Ace Bailey is in a ‘perfect situation in Utah’ – Bobby Marks 🗣️ + Draft winners & losers | NBA Today

time now for a little coast to coast draft class edition First up check out this reception for Khan Canipple in Charlotte yesterday Khan was introduced Another take a listen Coach Lee and and and Jeff Peterson here to my right have uh made it known that they want to change the culture here Um they made that known to us on the visit and the interviews at the combine Um so it’s it’s bringing in high character guys that are about the right things about playing together about winning Um you know that’s that’s going to take some time and and we’re all here and I I think bought in to be able to do that So Danny the Hornets might want to change the culture but are they actually headed in the right direction
no not not hiring Duke guys You got
What do you want me to do with this i’m I’m tired of talking about the these Duke guys but this dude’s a beast though
All jokes aside he is a good player I think he is the direction of moving in a different like I said a different culture So yes I think this is a good move for them So it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in with LaMelo and and company
He’s like 66 220 Man the Trailblazer shocked everyone when they drafted Young Hansen at number 16 but maybe not as much as Yang was when the Blazers presented him with cupcakes to celebrate his 20th birthday Andrea what do you make of Young in Portland oh I I absolutely love it First of all look at his face Look how excited he is He was just like shocked I don’t I I don’t know if he’s ever seen that much sugar but you know you’re welcome Um Yang Hansen is so talented I’m extremely excited for him This is clearly the guy that Portland wanted He has so much size He is an amazing passer If you haven’t watched some of his highlights he has the opportunity to be a special skilled big in this league And I love that Portland welcomed him with some birthday cupcakes What an amazing week for Young Hunen Welcome to the league I’m excited for it
All right one of the biggest headlines coming out of the draft Ace Bailey going fifth overall to Utah despite some very clear signals from his camp that they didn’t want him going there Sources tell ESPN that Bailey’s reps told at least one team in the top five not to pick him And the question now is will he actually report to the Jazz So we’ll get to that answer in just a moment here as joining us now Jonathan Giboni All right You’ve been all over this Ace Bailey situation Why is this the ideal situation for him though george ample opportunity a clear lack of star power on the perimeter a highly respected coaching staff and an incredibly passionate fan base There’s a culture of winning in Utah they’re dying to get back to that Once Ace Bailey arrives in Utah and sees how fortunate he is to land in this situation he will quickly realize this is the perfect place for him to reach his all-star potential Now despite all the drama about preferred destinations Washington or whatever and the threats that he made his his agent made to a team in the top five that he won’t report I am sure that this situation is going to get resolved in short order in no small part due to the fact that Ace Bailey has simply no leverage with the way the collective bargaining is set up I think there’s a little bit of a stalemate going on in Utah right now but I am sure that this will eventually get resolved and it once this camp gets a better understanding of the situation that they’re in Bobby
Yeah I listen I think he’s in a terrific situation in Utah I think certainly playing under Will Hardy uh who’s one of the the best young coaches here in in a true developmental system And here’s what what’s going to happen They’re going to tender him this this rookie contract and that they’re going to have the rights to Ace Bailey for the foreseeable future And it’s going to be up to Ace Bailey if he wants to show up in Utah or not But I do think once he gets there and gets in a room with Danny and Austin A and Justin Justin Justin Justin Xanic and Will Hardy and he sees the environment that they’re in this is going to be the perfect spot for Ace Bailey And as I said the other night I thought Utah was one of the big winners And the reason why is because of they picked Ace Bailey with the fifth pick in the draft I I agree guys You know I I’ve enjoyed talking to Will Hardy when I was doing NBA sideline and he is such a great coach We know one thing he loves corner threes Guys getting into the corner creating space on the offensive end Where does Ace Bailey thrive in the mid-range Ace Bailey should have so much space to operate and score His beautiful turnaround jumpers his length I see Will Hardy giving him the space on the floor to be the best version of himself And what I will say about Ace Bailey is the whole time what he has said about this situation is that he is focused on basketball He is focused on playing the game So I imagine when he gets to Utah that will be his focus He’s a truly special talent So as soon as he’s there and he’s focusing on basketball which is what he loves and what he has said I see it working out
I hope his actions meet his word So if he comes in I just want to I just want to see him be professional right yeah
Come in do what you say you’re going to do play you know good basketball play hard especially for a guy like Coach Will Hardy who I know personally who was a Spurs descendant Um but strategically this actually makes sense for him right he wanted to go to a place where he can actually thrive and be a star and get to that second contract get picked up give have more room and more time be featured So why not be in a place like Utah so strategically this makes sense He may not want to have been there but this is what he was trying to do in the first place So if that’s what you said you wanted to do and this is where you end up why not you know embrace this and and and have a lot of fun with it So this is a great spot for him Hopefully Said Will Hardy can get him to buy in and that organization can because I think this will make this team with Lorie Markin and all company they have there a better you know situation have a good turnaround for the year
Danny and Austin A just take him to Valters and he’ll be all good That’s a great restaurant there in Salt Lake right by the arena So anyway all right enough about the first round Let’s take a look at this great moment from last night’s second round for Javon Smalls The night started with matching green suits with his mom
Like the color
Yeah it’s a good color
Drafted 48 by the Grizzlies But it was this moment of his grandfather that showed how much these moments can really mean to a family We’re going to turn our attention over to Javon’s table because papa is over there and he is emotional
as he should be Javon when you see your grandfather with that much enthusiasm what goes through your mind
uh you know my family is just my world man Just seeing my papa over there with me Uh he took me to every single tournament since I was a little kid Um rarely misses any games So you know I mean that’s who I do it for So after the freshman dominated the night in round one with a record 18 drafted last night 19 seniors were selected in round two for the seniors The most in the second round since 2004 Overall first round picks were over a year and a half younger than the second rounders this year So two-day NBA draft wrapped up last night For a little instant reaction let’s do winners and losers
Not bad fits decent outfits
Andrea let’s start with the winners Who you got you know I I like I like the Spurs I just think the Spurs did a really great job with who they picked Adding Dylan Harper adding Carter Bryant Dylan Harper’s amazing with the ball in his hands He can get to the rim He’s strong He’s a big guard We’ve seen how important big guards are in this league And Carter Bryant in limited minutes made such a big impact He is a true 3 and D guy with a ton of size and he knows how to specialize in his role He did that the entire season at Arizona He’s an elite athlete I like those two I think the Spurs are winners
Bobby what about you winners losers what do you got yeah I mean I’ve talked about Atlanta and Utah at length but how about Phoenix i mean what Phoenix was able to do they went into the draft certainly prioritizing bigs and they go out and they draft Kan Malawich the center from Duke They trade for Mark Williams a quality starting center And then they enter the round two They’ve got 59 and 52 And all of a sudden they move up to 31 to take Rashir Fleming a big wing They they’ve got length something that they sorely needed after the Kevin Durant trade So I I really like what Phoenix was able to do in uh the two days there
I think the obvious answer is the team that got the most conveniently lucky is the Dallas Mavericks Um but outside of Dallas getting number one draft pick I like what the Spurs did but for me I got to give a lot of love to Shawn Marks in Brooklyn What they did with drafting Jagar Demond I love him and my guy Drake Pal from Carolina I got to give a lot of love to those guys They had five first round draft picks They’re going to use all of them Jagar 69 point guard can do a little bit of everything Kind of Luca Drake Pal silky smooth shoots a mid-range jumper very athletic but they got a lot of five lot of draft picks in the first round that are very good can use them for the start of the season or they can use them to pick up a superstar if they need to in this free agency So I like what they did in in Brooklyn and I think they have some some good things coming
All right I’m gonna ask the whole group this real quick Uh Bobby I’ll start with you A lot of opinions on the Pelicans draft What are your opinions on it
well I mean there’s like three buckets here right i like Jeremiah Fears I think that’s a really good pick at seven I like Derek Queen at 13 But here’s the big if right you move up from 23 to 13 Great But look what it could cost you It could cost you a potential lottery pick next year because it’s it’s your own pick that you traded to Atlanta or the Bucks pick New Orleans is in the West We don’t know what’s going to happen with this Milwaukee pick It is certainly a risk but they got better but it could cost them down the road
Andrea I I’ll just be quick here and say Jeremiah Fears is one of my favorites Derek Queen as well but Jeremiah Fears is one of my favorite players to watch all season He had a tough SEC schedule showed up night in and night out He’s electric with the ball in his hands He wears number zero because he has zero fears He is a fearless player I’m excited to see him in New Orleans
Yeah On the other hand Derek Queen was one of my favorite guys to watch this year I thought he was a sleeper I thought he could have been drafted a lot like even earlier in the draft So he’s a guy I was looking for I was hoping that he landed somewhere else that he could be a factor for a winning team
He’ll get a chance to grow here but I said I would like to have seen him be in another situation This is me just guessing here Reckless speculation so don’t aggregate me out there bloggers Maybe Joe Dum Mars didn’t love what he inherited and that’s why he chose some of the players that that he put on this particular roster All right want to thank you all for hanging out NFL Live is up next

