guy can hit shots from everywhere he hit 40 45.3% from beyond the arc in his one year at Liberty he’s kind of a surprise pick at 54 but what the hell takes take a chance he’s got upside dude can shoot we know that and shooting’s good good shooters tend to be good basketball players so why not i never heard of the guy to tell you the truth when the Pacers took him but how many guys are you going to hear of when they’re taking 54th uh K State added to the IU basketball schedule little bit tougher off season this year I think for the Hooers you’ve got K State you got UK you got UL and you’ve got Marquette in the non-conference portion of the schedule louisville’s here and Kucky’s in Lexington iu will host both Marquette I believe and I know they’re going to host Kate we don’t know the date of the Kate game yet uh love the resumption of the local rivalries i I I think you have no idea unless you’re down there how important UVL IU and UK are to like the the overall joy of living in in places like New Albany Jeffersonville Jasper uh Seymour Scottsburg Madison those places that is college football is the great passion down there in including high school basketball but nonprof professional basketball absolutely critical to the the the lives of those who live in deep southern Indiana and and watching these teams play against each other is like uh um you got to do it you know what I mean it’s a musto it’s like watching if the Cubs made the World Series again which may happen this year you know what everybody in Chicago is gonna watch that’s IU Louisville iu UK UK Louisville that’s what everything stops for those games i think it’s awesome that we’re seeing a resumption of those rivalries we’ll see what Indiana can do everything I hear from the Indiana basketball program is really really positive that uh it’s a new day down in Bloomington there is accountability there is punctuality there is a different mindset on that team and you would think that there is because there are no holdovers anywhere not in the players not in the staff nowhere even Tim Garl’s not there anymore this is a new day for Indiana basketball let’s talk about the Indiana uh Indianapolis Colts the Colts uh training camp is going to start in less than a month it’s less than four weeks away at this point first practice is going to be July 23rd um so you’ve got positions that are solid right guys like uh Deorest Buckner Grover Stewart uh Bernie Raymond Ryman uh Quentyn Nelson Braden Smith Jonathan Taylor Josh DS Michael Pitman Jr uh Alex Pierce um you you’ve got uh Rigberto Sanchez uh Tyler Warren right you’ve got Kenny uh Ward Binham all solid the positions of doubt quarterback that should not be a position of doubt it is hard to win football games in the NFL if your quarterback is not your starting quarterback is not substantially better than your backup quarterback and then substantially better also than the majority of the starters in the NFL anthony Richardson Daniel Jones we don’t know who’s going to start that is not a positive uh how about at right guard you’ve got Mack and Solves and you’ve got Danny Pitter who are battling for the right guard position that’s not necessarily a good thing hopefully that’s settled in camp on the quick with either of them and it looks like Matt Canonves is the leader in the clubhouse right now how about Jaylen Carlile and Saguna Lubie as the linebacker opposite Zer Franklin i think it’s going to be Carlize because Carl has some more cover skills and you’ve got to have that in Lu Anarumo’s defense but they’re going to play a lot of dime which means likely one linebacker which uh kind of mitigates the need for a great second linebacker but when your first linebacker isn’t necessarily great in in Zire Franklin that doesn’t bode well then you’ve got the opposite corner like at at nickel corner you’re in good shape with Kenny at one corner Charvarius Mooney Ward and that’s good the other one you don’t know whether it’s going to be Jaylen Jones or Guju Brent that’s not so good what either of those guys we know what these guys are though if Juju Brents can stay healthy he’s pretty damn good and Jaylen Jones was not bad last year so this isn’t terrible this is more like guys who are starting level players and we’ve got to see the separation between them not back marker guys and we got to see who is the least slow you know what I mean so that’s not necessarily a bad thing other positions where we’re kind of a little bit sketchy center with Tanner Bordini uh you got Shrader as a place kicker i think he’s going to be fine but what’s that count for need to see him hit kicks nick Cross as strong safety i like Nick Cross and I haven’t mentioned an edge yet because we don’t know what the hell these guys are going to be we don’t know and Samson Ebom is a guy we would know if we knew he was healthy but we don’t know if he’s 100% healthy how he’s recovered from that catastrophic injury that was suffered last year and kept him out on the shelf the entirety of the year uh could he pay is he finally going to have that year where you’re like “Hey could he pay his somebody?” He is an earnest guy he’s a hardworking guy hopefully all that hard work manifests itself in 10 plus sacks leatu is very very confident his goal is one sack per game that would be 17 i would take 17 sacks out of Leatu Latu right uh we’ll see what happens i think Colts are going to be fascinating camp like I said gonna start in under a month fever they