NFL Vets GET REAL On Stephen A. Smith’s BEEF WITH MEMPHIS

up first man y’all know we starting with Memphis man memphis versus Stephen A
yes bro yes stephen A can we holl at you real quick
stephen my boy Ace Smith
I’m sitting this one out
hey well listen i know
he not wrong
but calm down okay
the way calm down bro the way the way that he said it and um and I was listening to uh the Bill Simmons uh podcast here recently and they was having a conversation about this bro and like the way that he said it about players not feeling safe to play in Memphis
was just not a good look for any city and you wouldn’t say that about any other city come on now bro
so they was talking about a pie and I and I agree with 100% it’s like okay like and we say this all the time every city every major city in the world
it’s dangerous
it’s going to be dangerous
absolutely
is Memphis more dangerous than Chicago
come on now listen if you want to play the actual [ย __ย ] arguing
I don’t believe it is
i don’t believe it is either
per capita is what we talking about you know Chicago huge huge
it is It’s not more dangerous than any other city any other major city i don’t like that i’m honest with you i don’t like that
i agree i agree cuz Memphis like we already know that it’s it’s dangerous in Memphis we’ve always got the publicity the headlines
you know national stories happening you know recently and so like we’ve seen all this stuff
mhm
but it’s like bro the city is not like we not identifying with that the people that are in Memphis
like we know everybody’s like Memphis is a great place we love it here the folks that’s there don’t really want to leave you know some of them do leave yeah but everybody be honest though to your point like we do know that like don’t go there right we know it’s dangerous but at the same time we know that this like most of the people in the area in Memphis like they don’t identify with that they don’t want that to be the narrative we trying they trying to change the neighborhoods and and certain things build up the community and stuff like that and it’s we want to see it more like it’s going real slow because
well but like it is going though because look so the mayor of Memphis right now is Paul Young and since he has been mayor if you do look at the actual statistics and and and you know all the major crimes things are dropping
yeah now again it’s going to be a slow burn but off of that though off of that the comments again like like I said like the comments that he made though again is just I don’t know who else he he has talked to i know that he referenced Jimmy Butler in the past talking about what Jimmy Butler didn’t want to come here whatever the case may be but at the same time it’s like you know pros that still live there after they retired
right
and they still there so it’s like okay that can’t be the narrative for
all it can’t be the narrative for all and then not for nothing either
they keep it a buck bro those NBA players first off they look like like like we mess with our basketball team absolutely mess with them absolutely and then secondly let’s not act like they outside in the streets like that
right
no yeah
they’re not
and don’t they travel with security too
at all times
all the time at all times
it’s team security when a team travel i’m pretty sure like
I’m pretty sure bro so how is it you don’t you talking about you don’t feel safe when y’all got
I feel like the most the most the most you’ll probably see is a [ย __ย ] car get broken into but that happens in every city here it happens here in Dallas and my car got broken into at the club
it exactly travel the next day
that’s just a thing it happens bro that’s just a thing it happens bro it happens now I will say it looks like Stephen A smith is making his way to Memphis apparently uh uh I said the mayor Paul Young like I don’t I don’t like that
i’m not No I I I do though i do like it i do appreciate those
higher ups and making him go that’s not something he wants to do we don’t know and I’ll say I’ll say this what
What What does that I mean what is this going to do for him his his opinion is his opinion it’s not going to change no it it it probably won’t change his opinion but the thing is though it it could change his opinion it it could but the thing is and I want to say this probably this to the same point that you was trying to make earlier is that
like the city is trying to change there’s a lot of good in Memphis and we don’t need this extra
bad publicity because of somebody’s opinion
that’s not you know what I’m saying in in Memphis out and about in the community seeing what’s actually going on and experiencing like what’s happening out there to just come and try to like
you know what I’m saying put more bad salt on our name when you don’t have to do that
yeah like bro we already we already know what we dealing with and we already trying to do the work to to change the narrative facts like we we want to see our city change things are Yes things are in motion first 48 didn’t help
come on it that’s what I’m saying we already got enough bad
we already got enough bad like you ain’t got to do all that you ain’t got to do all that extra so it’s like come on now
first 48 didn’t but yeah but him has a quote up from the city this is like what um like um what the m the mayor of Memphis Paul Young shared his thoughts and part of the statement that he said was um I want to just go through this real quick ste Steven called us a great sports town that is facts best fan fans in the game true the people of Memphis are unmatched like I said Grime City is a thing right but let me continue but what he is missing is that crime is significantly down from 20 24 and 25 and we’re not just talking change we are delivering it memphis is rising we’ve got the numbers and the heart to prove it i’m not going to read the rest of it but like I said I mean there are steps being played i just feel like again when you on a platform that big and like you know y’all know me I mess with Steve A Smith i know like y’all got y I mess with
But when you got a platform that big you do have to um take into consideration
people that have never been to Memphis at all
right hearing that probably for the first second or third time and now you saying it it’s like oh it’s not well maybe I would never why i never go and now visit i never I’ll never visit
i never visit that’s sad it’s sad because there’s so much in Memphis civil Rights Museum the one of the best zoos in the city the Pink Palace obviously the uh freaking uh uh Grizzlies on top of our university is great i mean we are a great b like we are basketball city bro we a basketball city man so but anyways um that’s that hey show some love bro shout out to them come on now we doing We doing our thing okay