  1. This kid is bad news. Apparently he his attitude created a divided locker room at Rutgers, and there were some legal issues that the campus police swept under the rug.

  2. When are sports analyst and lesser players going to realize. When ever you stomp on Kobes legacy, everyone is going to drag you. This ain't even a kobe video!!

Trash lebron all day and no one bats an eye, just try it you'll see. That alone is a GOAT thing for kobe. He doesn't have to be alive to defend himself, he is that great!!

  3. No matter the fit, thier not going to get the best out of him if he doesn't want to be there..

  4. Why do we have these two doing draft breakdowns the day after the draft…..shouldn’t we have the A crew to go over all this?

  5. You can never tell teams not to draft someone!!! Unless your Lebron and want to play with your son 😂😂😂

  6. Probably not a good sign when your player would prefer to go to a team where they're center of attention rather than winning. Ace Bailey could have gone to any of the top four. Maybe even started winning in Philly immediately and he made himself that undesirable. This guy could go either way. Being a jazz fan I don't have my hopes on winning with him, but I bet he'll show me some cool highlights of himself.

  8. I think Ace Bailey was more so of surprised than mad when the Utah Jazz drafted him. But once he make his home debut inside the Delta Center in the regular season, he will love it because the Utah Jazz has one of the best fan bases in the NBA
