Very happy we got Hugo as a euro basketball fan. In some ways this season he was a type of player a lot of good teams in Euroleague have – super rough, very energetic defensive hustler who plays very little minutes but almost every game. It's a cool european archetype, but with Hugo it's also very apparent that he's far more talented than just that. He will develop into a solid player if he uses the chances he gets.

If this pick had come at the end of 23-24, I would have been excited – but watching the C's move so aggressively away from actions that actually go towards the basket, and ratcheting up the 3 pt attempts, while also plainly de-emphasizing defense and rebounding, this guy just doesnt strike me as having any future here. Mazzulla wont play him, so he'll either get time in Maine to play decent basketball that he'll have to unlearn in Boston, or he'll sit on the bench, and slowly have all his good basketball instincts trained out of him, to be replaced by 'taking as many 3's as possible'.
Drafting best available talent doesnt make much sense if the team isnt interested in what the kid can do, but simply imagines turning them into another fire and forget option.