  1. Crazy how the only things people bring up are guns and petty thievery๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ what about the white man in the suit or palm tree shirt?? As a white man being in 20 states, the worst of the worst isnโ€™t what you think

  2. I watched Melo podcast and even he said he loves coming to the M. He said he gets treated like royalty and never even played for us. He just came down here just to get some BBQ and fellowship. He also said you do have to know where and where not to go, but it's nothing but love in the city that's desperate for a Chip and talent that actually wants to be there. That's from Carmelo Anthony.

  3. Im from Memphis.. he is right.. Memphis is literally ranked the number 1 most dangerous City.. people highlight the food and Beale Street but the city culture and violence is terrible.. I want things to change but it starts with the people.. the fact that crime is significantly down but still is one of the highest in the countries tells you how bad it was

  4. Iโ€™m stationed in Memphis right now. Like you said Memphis has so much crime in a very small area compared to Atlanta and other cities. I knew it was crazy around here when they robbed the Toys for Tots storage facility during Christmas a couple years back. Itโ€™s the Younger generation that is wildin out.

  5. Itโ€™s a lot of pain. Memphis has such a strong section of their culture that defines so much of American music, not just hip hop. And specifically in hip hop their sound is a cornerstone of history. Despite the good ,a lot of tragic shit happens. Enough consistent tragedy can create entire generations built from rage. When youโ€™re also systematically held down for reasons political, racist or otherwise itโ€™s hard to see past it. It requires a lot of people looking ahead in one direction and thatโ€™s hard to do.

  6. Nahhhh Stephen A was done dirty by a OG in Memphis back in the day ๐Ÿ˜‚ thatโ€™s the only way he has this type of energy

  7. Yโ€™all sound stupid AF. Memphis is consistently ranked a top 5 most violent cities in the US. 2023 ranked number 1 in violent crimes. UN reports rank Memphis as a top ten most dangerous city in the world. Stupid takes like this is why Iโ€™m watching less of this podcast. Simpin for culture to avoid reality.

  8. Screamin A been hanging out with his buddies from Fox too long.

Memphis has the same crime as any other large population area. All this other shit is just drama.

  9. I'm from Brazil and when NFL players were saying they were scared to play in my city, I was offended as fuck๐Ÿ˜‚

  10. Memphis is definitely more dangerous than other cities. Itโ€™s ranked so high because itโ€™s that so much violence with less infrastructure.

  11. I'm not from memphis, never been to memphis, probably will never go to memphis. But Sweet was absolutely right in saying that when you have a platform thats a certain size and certain influence, you do have an obligation to be accurate, truthful, and take things into consideration.