got beat last night by 10 aaliyah Boston with a double double they were outscored 3517 in the fourth quarter uh Kelsey Mitchell good last night hitting 20 hitting 420 fever they just couldn’t shoot it they were 7 to 28 from beyond the ark and you’re not going to win a lot of games hitting 25% of your threes 64 days to the IU home opener i cannot wait for this game against Old Dominion going to be 2:30 in the afternoon going to be awesome to see Indiana reprise what was a surprising 11-2 record last year with its two losses coming to the two teams that played in the national championship game this is going to be this going to be people are wondering if if Indiana was for real last year i think this team is going to make Indiana’s team last year uh pale in comparison i think this team has a chance to be special compared to last year which was the winningest team in the history of Indiana football i think it’s going to be fascinating i cannot wait for the season to start saw the turf yesterday outside of uh of Memorial Stadium they replace it about every 10 years rolls of it in the eastern parking lot i I it’s like there’s all that turf there’s where they’re going to play there’s where they’re going to win we know they’re going to win their first three games right old Dominion Kennesaw State and Indiana State going to get those three dubs then you’ve got Illinois and then you travel to Iowa if you can win at home against Illinois and win at Iowa you got a chance to do something special and then that trip to Oregon all of a sudden becomes massive let’s celebrate some birthdays shall we yes uh Michael Lacader celebrating a birthday pat or Phil Mahoney the great Phil Mahoney celebrating a birthday jeff Schultz happy birthday don Miller happy birthday james Muriel happy birthday cynthia Hensley Evans happy birthday the great Jim Ramsberg used to watch on channel 9 in Chicago due weather happy birthday to Jim brad Loud happy birthday the great guy Zapoleon happy birthday Silus and James happy birthday to the great Colin Hartman indiana Hooser of the highest orders celebrating a birthday in the great Gary Shutler happy birthday Gary Shutler and I had a pitching duel back when we were sixth graders they still talk about in Lake Bluff Illinois let’s Oh if today’s your birthday you celebrate like hell if it’s not your birthday you celebrate somebody else that’s best done with an honest and specific compliment how about uh being good to each other lift each other up don’t pull each other down and how about we move the the stool of wisdom out of the way and we dance it’s a windmill Friday is what we do you get the blood flowing it’s like Lilius yoga and you for real people for human beings yoga yoga is for people who enjoy bragging about how much they can stretch the windmill is about getting out to the clubs and getting business done am I right or am I right
Kam Jones drafted by the Pacers at with the 38th pick, and he may wind up being the most productive rookie of this class.
Colts have several position battles that will need to be decided during a competitive training camp that begins in less than four weeks – and quarterback is among them.
IU Football opener is 64 days away, and Curt Cignetti is watching film right now to prepare for it.
IU Basketball adds a Big 12 opponent to its non-confenence schedule.
Fever fail to hold lead in fourth quarter against the LA Sparks!

Still need a center
I love this time of year, it's the season of hope
Good Morning Indy!!!
Always fun Kent go Colts Go pacers!!! Great show have great weekend everyone!!!
Good Morning! Are the Pacers going to Pay Turner & go in luxury tax?? Is Lin Dunn still with Fever? Happy Bday Collin Hartman! Go Cubs!!!
No Fever talk?? 😭😭😭 Have a great weekend.
A friend who knows him told me that this guy is very good. He can play point guard or shooting guard and has very good ball handling skills. He also has good numbers in his early years, including points, rebounds, and assists.
I like Kam Jones as a potential Sheppard/mcconnell replacement. Maybe not this season, but next season and onward. BOTH players have decent trade value and mcconnell isnt getting any younger unfortunately. The pacers are so great at drafting lately, its awesome.
Nice shirt Mr. Sterling…..Yeah THE WINDMILL…..
Great Draft by Pacers!❤
Marquette game is in Chicago
GO PACERS!!
Indiana football fans are delusional. It's only been 1 year and the coach brought half the team with him. He had a special group that wasn't even assembled in Indiana. I feel like they can be an OK team, but to assume this program is now a yearly playoff contender is a giant stretch. Good luck though!
Go Colts
Ryan Kalbrenner to the Clippers at 34 pick and Rocco Zikarsky to Minnesota at 45 pick ,Raynaud to Kings at 42 pick ,Williams to Boston at 43 pick ,Pacers did not drafted a Center….i give them the benefits of the doubt because GM earned but I need to see how this play out ,as it right now I don’t like it
ESPN graphics insisted all night that Kam Jones was going to San Antonio. They barely mentioned him in passing before moving on to the big market teams as always. Confused me until I saw your post.
Taelon Peter is probably just another Ben Sheppard. He'll hit one three pointer per game. 😂😂😂😂
Love your show
Positive outlooks across-the-board! Good report Kent!
Kam Jones is a decent pick. He’s a bigger version of Travis Best. I think he will be like a Travis Best or Donovan Mitchell type of player.
